Recently moved to Ocala and searched for a salon that represented a hair product I love. Made appt online for a partial highlight and tried to add a haircut but the system wouldn't let me. Got a call that they would like to move my appt, but due to upcoming travel, I wasn't able to move the appt. They agreed to keep the original appt which I told them should include a haircut. Arrived for my appt and met Krysten. We discussed my need for partial highlight and hair cut. She gripped that she didn't have time for the haircut. I was a little miffed and she said, we will see what we can do. She proceeded to do my partial highlight but was taking super little strand amounts (I have thin hair) and had so much tin foil on the top of my head. I thought this was weird but it was still a partial highlight so maybe this was a new way to do highlights? In the rinse and shampoo, she went to grab something and then put it in my hair. I asked what it was and she said it was a glaze. I asked what a glaze was for and she gave some vague response that it helps keep the highlight. This is news to me... I have never had a glaze put in my hair and certainly never without advance discussion. She ended up cutting my hair and the time was getting pretty late. She asked if I wanted it blown dry and at this point we are 3 hours in. I said no thanks but would rather wrap up and go. She proceeded to spray this bottled labled "oil oil" into her hands and then she wiped it on the outside of some of my hair. She didn't rub it in, she didn't spray it on... I asked her what that was and she was vague on what it was for... it was such a small amount. As I was standing, krysten was acting weird, talking to me like I was a child. She started telling me that because my hair was so thick, she had to treat the partial like a full highlight. (note: the bottom half of my hair never saw the inside of a foil) This was never discussed upfront. I don't have thick hair and my thin hair is pretty flat. I walked over to the counter to pay and was pissed that not only was I getting charged for a full highlight but she also charged me $20 for the glaze and $20 for the "oil oil". I paid the bill as that was product used and left a tip for a total bill almost $400 - knowing that this cheating person and salon will never see my business again. Lessons for Chemistry Salon: - always communicate upfront about what you are going to do. You need to obtain agreement before proceeding. - Kysten, don't try to pad your bill by adding products that were not discussed upfront. In my 30+ years of getting a highlight, you get the lowest rating and shame on you! - Chemistry Salon, if you want REAL REVIEWS on your website: you need to enable people to leave honest feedback rather than having them go to an unsecure website to collect information that will be reviewed and decided whether worthy to post on website. I Was very apprehensive about choosing any salon or fair designer fter moving to this area from St Petersburg. After 4 months, the frightening look of myself in the mirror finally forced me to try to find someone new to cut my hair and CORRECTLY get rid of the gray and put back my natural blonde color. Add to this the fact that my type of fine blonde hair can be challenging to cut properly so as to not show cut lines and ridges. Anyway, my hair got absolutely too long so I had no choice but to roll the dice. That roll of the dice won me my new hair designer I made an appointment with Haley and let me say, I have found my new hair artist. She has a wonderfully warm personality but the most beautiful part was SHE KNOWS HER STUFF!!! I would recommend her highly! You won't go wrong. The salon is clean and comfortable. We booked an appointment way in advance of the start of school, my daughter wanted to do it close to start so we only had three days left till school. When I booked the appointment, I told them exactly what she wanted done. We showed up for the appointment and they were already upset for some thing. The stylist came out and said let's see what we have time for. I explained to them exactly what she wanted as I did on the phone when I booked it they said they don't have time for it. It seems they had overbooked their schedule, and we paid the price for it, even though we booked far in advance. I would not recommend them. Great salon for cut or color. Previously had blue color but I knew it was purple because of the remnants of red that remained. Ashlee listened to me and did a remarkable job on the color and cut. It is so good that my husband has been nagging me to get his color done. The second recolor I was encourage to use two shades of blue which turned out awesome! Found Chemistry Salon through Strands for Trans - then was delighted to find a Groupon. Everything was absolutely wonderful from scheduling to leaving the salon. Despite their busy schedules, they fit me in only a few days after calling. The entire time, it was obvious that everyone at the salon genuinely cared about me and my experience with them. Everyone was incredibly friendly and the atmosphere was fun, playful but still professional. I have no doubts of any of the stylists' abilities or expertise. I went in for a huge style change. I went in with shoulder length hair and left with a wonderful style somewhere between a pixie and an undercut (forgive me, I don't know much about hair). Jenny was amazing - she looked at my pictures and understood what I was going for. She helped me understand what would likely work for my hair and what wouldn't and what the upkeep/maintenance would be for the different styles before we even got started. The prices are wonderful (even disregarding the Groupon) especially when considering the quality. The salon can be a little difficult to find at first, as there weren't any noticeable signs that specifically said Chemistry Salon, but between the map on my phone and looking at the products/services displayed on the windows, I was able to figure it out and I'm sure you could too. The aesthetic of the salon isn't anything fancy but it was clean, pleasant, and efficient. There are beverages available as well, which I thought was a nice touch. Overall, Despite the hour drive it takes for me to get to the salon, I will be coming here for as long as I can. I can't imagine needing or wanting anything more in a stylist or salon. For an idea of pricing, I paid about 30$ for a Groupon that included a haircut with blowout, scalp cleanse and warming hair masque. Because of my huge style and length change, there was a small added charge of 15/16$. So I was in and out the door (not including tip) for about 45$, with a haircut, shampoo, scalp cleanse, hair masque and style. read more

