You're from Nashville, in Oklahoma City for one night, you could eat steak (there's some good choices), but...what if you've been on the OU campus all day and you really just need comfort food... Well then shoot, it's gotta be Mexican. I read a ton of reviews for all the Mexican restaurants within a 10 mile radius of my hotel... and we ended up at Chalino's Mexican restaurant. It's not because the decorations were garish (I love them), it's not because our waitress was great, but she was, and it's not because even things I don't normally like, I liked there... It's all three. Great spot, unassuming but nicely executed food, great drinks, spicy salsa, great staff...and an atmosphere that is very comfortable. Well done Chelino's... I'm a fan. I'll be honest, we hadn't eaten here in a very long time. There are so many restaurants to choose from now but we came back to our original Del City favorite! It felt great to come back to Chelinos and experience great service, atmosphere, and food! I had forgotten how delicious their chicken enchiladas with beans and rice are! Hands down my favorite with sour cream sauce on top! My husband loved his beef enchiladas also. Great flavors and textures with their rice and beans too. We were pleasantly surprised that the set-up before the meal still includes free cheese sauce and sopaipillas for dessert if you want one. Our food was served piping hot and absolutely delicious! Service was friendly and attentive. The colors and decor are pretty inside and it's very relaxing and inviting there. We will not stray again. Next time I'm going to try a chicken taco salad. This place used to be so good. It had definitely fallen off over the years. I appreciate them for accommodating my party of 30 with a two hour notice. The servers were excellent and did the best they could. The chips were all broken and the tortillas were so hard and crunchy. The relish had like one carrot in it. The food is mid at best. The quesabirria tacos needed more cheese and flavor. The rice and beans were just that, rice and beans. Again we knew what to expect it's good enough for the price because it's fairly inexpensive. read more

more like a 2.5. Havent been here in quite some time so we decided to give it a try. Wasn't busy so we were seated promptly. Menus delivered as well as the set up. Drink orders taken. Once we had the drinks we ordered. I had the fajita mixed(chicken,beef and sausage) lunch special with Mexican street corn and chino beans. My wife had 2 crispy beef fajita meat tacos with the standard refried beans and rice. Food was delivered. Nothing sizzling. No peppers with the fajitas. Only an over abundance of onions tht were partially cooked. The Mexican street corn had a good grilled flavor but had some type of cheese sprinkled on it tht was just off for me. Not saying it was bad, just not what I expected. Looked like parm but wasn't. The chino beans were ok. The fajita meat was warm as were the rest of the items on my plate. My wife's tacos were ground beef, not fajita meat. They tasted ok but the refried beans didn't. Over all there was not very much seasoning on either of our plates. Our server was very good and took care of refills on drinks but not the chips, which were pretty much pieces of chips. Overall not really not please. Wasn't bad but wasn't great either. I have been coming here for different military lunch events since 2008. I have eaten at other locations since the late 1990s. This has to be my fave location! The flautas are my fave, and I cant get enough of their chips, salsa, and queso! The staff have always spoiled me, been prompt and more than curteous! Chelino's used to be the spot. If I had company I'd always go to Chelino's. It's the only Mexican restaurant that I would ever frequent, however for the past two to three years the quality is off. My last meal there was Last week it was subpar. I don't know what's going on with the company but it's time for me to move on. Sorry Chelino's. I had the Chelino's dinner. Came here on the recommendation of a friend. So glad we did! Since moving to OK from Texas, we haven't found decent Mexican food... until now. I had the Shrimp Tacos. Mediocre Mexican at best. The service was very good and the restaurant was clean, but the food is not that great. I had the flauta lunch plate. The chicken flauta was dry with no sauce or seasoning on the shredded chicken. I was also frustrated that there was no option to sub another side besides rice and beans. The cheese sauce and chips were a bit concerning. The cheese has a strange color and texture. It's looks like liquid plastic, but, strangely, still tasted like cheese sauce. Food was okay, but the chicken in the chimichanga taste like can chicken. We went there to celebrate my granddaughters 12th birthday. We had dinner and requested to order dessert. I happily purchased dessert for our party of six. I explained we were celebrating 2 birthdays and pointed out the girls, expecting the whole birthday gig they do for all customers. We got nothing! The girls were totally disappointed. We know they sing happy birthday because they did it for another customer while we ate. This was my granddaughters first birthday since her father passed away, and she chose Chelinos because it was her father's favorite restaurant. I did everything but beg. Margaritas as big as your head and delicious...that's the only thing you need to know! The food is good compared to what other Mexican restaurants in this area have to offer. Service is always pleasant, food is consistently good, and the margaritas are simply stellar. Besides Del Rancho this is the only place I insist on visiting when I am in OKC. Well done! read more

