Excellent food and service!!! My friends and I came here after a patriots game and we loved it.

Ordered a lunch plate and the chicken fingers were hard, the coating was flavorless, tasted like they were reheated.

We have thoroughly enjoyed coming here for the past few years. This has been our go to Chinese restaurant since we moved to the area and I can't speak any higher of their food; it's delicious! This review is strictly about service that we received today (Tuesday). We typically come here during the weekend however my girlfriend and I are both on vacation this week and really wanted to go here because the lunch buffet always hits the spot. I have never seen such a difference in service in all my life. We saw our waitress, May, a grand total of 3 times during our time there including being seated and getting the check. Normally she is awesome and very attentive to her patrons. Today, I can only guess that there were more pressing matters than checking in with her customers because I had to go up to the bar to request a refill for our waters. I'd say it was to attend to other customers but we were there only people eating in there at the time. The female bartender that was on today was unbelievably rude to me. The phone conversation that she was having on her cell phone seemed too important to pause to speak to me. I asked for the water and she continued to talk on the phone, seemingly ignoring me completely. When she realized I wasn't leaving she curtly said "I will send your waitress over." and immediately went back to her cell phone conversation. I would've just been better off getting the pitcher of water and pouring the refills myself; it would've saved me a ton of aggravation. Today taught me that the customer comes first here only on weekends. So that will be the only time that we go there from now on. read more

Being new to Mansfield, my fiancé and I quickly sought out a go-to Chinese restaurant. We first stumbled upon Cheng-Du while walking around the center of town, and went in for a drink and a bite to eat at the bar. The bartender waited on us immediately, and she quickly got us a scorpion bowl which was delicious. For food we ordered the peking ravioli and white pork fried rice- both were flavorful and fresh, and were fast to arrive. Since this first visit we have returned many times, as well as ordered takeout, and our experience has not changed. We will continue to visit Cheng-Du and recommend it as the best Chinese food that we have found in Mansfield so far. read more

Used to be a great place to eat, but lately it's gone down hill. I mean who makes General GAOs chicken with the bone in.

Ordered an entree for take out. Got home to find that there was no rice. Called to ask if I could come pick up my rice, and I was told I'd have to pay for it, and that I should have asked if I'd wanted rice. Very brusque and not understanding. I'm not new to ordering takeout Chinese...but never had this happen before, and definitely not with a 15$ entree that's half sauce. Perhaps I'll use a spoon. Did get a fortune cookie....but the message just added insult to injury. I'm done with this place. read more

I consider Cheng Du the best Chinese restaurant not only in the area, but it can also compete and beat many others even in Boston China Town. Awesome Crab Rangoons, Yu Shiang anything, Crispy Salted Jumbo Shrimp, Kung Pao Chicken, General Gaos Chicken. I haven't found anything I don't like at Cheng -Du and that has been my opinion for the last 25 years. The service is always friendly and profesional. They have great Mai Tais and Scorpions. We have ordered from Cheng Du for years and have never had an issue. Last Friday I had the worst experience I have EVER had with a restaurant. I had put in an online order at 5pm. The guaranteed delivery time was set for 5:45pm. I waited until 6:26PM to call the restaurant and ask where my delivery was. The person who answered the phone said it was on its way and it should be there within 15-20 mins. I called again at 7:24PM, since I had not gotten my order. Once again, the person told me it was on its way and that it would be there in another 15-20 mins. I called again at 7:44PM and told them to cancel my order because I did not want to wait any longer. I was told ok, no problem by the person who answered the phone. I get a call back from the restaurant manager at 7:50PM saying the reason why I hadn't gotten my delivery was because there was no address listed on the order (this was not told to me when I called the first time asking where my order was). I explained to her that on their website to proceed to the next screen you must enter an address. I then told her that I did not want my order any longer and to refund the money back to my credit card. She said she would not and hung up on me. I called back again and, once again, I was told she would not refund me my money and she hung up on me for a second time. My husband called the restaurant back at 7:53PM and asked to speak with the manager. He explained that he would like to resolve this situation and the manager verbally told him that she would refund the credit card when the restaurant closed because it had been a busy day. A week later, I have the refund back on my card and Cheng Du has lost a customer forever. I hope no one else has to experience the horrendous customer service that I experienced. read more

