I'm glad that I did I ordered the a la carte (buffet style) catering option from Simply Black and White for my wedding's rehearsal dinner. My folks are pretty easy going, so if the food wasn't the best it wouldn't have been a problem, but I'm sure I wouldn't have heard the end of it from her side of the family if the food was bad. Luckily, the food was great and Chef Ralph came in and set up everything on time and very quickly. This is what we ordered: Entree Spicy BBQ Beef Brisket (Awesome, I want more) Smoked Italian Sausage, Peppers, and Onions (Great, a classic) Calypso Shrimp Linguine (Awesome) Aruba Grilled Beef and Chicken Kabobs (Damn, I was very surprised at how well this was cooked, tender, juicy, and flavorful) Sides: Mediterranean Pasta Salad (Good) Potato Salad (Pretty basic, but still good) Bacon Baked Beans (I love baked beans, but they are baked beans so there's not much to say lol) I thought that the pricing was very reasonable, and we got a lot of great food for our dinner. We had planned on about 40 guests, but I think closer to 50 showed up. We had more than enough food, and plenty of left overs which were all devoured the next day (a testament to how good the food was I think). Chef Ralph offers quite a few different catering services from drop off buffet style to full service personal chef. I can only testify that the buffet style food was amazing and a reasonable price. Although the food and price were amazing, the experience wasn't completely perfect. I did have trouble navigating the website, and email, my preferred mode of communication, was a little slow. Given that these small nitpicks have nothing to do with the end product, the service and food, I can wholeheartedly recommend Simply Black and White Catering. My mouth is watering thinking about the BBQ Brisket right now. According to their website, Simply Black and White Catering serves all of Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod, and Eastern Rhode Island.

Ordering was a breeze and the B&M team was very responsive. On the day of our event, the catering delivery was right on time. The gentleman delivering, Dwayne, asked for a bit of direction for placement and then set up the entire buffet. He was professional, kind and fun to chat with while he set up. But the food... the food was phenomenal. Everyone kept saying we needed to order from B&M again. We did the clambake and it seemed the favorites were the clam chowder, the lobsters, the mussels and the cornbread but everything was great. All the extra pieces were included too, which was really helpful - from forks/knives to seafood crackers and ladles for the soup. We also had a shellfish allergy and they were able to accommodate - everything was cooked separately. I can't recommend them enough - they made hosting a fun party so easy and it will be a meal remembered for years to come.

I just need to tell you how incredibly impressed I was with the Pranzi team. From the very beginning working with Chelsea was a dream, she was professional, prompt, and helpful. This event was the first of its kind and I had never worked in Rhode Island before. It is also the first event at the hotels we used as they typically do not do events. I found Pranzi in my search, and they seemed like the right fit and they certainly were! Melissa and Jarrod were with us each day for breakfast and lunch and as soon as I met them, I knew they had everything in control and in place. Melissa was thoughtful, gave us help determining the best for set up and kept me informed as needed throughout the day. Jarrod was a very nice, helpful man and always willing to help and very kind. Our evening events with Erica as the lead and with Erica and Jen on night 2 along with their team - Jonathan, Emily, Jennesey, Michaela, Joe, Jeremy, Joscan and Brent. Wow ! They made us shine. What an amazing group of wonderful people who are amazing at their jobs. I had many conversations with all of them, and the conversations ALWAYS came back to how much they love their job, they love the company and said that the owner takes such good care of them. I kept telling them I was going to move to RI so I can work with all of them again and host more events ! I could go on and on. The biggest issue was the lack of communication, preparation, and coordination leading up to and on our wedding day. The event coordinator I was assigned from the beginning was pregnant and due to give birth about a month before my wedding. While I completely understand that circumstances like this happen, there should have been a proper transition plan in place. Instead, I was informed of a new coordinator only ONE WEEK before my wedding, and I did not actually speak with or meet my new coordinator, Rachel, until the day before. At that point, it was very clear that nothing had been properly communicated or transferred over. Unfortunately, this resulted in complete chaos on our wedding day. Tables were set up in the wrong order, place cards were not placed correctly, a significant amount of our personal decorations were never put out, and the floor plan was incorrect. Rachel also completely mishandled our ceremony processional. She had the bridesmaids begin walking out while the groomsmen's song was still playing, completely throwing off the timing and flow of our ceremony entrance. This was something that should have been coordinated ahead of time, and it was incredibly disappointing to have such an important moment handled so poorly. The lack of preparation extended to basic catering necessities as well. Pranzi did not bring trash bags or paper towels, and they did not provide steak knives for guests who were served the steak meal. These are extremely basic items that I would expect a professional catering company to have prepared and readily available for a wedding. The coordination itself was also incredibly frustrating. Rachel took very little initiative and seemed to have very limited problem-solving skills. Multiple times, she would ask me if I wanted something handled, I would say yes, and then it simply would not get done. As the bride, I should not have had to spend my wedding day tracking down my coordinator and making sure basic tasks were being completed. One of the most disappointing moments was after our wedding speeches, when we went to do our champagne toast and realized that the bride and groom's champagne glasses had not even been filled. Something that should have been such a simple detail was completely overlooked. I understand that weddings are large events and that things can go wrong, but what was most disappointing was the sheer lack of preparation, communication, initiative, and problem-solving. These were not just minor details that we could overlook. We trusted Pranzi with a very important day, and unfortunately, the execution did not reflect the level of service we expected. I reached out to the owner, Lisa, to share my experience and give Pranzi an opportunity to address what happened. Unfortunately, and not to my surprise given the lack of communication throughout this entire experience, she has not responded! If you are a bride considering hiring Pranzi for your wedding day, I strongly encourage you to proceed with caution and ask detailed questions about who will be coordinating your event, how transitions between coordinators are handled, and how you can be assured that every detail will be communicated and followed through on. Based on my experience, I would not recommend relying on Pranzi to manage the details of your wedding without extensive oversight and written confirmation.

Our first contact with Kendra was in February for a May event. She was helpful, responsive, and took great care of us even though our date happened to coincide with one of White's busiest days: Mother's Day! We booked a private room for three hours with access to the grand buffet. We were not able to provide an exact headcount as we told guests to stop in whenever they could, but Kendra and her team were still able to accommodate us. The staff, Kendra and Myles, greeted our guests warmly, provided cocktail service, continuously replenished water, coffee, and juice, and quickly replaced place settings as our 40-50 guests came and went during the morning. When the room started to get full with the original five tables that were set, Kendra and her staff set up an additional table without even being asked to do so. They had such a keen eye for the details and really made the event run perfectly. A special treat was that Chris, the owner of LaFrance Hospitality, made a point of coming over to the hosts to thank us for our patronage. So nice of him to do that on such a busy Sunday morning. The buffet was plentiful and the food was delicious. All of our guests enjoyed their meals, and even on such a crowded day the lines moved very quickly and nothing ran out.
