This spot that was featured on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives, and it definitely lives up to the reputation. Ordered the New York style hot pastrami on rye with coleslaw and a Dr. Brown's Cream Soda. The pastrami was the highlight. Piled high, tender, and full of that classic deli flavor with just the right amount of richness. The rye bread held everything together well and had a nice bite to it. It's the kind of sandwich you have to take a second to look at before figuring out how to eat it. The coleslaw was fresh and crisp, a good balance to the sandwich, and the cream soda was cold and refreshing. Also ordered a slice of pistachio cake to go. Absolutely delicious. The place has that old school deli feel, busy but in a good way, and full of character. Service was friendly and efficient even with the crowd. Definitely a spot worth stopping at if you're in Palm Desert and want a proper deli sandwich. read more

We'd been to the Palm Springs location and recently gave this spot a go. Same good food. Wifey and #2 daughter got the matzoh ball soup and split a pastrami sammy. Got it with cole slaw instead of sauerkraut. Top notch. Soup and sandwich were both excellent. I went with the Club. Solid. Daughter also grabbed the strawberry shortcake. This was just ok. Was recommended to try this authentic Jewish deli and their pastrami. We were seated immediately and our server took our drinks shortly thereafter. Hostess and waitress were both professional and friendly. Our husbands ordered the pastrami, one in the and the other on a Kaiser roll. I split a turkey Sammy with my friend and we also split a root bear float. The pastrami was very tender and tasty and not at all too salty. Rye bread was good but too much bread with the Kaiser roll. Turkey sandwich was very dry and nothing to wow about. They served us pickles at the beginning of the meal which was good. Got a piece of chocolate cake to go as well as their rice pudding. We had a negative experience here last year, concerning the difference between British Kippers and Deli Kippers. Since we were in the area for an hour or so, we gave it another go. Service was excellent. Seated immediately and ordering minutes later. Got extra cream cheese on request and our coffees were diligently refilled. The main attraction was the pastrami sandwich. Totally to my wife's taste, extremely lean and stacked high. She had to take half home. I tried an omelette with corned beef and loved it. There's usually not much overlap between restaurants I get excited to eat at, and those featured by Guy Fieri on his Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Sherman's Deli & Bakery is the rare exception. This old-school Jewish deli (locations in Palm Desert and Palm Springs) handles the classics well. The grilled Reuben is my order: crispy toasted rye packed with corned beef, sauerkraut, melted Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island dressing. The cold beet borscht, loaded with shredded beets and cucumbers and topped with sour cream, is refreshing. My dad loves their chocolate phosphate, which is a classic old soda fountain beverage. The latkes are huge and dense (but not my favorite rendition, as I love a good crisp latke), but everything else works for food nostalgia. Our waitress called everyone "honey," which fit the script perfectly. Save room for dessert: chocolate layer cake or New York cheesecake, or go authentic with four kinds of rugelach--chocolate (good and thankfully, not made with chocolate chips!) cinnamon, raspberry, and apricot. read more

This is a second review since I don't know if the other one went through. I had the latke corn beef special( not seasonal) it came with sour cream and apple sauce I chose potato salad as a side. Had half took the rest to go. my dad had the 4-6 pm dinner special with brisket. Designed like typical style old Jewish deli. It was excellent well portioned I could see why all the awards were up and the service was great. Now I had to go to the counter to assess the deserts myself. Amazing food and service. Everything we ordered was delicious. We ordered the matzo ball soup, knish, pastrami sandwich, hot bbq sandwich, the tuna salad, and original cheesecake. My favorite was the knish - the mashed potatoes were so creamy and the gravy so good! My family actually preferred the bbq sandwich over the pastrami, but I think it's because we didn't add mustard to the pastrami (took it to-go). Everyone loved the matzo ball soup (so perfect for a winter day). I had the tuna salad, which comes with half of the plate of fruit. It's a unique salad and I like it! First off, everyone that works here was absolutely kind and welcoming from the moment we walked in. Jenny was our waitress & given that it was later in the evening on the day before Christmas Eve, she was in the best spirits, answered all of our questions and helped us decide what to try on our first visit. It might've been because this was our first meal after a rainy 7 hour drive, but this was hands down some of the best food I've ever had. I'm talking "I want this as my last meal" good. We started with a bowl of the chicken noodle soup with a matzo ball. Fantastic broth, savory and not greasy. The matzo ball was firm yet tender and seasoned well. We then shared the Ruben. Wonderfully tender corned beef, awesome rye, and a perfectly done sauerkraut that didn't overwhelm the sandwich. And the "fries" were excellent too (dip them in the side of thousand island, you won't be mad at me). So glad we decided to come here on our way home from PD. We don't have a nice Jewish restaurant near our home so we decided to check this place out. They do serve breakfast even though on Yelp only displayed their lunch/dinner item menu. Everything from the Cinnamon French toast, Everything Bagel with cream cheese and jam, bacon, cheddar cheese, and avocado omelette & chocolate chip pancakes for the kiddos. Def recommend "Dr Brown's" soda (black cherry) It really hit the spot! It was my 1st Dr. Brown's soda. The deserts looked amazing too. We took some cookies and treats home. Overall , this place is way better than "Breakfast Republic".. wish we would have come here for early Father's Day brunch! This place is a mom/pop shop.. very traditional and not trendy! Geared for children too! The kids meals are the size of an adult meal for the chocolate chip pancakes. Palm desert folks are so fortunate to have this amazing deli/bakery in their home town. Their menu is full of deli comfort food: pastrami, corned beef, Reuben's, beef dips, matzo balls, cakes, bagels, etc. I was here a year ago and enjoyed a Reuben stacked high with meat and sauerkraut. This visit I had a small bowl of sweet and sour cabbage soup and a beef dip, both warm servings of comfort! Everything is fresh and flavorful. Be sure to say yes when asked if you want pickles. Good food and portions. Have visited the Palm Springs location before and it's more unique, but this one is still good for the food. Had a lot of fat on my pastrami Reuben, but that was the only negative for it. Was told the French dip was flavorless, and needed some sort of sauce to add since the au jus didn't do what it needed to. read more

