The wax service is where I had a different experience. I'm used to getting waxed regularly and haven't had issues in the past. I booked a Brazilian wax, and while the technician was nice, the service didn't go well for me personally. She went over the same areas multiple times, and it got to the point where my skin became very irritated. In one area, the wax caused my skin to lift and I did bleed, which has never happened to me before. She mentioned I may be sensitive, which I understand, but even so, I've never experienced that level of irritation or skin being pulled before. I also still had patches of hair left afterward, so I didn't feel the service was fully completed the way I expected. She did discount $10 from the service, but I still left feeling like the experience wasn't what I paid for or expected. The place itself is nice and the staff were polite, and I don't want this to come off as bashing anyone. I'm just sharing my personal experience so others are aware. Overall, I would return for the massage, but I personally would not get the waxing service again.

Communication was somewhat difficult because he spoke very quickly and had a strong accent, but we were eventually able to schedule a weekday appointment. One thing that felt unusual was being asked to redeem my Groupon voucher over the phone before arriving, since most places typically redeem it onsite. Shortly afterward, I received a text confirmation for a Thai combo massage instead of the deep tissue massage I booked. I called back immediately, and Jose assured me the reservation was corrected. On the day of the appointment, we arrived about 10 minutes early. There is free parking available in the back, and the massage studio is a very small space located at the corner of the building with only three treatment rooms. The massage lasted about 55 minutes total with quite a lot of stretching. I was told to face up, down and even on my sides. The masseuse only used a hand towel to cover while I was turning. Despite being with my husband's presence, it felt awkward because the towel was too small and there was lots of time wasted on repositioning. We asked Jose about the stretching because it seemed more like a Thai massage than a deep tissue session. Due to language barrier, I understood that they incorporate stretching into their deep tissue massages as part of their technique. He also mentioned that if clients do not want stretching, they should let the therapist know beforehand. Since this was our first visit on deep tissue, we had no way of knowing that stretching would be such a large component of the massage. This is definitely not the typical Western deep tissue masaage that I have received in the past two decades and I typically get at least one massage weekly. My husband only got some leg stretches and he didn't need to move to the sides at all. Will I be back? Due to the close proximity, I would give this place a second chance but I will get a new therapist other than Alex.

At one point the bottom half of my butt was exposed and I believe he was scolded by the female masseuse who was massaging my sister bc he immediately covered me after she spoke to him. However, my friend had a completely different experience. The woman who did her massage was too rough, and it actually left my friend in pain afterward. What really made things uncomfortable was the situation with tipping. We paid upfront, and when we finished, we thanked them and walked out. As we were heading to our car, the woman who massaged on my friend followed us outside and asked for a tip. I gave her the $10 cash I had, but then she insisted that it should be $20 per person. Since we didn't have more cash, she made us go back inside to leave an additional tip on a card. I understand tipping is appreciated, but it should never feel forced or demanded. This situation felt unprofessional and honestly a bit uncomfortable. I was considering coming back because my massage was good, but after that experience, I won't be returning.

First time visitors who normally don't venture outside of the I-10 loop, we accidentally passed the house and had to make a circle, but it is right on Studewood, so stay alert or you might just miss it! There is a tiny lot behind the house, but there was only one other car there so we were able to park without issue. (Not sure where you would park if there were more than 2-3 cars..street parking a couple of blocks away? Won't be a problem while businesses are limiting capacity due to COVID though.) Our room was simple but clean. Didn't notice any hooks or places to put our clothes so we just placed them on a counter near the separate fridge-but-for-hot-things (It looked like a mini-fridge but I'm pretty sure the hot towels/coals were stored there, haha). Jamie and Sammy were our masseuses, and they asked us the pressure level before they beginning. The boyfriend wanted deep tissue, and I went with medium pressure. Next time, I will probably ask for deep tissue for my upper/lower back, but medium pressure was perfect for my legs and arms. They really stretched out our muscles and massaged areas I didn't even know were sore! My boyfriend proclaimed this was his favorite massage he's gotten. Sammy pinpoint all his knots and targeted all his sore spots. If I had to be nitpicky, I would say that in the beginning of the massage the phone rang several times (like at least 4 times in a row), and even with the doors closed and the background spa music it was audible. Perhaps if there was a way for their phone system to automatically go to voicemail or be silenced if there is no one at the front desk, that would have elevated the overall experience. Prices are pretty reasonable, perhaps a little higher than I can afford to come back regularly but worth it! We'll return.
