Peppered/seasoned turkey & salami with everything, on soft roll

I saw the great reviews online so I decided to give this place a shot. Looks can be deceiving; the place is a little old-school style deli and is a historic landmark location in Stockton (over 100 years old I believe). I ordered a turkey and salami sandwich with everything on it. I went during lunch time and there were a lot of other customers but there was also a lot of staff working so getting my sandwich order was pretty quick (took about 5 mins total). My first thought after I picked up my order was 'dang this sandwich seems a little small' but it was actually pretty hearty of a sandwich! They definitely packed it with a lot of meat and all the ingredients were very fresh (I can easily taste the fresh veggies). I was a little stuffed after eating the first half and was considering saving the rest for later, but it was too good that I didn't want to save it lol. I ate the other half. lol I would highly recommend this place and will be returning again soon!

Genova Bakery is one of those hidden gems that all the locals know about, and that visitors will keep talking about long after they stop by. It's a "little" hole in the wall bakery and shop at the corner of N Sierra Nevada and E Flora St. While the shop up front is pretty small, the bakery in the back is doing a lot of work to prepare amazing fresh bread. Part of the charm is that Genova is in the middle of a neighborhood with houses all around it. Street parking is pretty easy to find, although at peak hours there may be a line out the door. The sandwiches are the must try items, and I recommend getting a combo. They've recently raised prices but it's still a very fair $10 for a regular sandwich and $10.50 for a combo (plus a few options to add extras like pickles or Bruno peppers). If you're ordering a sandwich, you'll want to fill out the sandwich form. My favorite combination is hot coppa, hot salami, on ciabatta with havarti cheese, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, add bruno peppers and write in oil+vinegar. They have a great variety of bread options, cold cuts and cheese and everyone is able to make a combination that fits their preferences. Their pasta salads are delicious. It's often something I skip on, and then when I order it again I remember why I should order it every time- such a great side with a sandwich. While you're waiting for your sandwiches, you can browse the shelves for sweet treats, ingredients, sauces, peppers, wine and of course their fresh breads. I typically pick up some nippy Bruno Peppers (they're delicious and local) and a loaf of bread. If you're planning a large order or are coming during a busy time you can call in your order ahead of time. Now that I live farther away I tend to come during the slower times, but I remember the lunch rush and while there's typically a wait it's well worth it.

I was in Stockton for work and had bookmarked Genova Bakery as a potential lunch option for my short visit. After hearing some rave reviews from coworkers who lived in the area, my other coworker and I decided to try it out! While we were told it may be busy during lunchtime, we were able to get a parking spot on the street pretty easily and were surprised to find it wasn't too crowded inside. The ordering system is pretty straightforward - there are pads of paper with an order form to indicate your sandwich preferences. Regular sandwiches (one meat and one cheese) are $10 and combos (two meats and one cheese) are $10.50. Once completed, you hand the form to an employee and wait until you're called. Pricing for items by the pound were also listed on the board. I opted for a combo with Cajun turkey and prosciutto with provolone cheese on milk bread with all mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, and onion. I also got a small box of the smoked cheddar and bacon potato salad on the side. While waiting, the market area has a bunch of great items to peruse through, and the bakery itself is abuzz with customers coming in and out to pick up baguettes, order pounds of salami, and place more sandwich orders. The ONLY reason I'm docking a star here is because in my hurry to check out, I didn't realize I had been charged for an extra sandwich.. I tapped my card without reviewing the overall charge (my fault) and I unfortunately didn't look at my receipt until I was home much later in Sacramento. Otherwise, the sandwich and potato salad were incredible and I would highly recommend stopping by this neighborhood spot for some delicious food.

This place is clearly a great neighborhood place for locals. Def old school Italian feel which is a thing I love. I will say, it's not immediately obvious when you walk in what you need to do. You are required to to fill out a sando slip that's just resting on top of a shelf. I figured out after waiting for a bit so I had to lose my place in line to go fill out the slip. They don't really have any curated sandwiches like an Italian combo or anything like that. I went with a mortadella sandwich. It was good. Maybe needed like oil and vinegar but I didn't see an option for that. The sandwich was pretty good. I saw they had some deli sides and one caught my eye: smoked cheddar and bacon potato salad. I wanted that. So I'm assuming that you ask them for it as the slip has absolutely no checkbox or space for this. So as my sandwich is finished and they tell me to pay, I say I want a side of potato salad, please. They tell me if I want it to get back in line, a line which was longer than when I first arrived and took me about 10 minutes to get my sandwich made. Not amazing customer service. Suffice to say, I didn't get any potato salad. So, this place is probably better experience when you're a local and you know all the quirks. Not necessarily friendly to newbies.

Finally came to try out this famous local spot milk bread was fresh and soft. Never came so didn't know how to order but seen people when you first walk up writing their order. Service was not friendly as I expected the service to be a lot better. However nobody greeted us , after filling out your paper I wasn't sure where to go since it was our first time there. It's very small in there so not many places to stand. Maybe they should have a how to order and where to stand next. Someone finally said oh don't stand there go behind another guy so make sure to stand to the farthest aisle. Then as you stand by the deli area beware not to stand to close to the counter. A lady was slicing meat and said stand over there they'll call you when you can put your order. Like I said their service could be more friendly. Next someone making your sandwich that's free she was probably the nicest and asked if me and my co worker were together and said she can make our sandwiches! After waiting wasn't sure where to stand so we just waited by the front till our sandwiches were done to pay at the cashier. Besides that they have great selection of meats and options to add to your sandwich and sandwich tasted great. Mine was about $10.00 Also ordered a focaccia bread runs about $4.50 or so for a loaf a little thin and too salty for my liking. Would possibly try it out again just cause I love supporting local business.