Went here on a recent vacation. The muffins and soups were all great. Hit or miss on the rest of the dishes. We liked the knishes, but the blintzes, corned beef hash, and other items we had were meh (lox platter and chopped liver) to pretty bad (gefilte fish and breakfast potatoes). Deli omelette was fine. The Rueben with pastrami was delicious. I loved the sauerkraut and toasted rye bread. They out the thousand island dressing on the side - I'm assuming so it didn't get soggy. But I can't get over that they charge $26 for the sandwich? There are a half dozen delis in the valley that charge half of that using the same ingredients. The surcharge is based on the name and reputation - but the prices are not warranted. I definitely wouldn't go back unless the prices reflect the prices shown on the menu on Yelp (which are obviously extremely outdated because they are literally half the price) read more

Come here every time when I I'm in town. Brunch and breakfast is pretty delicious but the last time we came here I tried the matzo ball soup and that is now my go to even if it's 8 am. The pastrami melts in your mouth and the sandwich provides generous amounts of meat that is so tender sweet and salty id that is even possible. Today we tried the corned beef Benedict and pastrami Benedict. Both were hits and will be my to dishes. The desserts also look amazing. Wish I came with more people so I could buy an entire cake. This place lived up to the hype. Being a frequent traveler to NYC and a self proclaimed New Yorker, I feel like I know good pastrami and corned beef. I will say that I was not disappointed at all with my food choice of the pastrami and corned beef sandwich. It was piled high and was tender and tasty. I generally prefer savory foods, with desserts simply an afterthought for me. Rarely do I like a dessert so much that I'll go back solely for that. The Coconut Cream Pie from Sherman's Deli & Bakery is the exception. The Coconut Cream Pie is so good it has me in a chokehold. Described on the menu as "Coconut Bavarian cream with toasted coconut flakes". However, it doesn't mention the delectable buttery & crumbly crust, a thin almost indiscernible layer of chocolate to preserve the crust and the rich thick layer of whipped cream layered on top of the coconut Bavarian cream. Lastly, it's finished off with toasted coconut flakes on top along with swirls of whipped cream. All the flavors and textures work together so well and it's just the right amount of sweetness without being overbearing. I didn't just get a slice this time. I got the whole pie, all to myself. It was $24.95 which is a better value than ordering slices even though the slices are a decent value given how hefty they are. I sliced the pie into eight slices and tossed it in the freezer. I just wanted to update that we eat here all the time and it's nine out of 10 times really good unlike most restaurants here in the desert who are only about 50-50 good most of the time. This is the food I grew up eating. It's my comfort cuisine. From the Kishka to the corned beef it's as good as it gets. Now that I've moved out to the desert as a year around resident I come here often, probably three or four times a month. It's a busy place, especially during "the season" so plan on a bit of a wait. The wait staff is on point, professional, patient and friendly. It's very well kept and considering the volume of diners always clean, even the bathrooms. Portions are typical NY style deli huge, especially the salads... which are fresh as can be. The soups are meals unto themselves. The turkey was a bit on the dry side which is why I knocked off one star. Definitely have had better but it was still a good sandwich. The fries were really good. We usually have to take our dessert to go because we are so full from eating a sandwich, but the desserts are so amazing we can't help but still order something to go. When it isn't summer, we enjoy sitting outside. Our pets are not well enough behaved to bring with us, but we enjoy the outside and seeing other people with their pets eating outside. Shermans deli in Palm Desert was my go to for corned beef on rye. Last two visits were very disappointing. Something has gone drastically wrong in the kitchen. The corned beef was very gristly, tasteless and full of fat. The pork ribs were boiled, tasteless and gristly. We couldn't believe they would serve such inferior food. FYI - this is the smaller of the two spots. The big one is in dt Palm Springs. But even with a big party, we just split it up and the wait hasn't been ridiculously long, even on a busy Sunday. Have been coming here for the past few years whenenver we're in the area, which is pretty much annually. LOTS and lots to choose from. Can't go wrong with the deli samiches; pastrami and the French dip are the way to go, at least for me, and the patty melt is always a good third option. But many many more samiches and stuff to choose from. The chicken noodle soup is also very good, both with or without the matzo balls. But if it's too crowded, just order to go and go enjoy anywhere you please =) food comes out or we're which...so never too long of a wait all in all... Entrees average around $20 so just couch your price expectations accordingly. Desserts - oh mother may I? Ton of selection and very good too. You can order from the pasty section to go, which a lot of people do, as there's a separate counter for the cakes and desserts. From the coconut cake to tiramisu to the pistachio cake, Service - super friendly and accommodating, even as busy as they get. Is there anything better than a beautiful summer day in Palm Springs with Sherman's for lunch? I don't think so! It's hard to find a good deli out on the west coast, but Sherman's stands out and has been amazing every time. Very busy and popular Jewish deli/restaurant. I went just for the cakes. They have an insane amount of options which is great! Got a double chocolate slice, a strawberry shortcake slice and a fruit tart. Each one was I think about $9 which is on the higher side but the portions are massive. They put it in a to go container and it still won't close! The cakes itself were very dry and the frosting was not the best, kind of grocery store quality. The service was where it was lacking. I asked the lady 3 times about the difference between cakes and she looked at me confused as if I was speaking a different language. read more