Used a Groupon for a long hair trim. Doesn't sound complicated but I've had many hair stylists trim my hair uneven and not trim it the way I wanted. Krysten was very pleasant, professional, and did a very nice job. She even noticed the hair breakage I had and let me know why she thought it was breaking even though I use all kinds of breakage free conditioners and take hair, skin and nail vitamins. The only issue with this salon is there is no sign at all out front (or on the window) so I drove by it a couple of times thinking I had put the wrong address in my Waze. Will return and will try to get my husband to go there for haircuts. read more

The haircut I received (cost $53!) is uneven and the highlight left me with dark roots. The highlight was not done heavy enough, and I should of had my roots boosted with a toner. The stylist charged me for deep conditioner of Olaplex. A. I did not ask for that B. She should of asked if I wanted it and told me it would cost $20! I can buy Olaplex (which I do) and do my own treatment at home since I have a license. Also, it is supposed to be applied to damp towel dried hair, combed through, and left on for at least 10 min. I was at the bowl with wet hair, it was applied like reg. conditioner, not combed through and left on for maybe 5 minutes. Basically not treated right and was charged more than it costs me to buy it. I also can get about 4 treatments out of a bottle, and I pay $15 at CosmoProf. This was a total rip off! I am currently waiting for the manager to call me back but no call so far. read more

First time in Ocala and desperately needed hair cut and roots colored. Found a Groupon, held my breath and made appt, hoping for the best. (5 yrs ago in FL, I went for a cut before neck surgery, I ended up with a "bubble" cut.). Ashlee did a fantastic job! She asked questions throughout the cut to make sure she was giving me the cut I wanted, and she did! I love it The reason I didn't give it a 5* was a business deal, not Ashlee's. We had a hard time finding the salon. In a strip mall of businesses. Drove past it twice (and around the area thinking our phones were wonky), because there's no name on the business. 3rd time, on the map, I saw another business' name, so knew it was right area. I'd seen product in the windows, but didn't know if it was a salon or supply house. Once inside, I was greeted warmly as soon as I walked in the door, and given a beverage. So until Thursday I was a huge fan of the salon and Ashlee, I went in to get a perm and had to sign a waiver which should've told me something but she's always done great so I didn't think anything of it. When she took the rods out of my hair, she had to rinse my hair twice because it was sticky feeling. When I was back in her chair, she told me she had to straighten my hair to trim it but would recurl it, I honestly Ashlee was trying to hide the fact that my hair was a mess. Long story short, my hair has fallen out in clumps, and I had to cut most of it off today. I am so disappointed, I wish Ashlee would've just said oops I messed up let me fix it but I feel like she knowingly let me leave the salon in hopes I wouldn't be mad. My mother came here a couple times & told me to give this place I try. Plus they had a promo 250$ for a Brazilian blow out & color. Which is exactly what I wanted. I called and scheduled a consult. I asked if I'd still get the promo & the person said yes. Great! Went to my consult. Took awhile but met with the stylist. Brittany. She was nice. I told her what I wanted. She said she'd have to ask about pricing since I wanted a Baylage which is more. Came back said it'd be 270. I agreed & made my appoint. The day came. It was set for 4pm because I needed childcare. I had no idea it was gonna take 5 hours but that's the price of beauty right? She was really nice & friendly. Although when commenting on not knowing its be this long she did make a comment about how she was annoyed at the time I chose to do it. Anyway It wasn't til the end where I saw my hair. Loved the haircut. My color? No. I honestly hated it. I wanted caramel but I guess my hair took too quickly to the bleach & it looked Burt orange - blonde. It was passed 9 I didn't want to be rude but said it wasn't the color I wanted. She got upset saying I'd have to wait 2 weeks because of the Brazilian blowout to fix it. Ok. Went to pay never saw her again. The manager rescheduled me, said he'd give me a free deep condition charged me 320 annoyed. I paid & left. Fastforward to my redo. She seemed nicer. Got the color somewhat in the right direction so I just accepted it. After washing my hair she asked if I wanted her to dry it. Uh yea? She blew it out. & gave me a 45$ bill. When asking why. 20$ for deep condition 25$ for my hair to be blown out. I told them the deep condition was free from the manager bc of the mess up. They took it off but still charged 25$. Annoyed again I paid & left. While speaking to mother about them actually charging me to blow my hair out... (Who leaves with wet hair?!) she called them & they said it was because the girl was "new". & refunded me my money. I love the Brazilian blowout. If I went again id probably pick someone else. BEST PERM EVER....I'm a NYC girl...used to the best salons for my hair. When I moved down here three years ago, I was hard-pressed to find someone who could do a decent haircut, let alone a perm. (And I've tried many!) I came across Chemistry and decided to give them a try. I figured that with the name, they must know hair processing. Previous perms fell out after only a few weeks, and I couldn't figure out why. I met with Loretta and we discussed everything from what I shampooed with to what medicines I took. She was able to look up my medications and find a perm that would work with my hair. And she rolled the hair to fit the style I wanted...not the standard roll-up. Let me tell you...IT'S THE BEST PERM EVER! Now....don't steal her...I want to be able to get an appointment in the future....She's THAT GOOD! read more
