The lady/owner who is always at the restaurant is so welcoming and makes us feel at home every time we dine in. She also offers to entertain our baby son while my husband and I eat. The regular has been eating here for 20 years and loved it. After we ate our order I wasn't that impressed Our order: Wonton soup - the wonton is deconstructed and was not good Egg drop soup - very simple not too much flavor but I'd order again Happy family w/ white rice - good except the beef was very chewy Sesame chicken w/ white rice - decent . My favorite Chinese restaurant in Houston. Their General's Chicken is the best in the city. No else makes it like them, in my experience.

The food wasn't the issue. I think the food was decent for the price. I ordered the wings, Singapore noodles, and the house fried rice. Not sure if I would return because I picked up a very bad energy from the older lady that rung me up. She didn't smile and she didn't offer me a menu when I told her I wanted to place an order. She looked at me strangely and asked me something completely unrelated to my reason for being there. She asked me if I walked there for whatever reason. I found it odd but then I realized she was judging me. At that moment I should have probably left but i was hungry after having my whole day wasted at the municipal courthouse. This spot just so happen to be along my route home. Even as she swiped my card, charging me 30+ bucks she didn't smile or give me the warm welcome that I expected as a first time customer. As i sat and waited for my food to be brought out I took notice of the interior and there were dirty dishes piled on a few of the tables so I found a clean table to wait. After a while my food was brought out and the same lady asked me if I had paid which was another red flag to me. How could someone who just charged me could forget so soon that I had already paid? I had my receipt in hand just incase she tried to scam me and charge me again but once she saw the receipt she held her hand out for it and kept it. I didn't put up a fuss about the receipt but I do know that the receipt was mine to keep. Overall, I love Asian cuisine but I'm very tough on customer service. No matter how good the food taste, I will not tolerate disrespect or poor customer service from any establishment where I am spending money. This place blew my mind the first time we got take out. Not sure how I've never encountered it previously either, as I've hit most of the notable Chinese in and around downtown. Whether you want American or traditional Chinese, there is something here for everyone. Flavors are balanced, light, and not what you expect from the bulk of Chinese throughout the inner loop, being typically super Americanized. General Tso's has the most amazing crunchy texture and may be in the top 3 for this dish for me. Hunan Beef, the spicy crispy Shrimp, and Yu Shiang pork are all great too. The chicken with spicy oyster sauce and chicken with black pepper sauce will leave your taste buds delighted as well. Finally, the prices at this place are just insane to me. Entrees in the loop sub-$10 is just not something you see often, being more aligned with Chinatown. I tend to over-order here as a result, but totally worth it. The leftovers always disappear promptly within 24 hours. From a takeout, safety stand point, definitely no concerns here at all. They have your food ready at the door, take your card, allow you to sign outside and it's as contactless as one can make it these days. Look forward to one day being able to dine in. read more

I called in an order and they told me it would be ready in 20 minutes. I showed up 20 minutes later to an empty restaurant literally nobody in the entire room. I stood at the counter for about five minutes and then wandered back to see if anybody was in the kitchen. There was a guy and he was upset that I came back there, he was the only one there and he was preparing the food. It took him another 15 minutes to do so because he was all alone. The food was mediocre and the guy clearly did not know how to make a spring roll. I won't be going back there again. read more

What a gem! We've been searching for a Chinese restaurant here in Houston. The taste of the food was better than expected. The Tangy Spicy Chicken was by far the best we've had. The dish was not only full of flavor it had plenty of veggies. The Singapore noodles were a hit too. I ordered the dish extra spicy and with chicken and shrimp but I'll probably leave out the shrimp next time; I'm not a fan of shrimp. The dish was still good nonetheless. Whoa! What an experience! How do they stay in business one wonders? Every dish was really terrible & mostly unrecognizable from any knowledge or experience you may have had of a dish you thought you knew well. I think the cook must be a survivor of long COVID who lost his sense of taste back in 2020 but has every confidence the food looks delicious. There is no other explanation for why he would inflict his cooking on innocent people. I guess a lot of customers know about this restaurant because nobody goes there a second time. Sad. read more