Great gluten free options. I don't mind paying the comparatively high price because of this. But now they changed their delivery radius and no longer deliver. If I'm already paying $70 for $35 worth of food, you can deliver 5 miles away (a 12 minute drive). I hope they get their act together. read more

Stay away. Ordered three items online. Came in to pick up after placing an online order and they insisted I ordered three orders of each item. Wouldn't even discuss the issue and lots of attitude. Too bad, as I had been a regular. Definitely won't be back. read more

Great service on NYE! We live a little further away so we couldn't wait for them to call us to pick up our order. When we got there we still had a bit of a wait but it was clear they prioritized our order since we were waiting. They got everything right and the food was fresh and hot. It was the best Chinese food we've had in a long time and our guests enjoyed it as well. It is on the expensive side but the portions are huge and we got multiple meals out of it so the cost was justified. read more

I have always enjoyed Cheng Du in the past, a bit pricey but normally well worth it... NOT TODAY!! I ordered takeout and drove 30 mins to pick up: their spicy dbl cooked pork, used to be my favorite dish, but today there were no black mushrooms and the pork was so overcooked it was like jerky. Spring rolls were not cooked, literally- they were inedible. My son's scallion pancakes seemed to have been cooked hours ago and reheated. Went here today for the first time. They have a wide variety of lunch specials that were delicious and the food came out hot. The waitress was so friendly and also gave us some spicy soy sauce with our food and an additional side to go. Atmosphere was nice and food presentation was super pretty. Service - need more staff. One waiter serving the entire restaurant, he tried his best but how can one person serve 10+ tables? Food - sub par, ordered three dishes. First dish brought out and finished before the second two dishes were brought to the table. Pu Pu Platter was light on food, rice was good, chicken dish had stale noodles Drinks - good but expensive and took to long to come to table. For Celiac, this is not a safe restaurant. Got food here for the first time last night - while my kids enjoyed the food, my husband who has celiac was sick all night. We carefully selected "GF" options, and kept the one thing with Gluten far away from the five containers that were "GF". There was some cross contamination somewhere, he has not been this sick from restaurant food in a very long time - we are very careful. He was excited to find a Chinese option locally. Cross it off the list. Had the whole 10 hour reaction - up all night. GF and celiac safe I guess are different standards at this restaurant. This used to be our to go for Chinese food WAS best around. Last several times order has arrived with incorrected items. we do chinese as a good family sit down (all teens/adults) so when some are wrong it hurts family. This last time and prior spent $150+ and two dinner orders were incorrect they said they would replace but within minute a very very angry women called me back and said she refused to replace for me and slammed phone down on me ... Sometimes you just gotta have some crab rangoon! It's creamy, it's fake, but goddammit, it's sinfully delicious! The rest of the food at Cheng-du is on point. And when I say on point, I mean it! The Pad Thai here is great. However, the manager/owner was very confrontational with me when a delivery order I had was incorrect. We did not receive an item, and I called telling them this, and rather than accommodating me, the person I spoke to told me I did not order what I claimed(I always order the same, Pad Thai, Calamari), and basically implied I was a liar. It is mind boggling how a person in this industry and just be so blatantly aggressive and confrontational with a regular customer. When I went to pick up the food they forgot(as the delivery driver would take an hour to get to me this lady told me), she then proceeding to argue with me in front of the customers! Could not believe it. Although they have good food, their inability to deal with problems that may pop up(which I am sure can be very common in the industry) has caused me to not patronize them any longer. read more

We were on vacation and I wanted Chinese buffet. The food was gross. However, My boyfriend liked it and had at least two plates of food but then got violently ill several hours after he ate. We both speculate the buffet was the cause. I had a few bites of crab Rangoon (not bad) but the fried rice, chicken wings, egg rolls, sesame chicken, chicken fingers, lo mein and a couple other mystery dishes were not good. I asked for a dish off the menu. It was just okay. The pad Thai was completely covered with crushed peanuts? Anyway, if you're looking for sub par Chinese, this is your place! read more

