I have always loved McCaffrey's; excellent meat, conveniently located, etc. I purchased manderains sometime over the past two months and on day two they shriveled to a point that they could not be consumed. I then took a chance and purchased them again today. When peeled they were a very odd bright red color that I have never seen pn a mandarin before. I was afraid to eat them. I disposed of them. I then got out the grape tomatoes that I purchased this afternoon. Most were wrinkled and clearly should not have been sold. McCaffrey's is going to have to step up their produce quality to keep my business. I cannot keep throwing food away. I don't have time to waste returning it either. I barely have time to shop. McCaffrey's should be premium quality. I should not have to inspect everything I take off the shelf. I'm deeply disappointed. read more

In a mash-up with Wegmans and Whole Foods you might get McCaffrey's. However, the better than average produce does very little to compensate for the odd footprint and exorbitant pricing found around every hairpin turn. I like this store but on the rare occasions I stop here it's always for a quick fill-in because six dollar boxes of Raisin Bran and Bitcoin-based dried pasta tends to be a tiny clue that any reasonable semblance of economy is not in their DNA. Everything is clean and nice but these cost-of-entry deliverables are not sufficient to warrant an inconvenient and expensive loyalty. McCaffrey's is clearly a case of a grocer who believes that with affluence comes amnesia. I for one, have a long memory. read more

I'm split on McCaffrey's. I will say the produce is absolutely beautiful and above average but the rest of the items in the store (other than deli) are WAY EXPENSIVE. The ready made foods are good if you're in a hurry but there is never any variety. One note in particular: they offer a salsa verde burrito but there is no GREEN sauce (hello verde!) -- it is red. Still pretty tasty though. Customer service kiosk is fantastic and friendly, yet no one else in the store is. I actually feel that Shop Rite has more variety. So, as I said, I'm split. But for produce and deli and fancy chocolates (and real French bread!) this is the store to go to! read more

I haven't been to a McCaffrey's in a very long time. I remember the one in Princeton many years ago. Well it's on my way to the gym and I had to pick up a few things and I really didn't want to go to "the other store." I forgot how nice they are and the variety this store holds in just about everything. It was very easy to navigate, I found what I was looking for very quickly and some time to spare. So I browsed. I do like the fact that they carry a lot of organic products. The bakery seemed to have a lot of yummy goodies. My main browse was to check out the meat. I did make a mental note that they had certain meats I use on a regular basis, altho the prices were a little steep, once in awhile won't hurt. I love that it is clean, well organized and has a decent amount of different things, like oddball stuff. My only itty bitty gripe is, which I expected going in there were prices they are steep even for basic things. So its a good store to go to if you just need a few things or are looking for specific item you can't get anywhere else. I will stop in for certain meats that they have which is a bonus for me. I didn't get a chance to check out seafood, next time. I also noticed they had so so produce but good in a pinch. It also beats going to Shoprite even if you're picking up just a thing or two. The staff are friendly and quick. Definitely worth a check in or more. You never know what you will find, I think when I go in next time I will browse more thorough and take my time. read more

McCaffrey's is a better supermarket in the Princeton area meaning it's definitely a step up from Shoprite. I like shopping at McCaffrey's. I can get a fair number of keto friendly things I need here. More expensive than some other markets near by, but it's a lovely store and I like their bakery and prepared foods. Very friendly customer service and I'm usually in and out very quickly. This supermarket is not as nice as Whole Foods or Wegmans but a bit better than Shoprite also little more expensive.They also have a good selection of wine, beer and spirits but you have to pay the Princeton high prices! read more