I was really craving Chinese food and this was pretty much the closest Chinese food restaurant around. We got and for some apparent reason there was really no one there. The outside plaza is cute however when you walk inside, there are little to no decorations and there is only one waitress. The waitress was nice and very attentive, she took our order which was the broccoli and beef combination and the cashew chicken. The combination plate came with fried rice, an egg roll, and a soup. The other mean just came with rice. The order was to-go and when we got home everything we ordered was in the bag, Woohoo! I was a bit annoyed to find no utensils or paper towels in the bag, good thing we were home if not eating would have been very uncomfortable. I dove into my broccoli beef and I really couldn't eat it at all. The food was so salty and flavorless. The rice was not even fried, it literally tasted like steamed rice with a tin of soy sauce in it. The egg roll was probably the only decent thing in this whole meal. The soup was also very salty and flavorless; I really could not eat. I decided to try my significant others cashew chicken however it look like someone threw up in his plate. If you order Hunan Bo Chicken (very good) to go, make sure the add your broccoli or other vegetables away from the chicken (like on top of the rice) and ask for the sauce on the side. (&vent your container) This way the chicken stays crispy! read more

The food itself is of decent quality for the price-point and the flavors are fairly on point. Overall rating 3.75 The food: 3.75 The Mongolian Beef comes sautéed and provides various vegetables and a good flavor of to the beef. The sesame chicken comes in small chunks and is also well made and crispy. The egg rolls were good and fried well if a little light on filling. The dumplings fried came it a little over and with a sauce that wasn't great but overall were an ok appetizer The location: 3.75 So conveniently located to the heights and first ward but probably would only take food to go The service: 4.5 Quick and attentive. This place is pretty much your super local, go to place, where you order your favorite thing, grab it to go and indulge at home. I however had the experience of novelty and time. Let's begin! Establishment: not earned: the restaurant is super small, worn looking, with uncomfortable seating. It was visually not dirty, but I can't say it was clean either. The tables had the look of being cleaned with a dusty greasy towel they clean even table with. Waitstaff: earned: The woman at the counter (possibly the owner) was extremely sweet, courteous, knew her regulars by name and totally willing to wipe down those tables (see above). Service: earned: The food came out quickly and we were tended to in a speedy fashion. Food/Drinks : NOT earned: I ordered the beef lo mein, it was very bland and disappointing. It was absolutely nothing like I was expecting it to be. Really, the portion was generous, but who wants who wants a ton of bland overly chewy food? The beef was like bubble gum. Food/Drinks: earned: I didn't order any fancy drink so this star is earned by the food I picked away from my friend. It was the best thing we tasted that night. This crispy General Tso's chicken in this thin savory sauce was really good. I ate it with white rice and the sauce carried this dish. AMAZING PLACE!! The food & people here are so wonderful. The chicken is cooked to perfection, I can't find better orange chicken anywhere else. Their fried rice is always perfect and fluffy. I've been getting it a lot lately and sharing with friends and they always want more!! The lady at the front is always so sweet and puts effort to recognize your face if you go often. This is the epitome of what is to be expected of cheap, greasy, mom and pop Chinese. Food is on the budget, the staff awkwardly hugs the regulars, and they are almost uncomfortably accommodating of those that enter. It's a bit warm inside, I suspect they save money on AC when it's not deathly hot outside. But man... The food is solid. Don't expect high dining cuisine, but you absolutely do get what is expected looking for a spot like this, and you will not be dissapointed. Food is good imo. I ordered a General Tso's Chicken, and althought it was different from my expectation, i guess it is okay to an extend. The portion is small. I had to ask for extra fried rice to fill me up. My meal had one General Tso's chicken, egg drop soup and ice tea. All of that and it was just $6.77 tax included so I do not want to complain a lot. Best bang in the buck I have to say. I wish they can have bigger portion as I am willing to pay more if the food is good. read more
