I found myself here on a quiet Saturday night after having a meal at The Monkey King next door, and had a really fun time. One really refreshing thing about this spot is that the crowd is mostly poc, at least the night I visited. So many spaces feel pretty homogenous so it's nice to feel safe with my group of mostly poc friends when we go out. The music the DJ played was easy to dance to and our bartender churned out excellent drinks all night. I'm not sure how this spot would be on a busier night, and I haven't seen the cirque du soleil-like act that performs here on select nights-- but on the low key evening I visited I loved this spot that felt like a secret Narnia in Bushwick.

Then you get three gold tokens to give to the various goddess stations in exchange for a craft cocktail with fresh ingredients. Cheap liquor makes my nose run like an allergic reaction and there was NONE of that here which tells me the alcohol they're using was at least low in sulfates so THANk YOU for that During the whole night there are aerial and acrobatic performances. I explained I was a retired school teacher and he said to remind him when I arrived. Once at the theater, I was given a great price and great seats. It is a VERY family friendly show. The finale was to have all the kids come up on stage for a magic trick. The magician was hysterical and the kids couldn't figure out the trick. I would HIGHLY recommend coming here. I don't want to give too much about the play away because I know she will perform it elsewhere but if this is the sort of theater coming out of Cherry Lane, it's a harbinger of good things for the future. The theater itself is quite intimate, with only 16 rows or so. I was near the back and didn't feel like I had to squint to see the performance on stage. Whoever did the set design made very good use of the stage space such that the audience could feel transported into different "rooms" and time zones. Acoustics were pretty good too though I would occasionally miss a part of the dialogue over the sound of the cacophonous laughter in the audience. There is a bar in the front and you can bring drinks into the theater. I wish I could've also checked out Wild Cherry, the restaurant attached to the theater, but it's too poppin right now. Some of the best stars got their start at Cherry Lane and it's lovely that they're drawn to such a place a short subway ride from where I live.

The first thing…read moreI saw were the condoms readily available as I checked in, along with a useful pamphlet on How to Use a Condom (complete with drawings), both of which I hope to need someday. (Already, this was going well.) The theater itself is tiny, and without any amenities. The seats are just chairs lined up on risers. There is neither a concession stand, nor a bar. There IS a tiny little bathroom with a sign that says "No flushing during performance" (the theater is that small), but no sink to wash your hands. Which isn't a big deal for me because...well, look at me: proper hygiene isn't among my priorities. Despite all this (or perhaps because of it), I kind of love it. It's so unabashedly low-budget, and the performance was so brazenly ridiculous. Admittedly, I've only attended the one show at The Brick (so far), so I find it a bit hard to separate the venue from the performance. However, if Flying Snakes in 3D is any indication, this tiny little theater books thought-provoking, amusing, outlandish, avant-garde, FUN productions. They don't follow any rules, and there's something extremely enjoyable about seeing other people enjoy themselves so much on stage. Be warned: This isn't Broadway. Don't come in expecting any traditional sort of theater. I mean, I've never pelted performers with rubber snakes before. At least not during the performance, and at their behest. If you do take a chance on The Brick, as you should, I would just go in with an open mind, prepared to see a show unlike any you've seen previously. Which I think is a good thing.

Or you could spend a fraction of that on some truly original work. An innovative, intelligent, small theater. The work produced here is amongst some of the most trend setting, edge cutting, and experimental to be found in NYC, the U.S., and the world at large. And even better, if you show up to one of the last shows on a Friday or Saturday night, there is almost guaranteed to be a friendly and lively after party thrown in the theater space itself, hosted by the cast and crew. Where else are you going to see my own drunkenly performed karaoke versions of Journey, full length theater pieces about text based adventure gaming, and burlesque numbers performed by gorgeous men and women dressed up as Seven of Nine from Star Trek and Doctor Manhattan respectively, all under one roof? This sort of thing is simply not being done anywhere else. Show up or run the risk of being left in the dust of theater history. A few notes on the space. It only seats in the range of 40-50, so purchase your tickets in advance. If a show is popular, it *will* sell out. If you'd like to be part of the onstage fun, sit in the front row. The performers are on the same level as the first row of seats, and are frequently pulled up into performances. If you're more of an onlooker, head toward the seats at the back.

Juice gets the job done no matter what situations arise. Juice layed back chill and runs around all night to handle every single detail. The theater where the show took place was also nice -- spacious stage, and I was lucky to be right in the middle with a perfect view. There was a screen in the background of the stage where videos were occasionally played introducing the performers. But the surface was textured to a point where it was a strain on the eyes watching it. Otherwise, if there's ever a show you want to see here, check it out.
