I read online that they make their own cheese. I can't pass up fresh cheese. We bought the buttercup brie. Whoa. I made it with a caramelized French onion chicken and melted it over top. Whoa. Outstanding. It was small but the service was warm and inviting. When you walk inside there is a window to the cheese making room. I loved it. I also love the adorable little calf and elderly goats out front. The honey looked mouthwatering so I also bought a jar of that. It smells heavenly. I can't wait to try it. We took part in the Yoga & Tea Ceremony. The instructor, Lana was friendly, knowledgeable, & flexible. My daughter does a lot of yoga and she enjoyed it. I don't do yoga often and it was not too challenging for me. We practiced in a beautiful field with wild flowers. Lana provided mats & blankets so if you don't own a yoga mat it will not matter. The tea ceremony was a wonderful way to finish the experience. Of course we stopped by the farm store for cheese & sausage!!! A must do!!! read more

This farm is so cute!! I came here with a friend cause we heard about the cows and it's beautiful! It's close to Princeton, easy to find and has a little parking lot which was convenient. You immediately see the goats and calves up front that you can pet or feed and the shop is right across the way which was filled with yummy items from other local farms and fresh cheeses you can try! The workers there were very friendly and even told us about their farm cats running around and other calves they had in another shed. They were all so cute and loved being pet! :) read more

This is a functioning dairy farm and also free range chickens happily graze on the way into the farm. It is a phenomenal bucolic scene. There's a wide variety of items for sale, too many to list but yes, fill your fridge, freezer and pantry, plus also a small amount of produce. Prices are incredibly fair for artisanal quality. Love this place for fresh eggs and cheese. Stopped by today for bread and whatever else I could find. After waiting 10-15 minutes for a transaction to finish (someone had purchased quite a few gift certificates), I had to wait 7+ mins more for the young man behind the counter. Before she left, the customer thanked me for my patience but the worker never acknowledged my presence. He just kept writing in his book, and looking at the transaction machine. Went for the mozzarella making class. There were about 10 students. After a brief intro and history of the farm and visiting the animals that were present on the farm (they move around) we went to the cottage to make our own cheese. We started by making our own curd and then also from pre-made curd. You bring home the recipe and the cheese you made and get to taste it after along with other cheeses and goods made by the farm. The teacher was great and we had a little lesson on molecules. Bring your own wine to enjoy with the tasting. read more

Nice little farm store with a small selection grass fed dairy, cheeses and meats. Seems like most of their stuff is made on the spot, but their bread, milk, half and half and yogurts are made elsewhere. I picked up some steaks here as well as the oddly citrusy nettle cheese and the pungent garlic peppercorn cheese. After devouring the lot with the family at that evening's dinner, I can say that we were all very pleased with their food. The steaks were really great quality and it made me appreciate the fact that they provide access to local, pasture raised, grass fed meat at a fair price. My only gripe is that all of the meat is frozen. They told me they don't have enough traffic to keep fresh stock on hand. Fair enough. I'll be happy to shop here again nonetheless. read more

My only grief on the farm had been their egg production, but that's recently been fixed (and then some!) as they've brought in a brood of new laying hens. I went in on a Saturday afternoon a couple of weekends ago to get cheese, and was amazed to see that they still had eggs, when in the past they'd usually be gone within an hour or two of the farm store opening the doors. For NJ produced cheese, this is certainly as good as it gets. In France or Spain you could probably find something as good or better, but let's keep in mind that this is central NJ. The cows here are treated to organic grass, and have plenty of room to stroll about in various pastures. There are usually around 5 cheeses available, that range from young/creamy versions, to sharper aged ones. I like them all, but do prefer the aged ones. The cheesemakers are constantly improving their craft and trying new recipes. Come here and sample a few varieties, and support local artisans. read more

