Very mediocre Chinese spot. I had the beef chow fun ($17) which was flavorless and bland. I also ordered the chicken dumplings which was 4 tiny dumplings for $6. Not flavorful at all and tasted like it was cooked from frozen. I did pickup and pay at cashier, yet the cashier woman was unfriendly and demanded I pay a tip. I do not like bullying for tips so I left $0. There already was a $1 convenience charge built into the bill for pickup. Will not be back here as there are much better options in Mesa. read more

Our Dim Sum experience was delightful. While they did not have the carts, the food was fresh and delivered hot. We ordered on a a fill in card and found that method very relaxing. We were there for a wedding planning meeting and had an enjoyable meal while discussing. Everything we ordered was tasty. By far, it was the service that sold this gem. I accidentally left behind a gift shirt that was given to me at the meal. It was a Sunday and I didn't remember until they closed. I called on Monday in a panic and left a voice message. They were closed. I drove in on Tuesday first thing and when I walked in and saw the shirt placed carefully behind the counter, the gentleman working there handing it to me with a smile, and refused my tip. We were craving dim sum after rock climbing yesterday outdoors. This cafe was a welcome reprieve after being rained out and hailed on during the end of our climb. It was the comfort food we were searching for. They had all my basic favs like har gow (shrimp dumplings), shumai (pork and shrimp dumplings), and pork buns (which I didn't regretfully order because I already ordered so much!) The sticky rice and soup dumplings were so good! My husband was excited to order his favorite, the spicy fried shrimp with was mixed with jalapeños off the non-dim sum menu. Finally got to try Dim Sum Cafe in Mesa. The place is so cozy, and there are plenty of parking spots. Oh and they have extensive selections of food haha. It could be overwhelming but probably you could easily find whatever you're craving for. My friend and I, we got to try beef chow fun, kung pao chicken, and xiao long bao. Maybe they were having a bad day, but the bread was very soggy, and fell apart in my hand right away. You don't want super gummy, doughy bao....but you don't want bao that cannot stick together. I will give them another shot though because my sister in law swears by them. - Xiao long bao (soup dumplings): they were good. Dumpling dough was tender. Pork was juicy, and the soup was delicately flavored. They didn't provide sliced ginger on the side though (not sure if they just don't do that in AZ?) to accompany the Xiao long bao. - Wonton noodle soup: light, delicate flavor. The wontons were also good, not too doughy, and not soggy (that is the worst!), and they were packed with flavor to balance against the lighter soup. Noodles were good too. - Eggplant - just get it. They were so tender, not super greasy, and the sauce was out of this world. - Hot oil sticks: you get these to dip in the wonton soup. These were SO GOOD. I usually don't like ordering these at restaurants because they're a) too doughy, which makes them heavy and sink in your stomach or 2) they're soaked too long in the oil, so they just again, sink in your stomach 3) they're served too cold. THE ATMOSPHERE * There was no music in this restaurant, so it felt very empty and awkward with just four customers inside. * From when we entered and while we were eating, the staff kept hovering and or staring at us while we were eating, which made me and my guest feel uncomfortable. * They gave us the check before asking if we were done. I was going to ask for another appetizer but didn't feel welcome to. * It felt like they were rushing us to leave for another large party of customers. It especially felt this way since they were hovering. * They insisted that they only take Zelle, but when we explained that we didn't have that, they tried to guilt us into not using a credit card by saying that "they earned more as a small business through Zelle". It felt a little pushy and sketchy. THE FOOD * They cross contaminated food, and it caused me to have an allergic reaction. My throat started to swell up. * As someone with Chinese family and who has had authentic Chinese food, the fried rice was not very flavorful and the wontons were burnt to a dark brown color. Located in Mesa and opened its doors Fall of 2017. This was a current Tik Tok find for me. My daughter and I decided to come in for lunch last week. Not to busy when we arrived. It was shortly after the prime lunch time when we came about 1:30 PM. Atmosphere was inviting with Asian inspired light fixtures and modern wood accents. Booths surround the outer walls and inner areas had plenty of tables for dining. Clean interior. We were brought their menu which were HUGE and consists of a wide range of traditional Chinese dishes. One of the most requested dishes is the Dim Sum which is made to order and hence the name of the place. Appetizer appeal seems to be the chicken feet choice which supposedly has a gelatinous texture and packed with a light gingery, chili pepper sweet tangy flavor. We considered trying but passed. After reviewing all that's listed, my daughter and I both chose to go with the lunch special which is from 1 PM-3 PM weekdays. Server was pleasant and brought our soup to start. All lunch specials include either egg drop soup or hot & sour, plus an egg roll and white rice ( you can sub for fried rice at an additional fee). I had the sesame chicken and my daughter had the beef lo mein. I'd have to say, mine wasn't that great. It was way to sweet and almost had a taste of a pancake syrup. My daughter enjoyed hers much more than I did mine. Her meal was $10.95 the other $11.95 ( not including drinks). For a "lunch special" still a little steep IMO. The dim sum is the worst Ive had. The har gow had maybe 1 shrimp in it. The siu mai tasted like old meatloaf; really terrible. However, we also had sweet and sour chicken and beef chow fun, and they were both very good. I don't know how this place stays in business with the dim sum being inedible. My husband and I love coming here! We come almost once a week. I am from NY and used to go to China town all the time for Chinese food and this is the best I've had in Arizona by far! I love that the restaurants atmosphere is that of NY. Nothing fancy - but in a good way! The owners and the family are amazing too! Family owned and operated Cantonese styled restaurant! Absolutely love that my Yelp friends lead me here. Shout out to Paul and Elaine. Everything is cooked to order and they make their own dumplings and bao in house. The service was friendly and attentive. He spoke Cantonese and English very well. There is a proper way to eat bao. This restaurant seems very low key about if you do it right. But some restaurants post guys. Put it on the spoon that is provided. Poke a hole with your chopstick. Drink the soup. Apply whatever sauce you want. And eat. But you don't want to eat it with a fork and lose your soup. The interior is sparse. And I'm not sure they even have alcohol or boba. WOW! Hadn't been here for a few months (3/4) and what a change. And NOT for the better. First off it's FILTHY. I mean nasty. Just look at that front door! Torn up window tint and trillions of stains & fingerprints. Looks as though it has never been cleaned. Ever. I don't like judging books by their covers having eaten around the world and cleanliness standards are not always U.S. level. Especially Southeast Asian street food. You gotta let the sanitary issue go to enjoy the experience. But this is inexcusable. Floors dirty, booths, worn and dirty, peeling paint, etc. So on to the food. Not good. The soup dumplings were dry, the shumai strange and extra chewy, my wife wouldn't even look at them. Shrimp dumplings, OK. Steamed pork, tasteless, and either all bone or fatty. Steamed roast pork buns had the heaviest consistency, Not in any way fluffy. Just odd. The West Lake soup was wayyyyy overspiced with cilantro and contained large chunks of broken up hamburger meat. I used to love this soup, but this was inedible. And the worse dish was the Singapore Chow Fun. The noodles were so overcooked, very little in the way roast pork (and the few pieces present were all fat), chicken and beef. There were a few shrimp. But the real letdown was the taste or I should say lack of (taste). For a dish that is supposed to be curry heavy it was super bland. Prices all seemed to have gone up by a buck or two. But that s***s everywhere. Service was mediocre at best, while the 3 dudes in there just sat at tables on their cellphones. With so many good dim sum places in the Asian District Mesa, this place is a horror and should really just close. Or BE closed by the health inspector. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! read more
