Good spot in Mekong Plaza. Was sat right away and ordered the spicy wontons, Xiao Long Bao, and Chicken Sheng Jian Bao. The spicy is mild overall with a light chili spice on initial bite. It fades, so the dipping sauce was nice to have with it. The Xiao Long Bao were the winners of thee meal and would be why I go back. Easy to eat and tasty. I only wish the soup inside was a bit hotter. The Chicken Sheng Jian Bao was good, but the breading a little thicker than I personally like. This felt more like a dessert with the sesame bottom. Good taste, just heavy. Felt like we were rushed a bit and we're asked several times if we were done. There were empty tables, so that knocked it from the higher 3.5 side to the lower. Great little dumpling place! The place is small, with limited seating, so be prepared to wait a little, though we didn't wait long! Maybe 20 minutes? This is an awesome spot to get happy with bao, soup dumplings, and more. This location is within Mekong Plaza, a little Mecca of Asian food in Mesa. It's a very small place so at busy times you may have to wait for a table. Yet, the wait is worth it. You can also order to go and order large larger quantities of their product, frozen to take with you and make it home. We saw this place on Check Please and thought it looked great. The place was small and casual but nice. The service was very good. The food on the other hand was just fair. We ordered the Beef Chow Fun and Pork Sheng Jian Bow. The beef came first. The noodles were overcooked and the beef was fair but sparse. Especially $19. It could have used a bit more flavor as well. It was mostly oil and soy. It was tender and not fatty or stringy. The bao. They looked wonderful on the plate. The bao bread was actually the best part of the Bao. The meat filling was pretty bland and dry. Most good Bao while not juicy like a dumpling or soup dumpling are at least moist, tender and have a bit of juice. The value. $35 before tax and tip puts this very low on my value meter. Close to $45 all in could get 3 people a pretty good lunch special at most Chinese restaurants in town. read more

Had lunch here and it was about a 10 min wait to get in. There is an iPad at the front door to put your name on the wait list. Small footprint in the Mekong Plaza. Ordered the pork and chives dumplings, XLB, and Beef chow fun. Service was expedient and waters were already preset on the table. There was a QR code on the table that allowed you to order online or if you waited a few more minutes, server will come over and take your order. All of our food came fast... within about 10-15 min. Chow fun had the wok hay ( wok air that makes food taste good) and thick slices of velveted beef slices. Take out review! I ordered via DoorDash though you can order in front of their shop on the iPad. I got the chicken dumplings and the braised pork rice. Chicken dumplings: Dry and chewy. Not good. Wouldn't recommend. Braised pork rice: The flavor was good and the pork was tender but wish they gave a little bigger portion of rice and meat. The other reason I give it 2 stars is because of the lack of care when it came to packaging the order. They included no utensils and no sauce for the dumplings. Honestly not sure what the hype is about this place. Overall the food was meh and that doesn't say much. We stopped in and placed an order to go so we could sit at the food court. They don't allow outside drinks and we had our boba teas with us. We tried their spicy chili dumplings, chicken xiao long bao and beef chow fun. The spicy chili dumplings were all spice and no flavor. The filling inside lacked any depth to it, all I tasted was pork. Definitely need to up their game and include some flavor in their meats. The chicken xiao long bao were decent soup dumplings. The chicken had more flavor and the broth was tasty. Definitely wasn't the best I have had, but not the worst. The beef chow fun was inedible. Lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon. The place was very crowded, but everything moved quickly. We sat outside (which is a table inside the mall, but outside the restaurant itself). The menu has plenty of options from dumplings to bao to rice to veggies. We opted from a variety of place of bao, Chinese broccoli, and Honey ribs. All the dishes were really good! The bao are chewy on the top and crispy on the bottom. The honey ribs were delicious! Yes, they are small pieces of rib with bones, but the bones are easily removed. This spot is so delicious I can see why it went viral. You can absolutely tell the time and quality they put into their food. Happy Bao's is located in the Mekong Plaza which is basically a mall. They have all kinds of cool shops and places to eat along with a huge grocery store. We visited on a Wednesday night about 630pm and were able to get a table right away. However it is a small restaurant and very popular. While we were there a line formed outside for those waiting to be seated. It's worth the wait! Their food is very authentic and fresh. The quality is apparent and the bao's were a work of delicious art. I personally ordered the Pork Wonton Noodle and it was amazing. The broth was super flavorful and the wontons were perfect. I haven't been in a while and I noticed they sadly took away their combo meals. Either way, the food was so yummy. We ordered the house fried rice which includes shrimp, beef, chicken and BBQ pork with onions, peas and carrots. The portion size was also huge. We also got soup dumplings and the pork sheng jian bao buns. Out of the dumplings, the soup dumplings were soo good and juicy. The pork sheng jian bao buns were good too, but I prefer the soup dumplings more. I also love the sauces they paired with the dumplings. You can also ask them for some ginger. The beef noodle soup was also so flavorful. The broth was so rich and the noodles had a good texture. Service was also super quick and efficient. Tucked in the back of a shopping plaza this was a delicious find! We initially came to this plaza because h mart is across the street but stumbled across this and got immediately hungry. When you walk up to the front, you will see a kiosk that you can put your name down or order to go. Now time for the good stuff! The food was delicious and fresh. You can tell that the soup dumplings were handmade and made with love! The cucumber salad was good, but very garlic. Something that kind of did throw me off was that the cucumbers look like they had been smashed in the middle which I wasn't too fond of, but the cucumbers still had a good crunch when we bit into them. So for presentation on the cucumber salad I would give a 2/5. I would definitely come back and get more soup dumplings or they refer to them as Xiao Long Bao. We also got the Rou Jia Mo which had pork and some other ingredients in there, and it was in between almost like an English muffin, but fresh. Happy Bao is a small spot tucked inside Mekong Plaza in Mesa's Asian district--and it's absolutely worth the wait if it's busy (and it usually is during peak hours). I didn't snap any photos while we were there (too busy eating!), but the food made a lasting impression. We started with the Sheng Jian Bao Combo, which comes with two pork, two veggie, and two chicken baos--a great way to sample their range. I do wish there was an option to swap the veggie for another meat like beef or seafood (they might offer that--we didn't ask), but overall, it was a solid mix. The standout, though, was the Singapore Rice Noodles. Packed with shrimp, BBQ pork, and stir-fried with a bunch of other goodness, every bite was full of flavor. The portion was generous--plenty for two people with leftovers to take home. Honestly, it was one of the best versions of Singapore street noodles I've had anywhere. 8/29/25: this particular Friday we visited Happy Bao's for the first time after work; we arrived around 5:30ish. We left happy & stuffed - with leftovers! Food? I don't like seafood or onions, so it's sometimes a challenge for me to eat at Asian restaurants. Luckily, I was able to enjoy some tasty items from Happy Bao's. The food came out hot, it was extremely colorful, and everything was delicious. Service? It's a very small place inside the restaurant (if you suffer from claustrophobia, think twice), but there was a small table or two immediately outside their door. It's in the Mekong Market so if you've been there, you know there's a pretty large dining area located in the food court. The few staff we spoke with were polite & quick. Ambiance? Nice. They had some cute decor on the walls, though I will say the floor near our table was a bit sticky. Considering the amount of traffic (a lot of customers were simply picking up orders) -- plus how full & busy it was -- I imagine it's difficult to find the time to clean the floors. Once inside, it was easy to find. It seems like the restaurant does a lot of takeout, but they still had ample seating for those choosing to eat at the restaurant.
