    Cheeses

Came here around Saturday 11:30am. It wasn't busy. The only cheese shop I was able to find in Lodi. They only let you sample a few that they already have set for samples. There's no trying cheeses you want like some other cheese-shops. But the staffs were nice and knowledgeable. I bought some cheeses that were recommended to me. There were some unique ones that I wanted to try, but I didn't want to buy so many at once. They also sold crackers, olives, packaged salami.

Sweet Dreams (are made of cheese) I came across this cheese shop while exploring Downtown Lodi and noticed all the Yelp stickers posted on their window. Went inside to check it out. I was looking for gift ideas. They said cheese make a fantastic gift, especially when paired with wine and other accompaniments. So I'm thinking while cheeses themselves make great gifts, a cheese and wine gift basket would be the perfect gift for my friend (or any cheese lover, for that matter). Hmm, what about a cheese and jam set. While I took my time looking at their cheese and snack display I was slowly filling my basket with stuff I like (with emphasis on the "I"). I ended up leaving with some gourmet crackers, shortbread, chocolates, cheese spread w/ crackers snack box and my cool discovery... Taco Truck almond beer brittle. The employees were friendly and helpful and for awhile I was the only customer inside the shop and so I had all the attention. So excited to take home my bag of goodies... In the meantime... I'm still in search of a gift for my friend ¯\_('~')_/¯ Review #2582

They have many different cheeses to choose from

Such an awesome little cheese shop. They have many different options - they also provide cooking classes here! The ladies are very knowledgeable of there products and they answer any questions you have regarding the cheeses! We were just walking down the farmers market and they reeled us in, will definitely be coming back! Thank you :)

Etorki cheese, fabulous sea salt crackers, & red bell pepper ancho chili jam. Mmmmm!

I have been wanting to get back to Cheese Central for a while now, and life kept getting in the way. Do yourself a favor and just go. Treat yourself to a couple different fabulous cheeses, while simultaneously supporting local small businesses. Even if you're not winetasting, and you just want a couple different unique cheese flavors to go home to and make a small tray for yourself, it's fun to pick a variety from the store. My husband always snags the Red bell pepper ancho chili jam, with the mini original sea salt artisan crackers! Our cheese selections this time or a farmhouse cheddar from England, the ice skater smoked Gouda from Holland, Castello creamy Havarti and the Cypress Grove "PsycaDILLic"goat milk cheese with dill. Treat yo self !

The service and knowledge were top notch. The mother daughter team were so welcoming. I definitely recommend this place if you love cheese.

    More delicious cheeses.

Cheese, cheese, cheese...cheese me now! This nifty little shop is certain to tickle your cheese fancy. We've visited twice in as many days, that should tell you something. If you need a selection of cheese and crackers, spreads and sausages be sure to stop at Cheese Central. Don't know what to choose? Grab the pre-packed picnic for two...stuffed full with a couple cheeses, olives, sausages, crackers and a spread. We needed a small gift for the sweet lady who gave us a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and 2 gorgeous Cabernet wine glasses...this was a perfect choice to put a smile on her face. Yesterday we picked up a few delicacies for an evening hotel room nosh. Any cheese shop worth its salt will have the favorites: Cowgirl Creamery, Cypress Grove, St. Agur and a few English and French favs too. I found my new favorite in Shooting Star Creamery - Central Coast Creamery fans will recognize the name, Shooting Star is the brainchild of the daughter of Central Coast. This young woman has been making award winning cheese since she was a young girl, one taste and you'll understand. The shop is in darling downtown Lodi and the shop staff and owners are a wealth of knowledge. I wish we could stay for a cheese or cooking class but we'll have to plan these for our next visit. The shop is closed on Sunday but they post a sign where you can enjoy their products at local wineries and vineyards. How cool is that? Do plan to make a stop and pick up a wedge or two. You'll be glad you did!

