The variety of ice creams (both dairy and non-dairy for those who are lactose intolerant like me) and the ability to sample them without pressure was great. The server took care of us, and the outdoor seating was the perfect place to enjoy our cones on a hot summer night. The massive crowds of people there also enjoyed their night as well, as the place was poppin'. The portion size of the scoops, their patience, and the quality of the cones, all together made for a quality night.

It was a really good first impression. Also Black Sesame is one of my absolute favorite flavors I always order for any dessert. Now fast forward to now, I'm back here for a visit. When we got inside it wasn't busy at all. Service was friendly and helpful. When I walked inside to see their Taiyaki soft serve options, I was pretty disappointed. They only had three flavors available. And I have to be honest, the flavors didn't interest me. It was just Vanilla, Green Tea, and I think Chocolate? Maybe a Mango flavor too which seemed seasonal. I'm sure they were good but the ice cream section had flavors I wish were soft serve like Black Sesame and a milk tea one. We ended up getting their ice cream instead because they had a larger assortment of flavors. And when I tried the sample, the flavor was decent. Two years ago, my 5/5 stars was for my Taiyaki experience. Now it's 3/5 stars for the ice cream. I got the Black Sesame and Coffee ice cream scoops with the waffle cone. Flavor was there, the waffle cone was good, but the ice cream didn't blow me away by any means. I wish this place had more variety for their soft serve because it's worth the money for me. Most of my disappointment came from that I'd probably never have the Black Sesame soft serve Taiyaki again from here because I only had it that one time, and also there weren't any appealing flavors for the soft serve I would've been excited to try instead. I would not come back here for their regular ice cream, I'd just spend my money somewhere else.

Let me first state that I have been a vegetarian since 1987, and I've lived all over this country, East Coast, West Coast, in the mountains, and down South. I have tried a lot of different V food over the past 40 years. Fortunately, vegan and vegetarian food has come a LONG way since the 80's. Especially vegan food. It's not great everywhere, but overall V food is steadily improving. So many times I've seen restaurants interpret vegan food as "here's the standard meal that's familiar to everyone, let's remove all meat and dairy ingredients and Voilà!! It's vegan now," as if vegans don't value flavor as part of the eating experience. So when my friend suggested we go to Chef Tanya's for dinner, I agreed, with quiet hesitation. However, at Chef Tanya's, EVERY SINGLE THING WE TRIED WAS DELICIOUS! My friend and I ordered a few different items and it was just one "omg" after the other, so tasty that I confidently recommended this place to my meat-eating friends because everything tasted so f***ing good! Even the desserts were delicious, and vegan desserts are challenging. This was some of the best food I've ever eaten in my lifetime . Thank you for a wonderful meal, super friendly and helpful staff, and really cute gifts that I bought for my friends. It was just good vibes from start to finish. The space is welcoming and comfortable. I will be stopping here for food every single time I return to the desert. Thank you for a great night! I had high expectations for Tanya's Kitchen, especially coming from Los Angeles where vegan food is done incredibly well. Unfortunately, this place fell short for me. The hype around it is big, but I think it's inflated since it's one of the few vegan options in Palm Desert. One thing that should be nearly impossible to screw up is the basic French fry. However, these fries came out looking like the leftover crumbs from the fryer. Apparently, this is how they always come out -- why? It's such a simple dish, yet it was a real letdown. Overall, I wanted to love this place, but for the price and the reputation, I was expecting something a bit more refined. If you're craving vegan in this area, it's worth a try, but don't expect it to compare to the caliber of spots in LA. read more

Oh my gosh! I really did not know what to expect from this restaurant. Was I surprised? I'll say I was. The food was amazing and the wait staff were just as amazing. There were three of us, two had the Cubano Sandwich and I had the daily soup. The best vegetable soup I have ever, ever had. I don't know how they made it taste so good. I also had an order of fries with chipolte mayo and I thought I'd died and gone to heave. And the vibe was terrific too. I could have stayed all day and just hung out. My mom had the "fish" sandwich special (so good that I have to go back and get it myself) and I had to cubano and a chlorophyll water. Everything was amazing! The merch inside the store is also cute. I used to come here all the time but they increased their prices and offer smaller portions of food now. I think they should consider locals and offer them discounts, especially during the slow season. Otherwise it's just a tourist trap for people that won't stick around and help keep your business a float. read more

I waited about 15-20 minutes for my sandwiches. While I was waiting, I was looking into the kitchen and noticed two sandwiches sitting on the shelf. I didn't think much of it at first, so I continued waiting. However, I started noticing that White customers who had ordered after me were getting their food before I did. Of course, I didn't immediately think much of it, but once my name was finally called, I noticed that they grabbed the two sandwiches that had been sitting on the shelf for about 10 minutes. At that point, I noticed that all of the White customers had already left, while me and another Latino customer were still waiting. I grabbed my sandwiches, and they looked amazing. But once I took a bite, they definitely weren't as good as they LOOKED. My French dip sandwich was cold, and the bread was hard to chew. The bread on the cold sandwich was also hard, and honestly, it seemed like the same type of bread that Jersey Mike's uses. The meat inside was good, but the bread itself was disappointing. I know the preparation might have taken a long time for the French Dip but if you know it's going to take a long time then maybe do that one at the end since it's a "served hot" sandwich and do the cold one first. But why were they BOTH on the shelf for 10 min? I didn't want to complain at the time because I noticed that the kitchen was mostly made up of younger individuals, and I didn't want to make a big deal about it. But afterward, I realized that it was my money that I spent, and I had every right to say something. Now I'm left wondering: Was this simply forgetfulness, or was there something more to it? I can't say for certain that racism was involved, but the experience definitely made me question why I was treated differently from the customers who ordered after me.