This review is specifically for the bakery department... what an unbelievably horrible first experience in ordering a cake for my daughters 4th birthday party. So many friends had raved about McCaffreys bakery that I was excited to patronize a business in my own town for my daughters birthday party. We had gone in together to order her cake and flipped through the book on the shelf. My daughter excitedly picked out the Ariel "Barbie Cake" (you know, those old school cakes where barbies dress is the cake and an actual Barbie doll is standing in the middle). This was her first real birthday party and she was so excited about her cake. The woman working at the bakery ignored us for a good 5 minutes while continuing to decorate something or work on some other pastries. When I finally got her attention and called her over, there was now a line of 4 people behind us. I pointed to the exact cake we wanted, made sure that we had enough days notice (5 days notice) and I asked if we needed to provide the doll to which she replied "I don't know". Fine, I said "can you please have someone call me if I need to provide a doll" and she said yes since my number and contact information was on the order form. I confirmed a Saturday AM pickup as my daughters birthday was taking place right across the street at Bounce U. Where I take fault in this disaster was by not calling to follow up on our cake myself. I figured, this is what they do for a living and taking cake orders is standard order of business, what could go wrong? But something just didn't sit well. God I wish I trusted my instinct. My husband went to pick up the cake on the way to the party Saturday with the order form in hand. He calls me in a panic as I'm literally AT the birthday party telling me they never made her cake because there wasn't a time written on the sheet. Are you kidding me?!?! No one could call?! You just didn't make it?! Now I'm trying not to panic. My husband calls me back and tells me they are making the cake now and it'll be an extra 15 minutes... you mean to tell me you can magically whip up a Barbie cake in 15 minutes? Again, didn't sit well... but I was literally in the middle of greeting guests and hosting a party so I didn't have time to dwell on it. He eventually shows up to the party flustered and pissed that he missed half the party over this cake saga. It wasn't until we were in the party room that I went over to look at a cake box that didn't look nearly tall enough to fit a Barbie cake to find this sloppy sheet cake with an Ariel figuring knocked over on its side. I debated telling our daughter before we brought it over to sing happy birthday, but instead just brought it over and started singing to see what happened... her face said it all. I was amazed she kept her composure, especially for a 4 year old... but my goodness my heart was just breaking. This is the most polite, kind, and overall just a good kid who deserved her dream birthday cake and you ruined it. Completely ruined it. I hate writing these reviews, especially for a business in my town, but this was unacceptable on every level. If I would have known our custom cake order would have never been made and we'd be given a stale sheet cake decorated in a rush to appease us, we would have just ordered a sheet cake from Costco. The cake honestly should have been free, but even a discount couldn't fix the disappointment we all felt. I truly hope you better train your bakery employees on how to handle cake orders because this all could have been prevented and I hope no one else experiences what we did. read more

We come to McCaffrey's often for their amazing bakery. I find that the bakery items are reasonably priced but most of all, taste amazing! Their cakes are simply the best. We don't really go anywhere else for our cakes. The bakery staff is always friendly and willing to help with any questions, as well as granting our wishes for the best customized cakes! Overall, McCaffrey's is a great grocery store. Everyone is super nice and helpful. The floral arrangements are always so beautiful, the grocery options are fresh, and pre Covid, they used to have food samples around the store! The store is always clean and they've taken Covid precautions really seriously. I love supporting a great local grocery store and think everyone should consider McCaffrey's for their next birthday cake! read more

I was extremely impressed by this grocery store! First, selection-wise, the store had pretty much everything. Like Whole Foods, there were a number of delicious prepared meals (including a shepherd's pie that my wife and I devoured this weekend for dinner!), but unlike Whole Foods, the store also had Coke Zero. Whatever my craving, the store seemed to have it in spades. Even the beer selection was awesome, with tons of bombers and craft beers available. Unfortunately, I guess they charge a premium for making all of that food and drink available, as our bill was significantly higher than I expected. Because of that, I'm not 100% confident that this place will become our one stop shop for all of our groceries, but I'm definitely a fan! read more

Purchase Hot Dog buns for the 4th of July. The buns on top of the bag were completely fine but once we got to the buns on the bottom of the bag, we discovered that they were riddled with mold. As a long time customer I am extremely disgusted and sickened that McCaffreys don't have better quality control over their foods especially during a holiday. read more

When I moved to this area years ago, I was going crazy because there was nowhere to buy good quality (basically, CAB) meat. And then I discovered McCaffrey's in West Windsor. If I am going to eat beef, it's going to be from McCaffrey's, or I just don't eat beef. Then I discovered their bakery when I ordered a sheet cake for a work celebration. It was unbelievable. Everything in these 2 "specialty-type" sections is just unbelievable. Their prices are high, but I'd rather pay more for top quality. I live in Monroe, on the Cranbury border. I would do almost anything to have a McCaffrey's in this area rather than being stuck with Stop&Shop and ShopRite. Both of those are good if you are going for "whatever." I want McCaffrey's. This isn't the lowest priced supermarket, but has great quality foods. They carry many obscure items you may not find in a larger supermarket. McCaffrey's has similar qualities as Wegmans without being as large. Their baked goods and meat sections resemble the old fashioned bakery or old fashioned butcher shop. Many ethnic items as well catering to the local demographic. It's nice to see the little guy still competing and winning. read more

