I want to start by saying this isn't a bad place - I'm just sharing my experience so others know what to expect, especially given the price point. I get massages regularly (at least once a month), and this was my first time trying a place in Houston. The space itself feels quite dated and very minimal - not necessarily an issue, but it does affect the overall experience. I personally prefer disposable covers/linens because they feel cleaner to me, and that's something | look for when | go to a new place. The massage itself was... okay. Not bad, but not particularly great either. One thing to be aware of is that whatever is listed on their menu isn't exactly what you'd usually expect. It's a very unique style of massage that I personally hadn't experienced before, so it feels quite different. If you're expecting a traditional deep tissue or hot stone massage, it may not align with that expectation - so I'd recommend asking questions beforehand to be sure it's what you're looking for. Another thing I noticed was the use of oil - it felt excessive and a bit messy (including getting into my hair), and overall the technique didn't feel very structured or polished. That said, this could vary depending on the therapist, and I don't want to judge the entire place based on one experience. I personally tried it because I had ClassPass credits to use, and while I wouldn't rush back, others might have a better experience depending on what they're looking for. Incredible experience. I have been coming to Cheeva Som sporadically for more than a decade. I appreciate being able to make an emergency appointment if I'm suffering from a migraine or shoulder tension, but I've never had a dedicated therapist until now. I always opt for a female masseuse, but a friend recommended Mario and I'm so grateful she did. He immediately made me feel comfortable and he focused on the areas where I needed extra attention. Holy cow. I feel like a brand new person leaving this place. Booked a 60 min Thai & Swedish combo with Nadia and she was AMAZING. The price is definitely worth what they give you. I was incredibly impressed with how much she was able to fit in that time period. She walked on my back, stretched me out, got a bunch of knots undone, and used hot towels. She also used a massage cream that had maybe some menthol in it? I felt a cool and soothing sensation from it and it really enhanced the massage, especially I was experiencing some aching and soreness. She was very attentive and often checked in on me to make sure the pressure was okay. I typically prefer a lighter pressure and she made sure to be gentle with me and warn me if there were any parts that might hurt a little more. The only thing I would note is that if you're uncomfortable with being naked with your therapist, be aware that your drape will come off at some point during the massage. I kept my underwear on and had pasties, so I was fine. But I could see someone getting uncomfortable if they weren't expecting that. read more

Not what you would expect from the outside but the ambiance on the inside was just perfect for a Genuine Thai Massage Retreat! Rooms were so spacious, there are full size beds in Thai themed rooms with Ashiatsu bars on the ceiling to assist with the pressure as she started by walking up and down my backside to loosen up my body. Then proceeded to stretch and apply pressure- then a wonderfully fragrant type peppermint oil was applied and she switched to using her hands & arms with continuous pressure and really worked out the knots on my back, neck, and calves. Hot towels were applied and used to remove excess oils. Lots of strategic stretching and manipulation of the joints. I highly recommend this place - it is so reasonable and they are all so inviting and kind there. I WILL be back!!!! read more

Probably the second best massage I've had in Houston. The ladies were very nice and my masseuse definitely was the strongest I've encountered, when I said I wanted it DEEP, she listened. The scrub was the best part, it was very thorough so much so that it kind of hurt lol but my skin felt super clean and soft afterwards and the smell was wonderful. The scalp massage, a $10 add on was honestly the best part. Afterwards I was so relaxed that I felt like I needed a nap to even drive the 2 miles home. So let me say... I try to visit somewhere at least twice before reviewing it anywhere on the internet, because a good thing once can be a fluke. With that said, the amazingness that is Cheeva Som is most decidedly not a fluke. The first time I was here I had Paul. As someone who has never had a Thai massage I went for the blended 1.5 hr sweedish-thai. Tonight I went all in and went for just the Thai. O (not sure how her name is spelt?) did an amazing job. I had a muscle spasm in my back earlier this week that hurt enough to send me running to my rheumatologist (haha, I'm 23 and old!). I went in in a lot of pain and now I am like jell-o. I have a problem with my spine falling out of alignment and O completely just whipped it back into shape. I know it doesn't matter to some, but the fact that the are open till 10 is another big plus in my book. All in all - I very highly recommend Cheeva Som, it is definitely one of my top three places in Houston to get a massage - and I am someone with back and shoulder problems who gets 2-4 massages a month (and tries anywhere and everywhere in H-town!). read more

