Couldn't believe the drop in quality of this food. We used to be big fans, but....... Had the Orange Chicken and Kung Pao Chicken and had VERY similar problems as recent reviewers Daniella S. , Bola G. , and A.H. have reported. My wife had the Orange Chicken which she said was dry, tasteless, and very chewy and tough. She became sick within 10 minutes of eating it and for 24 hours following (vomiting, nausea, and diarreah). I had the Kung Pao Chicken. The chicken meat looked gross. (unidentifiable pieces and tasted horrible). Veggies and sauce were okay. After seeing my wife's reaction, I too stopped eating and bagged up both whole meals and threw them away. $31.00 wasted including tip to delivery driver. Order taker and delivery person were nice, but I think we will not repeat this mistake again...should have read the previously mentioned reviews FIRST. read more

I love this place. The service is always quick and the staff is always friendly. I've ordered here many times and it is always consistent. They even wrap the boxes is plastic to prevent leakage in the bag. Just an extra step that nobody else does at to go restaurants. Keep up the good work! read more

It was made with like dough almost a big hush puppy. no bean sprouts in it and then they poured like a can of Dinty Moor beef stew. and the chow mein noodles was nothing but thick spaghetti. Food service is awesome, food taste great, but they are getting pricey just like everyone else, but worth it

We have been going to Chen Wok for the last 15 years. I can honestly say the food is still good, but the customer service and cost are both not as good anymore. The staff seem short with you and don't even smile or engage. Also, the prices have really floored us lately. We ordered 2 lo mein, 1 Mongolian beef, and 2 orders of crab rangoons. The amount (before taxes or tip) came out to a whopping 70 dollars! I understand the economy is bad and what not, but I think until this place can come back down to reasonable prices for things, we won't be back unfortunately. read more

If you're gonna order for delivery, make sure it's more than 2 hours before closing so when they show up with part of your order missing you won't be told "sorry, we're not delivering any more tonight"... really!? I paid for food for delivery, didn't get all of it, but you won't bring me what's missing??? No, I don't want to come pick it up... that's why I ordered "delivery". I've lived in Surprise for quite some time now and this place has been around since the beginning! It's a family owned place that's neighborhood friendly. The system they have is very old fashioned. Nice friendly staff. The food itself is decent. Whenever I'm in the mood for authentic Chinese food, this is the place go. They serve in good amount of portions. I like their lunch special where meals at discount price. Their food is a bit too oily but every Chinese place is like that. My favorite from them is the orange chicken and the house friend rice. The description says dine in so we decide to give this place a try. First impression is it is a take out place with a few tables to basically wait for your take out food. We ordered the combination plate which was confusing because you need to pick two of the main items from the regular menu items. It came on a tray with styrofoam plates and plastic forks and food was in a take out box. Sorry but that's not dine in! Two combo plates and two pepsi came to 32.00 dollars and some change. The pepsi was served in a unopened can. The food was terrible! Mostly noodles with little sauce filled the container which was supposed to be lowmein and the mongollian beef was mostly green & white onions with little meat. The taste was all the same over the whole meal, just soy sauce. Wasted 32.00 dollars totally! Dont waste your time. Wont eat there again for sure. read more

2 times have had bad experience with this restaurant We always order chicken fried rice which extra egg When we asked where is the extra egg owner scolded me that when I want extra egg I have to give dollar amount of egg Now we order again and have no chicken in the rice and no extra egg again even though they charged me for it Owner is very rude when you try and talk about making it right like I am stealing from him. This place is unbelievable, we ordered house chow mein only to get noodles that are made for people with no teeth. Upon going back we were told "we already made the noodles, if we get you more they will be the same". You cant make more? This place used to be really good. Ordered lunch yesterday for a friend and I (2 orange chicken and 2 chicken lo mein) I'm pretty sure the "chicken" in the lo mein was pork and it was just awful. The orange chicken was deep fried, barely chewable and had almost no sauce on it and the lo mein was slimy and just overall really really not good. I'm really disappointed and I really don't like leaving negative reviews but this place isn't what it used to be, we actually want to go as far as saying we want our money back because we couldn't take more than 2 bites of either plate. Unbelievable. I have eaten here for years and this will probably be my last. My order for pickup was supposed to be ready at 6:15. Arrived at 6:17 and 2 of the girls working there were arguing. The girl at the counter with absolutely no customer service asked for my number and took my payment. She told me to sit and wait. While waiting for my food another customer returned with an opened food container. Girl at counter said yeah sorry about that. And apparently that was that. I wait 15 minutes and kindly ask how much longer. She rudely said your food is sitting right here. At this point, why I am I having to tell you my food is ready behind the counter without saying anything to me. Girl was beyond rude and confrontational. I understand understaffed but it does NOT excuse treating your customers with good customer service. I asked for the manager. The manager came out and apologized and checked the temperature of my food. He said she was new and they were busy. Regardless of being busy you should still be treating your customers with customer service. Unfortunately, that girl will never make it past fast food, doesn't now how to treat people and now they have lost a long time customer. Customers are your business and they should always come first. Awful . The owner or some guy there was sleeping . The food was awful. The kung poa shrimp was drenched in onions s as sauce and barely any shrimp . The loMein noodles were awful . I've been about 3 more times since my first visit. Chicken has been over cooked last 3 times to where it's hard and very chewy. Teriyaki and Orange sauces have good flavor. But for a meal that costs $50 for the family the chicken shouldn't be noticeable overcooked like it is. This will be the last trip there I think. Shame. read more