I like McCaffrey's quite a bit. I believe I was at their Yardley location a while ago, but I was in the area and I decided to check this location out. The store I do have to say is very clean, and has a very good selection. It is well priced, and the staff do seem very friendly. It is very easy to find your way around, and the store is a good size. It is a bit crowded of a store, but I went today which was Christmas Eve, so I could kind of see why. I really liked that they sold a lot of other cool other stuff. I don't really see pet food at any other supermarket, and they had it here, which was nice. I didn't need, but I always look at the whole supermarket, even to go in the aisles I don't need I'm weird. The store really does have a good variety, but I really wouldn't say they have anything out of the ordinary. However, it still is a great grocery store. Wish it was kind of closer to me, since I live 30 minutes away. read more

I had to be in Princeton Junction for a few hours waiting for my son to finish a sporting event. I brought a cooler with me thinking that if I can get grocery shopping done as well that would be great. A fellow competitor pointed me to McCaffrey's. I'll be pining for McCaffrey's when I am back home in Cranford shopping at Kings. The prices are not Costco but certainly not unreasonable and that's the price you pay for the pleasant environment. The mix of merchandise felt almost more "curated" then just thrown on the shelf by what the big companies want you to sell. For example: I have been looking for Rao's marinade. Plenty of stores carry the marinara sauce but not the marinade. Kleenex hand towel that comes in a self dispensing box. It's a nice alternative for the guest bathroom. We love the salad dressing when we go out for sushi and McCaffrey's had two really nice ones. Salad greens. They had two big bags of super greens for $5. They consist of spinach, chard & bok choy. This store made me excited about groceries and after 20+ years of running a household that's pretty hard to do. There are four stores in the NJ, PA area. read more

Last week, I ordered one plain and one mushroom pizza pies and Italian sub sandwiches (10 inches) for my daughter's group project dinner. The pizza was 18 inches big and the crust tasted really yummy. But the mushroom toppings were not generous. The sandwiches were tasty with good quality bread. The quality of pizza and sandwich were better than near by pizza and sandwich shops and cheaper. read more

No customer service since renovations! I have been shopping at McCaffreys in West Windsor since they opened, mainly for convenience and quality and for that was willing to pay the premium they charge for their groceries to do so. But for their expensive charge over all other stores in the area, top customer service should be a given. Unfortunately, it seems McCaffrey management has been focused on the re design of their store with customer service becoming non existent. Their new customer check out is the worst of the worst! The baggers assisting cashiers are now gone with self check out offered instead. The cashiers no longer bag your groceries unless asked, and then do so grudgingly with an attitude. I have had them leave my groceries unbagged and proceed to ring up the next customer, leaving my food on the conveyer. After repeated negative check out experiences, I find it best to return to Wegmans, where customer service is still important and they do it with a smile. There is no reason to continue to pay McCaffreys higher prices if they no longer value customer service. It's very sad to see such a great store decline so quickly. read more

MCaffrey's has got the goods people! This high quality, up scale, supermarket has everything from frozen foods, to holiday cards, to a delicious deli and wonderful bakery. If you decide that you're getting a little hungry while you're shopping, stop by their hot food section and pick up a fresh meal. Take it upstairs to their dining area and enjoy a quiet meal before continuing on your way. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and I've never had a problem returning anything or even using expired coupons. This is simply a well-run supermarket stocked with great options. The only reason I couldn't give it a 5-Star rating is because the store is a little pricey. But hey, you get what you pay for. read more

