    Pastelito
    Stephanie L.

The service was great and the savory empanadas were delicious. We got the abulea chona & pollo ones and they tasted great. I don't know if it was an off day or this is how they are served. But we also ordered two of the pastelitos and it was not very good. The pasty was normal but the inside was filled with cubes of jelly instead of a smear of it. It was an odd & unexpected texture that I haven't had in previous pastelitos (usually a spread like a jelly filled donut). This is the only reason I'm docking a star, otherwise great food.

Absolutely delectable. Each empanada came out fresh, hot, and tasty. Ratio of stuffing to pastry was great. Chimichurri side was also incredible. Lastly staff was very nice and walked out the order to us when they saw we had our hands full of our kids. Would be a repeat customer hands down any time I'm in the area.

Delicious and flavorful! It was one of the freshest empanadas I've had, and everything was perfect about it.

This review is for Abuela Chona's cart at the new Beaverton cart pod. Had the Choripan with Chimichurri combo meal. Service was fast and friendly. But what I got for $12.95 was unacceptable. On a good day, the meal was worth about $8 at best. Cold and very dry sausage (very small, maybe 4 inches, too). Red potato "fries" which were baked not fried that may have been good if they were freshly made, but they were cold and limp. The chimichurri was unlike any I've had before - good spice and flavor, but very dry. Like it had almost no oil in it. If it had more oil, then it could have made the sandwich better, especially with their dry sausage. And the price doesn't even include a cheap can of pop. The positive reviews tout their empanadas. IF I try them again, I'll look into those. They get the second star only because of the tasty dulce de leche cookie. I noticed the a la carte price for the cookie was $1.95. Abuela Chona is pushing Lechon entree prices at a lunch truck in Beaverton! Good luck with that!!

I love Abuela Chona's empanadas. Especially the Espinaca! It's so warm and filling! And the pastry is flaky!

Staff was incredibly nice and provided suggestions for us as there are a number of choices to pick from and most of them sounded amazing so narrowing it down to just one was very hard. They make their own marshmallows and you can purchase some of the flavors to take home as well, a great souvenir if you know someone who is a big marshmallow fan. I went with the Buckeye, because peanut butter! And all of the S'mores are on gluten free graham crackers which honestly seemed to taste so much better than regular graham crackers that always have a stale taste about them. My husband had the Rollin' in the Dirt (think a dirt cake) and also gave it two thumbs up. They told us that they are looking to relocate just across the street from their current mini location so don't fret if you don't see them in this same spot!

BEST MEAL IN PORTLAND!!!!!…read more Saw this place randomly while looking for a place to eat after a long flight. It was late and not many places were open. This place was closed but a middle eastern place that serves cheesecake was soo intriguing that i knew i needed to come back. Came back Saturday night and they had no tables and was packed. However, they tried to accommodate us so much. However, the night was in our favor. As we started to order take out, a lady was kind enough to give up her table since she was eating alone. It was a small table for 3 people but the staff was sooo accommodating i have no words. They even gave free dessert to the lady who was kind. Then luck would have it, the table next to us never showed up for their reservation so they gave us that table. Finally, we ordered. Turned out, i also got the last shawarma too. Everything happens for a reason! We also got the Saudi chicken kabsa and cheesecakes. The biggest compliment i can give is when the food came, none of us talked for a good 5-7 mins and just sat there in heaven eating. The flavors were soo unique but yet so familiar. If this is Saudi food, i have been missing out. I need to explore more sub categories of middle eastern cuisine. Best bites in Portland for us and that's all i have to describe our experience. Finally, got the Nutella cheesecake and almond caramel cheesecake. I have to say, Nutella was good but easily a skip compared to almond and caramel. Just get 2 of those and you'll be happy. The cakes itself are light and not heavy. They were great end to a great meal. This is a family owned but family loved business. You can see the love as they serve their guests but you can taste the love too. The people are soo sweet and kind and just want to serve you. Please give your love here, because if i lived in Portland, this would my weekly spot.

Spoke to a couple 20-something Saudi guys who had traveled from Seattle to eat food like their moms and grandmas made in their childhoods. They ordered a lot of food and cleaned their plates happily. I am going back next week to try the other half of the menu and cannot wait! This is a must- go restaurant as there is something for everyone, vegan, vegetarian or carnivore The cheesecakes? By 3:20, no one had arrived and I still hadn't heard anything. Around 3:25, I began trying to contact someone. After finally reaching someone after 3:30, I was told the kitchen had been extremely busy that day. At that point, I began to suspect the food might not be coming. At 3:49 PM -- just minutes before guests were arriving for a two-hour event -- I received a call letting me know the food had not even been made yet. I was told it might be ready "in a couple hours," and they suggested I order food elsewhere instead. We were left scrambling at the absolute last minute. We ended up ordering pizzas and salad from a local restaurant while family members rushed to the grocery store to put together charcuterie boards in the kitchen as guests arrived. It was stressful, embarrassing, and honestly hard to believe. I have worked in hospitality, events, fundraising, and vendor management since 2008 -- from hotels to nonprofit development work -- and I regularly hire caterers, bartenders, and vendors for professional events. In all those years, I have never experienced a caterer simply not show up and fail to communicate beforehand that they would not be delivering. To their credit, the contact person did apologize afterward and explained they were understaffed and going through staffing challenges. She also stated they would refund the order and help reimburse the replacement food costs. However, nearly a week later, I still have not received the full refund or reimbursement. I understand that difficult days happen in the service industry. What was most disappointing here was the complete lack of communication before the event and the position it put us in as hosts. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not feel comfortable relying on this company again for an event.

We didn't want to do a traditional sit-down or buffet dinner and worked with Reedville to do more of a food station, heavy hors d'oeuvres set-up for our cocktail party reception. Every single item they made was seriously delicious, not just 'good' - NW salmon cakes, goat cheese tartlets, teriyaki meatballs for passed apps, and the charcuterie presentation was beautiful. Sweet chili shrimp skewers, thai peanut chicken, asparagus risotto, arugula salad, plus two custom items we asked for: pork belly bao buns and fried chicken sliders. Everything was out of this world. When we asked to do pork belly bao buns, they didn't bat an eye or even ask any questions - and then absolutely nailed it. The amount of food was perfect. They also tended bar for us with 2 signatures and a full bar and everyone was happy and drunk the whole evening :) The team was super friendly and professional, and Jessica's responsiveness was lightning fast.