The Chinese food is delicious, probably the best in the area; you can pretty much order anything at Cheng-Du and you will enjoy a fabulous meal. Unfortunately, the service is mediocre at best and leaves much to be desired. While we were seated immediately (because we had reservations), our party of 6 was not acknowledged by a waiter for 15 minutes, and then after drinks were ordered, we were not re-acknowledged to give our dinner order for another 15 minutes. The drinks themselves came AFTER appetizers were served - maybe 25 minutes later! The entrée portion came out in a very strange and staggered way, so that not everyone was able to eat at the same time (we each encouraged one another not to wait because we had no idea how much longer we would have to wait for the other entrees). Drink refills had to be begged for. The worst part was that the waiter was short, rushed and stingy with the smiles. I would return to Cheng Du, but not with a large party. They didn't seem to be able to handle a table of 6. I also got the sense this was a "townie" place and the staff was doting on the regulars, which is charming if you are one of the said regulars, but underwhelming when you are not. Beware: the drinks are served in festive and funny glasses, but they are very small, and you are getting very little actual drink. read more

A solid choice for Chinese and take out food. My personal favorite is the Hot and Sour Soup - I use to have it in New York and could never find it prepared the same way here in Massachusetts - one place I went to insulted the soup by using Tabasco Sauce that was floating on the top - However, Cheng-Du reunited me with the soup that I use to love in New York. It is thick, loaded with flavor, and a style that is authentic to Hot and Sour Soup. The food is consistently good quality and they have a robust take out business. The food is not greasy and always served hot and with generous portions. The Crab Ragoon is not bad - but not the best in town (Quans has that locked). The selections are good and they are always adaptable to include or substitute ingredients if you ask. The bar is next to the restaurant seating area - but is blocked off by a wall and contains the noise that you would normally here. The restaurant maintains a classy look to it with linens and tableware - and one of the few places with cloth napkins. Sonny is the owner and is often there and has been a staple in the community and not shy to share about his family and children. If you are not happy with something - he is the first to make it right. Very attentive and wants people to enjoy the food and the experience while there. The menu has not changed much over the years and does not offer lighter appetizer or food options - nor experiments much with seasonal items or new menu features. I was 3 hours from home on a work trip and being celiac, I was overjoyed to learn there was a Chinese restaurant that I could order gluten free! Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed it to be very elegant and clean. I stood at the counter for a few minutes while the hostess was helping another customer. After helping the customer, I waited for her to acknowledge me. Five minutes passed and I felt stupid standing around, so I pursued her, asking if I just seat myself at the bar. She just looked at me and didn't respond, making things even more awkward. So, I motioned at a spot at the bar that looked to be open, but had a phone and notepad next to it, and asked the bartender if it was a spot or not. He advised it was not and asked that I wait until a spot opens. I step back to the hostess counter looking at the menu. More time passed and I decided I would order take out instead. I started to ask the hostess about ordering when a bar patron passing by stated that she was leaving and that I could sit in her spot...so I proceeded to the bar. At this point and time, I can feel that the bartender is annoyed by my sitting down. He tells me to wait so that he can clean the spot and after doing so he walks away. It's several minutes before he acknowledges me again asking what I would like to drink. Being that it's my first visit to this establishment, I didn't know what they offered. The bar is an island without upper shelves, all alcohol is stored below the bar out of sight. I stated that I wasn't sure and asked what they had. Again, annoyingly he hands me their drink menu and while reviewing it, a nice lady next to me begins suggesting drinks they are known for, realizing that I am new to Cheng Du. We determined that the drink menu isn't gluten free and that I'll need to order something different, so I ordered Tito's. Now I had never been to this place, so I had no idea that a cloth napkin would be spread before me as a placemat and not a napkin for use. I proceed to take the napkin he laid before me and placed it on my lap. He grabs another napkin and places it before me again. This time I realized I wasn't supposed to take the napkin and to make light of the situation I make fun of myself about not being aware of what he was doing to which he acknowledged that he knew I didn't know. He serves my drink and walks away. After a while he comes back over for my order. I question one of the plate options asking if I can substitute with the gluten free options. He worked with me on this, however, he didn't seem too impressed by having to. A little while later the food comes out and I'm so happy to dig in, everything was delicious, I was so excited! In an attempt to warm the bartender up to me, I tried making small talk. He humored me, but his tone and body language was still that of being annoyed. I was surprised that I couldn't eat very much, so I waited for my leftovers to be boxed up. He handed me the check and I gave him my bank debit card. The bill came to $65+change and I tipped him $15 and left both the merchant and customer copy on the bar. A few days later I checked my bank account and noticed that I was charged $115+change!!! I was going to dispute the charge with my bank; however, I didn't have proof as I did not take my copy of the receipt. Expensive lesson learned here, now I will ALWAYS take that copy! Yes, I could contact him and inquire about the charge in hopes that he would make things right, however, after our interaction I knew that I would just be wasting my time. Without proof it's his receipt against my word. I figured out that the hostess is the bartender's daughter because she called him "Dad" and like father - like daughter, I don't think either of them know what customer service is or how to smile. Definitely not the most inviting staff! So, I hope he enjoyed what ended up being a $50 dollar tip! He certainly succeeded if his intention was to make sure I never return! read more

