I am so glad I convinced the family to make a stop at Cherry Time on our way to Yosemite during Memorial Day weekend. We're from Hawaii and we don't have cherry orchards there, so we were all first-time cherry pickers. We walked far into the orchard before we started picking because the trees in the front didn't have too many cherries in them. We saw people on ladders, so we figure maybe that's how we get to the good cherries. I was more excited to take photos of cherries in the tree than picking the cherries myself because it's so cool to see cherries growing on trees. I did end up picking some cherries myself and contributing into the bag that was provided. The family picked a total of 6.5 lbs. The cherries were $4 per pound and only cash is accepted as payment. When we got back to the car, I gave the cherries a quick rinse and we all started eating. Every single cherry was sweet and juicy. There's a lot of cherry orchards in Brentwood but I picked this place because they kept their Instagram updated. They provided information on inventory, pricing, hours of operation, and stated that no reservations were required. When we got to the location, there are workers directing the flow of traffic, so everything was organized. Porta potties available in the parking lot area. read more

However, if you keep walking to the back, those trees have a lot of cherries that you wouldn't need a ladder for those. The lady in the entrance was really nice too. They are very nice. There's plenty parking. A LOT of cherries! They give you a plastic bag for your cherries but you should bring your own bucket if you want one. Bring water, sunscreen, sunglasses. They have ladders to help reach higher cherries. Important notes on the cherries: they are small in size and the seed is pretty small and breaks easily if you bite it. So just don't bite too hard. Spring means U-Pick fruit season and there's nothing better than taking the family to Brentwood to pick cherries off the trees. Cherry time is right off of Walnut so it's easy to get to, and though they may not have the expansive varieties that other farms have, they are loaded with sweet dark red Coral Champaign's and Brooks. We arrived at 8:45 and were one of the first 10 cars in the lot so no traffic and no problems parking. Tips for Brentwood Cherry Picking 1. Check online or call to see what is ripening and plan your trip accordingly. 2. Get there at opening to beat the traffic, get good parking, and nab the best fruit. 3. Bring water to wash and taste fruit (if allowed). 4. Pick the edges and the corners for best fruit. 5. Bring Cash The workers at the front of CherryTime were all the teen children of the farm owners, and they were helpful and courteous, and polite. The farm had good ladders all around and the grounds were well kept. Some of the best cherries were high up so be ready to climb. Pro Tip - Even though everyone knows that you have to go to the far ends to get the best cherries, some of the very best were back along the parking lot and (believe it or not) near the port-a-potties, though on the other side of the fence! (will leave this for your judgement). Fun with the workers - I asked our wonderfully friendly Bloomfield daughter if they tared (zeroed) the bucket before weighing and she said "Yes" they did. I was having fun since there was so much Yelp conversations on the bucket tare subject. Then I told her I estimated that my empty bucket weight would be 1.81 lbs. Their jaws dropped and they were all amazed when the scale read 1.81 lbs exactly. One empty bucket weighed in 1.82 lbs and I told them it was because of the bag. I didn't tell them that I read the bucket weight in another Yelp review (Ya Yelp!) But they were all impressed .... I had $53 in cash in my pocket and the total bill came to exactly $53. So the 15 lbs of freshly picked cherries will make for some nice treats, cobblers, and pies this week. CherryTime May be my new favorite cherry farm. read more