A simple "best of Princeton" search or something similar brought me this destination on a recent trip to the college town. Awaiting us were friendly staff, fresh farm air, and a small store selling meats, cheeses, eggs, and other assorted organic items. We walked in the office door, but were shown around to the store by the friendly farmhand who was busy sorting through some records. He told us about the farm, and gave us suggestions for other places nearby to check out. The farm is completely organic, and natural, so fresh milk products were not in season yet as milking cows is not done naturally in the winter. It's amazing what you can learn outside of the city! In the store, there is a fairly large frozen case full of all types of meat, and different cuts. It is all about twice as expensive as the cheap stuff in the local supermarket, but worth the price for what were described as very well-treated, grassfed animals and completely organic processes. I selected a pack of four lamb sausages for $10, and cannot wait to cook up the very large pieces. The cheeses were of very high quality, and a sample plate was out for us to nibble. The man we met earlier told us we could wander around the farm and have a look around, but we were a little shy and did not know where to start. We wished him well and hoped he could be successful in his quest to get products into the New York City market. read more

This is a local working dairy farm off of 206. (edit : we saw the cows escaping after the power lines went out on December 26, 2010--that was funny). We stopped by when the dairy production side was down, but it would have been neat to see, particularly with children. About 3 different raw milk cheeses are made there, which you can sample with crackers. None were as flavorful or impressive as we would have liked, and the prices were $16-22/lb. Huge eggs from free range chickens are $5/dozen. Grass fed beef and lamb, as well as heirloom pork--all at ultra premium prices which may convince localvores to become vegan-- are also sold. A bit pricier than most of the other farms we've sampled, but the staff (one woman on our visit) was nice and helpful. If I decide to try to eat local-only, and even if I don't, this farm merits another visit. read more

Just realized today there is cheese being crafted in my local area, so that was a huge thrill ! Have driven by here many times, and decided I wanted to check them out. Bought some brown eggs, $5 a dozen, and will enjoy tasting them. Met Ian (who works there), and he told me some things about the cheese (which is made there while the milking operation is in swing.) So I bought 2 types, Maidenhead and Toma Primavera. Was not able to taste them before I bought them, which was a bummer. However, Ian told me the Maidenhead was their best cheese in his opinion, and the Toma was recommened on Yelp by someone who shopped in Philly and bought it there. The smell of the Maidenhead is definately strong , and the taste is so creamy and awesome I recommend it. It was soft, but firm enough to be cut. Ian told me the rind is washed with a beer, and I see the package tells me it was Flying Fish Brewing Company. Next up is the Toma Primavera. This is a very tasty cheese, with small holes like a baby swiss. Firm. Buttery, strong flavor that does remind me of a swiss. All their cheese is from the cows on the farm. It was fantastic to drive in and see cats walking around, a cow and a pony. The real deal, so close. I will be back many times. But before I go back, I will enjoy my breakfast sausage, and then I will try more of the cheeses and more of the meats. read more

Stopped by this farm after seeing the "farm store" sign off the road, and instantly fell in love driving by the cows. We saw someone go into the store from the side door with basket of chicken eggs, and I got excited for super fresh eggs. The sign at the counter said $6 per dozen, which is about 3 times the usual price elsewhere, we were still willing to try. The person behind the counter helped and carried the basket full of eggs behind the counter, but she told me they're sold out. I didn't call her out on it, so maybe next time we'll stop by earlier in the day for some "fresh eggs". The store itself was cute, with various items from other local NJ companies like honey, and lavender honey. Shop local! read more

Probably the worst experience I've had to date. Went to Lee's Turkey farm (ah-mazing btw) to pick some veggies and decided to check this place afterwards for some cheese and ice cream , read the website covid rules and even though the store is the only thing open, no farm, figured it was still worth it. Drove for 30 mins only to walk in with our 8 year old to be told no kids allowed . What??! We were all wearing a mask and our son was just baffled as to why children are not welcome. I understand toddlers (if there are some fragile equipment in store ) or baby strollers etc..but pre teens ? Where does one draw the line of what a kid is ? No apologies no explanation, just the "unfortunately kids are not allowed". We obviously were not going to leave him outside and give business to this atrocious place . If they plan on sticking to this awful policy it should at least be posted on their site so people know in advance. Oh well , found a great ice cream place another 30 mins away. read more

