I have had 2 negative experiences in the last two weeks. My first experience last week was a take out order. I ordered 3 tacos. They said 10 minutes. I was there in 5 minutes so I expected to wait a few, understood. I WAITED 30 MORE MINUTES FOR A TAKE OUT ORDER THAT WAS CALLED IN AHEAD OF TIME! The lady in front of me ordered too and had to be waiting longer then me. Only she finally had to leave to get her kids at the bus stop so she asked for a refund (almost $50 in food). It took them another 10 minutes to do that. I felt so bad for her. They did however finish her food a second before she walked out the door and gave it to her for free. 2nd take out experience. I learned my lesson. I came in 25 minutes instead of 10 as was said on the phone. I got there. Order is wrong even after I repeated it twice on the phone. I had to repeat it twice again when i got there. I had to wait another few minutes so they could fix my order. I ordered 6 burritos and not one of them was labeled. I had to open, unwrap and handle other peoples food to identify the order. One more thing I wanted to point out. It was something I noticed on my trip 1 visit but quickly dismissed. On trip 1, this place had a lunch crowd going. People came in, ordered and were served prior to me and the other lady who was waiting (we both called ahead). All people served prior to us were Hispanic. The other lady and myself- white. I would not have believed it had I not heard of the other negative reviews that spoke about the workers speaking ill of "gringos". So yes, they have lost my business. read more

When they first opened everything was good. Then I started doing carry outs and the orders were always wrong. Most times when ordering over the phone the order taker spoke very little English. While I understand a Mexican restaurant wants to hire Mexican workers. But really, your business is in a non-Spanish speaking neighborhood. Hire multilingual help. I have been here twice, and perhaps I am unfairly comparing this to my favorite taquerias if Chicago, but the food at Chenchos is just okay. Not bad, not good, just okay. My tortillas were greasy this last time. The frijoles has the taste and texture of canned beans. Salsa verde had no flavour at all. Finally, some seriously good tacos for Homer Glen. I have only ordered the steak tacos (corn tortilla, everything + cilantro) because they are so damn good. The carrots on the side are the bomb, and the hot sauce super tasty. Horchata is good too. Skip the salsa and chips, the salsa tastes like straight up tomato paste. The best Mexican food sure comes from the little places....prices are cheap and if you eat there you are surrounded by a bright color atmosphere. It is just a typical little Mexican place but they really decorated it to look nicer. Had their food a few times...each time no complaints. Their Mexican nachos are a perfect way to start your dinner. I think we were fighting over them! Tacos are always a great choice and I heard nothing but great things about how they cook their steak (we ordered steak fajitas). And their chile rellenos are as authentic as it gets. I typically enjoy going to Chenchos, but today I had a horrible experience. I understand that most restaurants want to close at their posted time, but today (Saturday night) I arrived at Chenchos at 11:28PM (closing time is posted midnight) sat down, was prepared to place an order, and the server told me that they were accepting Togo orders ONLY. I asked why, and she said that that's what they do. First time I'm hearing this, considering its not posted on their hours of operation at the front door nor anywhere on their menu. If I walked in at 11:50PM I would understand that I'm a little late and a Togo order is the only option, but why would a server turn away guest and loose a potential tip just so they could close down the restaurant and leave by 12:05?!? Take a look at the "OPEN" sign still blinking onto Bell Road time stamped at 11:44PM. Found it funny that a table of 3 just received their food as I walked in to The restaurant as well...looks like I missed sitting by a table and eating by 5 whole minutes...Chenchos, you should specify what time your restaurant closes and what time you start accepting togo orders only...WONT BE COMING BACK! read more

As far as burrito joints go, this place is great. Friendly service, CLEAN, nice decor and families come to dine in. Its a small place but not crowded with tables. The food comes nice and hot and not too fast which seems to be made to order. The tacos are excellent, no matter what meat you choose get them with onion and cilantro only. Love them this way! I have had the menudo twice and must say I have had better. It was just too greasy for me and didn't finish it both times. I went in looking for a take-out burrito but was surprised to see a large authentic Mexican menu and I decided to eat in. I was greeted by a friendly waitress who told me to take any seat and went to grab me some chips and salsa. They had great green salsa and the chips were fresh and hot. I ordered the Bistec con queso fundido and wasn't disappointed. Each piece of marinated skirt steak was as tender as the last and the vegetables were perfectly cooked. There were also a steady stream of customers grabbing take-out, mostly burritos, so I'm sure my initial selection would have been just as good as what I ordered. I have been going to this restaurant for a few years and I liked it but then something happened recently. I was there last week and when I returned home I noticed the burrito has gotten smaller, you have to pay extra for the extra sauce and the sauce cups are not even full!!! The cashier told me the restaurant is under new ownership and new rules but with the expensive prices already the portions should be more generous and the sauce should be free. The carryout menu i have at home lists the price at $4.95 each. When picking up my order, I learned they charged $6.50 each. I asked for a new carryout menu and was told they didn't have any on hand. I went back home and checked their menu on their internet site and the menu indicated the price was $4.95. I called back and spoke to the manager "Neo". He said he raised the prices a month ago. Sorry that I need to write this, but Chenchos Burrito has lost our business completely. We have noticed the the prices are simply not worth the quality of food, and certainly not worth the level of service. Our most recent visit has simply proved that we will not dine here again. And it's unfortunate since the quality when they first opened was much, much better. The tortillas on our steak tacos were sooo over the top greasy, we ended heating our own tortillas. The service, in our opinion, is below par. We tried phoning in an order, and they simply did not answer. I even dialed from my car, and watched the staff standing at the counter as they opted to not answer for whatever reason. When I mentioned it at the counter, they wouldn't even acknowledge me with a response. The kicker, they only had two tables with people dining in.
