This is our sixth year with this school district, and it has been an ugly unprofessional…read morediscriminatory nightmare from day one. Eastern High School has built its fame by humiliating, disregarding, and intimidating the ones who can't stand up for themselves - children, especially children with special needs. My kids go to the nurse's office to get help, get rolling eyes, "suck it up", and sent back to class in tears instead of being sent to guidance or making a phone call home. All my kids and their friends regard Eastern staff nurses as " intimidating, uncaring, scary". "I'm afraid to go to the nurse" is all I hear when I teach my kids where to get help. On multiple occasions they have asked for help from administrators, and they are not being heard, their concerns being dismissed. On a couple of occasions, when my child needed urgent medical help, they were sent back to class in a very distressed state and ended up in the ER right after. I am not one of the parents who are lucky enough to have the means to sue the district, but I know many families who can and do. If there's anyone who needs help with a lawsuit or a civil lawsuit against the district, please, reach out by responding to this post. I have a long list of evidence that any lawyer would find helpful. I just want to see some justice done, because enough is enough.

Basicamally I only gave one star because the lemonade is…read morealright. However, this is a school full of LIARS.

I am a current high school student (who is now enrolled in a different district) that attended VMS…read morefor ONE (1) year. During the very short amount of time that I spent as a student at VMS, my brother and I were routinely harassed, ridiculed, and threatened. As well as this, I experienced being called a variety of slurs, being physically assaulted, and being sexually harassed nearly EVERY DAY because of my sexual orientation and gender identity as a transgender man. On a few special occasions, the police were even involved. The bullying and harassment has caused me to develop a handful of mental disorders as a result of the trauma I endured. I was hospitalized several times due to mental health complications. Administration did nothing. When admin wouldn't listen to me (and I was VERY vocal about these issues), I would bring my parents in to argue with them about the situations. No punishments were given at all. Typically, I was sent to speak with a counselor when these things happened and ended up missing days of class time, which affected my grades severely. I was given no real support from admin as a student struggling with mental health. My parents eventually stopped fighting and enrolled me in a different school to protect my life. I am now working through complex trauma that could have been avoided if admin took my situation seriously. Avoid VMS at all costs. Do not enroll your child here if they are a minority, ESPECIALLY being a transgender or queer person.

My children attended both Kresson Elementary and Voorhees Middle School (VMS)…read more Kresson is a mixed experience. While some areas are fine, I feel the school has declined in developing early writing and math skills. Class sizes appear larger, and there are insufficient teachers to focus on developing critical thinking and fostering deeper learning. At the same time, the district has been eager to promote Early Sex Education under the Health curriculum and has staff dedicated to those lessons. Parents should know that you can opt out of the Sex Education portion if you wish. Opt-out forms can be requested through your district school administration and must be submitted by September 22nd. As for VMS, both my children and I found the administration to be a complete disaster. Bullying was a serious issue for years, yet little to no progress was ever made in resolving it. My child with autism "graduated" from VMS after enduring multiple traumatic incidents, including a fractured collarbone, a concussion, and being attacked with a metal chain by a group of students at the public park. Instead of supporting him, the administration punished him for standing up for himself. Parents should also be aware that NJ schools are not required to release video surveillance evidence to parents--even in cases where a child suffers physical abuse. In our case, incidents were dismissed as "bad luck," "accidents," or worse, the administration placed the blame on my son himself. No resources were ever provided to help him develop social skills, despite his autism diagnosis. To be fair, many of the teaching staff at VMS are very good, and some teachers are truly excellent. But when it comes to the administration, I would give zero stars. If you wish to opt your child out of Early Sex Education as part of the Health class at VMS, don't hesitate to get in touch with the school for the necessary form.