Went for family day a couple weeks ago, we went because one of the kids is Gluten Free and they have many GF options. I got the buffet and it had a nice variety and was warm without being dried out and overheated. While I found the food good I was way underwhelmed by the staff, never even asked us if we wanted something to drink, never came to see how we were doing, and just pretty much rude. I would go again, but I won't be rushing back there anytime soon. read more

Excellent Chinese restaurant, not the greasy low quality version. They do charge more but the quality of their food is superior to the other restaurants. Their Crab Rangoons are to die for, the best ever. I have been to Chinatown in San Fransciso and those restaurants do not hold a candle to Cheng Du's rangoons. Try the Jumbo Crispy Shrimp, spicy and yummy and their chicken fried rice (white) is tasty. They make the fried rice with out the soy sauce but use a broth! read more

I was pretty sad about this place. All the reviews I've seen here, and the ones I've gotten in person, had built Cheng Du up to be some mecca of good Chinese in Mansfield. Well, it's not. I've had authentic Chinatown Chinese and I've had fatty Americanized Chinese, and what I got here wasn't really either. The apps were what you'd usually get from a Chinese restaurant in this area, and the entrees were bland. My boyfriend got the Crispy Sesame Beef, which wasn't crispy and tasted more like the vegetables the dish was stuffed with (cheap much?) than anything sesame; I got the Beef Chow Fun, which I first had at a hole in the wall in Boston's Chinatown and adored...and it was similar to his dish. Not flavorful at all, tasting more like the bamboo shoots that were in it than any other chow fun I've had. The bartender was very sweet, and had an almost dapper 1940s style demeanor; I'd go back just to get drinks and apps before I'd go back to try the food. I can't give any kind of a review of the Szechuan style; it may be as good as people are saying, but I don't like spicy food so I can't speak to that. read more

We've been coming to Cheng Du for years and have had generally positive experiences, but tonight's visit ensured we won't go back. Family of four, Sunday night, no crowd, should be a slam dunk. When the waiter came over, he asks if we're ready to order our meals - no drink orders for us tonight. We ordered an appetizer, two soups, four dinners and two rice dishes. About 30 minutes later, he brings out the appetizer and the soups. So far, so good. Twenty minutes later, the kids' dishes and the fried rice come out. My wife and I get the kids set, thinking ours will be right out. But the waiter doesn't come back. He doesnt even come by for another 15 minutes. Finally, I was able to wave him over and asked if we could get the other two meals and the white rice packaged to-go. He checked his sheet and says he doesn't have the other stuff written down. Great. He packaged up the kids' leftovers (our soon-to-be reheated dinner) and drops off the bill. $67 for half of what we ordered! Sure, the food is good, but not $67 for an appetizer, two soups, two meals and fried rice. At least if we came home and ordered delivery, we would have gotten all out food. Based on tonight's service, we will not be going into Cheng Du again. And with the prices, we'll certainly not be ordering take-out for a long while, either. read more