Last weekend on a trip to Sacramento, I finally had a chance to stop by their Olive Mill and Winery. There is a nice sparking clean outdoor patio with picnic tables within a few steps from the olive oil grove but it was a bit hot that day so we opted to sit inside. In addition to the olive oil tasting set, there were some brunch items such as a crostini and salad as well as a Mediterranean plate with hummus. We opted for the crostini, olive oil tasting and a cappuccino. The jalapeño olive oil was unique and flavorful enough that we bought a couple bottles of it to take home. The pear vinaigrette was thick and tangy. The waitresses were friendly and helpful when we had a couple questions about the dishes. The shelves in the shop area is full of flavored olive oils and vinaigrette as well as ceramic and a whole slew of items for serving charcuterie. If you are a fan of olive oil and are planning on a trip up to Sacramento or Lake Tahoe, would definitely recommend stopping by to check out Calivirgin.

But this local indy store has been around in this town for over 55 years, so it is well deserved for them to be a local fave. I only got a sandwich for the road and a bakery item, so no significant grocery shopping. I was traveling back home and didn't have a cooler so I refrained. But next time if I have a cooler, their meat counter will get exercised. Got a Salami Sandwich ($11/4*) from their deli and it was pretty solid. Every sandwich is customized, so every customer fills out a card, checks off your preferences and hand it over to a deli clerk. Nothing out of the ordinary here, just your basic sandwich stuff, but with quality and fresh ingredients. I liked everything in my sandwich, was even to put alfalfa sprouts in it, as I haven't had that option in over a decade. I wished there would have been an option to add oil n vinegar to make it more 'Italian' tasting, so I had to settle on just mayo and mustard, which is more classic American tasting to me. Still a solid sandwich that I was able to eat in 2 intervals so a decent value in my book. Coffee Crunch Cake ($7/3.5*) Very impressive tall cake with a very moist crumb. A little too industrial tasting for me but better than other grocery cakes like Safeway, which taste like plastic to me, so many additives and stabilizers. Cake part had a light chocolate taste, but maybe it was supposed to be more coffee-like? I couldn't taste any coffee except for this super hard and sweet candy on top used for garnish. Indeed that candy offered a 'crunch' element but in a very cloying and awkward way. Sure it was nice and glossy and even resembled shiny coarse stone like obsidian. But to take a bite that big of hard candy to go along a delicate cake was just too extreme for me. I think if that candy were in smaller chunks, more like a crumb texture, it would disperse more sending coffee flavor more evenly and not risk breaking a tooth on that hard sweet candy. I had higher hopes for this. Gawked at their butchers counter and it was pretty darn impressive, Pretty high quality stuff but also insanely expensive. Steaks start at $20 per pound and easily rises double to triple from there. But they got some serious cut steaks here, like 2-3 inch thick cuts and they even have a couple versions of wagyu steaks. Nothing is prewrapped, everything has to go through a clerk. Produce section just meh and regular. Well kept but Safeway may have a more extensive produce section. Dry goods definitely Whole Foods level. They seem to have a guy out front bbqing meats like sausages and tri-tip, like 7 days a week, which is impressive. I got there around 11 am and the employee was just setting up. Otherwise I may have tried something. Cool store, that if this were in my town, I'd be a reg. Since I was just a passing traveler, just call me impressed.

First, I don't come to Lodi that much, only if I have business to take care of and in this case it was at every drivers' favorite place--DMV. After completing I was seriously hungry and while I was waiting for my number to get called, I started looking for a place for a good sandwich and ran up on this place. I never heard of West Coast Sourdough, I have been to the Sourdough Company in Stockton once and I enjoyed it!!! So going back to this place I read a review from a couple who came here and the husband was just raving about his bbq brisket sandwich. I had to try because anybody who knows me knows I love brisket. Well, my experience was totally different from his. I am glad I opted for the salad as my side instead of potato chips!!!! The salad was just lettuce & tomato with ranch dressing but it was good and fresh. The sandwich was dry, no condiments at all, she did ask me if I wanted lettuce but for some reason I thought it would have tomatoes on it. Nothing! My first bite was a piece of fat and I like brisket but not the fat. That had to be the worst sandwich I have ever had!!!! The sandwich combo & drink was almost $20.00. When I walked in I admired how neat & clean it was. I was the only one in there until she brought my sandwich then four more people came in. It was a very nice, hot day but too hot to sit outside and it was getting too warm inside, no air coming from the vents. I hurried along because I didn't want to break out in a sweat. I tried putting a little salt & pepper on my sandwich thinking that would help it--no!!!!! They don't have to worry about me coming back! If I am over in the new part of Lodi again I will try Nations.