Stop! It's Cherry Time! Cherry Time is just one of a roughly twenty-five U-pick cherry farms that dot the eastern half of Contra Costa County where the soil is rich in nutrients and the sun is blazing out loud for stone fruit such as peaches, apricots and cherries can truly thrive. Cherry picking by your hands is something that is super popular mainly because of the cost and ease as the whole family no matter the age or ability can participate. We picked Cherry Time because we knew they were open till early evening on the holiday Monday in which we went and they were easily accessible as they were easy to find among all of the other cherry picking farms, had plenty of ample parking, and even had plenty of portable toilets with portable sinks and paper towels adjacent to their parking lot to boot, which tells you that they are used to hosting a large amount of people. Since we arrived on a late Monday afternoon, the sun was really high and heat was at its peak. Parking, although full, was manageable as the line to get access to the cherry trees was quick and easy as everything was under a portable outdoor tent. One of the hosts at Cherry Time made sure to tell everyone to grab a bucket if you were picking their cherries and you were to pick from the odd rows of trees (i.e. one, three, five and so on) to the right of us as their property is vast and picking from those trees proved more plentiful. As we started walking towards the orchard of trees, we noticed a sign explaining the orchard rules, which were the standard stuff such as you pay for what you pick, clean up after yourself, and don't climb on the trees, but the last rule, which seemed almost tacked on at the last minute was that they were a cash only operation. What was nice was that they gave you the types of cherries they grow at Cherry Time, including brooks, champagne corals, and royal tiogas. Now I'm not a cherry expert so I don't know how to tell them apart, so some sort of signage in the orchard explaining which cherry was grown on this tree would have been nice as all of the cherries looked the same to me. The first thing we noticed when we got to the orchard was that their ladders that provide customers the ability to pick from the highest point in their trees weren't that plentiful themselves as you really had to search for them in the back of their fields, and they were industrial style ladders so carrying these heavy ladders in the heat among all of the brush that was in the farm was a real challenge. Once we did manage to get our hands on a ladder, our group focused ourselves in one row and found an abundance of trees that were plentiful with cherries, especially the ripened dark cherries grown on the top of the trees, which of course that ladder came in quite handy. But as the heat crept up on up with all of us being exposed to the rays of the sun with not much protection, we all started to get tired and eventually after an hour, wrapped up our tree picking adventure. I do wish they accepted credit cards at Cherry Time as that would make paying a lot more easier, but thankfully others in my party had cash on them and it only cost about 28 dollars for our bucket that was about three quarters filled. Would a return visit to Cherry Time be in order? Honestly there are so many other options, many with equally crowded and loyal clientele that a trip all the way out to Brentwood just for Cherry Time's cherries would be pushing it, but knowing that it's even here readily available for our cherry picking desires still makes me happy that sometime in the year is Cherry Time! read more

Review #083 - 2020 I came across their event posting on Facebook saying that they were having their "grand reopening" for the cherry picking season on Wednesday, May 6th, from 9 AM to 5 PM. We showed up at around 4 PM & there were still about two dozen cars parked out front so we were glad that we weren't the last ones there. The process was pretty straight forward. They gave us a big bag to put our cherries in. We were required to keep our masks on due to COVID-19; but, sadly, there were a few families that didn't follow that rule. Always a few of those that will mess it up for everyone else. I was pretty disappointed that we didn't have much to choose from. Even though we showed up late, but being it was the first day, it shouldn't have run out so quickly. We did manage to get about 3.5 lbs by the end of our pickings, but they were mostly on the sour side. Good thing my daughter likes sour. At $3.50/lb, it was pretty fairly priced and the most important thing was that my daughter had fun, even though we were dying in the 88° heat. Before entering the farm you are greeted and given a few housekeeping rules to obey. Buckets are lined with bags, we were pointed in the direction to the trees for cherry picking. Bathroom: porter potty's and hand washing station are located in the parking lot. Next weekend may be the last weekend they are open for the season, per one of the employee. Came here two days ago (Wednesday after Memorial Day). Arrived around 11am and had no issues parking whatsoever. Picked up a bucket and was on my way. I'd suggest going to the front of the orchard and snag a ladder to bring with you. I walked up and down from the front to back of the orchard and found the most success higher up in the front trees. I was able to pick nearly 13 pounds of cherries in about 45mins!! ($3.50/pound) I've been to a few other farms, but this place has the best tasting and juiciest cherries. I picked Brooks cherries. They will also be opening different trees in a few weeks, I suggest calling ahead. They have a pre-recorded message with the latest information on the current pickings. Tips: - wear closed-toed shoes that you don't mind getting dirty - make sure you check the "bottom" of the cherry because sometimes they crack and those mold very quickly - go to the bathroom before arriving, the port-a-potties get pretty bad after a busy weekend read more