Was in the mood for a good sandwich and stumbled upon this while in Stockton. A ambiance Italian deli joint that has delicious desserts as well. I got the hot salame x cajun turkey on Dutch crunch roll which tasted 12/10. Service was quick and friendly.

I have been craving for Sub sandwich and didn't want to go the fast food route so I searched for a mom and pops store that can satisfy my cravings. I found this little corner shop and decided to try it out. You come in and they have a smooth process of ordering your sandwich. Fill out an ordering form to customize your sandwich, wait to be called your turn and pay for your order. That's it! I have my sandwich on a dutch crunch bread (Applewood smoked ham, smoked turkey with provolone) and I loved every bite of it. I saved half for later and decided to toast it and oh boy it was a game changer. They don't skimp on their ingredients and with just half of my sandwich I was full. This place though small have loads of good stuff inside. From dry pastas, to sauces, breads, deli meats, and even dry beans. You can make a whole meal to feed the hungry mouths. I'm definitely a repeat customer and will be trying everything else they have to offer.

Love the ciabatta bread! Lots of choices to make your ideal sandwich. Their focaccia pizza is great too but you have to preorder.

Ask the Community - Genova Bakery

    Do you sell malfadine pasta?

We sell a lot of different pastas but we don't sell that particular cut. I'm not sure but you might check Podesto's Market on Pacific Ave.

Do you use a sourdough starter for your breads?

No, most of our breads are based off of a sweet dough not sour.

Do you have gluten free bread options ? My wife has gluten allergy and I feel bad she is unable to enjoy an Italian cold cut.

I’m sorry but we do not bake gluten free breads. To be truly gluten free, you have to store the ingredients in a separate area and process the dough on different equipment which we don’t have the capability of doing here at Genova.… Read more

I'm so happy because I got my cheesecake today and it's absolutely freakin amazing. It's everything…read moreI was hoping for and more. I used to get my cheesecake fix from a restaurant in Woodbridge that made it homemade and it was very good, until the restaurant was sold and the new owners aren't continuing to sell it. Well I shouldn't say they aren't selling cheesecake because I'm not sure if they are or not, but I was told the homemade cheesecake will not be available from now on there. So I've been looking high and low, from city to city and going as far as Modesto to find a replacement. I wasn't satisfied still so as I visit new areas one of the 1st things I always check on 1st is if there is a local place that has the "best" cheesecake. I've come across some decent cheesecake but I still hadn't found one as good as my favorite cheesecake in Woodbridge. That is until I came across Jennifer. I was searching on Yelp once again and came across her Yelp page once again and thought it was time to take the plunge and contact Jennifer to order one of her cheesecakes. I hadn't called her yet because there wasn't a reason for me ordering an entire cheesecake and felt like it's a bit much to order myself an entire cheesecake. But after so many failed attempts I felt like it was time, after all maybe I can freeze it for future cravings. I let her know I love crust and was requesting a thicker one. She ended up asking me if I wanted my cheesecake to have a crust on top so that way I'd have crust on the top and bottom. I told her it sounded good and I really appreciated the fact that she took into consideration what I told her I liked. So today I got my cheesecake and I couldn't be any happier. It's creamy just like I prefer and there's definitely a lot of good crust. I'm so happy to have found Jennifer and look forward to getting more from her in the future. From what I saw on Yelp she makes really good treats. If you're looking for great cheesecake or other desserts you really don't need to look any further, I'm positive that you'll be more then happy with what you order from Jennifer. She's also very friendly and of course accommodating obviously. That's better then any bakery I've ever went to. There's nothing better then getting the exact dessert that you've been craving. Happy cheesecake eating to me. Bon Appétit

And that was exactly what I intended to do when I was blessed with the fact that Nika's IG popped up on my FYP and had me drooling at the sight of all of her delicious creations. If you've heard about the quaint local Stockton Whimsy Market, you would know that Nika and her small business that consists of her adorable family, have a booth regularly at this market. I set out to go to the next one lined up and when I arrived I made a beeline for her booth. You know something lives up to it's hype if the lines are long! To be honest, waiting in line added to the anticipation of trying out the lineup she had that evening. Her husband was the one taking orders and not only was he kind but he made great small talk. It was a nice added personal touch. I'm all about community and getting to know people so when people take the time to greet you and chat, it goes a long way. I went home with their Best Selling Award Winning Ube White Chocolate Blondie. I've been hooked ever since. Did you know that she also makes custom cakes? No? Well now you do! Nika is an absolute sweetheart! I was so nervous to reach out to her on IG for my daughter's birthday cake. I had spoken to her on IG here and there before asking and was pleasantly surprised that she's the type of small business to engage with her followers. It made it a lot easier for me to ask if she would do me the honor of making my daughters 1st professionally made themed birthday cake for her 3rd birthday. Of course she agreed and she was so wonderful during the whole process of listening to what I had envisioned for the design, whilst also giving me great ideas and even had her friend also make a beautiful cake topper for it. I went for a classic chocolate cake with a swiss meringue butter cream and it was a hit at my daughter's party! Ever since then I've actively been trying out new sweets any chance I get and have fallen in love with so many more. After the Ube White Chocolate Blondie, my next favorite would have to be her Sweet Corn Mochi! She has such a variety of desserts that you'll never get tired of what she has to offer and believe me when I say, you'll continue to consistently come back for your favorites and new creations she comes up with! I'm floored that I'm the first one to review her small business, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's not worth trying. TRUST when I say RUN do not WALK at the opportunity to grab some delicious desserts and sweets. I promise just browsing through her IG alone will seal the deal for you! Her IG handle is: @nikasmadsweets! You can't buy happiness, but you can buy desserts and that's kind of the same thing! I'm the first to review so don't come for me that this was "too long!" I'm genuinely a huge fan and supporter of this small business! .
