From the first few emails I knew that Josh was going to be great to work with. He listened to all of my ideas and together we came up with a delicious menu. He had so many amazing dishes as inspiration and really created the perfect menu for me and my guests. Josh answered all of my emails promptly and with such a kind attitude. We all absolutely loved the amazing food and the entire experience! Honestly, everyone was talking about it for days afterward. It was such a unique experience for each of us. None of us have ever been treated to such a special meal in a private home. There were many great comments about each course but the Oregon Mushroom Soup was the favorite for many! My sister doesn't usually like mushrooms but convinced herself to try the soup and then decided it was her favorite course ~ of course she loved everything else too. Josh and his assistant India were just so pleasant and approachable. That made a huge difference to the experience. We loved having both of them in our home. And... they cleaned everything up! Chef Berkeley catered our holiday office party and was a huge hit! I requested that he create a pairing menu with wine, beer and a vodka based cocktail and he knocked it out of the park. The employees loved his presentation and explanation of the foods he prepared and why he selected the drinks to go with them. He and his team were friendly and approachable. They made sure that everyone had enough food and drinks. All the food items were delicious but the charcuterie board and homemade cheese pretzels were standouts. Chef Berk is a pro. I had a caterer back out on me last minute, and so I went looking and found Chef Berk. It was a shot in the dark, but Chef Berk made everything so easy. He was communicative, creative, and very helpful through the process of putting together a last minute menu of cuisine from around the world to feed 70 people! He did it all with only two weeks notice! (Obviously you should give him more notice than I did). He delivered the food, helped set up our serving table, and explained each dish to us. The food was a huge hit at our event: Winter Ratatouille, Veggie Tteokbokki, and Jollof Rice with Chicken. Oh, and he did all this while working within our budget; incredible. This game was special, thus the hiring of Chef Berk, because it was the culmination of our group's 3 month long weight-loss contest. Because of the great reviews here on Yelp, I figured Berk was up to the task and boy was I right! He was communicative and accommodating, skilled and friendly. Grilled cheese sandwich with onions and homemade pancetta on freshly baked homemade bread (I forgot to take a picture of this one because I was so excited to eat it). We were in Salem for the eclipse and wanted a cool way to celebrate a couple of birthdays. I contacted a couple of personal chefs, and Chef Berk was the first one to respond. Communication by phone and emails were prompt. We discussed the group's food aversions and he was able to send a list of choices for us to select 5 from. We had 6 adults and 4 kids (ages 9 and 5) and decided for the kids to share in the experience rather than the delicious sounding mac and cheese Chef offered. Since we were at an airbnb, he checked what the plating options were. He did bring 1 serving dish, but otherwise washed and reused plates. I was worried about the potential traffic into Salem on the Sunday night, but Chef kept an eye on it and arrived slightly early. He was set up and ready for service by our 6p request. Menu *ensemble of summer vegetables - light and flavorful, a great starter *hazelnut and ricotta ravioli in anaheim pepper and mushroom broth - the smell was amazing, flavors rich and textured, the peppers provided some heat (a couple of adultswere sweating, kids didn't have broth) *seared peach with feta and basil - delicious blend of savory and sweet *elote (corn casserole) - it was rich, probably could've done without the crema *brisket - holy moly, I HIGHLY suggest this dish. It was melt in the mouth good. If we could have refills, this would've been the one, except we were all so full. We really enjoyed the experience. Chef Berk kept things flowing, we didn't feel like we were rushed or the service was too slow. He kept the kitchen tidy and we didn't have anything to clean expect to run the dishwasher. His online reviews highly recommended him, so we booked him for my birthday dinner, and I can tell you this -- he deserves every single star of this review! Prior to the dinner, we sent over what we were looking for in the dinner, described any dietary restrictions/preferences (we had none -- we eat everything!), and settled on the number of courses. Chef Berk arrived about 30 minutes prior to the dinner with all the prep work done and we had an amazing 3 hour birthday dinner that was paced perfectly. I found the dishes to be innovative, unique, and most importantly, extremely delicious, and I would not hesitate to hire Chef Berk again. An added bonus -- the day before our dinner with Chef Berk, we visited several wineries and bought a variety of wines we enjoyed.