Today my wife and I took our 2 year old daughter to Cherry Grove Farm. It was our first visit, prompted by a recommendation (for grass-fed beef) from one of the volunteers at Howell Living History Farm. We had a wonderful visit with a baby goat, and then went into the farm store. We were the only visitors in the store. The young woman behind the counter said nothing to us when we entered. When both my wife and I asked questions about their offerings, we were met with curt, monosyllabic answers. She was rude and most unwelcoming. Fine. I can't comment on the quality of what they sell, except to note that all the meat was frozen and extremely expensive. There was also very little in the way of cheeses (ostensibly their specialty), and no information about ANYTHING could be pried from the woman behind the counter. It has been our good fortune to have met some wondeful people in the world of organic, artisinal foods. But we met no such people at Cherry Grove. We won't be going back. You just can't beat this place. Great example of the "slow food" movement and shows that NJ--despite the mafia connotations, graffiti, and poisoned industrialized areas-- can in fact revive its image as "The Garden State." If you're in Princeton, it's just a short drive down US 206. Beautiful drive down; nice land with brown moo cows chilling in the pasture. Cherry Grove also sells other local products like honey and tea, but the obvious draw is their cheeses. Custom made from their own milk, this cheese is unlike any you ever had. Sounds like a sales pitch? It is! Though I don't work for them, I'd probably volunteer if I had time. If you can't make the drive, they usually canvas most farmer's markets in the area. It's a shame that certain people have to be obnoxious. This is a small farm that has a respectable output, but they are not Walmart: i.e. they cannot feed the entire state on their own! So, yeah, some stuff may be out of stock. Stop being friggin snotty about it! My one criticism is they haven't made "Maidenhead" in a long time, and I would like to see that again. That was the beer washed cheese. Not sure if they pissed of Flying Fish, or they just don't want to make it anymore. But it was the best. Second favorite is the peppercorn jack. read more

This farm is super frustrating especially if you are trying to buy eggs. They never seem to have any and if they do, well too bad, you missed it by 5 minutes. I called them twice on a Saturday and they hadn't brought the eggs in for the day. I then stopped by at 1:30pm and still no eggs. I called back at 3:00pm and guess what, THEY SOLD OUT OF THEM!!! This goes on ALL THE TIME! I am a local trying to patronize your business. The least you could have done was set aside one dozen for me. I wasn't being greedy and I asked 4 times in one day for the eggs. The man that was working the counter said that they would soon be getting 500 more chickens. Too little, too late. Really great cheese!!! I'm a fan of the NettleJack. Its got quite a different taste! They also have organic beef, pork and lamb. I'm not sure about chicken, but they do have fresh eggs. In the winter they have Christmas trees, wreaths and greens. We got ours there last year and will most likely go again! The wreaths were especially well priced! read more

Love this place. Saw the farmstore sign off 206. Took a chance, and very happy I did. Follow the winding road to the (from the road) slightly run-down looking farm. You'll pass super mellow, happy looking cows and calves. Chickens running carefree. Cats lounging in the front yard of a (up close) not so run-down looking house, with a quaint farmhouse in front of you. You walk in, and you're in an culinary artisan's playhouse. A little boutique of edible delights. I give full credit to them adhering to the true ethics of cage-free and the animals seem cared for and care free. I took one star away, reluctantly, because aside from the cheese, I couldn't find anything produced on the farm. The cheese is bonkers good, and all other items were for the most part locally sourced. It is pricey. But, unfortunately, if you don't want sweatshop chicken eggs, that's just how it is. The products from the farm are great, I would say 4/5 for the products of the farm, and the way the animals were treated is a 5/5. **I'm rating the cheese class I took with my old college room-mates. We signed up for the $70 fresh mozzarella cheese making class. This was an unbelievable rip-off. I would have valued this class, at max $40. Here is the blurb from the website, which I wish I had seen beforehand, but I was not the one that organized the event with my friends: "For years we've taught mozzarella stretching, but now we're starting from scratch! Learn the basics of using rennet to turn milk into cheese in a mozzarella-making demonstration. Then stretch Caputo Brothers curd into your own fresh mozzarella balls. You'll wrap up class with a cheese tasting and comparison between fresh and aged Cherry Grove Farm cheeses, then depart with your fresh mozzarella and our signature class folder full of materials and recipes to use at home." 1. We were given samples of fresh milk to try. This is great, however, the samples were left uncovered on a table and were there when we arrived. There were black things floating in them (most likely flies due to being left uncovered). 2. The person teaching the class was unprepared. She didn't have enough citric acid, nor did she have all the bowls and supplies she needed. She kept asking her helper to grab stuff from the kitchen at the back of the cottage. She also didn't have enough folders with recipes and further reading materials. 3. She kept telling us that we'll learn as we practice, and that we'll learn to improvise. She improvised with apple cider vinegar since she did not have enough citric acid. Even she didn't get her cheese curds to properly form. The point of taking a $70 class isn't to be told to improvise, it's to be clearly instructed to set a good foundation to continue in the future. 4. We were cramped into a tiny non-air-conditioned cottage room, which is fine, but they over booked. We couldn't all see what she was doing at the front of the room. Due to this, we couldn't see what it looked like to form the curds and what to expect as far as texture goes, especially since she didn't have an idea of what the apple cider vinegar equivalent to 1.5 tsp of citric acid should be. 5. There was very little individualized attention. My cheese turned out mushy, my friend's turned out hard. They were frantically trying to get us all enough hot water, which affects the consistency of the mozzarella. Ultimately, for $70, I would expect that there would be less people in the class for a room that size, more individualized attention, better preparation, and more materials. I would even expect for $70 that I would get a chance to try to make my own small amount of curds, even with a partner or two. I can't believe how expensive this was. I truly felt it was a waste of money. As a chemistry teacher, I understand how to scale down experiments to minimize waste, while still having all my students get to experience the lab. I understand how difficult it is to be prepared and have all students learn, and to end up with a good product. But $70 dollars is unbelievable, and I still wasn't happy with the cheese I brought home. If this class was instead 30-40 bucks, this review would be much less harsh. read more