Oh man....where do I even begin? I'll start by saying this is horribly disgusting food! The teriyaki chicken was awful! It was leftover chicken from the day before, FOR SURE! Everyone knows that taste chicken gets when it's a day or two old. This chicken was tough, dry, and definitely was NOT fresh! Same thing with their white rice! It was dry and the texture and taste led me to believe it was also old! The Wor Wonton Soup wasn't too bad, but it lacked flavor, and again, the chicken in it was horrible! They advertise shrimp in it, and there was one little shrimp. We also ordered some vegetable chicken and same thing on the chicken. Just don't waste your money. This place is just bad. We ordered large szechuan beef w/ pork fried rice, large orange chicken w/ pork fried rice and a small beef w/ broccoli w/ pork fried rice. Also grabbed some crab puffs. This still came out to over $50. The beef in my szechuan didn't taste like beef and was very mushy. The beef in the beef w/ broccoli tasted like bad pork for some reason. The Crab puffs were less than average. The orange chicken was mostly breading and was oddly salty. There isn't a single part of our meal we enjoyed or could possibly recommend. I live less than a mile from the location and it still took over and hour to deliver and I was told it would be less than 45 minutes. Not the best, ordered a large beef dish and only got 5/6 pieces of beef and an entire carton of raw vegetables. The cream cheese Rangoon's were pretty good. Ordered tofu, sweet and sour chicken and egg rolls as well as house lo mein.. I think it was the oil because everything sort of tasted rancid and was seriously greasy. Also the shrimp in the house lo mein didn't smell very good so I picked it out.. still the greasy noodles didn't sit well with me or my friend. OMG! This was such an amazing turn around experience that was had here. I have ordered before from this Chen & Wok and didn't think it was to great. Can't believe how much this changed my mind! Total price: $14 Order: Spicy crispy pork, Chow mein, and Crab puffs. Spicy crispy: So fantastic! Amazing flavor and the perfect amount of heat. The only thing was the meat was more chewy than crunchy. Chow mein: Wow looks can be deceiving! The noodles didn't look that great but the taste was definitely there. It had like a soy sauce and light teriyaki taste with some possible oil. Crab puffs: These were really flavorful but didn't taste like a Chinese food crab puff. In addition, there wasn't really much crab on the inside. However, it was stuffed way more than most places and you got 6 for only $4. That's a great price! The breaking was perfectly crisp! The orange beef is so covered with gross goopy sauce that you can't even taste beef. Vote with your dollars and eat elsewhere. I am sad to write this review... As I used to LOVE this place. However as of late, it's been hit and miss. More miss than hit. (Insert sad face here!) The prices have gone up, serving size has gone down. I'm all about understanding the economy and what not... However this was the best part of eating here. I've learned that it's cheaper to order my food ala carte at lunch than as their "special lunch combo". For example; Lunch menu - white rice, sweet sour chicken is $5 (roughly). However if you want the house fried rice (it's so yummy and filling!) it will cost you $4 more! What??!! That's right, almost the cost of the whole meal. So now it's $9 for the "lunch special". (It used to be $1.75 up-charge.) The second to last time I ate there after ordering my lunch (to go) with the upgrade and adding in fried won-tons it came to $14.79. Twice the price as a week before! No joke, it was!!!! First time ever I have never tipped them. Why? what they told me over the phone and then charged me were 2 different prices! The next time I went, I ordered ala carte and it was the same price but with WAY more food. Bottom line - order containers at lunch if you want the rice upgrade. The food is good, which is the only reason I gave them 2 stars. My stars explained: (1) location, ease of parking, lights, (2) how clean and organized they are, restrooms etc..
