    Grinch, Santa and Ms. Claus

So much fun. Brought back so many memories as a kid. I remember when the train ride used to leave from battle ground. Hopefully this all volunteer train ride keeps getting riders for funding. Fun to see Santa, Ms. Claus and a random Grinch, plus hot coco and cider at the train station.

2 hour ride aboard a diesel powered train. Was able to walk to the Yacolt River falls for a quick photo or two.

    Beautiful and well kept train

Absolutely amazing for volunteer only run train. We were well informed during the train ride and enjoyed the scenery. My children liked every moment. It is worth every dollar. I am glad the people of Yacolt spend their time and effort to make sure this can be something families can do and enjoy!!! Thank you. They are always looking for donators. Went for the Fathers Day Train ride. Had a lot of fun riding in the caboose, gorgeous scenery. Quite nostalgic going into the woods, stopped to explore the Falls. Well worth the coast and time.

Waving to Santa as we passed, stopped back on the way back for cookies and hot chocolate.

Just took the Christmas Tree Train ride with 3 kiddos. We originally planned to sit outside on the uncovered car but opted for the covered outdoor car since it looked like it was going to rain. Not as scenic I'm sure, but turned out to be a great choice since it rained the whole time we were on the trip. The scenery was great, seeing santa was fun, coffee was so gross (ended up going back for got chocolate which was good), and it was a cool experience. Recommendation would be to layer and dress warm with gloves and beanies just in case. Depending on the way the train is going it can be a bit windy and cold. That way you can still sit outside and enjoy it without being cold.

Went on the steam train to see santa, fabulous trip! The volunteers were amazing and knowledgable and santa was so fabulous with the kids...will definitely go again!!!

I went to this when I was really little. And I might as well say that this is probably one of the best railroads around the WA area period!

There is much history here ranging from the American Indians, settlers, European explorers, immigrants, the lifestyle and hardships endured and more here at the museum. There are many stories you can read about and information on periods during the Gorge's history. The Skamania County historical society collect, preserve and display all sorts of tools, trinkets and more from the time period all related to the Gorge and all involved. There are many generous donors as noted on many of the displays which is cool. In the yard, there are old vehicles and construction equipment of the early days showing how supplies and timber were moved. They are worn and rusted but adds to its historical significance. The museum is about 3 floors, the 2nd floor is small, but packed with information about the nature around the gorge. There are theaters that show short features of the environment about the gorge. Depending on how deep your fascination for this goes, you could spend about 2 hours here a bit more if you read and examine all the displays. This museum is a perfect field trip for a school or parents looking to educate their youngsters about the history of the area. Even then, if you enjoy Pacific Northwest history, definitely add this to your list of museums to visit.

I truly didn't look at Yelp before buying tickets to the museum and a showing of the planetarium. My fiancé and I finished walking the museum in 30 minutes because it was full of children from camp. We weren't going to play or interact with the museums when children were there and it was sciences we already knew. I was saddened thinking it was a museum for adults. In addition, we absolutely bought the wrong tickets for the planetarium. We ended up at a KPOP Delon Hunters Laser Show. We didn't know what to expect. Whoever made the show did an exceptional job, but we wanted to see something that completely encompasses the entire planetarium. Ultimately, perfect for children. Not adults. The 4 stars is that it is still a great museum.... For children.

It's one of the best places in the greater Portland area to experience the full spectrum of autumn arborea, from late September through November, including the scenic drive when approaching from either direction. It is, perhaps unsurprisingly, one of the most photographed structures in the Pacific Northwest. If you do happen to luck out and arrive in the early afternoon hours on Saturday (and maybe Sundays again, in the future), you're treated to a handful of volunteers demonstrating the operation of the milling machines, and providing inexpensive bags of fresh flour and other milled materials for purchase by "donation", the proceeds contributing to the maintenance and operation of this historic site. There are also hands-on opportunities for kids (and adults!) as well as informative posters and infographics that give a glimpse into the history and operation of the mill during its heyday. Private tours are available, as well as booking options for weddings, rehearsals, and similar events, with information available on-site, and on their website.