Went here for the for the first time.. This place is "decent" if you are craving quick Mexican food for lunch during the work week.. The staff was very friendly and attentive! As we sat down, we were served chips, salsa, and cheese dip.. I'm not sure if this is an Oklahoma thing, but other Mexican restaurants in the area give you that cheese dip.. That is new to me, but anyways... I ordered the Chicken Fajitas lunch special, that came out in no time.. The food was decent, and came out hot! I wish they would have given me more chicken, instead of the 4-5 slices that was on my plate.. Not sure if that was because it was a lunch special, but all and all it was a "decent" quick lunch! completely disappointed in the MANAGER of this establishment. We had my grandmother's 85th birthday dinner here with a party of 40. This was a planned event with a reservation and they only placed one waitress for the whole group. the poor girl was trying to keep up with everything and did a totally excellent job. when we tried to get her help the MANAGER blamed her and told her she was doing terrible and we had complained about her. Her being by herself was on the manager, not her. We all reassured her she was doing what she could. the manager didn't start helping until after we had even mentioned that she needed help. 10/10 the waitress was wonderful. the manager needs to figure out how to get her people help, especially on big parties. Give the waitress a raise, fire the damned manager. read more

We landed at Chelino's for the first time in years only because we were given a gift card, and it didn't take long for us to remember why we don't eat here anymore. Outside of our kind and attentive waitress, absolutely nothing about our meal was special. The chips are too thick and not at all salty, the salsa is fine but no hint of spice whatsoever, and the tortillas are straight out of the package from the grocery store. We all had standard Mexican dishes--enchiladas, fajita chicken, tostadas--and everything was just okay or even on the over-cooked, flavorless side. Honestly, the best tasting food in the table was my daughter's chicken tenders off the kid's meal, which was disappointing to say the least. To add insult to injury, we found that our meal cost more than at any of our other more frequented, better-tasting Mexican restaurants. We'll choose more wisely next time. read more

My wife and I have been going to this Chelinos since our kids were itty bitty (they are all in their 20's now). We have been regulars throughout the years. Something has changed though. The menu is now different, the portions are smaller, and now the mixed drinks are just watered down garbage.... not to mention the mixed drinks are now way smaller but still cost the same price! In just a matter of months, this location has gone from being a place we love, to being a place we can do without. I don't know if all of the locations have done this same thing, but I suspect they have. I actually complained to the staff about my concerns. They agreed, and they told me that the kids of Chelino have taken over the business and that they've cut down the portions and changed their mixed drinks to "maximize profit". So, sadly, after all these years, I guess we'll be looking for a new Mexican restaurant to go to. It's a shame that the kids are ruining such a great place. read more

Family and I ate here. I got a burrito with fajita chicken. The chicken was so dry and hard. I took two small bites didn't touch the beans or rice. The waitress brought my ticket and did not take off the meal. Someone else did but then added on 4.99 chips and salsa. Will NOT be coming back and will let everyone know of their customer service. Chelino's has been a favorite spot of mine in Oklahoma City for a few years now. It's sentimental in many ways, and many memories have been made here. Today was the first time I'd been to one of Chelinos locations in a while, and it didn't disappoint. Our waiter was excellent. Which, in my experience, the staff are always amazing and don't even give you a chance to ask for something due to them being so observant. The food was excellent- as always. A drink in an ice cold goblet/schooner with lime pulp and salt all around the rim. Fresh salsa and sauces that taste straight out of the garden, and unbelievably reasonable prices. They bring out salsa and cheese dip at no extra charge, and be sure and ask for a plate of grilled onions, jalapenos, and tomatoes they bring out with tortillas as an appetizer, and it's under 2 bucks. The shrimp cocktail which is in an unbelievable sauce with huge chunks of avocado mixed in, and their chile relleno are two of my fav's, as well as cheese enchiladas, guisada (spelling?), & SO much more. Of all current Chelino's locations, this is probably the only one I'd quasi-recommend. Yeah, it's the same greasy food, same free queso, same oddly foamy salsa, but this place hires well. The people here are friendly, quick, and seem to care about the joint. This place doesn't feel super clean and the food isn't at all healthy. Let's face it, that's not why you choose Chelino's though. You show up here because you want to get disgustingly full on cheese and chili covered versions of meat stuffed into tortillas. So yeah, I'll be back, not often. Just often enough to remember why I don't eat here monthly, even though they have a killer two for $20 deal. read more