Arrived here on Saturday, July 6 2019, right when they opened. The lady at the entrance explained how there were ladders that we could use if we wanted to get the cherries at the top of the trees, that there were tree that haven't been touched in the back, as well as the price ($3.50/ lb). There were a lot of buckets ready with plastic bags inside them so that we could just place the cherries inside them. Just like the lady said, the back trees had a lot of cherries still on their branches, and they were very sweet! Everyone had a good time picking cherries, and we were able to get 10 lbs of it. Although they had only one type of cherries (Bing cherries, i believe), it was still a fun experience! read more

So I came for Memorial Day with my family, and I was very disappointed in the fact that they didn't let me in because I had a big jug of water. It was really hot and they told me that I couldn't wash my cherries or have drinking water in their farm. They told me that it was their policy that you couldn't bring in water to wash your cherry's but you can eat them right off the trees. That is very insane. Or if you needed a drink of water because the weather was really hot, you couldn't they must want somebody to die in their farm. There's other farms around the area where they let you eat all the cherries you want and wash your cherries. Why you spend family time. I would recommend not to come to this farm save your time a headache. read more

Three stars does not mean that I disliked the place, because I did not. It was quite an enjoyable day and I like that this place is open a little longer than its competitors. On the plus side, they also had some great peach and apple trees, but what negates it is that we weren't allowed to go pick them. Both my husband and I noticed separately that when they weigh the cherries at the end for payment, they do not tare the scale to adjust for the weight of the bucket. So, you essentially pay for approximately an extra half-pound of weight, which is dead weight. A mixed bag here, and most of the good cherries had been picked out by the time we got here (no points deducted because I understand that the season varies from year to year and they have no control over it). Still, despite a few shortcomings, I would come back here because we were impressed with the quality of the cherries that we were able to find. Sweet, firm, and scrumptious. read more

I was determined to take my kids here for U-pick during the short-lived Cherry season, as we missed it last year. We went at the beginning of May and it was a great activity to do as a family, especially with a limited amount of businesses/things to do during Shelter in Place. The branches are low enough to the ground that even very little kids can help pick cherries and join in. The price was $3.50/lb, which is way cheaper than any price of cherries I have seen in store. Even on sale, cherries have been running at $4.99/lb and up, so if you just go to restock your produce, it's worth it. Make sure you check the hours of operation, since it appears business is only open during peak harvest. We will definitely be back next summer. read more

Um. lets talk about FRESH cherries for a minute. They are amazing. Not like the ones from the store. I like my cherries to have a crunch to them when I bite into them, no soft mushiness thank you. Thats what I found here. Crunchy cherries for miles (ok maybe not miles, but still) waiting to go into my bag so that I could go home and feast on their deliciousness. To top it off, the cherries here were BIG. None of those dinky cherries at some of the other farms... and plenty of parking... granted you come at a early hour (have you seen those CRAZY LINES, no thank you). Oh and there were ladders everywhere for me to pick those cherries that thought they were safe. Good thing I serenaded them before hand and let them know they were going to a good home...aka my tummy later. Oh and remember not to drop the cherries...nothing is sadder then seeing a cherry fall to the ground and getting a gash. read more

Went past Livermore on 580 and north on Vasco Road. Missed their 9a opening by a half hour on the first day of Memorial Day Weekend because of heavy traffic on the two lane Vasco Road. Even so, I've been in a lot worse traffic jams. Cherry Time appears to be the first pick-your-own orchard off of North Vasco Road on Walnut Boulevard that you'll come across. They flag you into their parking lot which is not dusty because it's totally covered with a really thick layer of wood chips. You'll either drive or walk past a series of portable toliets in the parking area, which are the only ones around, so be advised. You walk to their entrance and grab a single five gallon plastic bucket with handle and lined with a big plastic garbage bag, and head into the orchard. Everyone is so excited to pick cherries, the trees closest to the entrance are pretty much picked over. Take a few minutes and get as far away from the entrance as you can. You'll run into trees with bunches of cherries and some overripe cherries. Grab a ladder on the way out to the edges of the orchard. Lots of cherries have been split open but the cherry has healed the split over. Looks imperfect, but tastes just as good. Just make sure there's no mold growing in the opening. Lots of big cherry trees, so lots of shade. I ended up taking off my sunglasses to get a better look at the target cherries. Still, there's no harm in wearing a hat and sunscreen in Brentwood. No water to drink. Try to remember where you entered the orchard because that's where you'll leave. You'll line up to have your bucket weighed and they're careful to note that the scale has already subtracted the weight of the bucket. 3/4 of a bucket was about $60 worth of your carefully hand-picked cherries. Cash only and they mean it. They'll give you an extra bag so when you carry your double-bagged cherries back to your car, the bag won't split open. All the employees seem very young and act like they've been working there every summer and have seen everything, and given the popularity of Cherry Time, they probably have. Next time, I'll try to beat the traffic and get there at their 9a opening. read more