My husband and I have been coming here for many years and have enjoyed all of the wonderful masseuses. We had been going at least once a month for a 90 min couples massage but with the pandemic once a month turned into once every 2-3 months. The last few times we went it was just okay, nothing spectacular. We chalked it up to different/new staff and the pandemic. Last night we decided since it hadn't been spectacular we'd just go for 60 minutes. They asked if male and female masseuses would be okay and we figured sure, why not. Haven't had a male masseuse here before. When they both entered the room they decided the female would work on me and the male would work on my husband. The lady was decent. The male on the other hand, was not even okay. Hell he wasn't even Thai and when my husband asked if he walks on backs his response was "no, you have to request for that; I'm too heavy to do that." NEVER have we had to request when making an appointment that the masseuse be able to walk on our backs. That's part of a freaking Thai massage!! What a huge disappointing massage for my husband. When we paid the lady asked how it was and my husband shared his comments but there was no response from her. She basically just looked down. My husband and I are very impressed with Cheeva Som! We get massages very frequently, sometimes as many as 4 times a month, each, so we definitely know a good massage when it happens. We love trying different places because we love experiencing the different ambiance's. After trying Cheeva Som, we have never used anyone else. Took care near my frozen shoulder so I wasn't back to being out of whack when I left. Towards the end got more relaxing so I almost fell asleep. That was a good way to go for me. I finally got to check out this place after several recommendations. My wife and I went for a couple's massage. I'd never gotten a Thai massage. We got escorted to the room (clean, well-appointed, and quiet) and we were asked if we wanted a regular or strong massage. I decided to go for strong. Strong = getting pulled, twisted and turned in all sorts of crazy positions. And yes, they walk over you. All the stress from work just melted away. It's a bit pricier than reflexology but cheaper than regular massage joints. I highly recommend this place; this is one of the best massages I've had, ever. read more

I am not quite sure why I haven't written a review for this gold mine. I have been here twice now, and each time I leave, I walk out feeling like 5 million dollars. I have never experienced a massage quite like a Thai Massage ever before in my entire 30 years. Back in the day when I was young (i'm not a kid anymore) I used to get a massage once a week. I've had both bad experiences as well as good. Never excellent, tho, until I found Cheeva Som Retreat. These little 85lb (on a good day) women walk in and you think to yourself, "Wtf is she gonna be able to do for me?" Psssssh. Everything, that's what. I wanted to ask her to marry me by the time she was through. They move your body in ways you never knew possible. Stretch and kneed and pull until you are completely worthless and need a cigarette and some rye on the rocks. I took a day off from work next week because I have two doctors appointments and a chiropractic appointment so I came up with the genius idea to treat myself to a massage afterwards. This place is excellent and legitimate! I am a power lifter which means that I am sore and tight a lot from my crazy workouts and despite all the stretching and foam rolling. Over the years, I have tried numerous massage places but this one is GOLD. Ask for NaNa or Anne. I always get the Swedish/Thai combination massage. Everytime I walk out of here, my aches and pains have gone away and I feel loosey goosey. They are very thorough and for only 70$/ hour, this is a steal. Not to mention that the place is clean, ambiance is nice and cozy and the staff are friendly and professional. I have had plenty of high end expensive spa massages in 5 star hotels but they still do not compare to the quality and thoroughness of the massage at Cheeva Som retreat. Unless this place ever closes, this will be my massage spot. Just went this afternoon and feel like I'm on cloud nine. They popped maybe 35 joints for me (in a good way). My back has never been this flat and relaxed together. They used quite a few unorthodox stretches and techniques that I was not used to. A few notes for first-timers: 1) This place focuses more on the massage than typical spa indulgences. The building looks a little sketchy, no wine beforehand, no frills interior.........just really solid massage technique. If you are looking for a large spa retreat with high end amenities, then this may not be your place. 2) Be prepared to be in some odd positions. They twisted my body in ways I have never been in before. You will likely need to communicate at least once that you need less pressure or need to make an adjustment. I prefer this over a "light relaxation" approach. For me, this massage was more like awesome physical therapy. They will happily apply less pressure, but you may need to specifically ask for this. 3) They are super friendly. read more