I've never been to the farm itself, but I get their cheese from the Rittenhouse market each Saturday. Their buttercup brie is out of this world! It has enough kick on the rind and the perfect smoothness/creaminess inside to make it irresistible! The only problem is when I get a piece of the brie, it never lasts for more than one sitting since we always devour it. The Maidenhead is also quite lovely. It has a bit of the cheese aroma (aka stink) I love and is very smooth. Lovely on a piece of cracker or alone. Very unique. Made with Flying fish beer. I saw this being carried by DiBruno brothers as well. Overall, if you love Brie, please try the buttercup! It's phenom! I REALLY wanted to like this place, but I'm sorry to say that I was very disappointed. I bought a frozen pork roast, a quart of milk, and a dozen eggs; all three were ridiculously expensive. The pork wasn't bad, but not as good, or as fresh, as the pork I get at Wegmans. Inasmuch as the milk & eggs are concerned, neither were from their farm; the milk was the Trickling Springs brand that Whole Foods & McCaffrey's both sell for less, and the eggs were also a brand you can buy at local supermarkets. I drove onto a farm and walked into their farm store expecting to buy products produced on their farm and was disappointed. It seems that all of the milk produced by their cows is used to make their ridiculously expensive cheese. read more

Long time customer for years. The cheese is excellent. My favorite is Toma. Perfect plain or melted. Just tried the Rosedale. Also excellent. I absolutely love how at home and easy going everything is at Cherry Grove Farm. I love being able to wonder the property, watch the cow milking, friendly staff who are more than happy to answer questions. The animals look clean, healthy, content, and well treated. A wonderful place for children to learn and experience a farm. Oh and the grilled cheese available on Saturdays is one of life's best pleasures - incredible grilled cheese prepared by a chef and eaten on a farm setting with cows grazing?? Love this farm. Meats are local (animals actually reside there). Had trouble two times now finding the entrance into the organic product part of the farm. Actually drove in where I found the sign, but only saw field workers there, having lunch. Will try again next time. Pricey, but good. I got a Griggstown chicken pot pie, large for $22.50, shepherds pie, small for $12.75 (best shepherds pie ever), sirloin steak, 1.52 lb for $25.82. If it weren't so darn expensive!! I really liked this farm. You get to see cows and other animals on your way driving in, and it's extremely close to Princeton University which is great, only about 3.5 miles from Naussau St near Princeton. They do accept credit cards, and have great hours. I come here to get their Havilah hard style cheese which they make on premise, and the lavender honey which they source from another farm which is amazing. Meats are extremely, extremely expensive which is why I haven't tried them. Hope to try some of their meats though when I get a chance. read more
