So this is the second Chinese restaurant in the Manchester area where we had a decent to good first meal and then a crappy second meal. My partner is Chinese, so we've eaten a fair amount of Chinese food in top US cities. Speaking bluntly and honestly, Chinese in New Hampshire is Chinese adjacent. It's designed for pallets that aren't educated on proper Chinese cuisine and flavoring. In saying that, they do have a good value menu of acceptable food. However, our last meal, the quality took a pretty big dip. I was frustrated that the sesame chicken was not white meat by default. Dark meat is an acquired taste and in this area, this is the first restaurant that served it as default. Another strange and frustrating trend with Asian restaurants in New Hampshire is that they offer two or three cuisines instead of focusing on one. Excellent service but our friends knew the owner, which probably helped. The food and drinks were good, too. The pepper shrimp was a table favorite. A decent stop for our day 2 in the area... Admittedly, sushi is not the 1st thing that comes to mind when I was looking for food options but our hosts were pretty set on here, as it's one of their favorite places. Ordered a seafood plate type with shrimp, scallops, calamari, fish, vegetables. The fish was like freeze dried hard to cut and eat, no flavor. The scallops were tasteless and cut up, not sure if real. The calamari didn't look like calamari, no tentacles only overly large rings, heard some restaurants substitute with pig intestines. Rest of the plate was filled with vegetable stuff. Place used to be my favorite spot but second horrible meal that I didn't eat and refused to take home. Used to be a lot better. First, I'm pretty sure they use the same fryolator for the fish and everything else. Our crispy sesame chicken tasted like fish. It was supposed to be white meat but seemed to be dark meat. The crab Rangoon had a strange taste. The pork lo mein had all the pork sitting at the very top of the container so one person got some pork while the rest of us didn't...and the rest of the lo mein had no flavor...like at all. The rice was dried out. The best part were the beef sticks...but they were actually better cold. Overall not a great experience. The leftovers went in the garbage. read more

I would not recommend. The sweet sour soup was good. For $60, you don't get much. And the quality of food is really not that terrific. and if you order online, don't think you're gonna walk in there and pick up your food. They want to see your cell phone with your online order confirmation to release the food to you. Molly 56.66 was not sufficient. The online ordering process is poor. Placing an order is easy. Getting a call or text when your order is ready does not work. I had to call them to find out that my order was done. After all this it was cold and unappetizing when we got home and my wife had to microwave it. I understand the dine-in experience is pretty good, but don't bother with ordering online. read more

I told the waitress that I have a gluten allergy. We review what I was interested in ordering and she assured me there was no gluten. When my order arrived I didn't see anything on my plate that lead me to believe there was anything containing gluten. However, as I ate the sushi, I noted a crutch and upon inspection I noticed tempura flakes. I asked the waitress and she confirmed with the chef that there was in fact tempura flakes. She told me all spicy crab roll contain tempura, as if I was supposed to know that. I have now have had a reaction for the last several days. Very frustrating. Tried Chen's Garden takeout for the first time today because our usual Chinese joint is closed on Mondays. We were not impressed. The chicken fingers were over fried. The lo mein lacked flavor and was made with thin thin noddles. Not my favorite. The general tsos I couldn't eat. It tasted vinegary and was super watery. The duck sauce was too watery too. I don't get why anyone would offer that duck sauce. Gross. Fried rice was mediocre at best. Might be the worst Chinese we've had. Disappointed. Will not eat here again. read more

Simply delicious! We ate here as a party of 4 on a week night. The food was great, service was wonderful and the restaurant was very clean. Some staple items are made a bit different than what we were used to such as rice noodles for the lo mein, but we enjoyed the change! I ordered the "Seafood in the Bird Nest" which traditionally is a bunch of seafood and mixed vegetables in a light sauce in a "bird nest" made of crispy, crunchy, fried noodles. Chen's Garden's version of the "Seafood in the Bird Nest" was the ultimate cheap version. The seafood was obviously not fresh at all. I don't need all the seafood to be fresh but if frozen, it should be some good quality frozen seafood. Some of the seafood tasted like it came out of a can or something. It wasn't good. The actual "nest" was NOT made of noodles. It was like a big, fried wonton wrapper. For $18.95 - it was not worth. Actually for $18.95 the seafood should be fresh and the portion size should have been bigger. Rip off. My friend got the pad thai and said it was really bland. Another one of my friends ordered a lemonade and when he got a refill the waiter made it seem like the refill was included in the initial charge but he got charged again for another lemonade. Mind you, I may have ordered the wrong things off the menu; but I left feeling sick to my stomach. My party of three ordered shrimp tempura app, chicken wings, Peking dumplings and chicken fried rice. I understand we ordered fried food, but everything tasted just like oil from the fryer. The wings had no flavor and could only eat one. Dumplings were heavy on the dough and only good with sauce. The shrimp tempura app only had 2 shrimp! The rest were veggies?!?! When we asked our server what that was all about, he could not care less we were dissapointed even though we had disgust written all over our face. The two shrimp we did have, were MUSHY?!? Worst Chinese food I have ordered in Manchester. The chicken wings was very small and dry and the egg roll tasted like cardboard. I ordered lomein with my meal instead I got fried rice. The rice was starchy like it was sitting around for some time. I had no idea what kind of meat was in it which also was dry.
