I'm writing this review as I'm still chewing this gross a** food. House fried rice: Shrimp tasted like a sponge, pork tasted old AF, chicken looked very white and resembled cow intestines. General Tsao's chicken: not a crunchy breading, mild tasted like NOTHING!!! Parts of the chicken tasted like old wings meat or jerky meat. Haven't been eating out much due to this covid stuff. But I just really wanted Chinese food for lunch. When I go to a Chinese restaurant, I always have the hot and sour soup and their lo mein to determine whether or not I like them. When I arrived they have a table set up at the front door so you don't even have to walk into the restaurant. The guy that took my order was very polite and friendly. Food was out in less than 10 mins. At least four people picked up food while I was waiting so it's good to see they were busy right at opening. Soup was very good. Had shrimp and pork in it. It had that sour that I love. You'll be amazed how many places make their hot and sour, and it's not sour. Lo mein was good but just ok. I would go back and try other things. read more

We got Chen's and the food was good. We got a huge order beef and broccoli orange chicken sweet and sour pork and two egg foo young's. I didn't take any pictures because we were too busy eating it all. The only thing we didn't receive was the sauce for the orange chicken. To whom it may concern: This establishment is hands down, my favorite Chinese restaurant I have ever been too. As soon as I I walked through the front doors, I was immediately greeted with warming hospitality by the staff. The aroma of the Chinese food surrounded my sense and immediately, I felt the urge to eat. The owner and staff are incredibly friendly. Chen's is a small strip-mall restaurant in the Augusta Ranch community of Mesa. It differs from a lot of other Chinese restaurants in that they have avoided the heavy décor usually associated with such places and instead opted for a bright, casual look. They have a very diverse menu and are set up to serve beer and wine to their dine-in customers. I've traveled in China filming TV shows with a well-known Chinese cooking personality and one of the most important things I learned is that the term "Chinese food" is no more accurate than saying "United States food" ... there are countless regional and local styles of food preparation and presentation in China. To me what defines if I like a Chinese restaurant is no different than the standards I use to rate any other type of restaurant. One of those standards is service, and at Chen's it is absolutely first-rate. As soon as you enter you are the focus of their attention and they are committed to making you feel welcome and well taken care of. Another standard I look for is value, and here again they meet that expectation with huge portions at surprisingly low prices. In China a host is considered to have failed if their guests go away hungry. We went away with enough leftovers to last a week. But it would all fall apart of the food itself wasn't high quality and here Chen's far exceeded my expectations. You can't fake freshness or get away with substituting low-quality ingredients and they don't even try. This ranks as some of the best Americanized Chinese food I've had in any restaurant. It all added up to this place being one that I recommend and that will now be one of my favorite go-to places for Chinese style food in the Phoenix metro area. read more

I am giving five stars for flavor! You can distinguish between Chen's and the nearby Chinese restaurants by their fried rice alone - color, flavor, and all the fixings (like bean sprouts). I only order from this restaurant as take-out so I can't speak to in-restaurant service; however their phone and front of store service is all you could need. The floor not vacuumed was gross. Being served in to go soup containers and paper plates is weird. Food is good just a little salty. Employees just lounging at random tables is unprofessional. We are very picky when it comes to hot and sour soup and their hot and sour soup was top notch. The food was piping hot with so much flavor and quality meat. If I could give this place zero stars, I would went there today was served a warm beer. Our food was brought to us in to go containers. We were dining in and they brought us paper plates and a spoon. No fork we ordered soup they didn't bring any bowls. The service was poor. The place was filthy.