This high end grocery store has everything you need. The prices are above average (overpriced), but the quality of goods and services are too. I come here almost everyday to make Redbox movie rentals and returns (the Redbox is indoors though by the fresh fruit section). I also tend to buy a fruit bowl along with my movies - the fruit is always pre-cut, fresh & perfectly ripened with watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, blueberries, pineapples & grapes! The store itself is extremely clean with modern details, and more accommodations than most normal grocery stores. When this location first opened back in the 90's, I was amazed by its innovative ideas (back then supermarkets didn't usually have two floors, dining areas, buffets, and so on). Most of the workers are professional, polite and helpful, though I ran into one grumpy old lady who was pretty rude! Maybe she had a bad day... Anyways... There's various hot, ready-made food buffets (Chinese, Italian, sushi, etc.) where you can grab a bite to eat to go. Or if you want, you can go upstairs to their large dining area and eat your meal. It's decent tasting food (Americanized), but nothing amazing, and overpriced too. There's also a delicious bakery, where everything is freshly baked and a deli as well. If you're a smoker, McCaffrey's sells cigarettes by the customer service (although it's more pricey than convenient stores - $7+). However, they don't sell cigars. read more

Decent size, not huge but manageable. And a bonus...a nice wine shop attached. We're usually there every other week. One of our best finds since moving to the area eleven months ago. Yes, there groceries are often more expensive, and no, you won't do a full shop here weekly unless price is a complete non-issue. Used to stop by here for lunch often. The hot foods were good, but for the price, definitely not worth it. Sushi wise, you could pay the same amount elsewhere and get much better. The americanized chinese food was pretty decent but everything else was very average. The only good thing about this place is that there is variety. Bought a small cheese steak today and brought it upstairs with my coffee.A little nasty Indian lady who works upstairs kept asking me if I paid for the Coffee. Stopped in on my way home. Supermarket is nice and bright. It's definitely a different feel shopping here than at Shoprite. And although Shoprite is usually cheaper on a number of items, they make up a lot of it in customer service and quality. Tomatoes on the vine were $1.49 a pound. They also have a good selection of seafood and "heat and serve" type dishes. When I checked out, I realized I didn't have a store card, and the cashier was nice enough to run over to customer service to swipe a card for me to get some discounts. read more

I fully appreciate this is a very difficult time both for grocers and their customers. While I note with interest the signs up in their West Windsor store and even their website, to me at least they do not practice what they preach. When waiting on the register line there are two other cashiers on each side of you with their backs probably less than one foot away from you. Other grocers put something like a shower curtain or even close every other register. I asked the manager about this quite calmly telling him this is a very difficult time and he got very defensive and "what do you expect me to close registers"? When I mentioned the store policy about wearing masks and social distancing his reply was "I didn't tell you, you had to wear a mask". I'm sorry but I don't know if I'll be shopping again at McCaffrey's in the future. Not only their practices not insuring their customer' safety but more about how rude the manager was. Again I recognize these trying times but its also the time to be more diligent about their employee and customer safety. I don't know what kind of day the manager was having. Just wanted to acknowledge some outstanding service that my mother received here when she was visiting. Her credit card company had to be called since she was travelling from Texas. The cashier who had a brother who lived in Grapevine Texas was courteous, professional and patient as the card company checked the sale. She then helped my mother out of the store and assisted in putting the bags in the rental my mother was using. My mom raved about how great McCaffrey's was after getting that kind of helpfulness while she was visiting. Good on you! read more

We are staying in this area for a week. We have done all of our shopping at McCaffrey's. In that short time, I've had the cashiers double scan an item three separate times. As a former cashier, you learn to listen for the beeps because that's how you know an item has scanned. Any good cashier knows if they've double scanned immediately. Once I could understand, three times in a week is a little odd. Either they are poorly trained or they simply don't care or they are trained to double charge their customers. I would watch them carefully if I was going to live here. Other than that, I like the store. It's a little pricey on items but I like the variety. I would like more organic options in the produce section but the store seems very well stocked and I liked their meat selections. read more

I ordered 36 cupcakes for a baby shower with a mint green icing. I provided the bakery with coral gum paste flowers to put on the cupcakes. The bakery did an amazing job and accommodated my request to pick them up 24 hours earlier than originally requested. Everyone loved the cupcakes at the shower and commented how pretty and delicious they were. Price was very reasonable too!! Thanks McCaffreys! read more