Message to the two previous reviewers who complained about including the bucket weight in the price: you are completely incorrect. If you had just taken a look at the scale - the display is there for anyone who can read numerals - you'll see that the scales are tared to account for the bucket AND the plastic bag that the cherries are weighed in. Sheesh, people. Anyways, on to the experience. We came here on the first day of the Memorial Day weekend. Getting here was half the trouble, as the traffic moved slowly all the way from the South Bay, but on the narrow road from Livermore it was particularly molasses-like. As we approached Cherry Time, we were apprehensive at first because we could see that the parking lot was packed. However, we didn't have any trouble finding a place to park, and then made the stroll to the entrance. The friendly folks and the front gave us a quick orientation and we were on our way. It was great fun going up and down the seemingly endless rows of trees looking for those perfect cherries. The kids in our group were eager to get started at trees close to the start, and I didn't think we'd have much luck since the crowds were substantial, but in fact we would ample amounts of ripe, intact cherries without having to delve deeper into the 10 acres that were open during this visit. Yes, we sampled some directly off the trees and discovered that these were truly delicious. It didn't take our group of 13 long to amass at least 20 lbs of cherries. There are reportedly 150 ladders scattered throughout the orchard, but we weren't able to snag one because all the ones we saw were in use by others, but it didn't matter because we found plenty within easy reach. Checkout was a breeze, and I'll say it again: they don't charge you for the weight of the bucket that sits on the scale. At $3.50/lb it's hard to beat, especially since you're getting that fresh-off-the-tree-and-not-trucked-to-Costco taste. However, I probably spent about $20 on gas getting to and from here. Still worth it. One minor recommendation: during these busy days, it would be nice for the port-a-potties to get a little bit of service a couple times a day. They could have used a quick wipe down and the sinks were completely drained of water when we were there. read more

First of all, Cherries are extremely bad and small, none of the trees are looking good. But ok, because of the long distance, I accept the quality. But besides this, I have experienced a very bad costumers service. I drove from SF to get here just for a fun day, long distance driving took me for 1hour and 38 mins, so we planned to take a test a rest under the cherry tree, so I took a card board and a little ice cream into the farm. No one telling me foods are not allowed. I sat down for like not even 3 minutes, a worker came to us and tell us foods are not allowed and we are not able to seat anywhere around in the farm. Well, it is understandable for food restrictions, but I don't think seating is a big deal. The weather is extremely hot, how come people do not have the right to even find a place to seat? I would not recommend this bad place. If y'all want, you can just go to the farm next to this, called Chavez U- Pick Cherries, with the best consumer services and giving you the best direction on finding the biggest and sweatiest cherries. Seat, foods are allowed and even anything you can do! Lastly please Fix your policy to avoid wasting people's time. Neither the quality of the fruits, nor the services are good. I went to this farm twice this month for cherries, which tells you just how much I loved the cherries here. Parking was ample (come early at opening for the best weather and less crowds), port-a-potties were decent, and staff was friendly - they let us go in with our reusable bags instead of the buckets and garbage bags for eco-friendliness. The cherries are big here - the second time I came out to Brentwood for cherry picking, I went to another farm (they didn't have Rainiers here), but the cherries at the (unnamed) farm we went to were small, already starting to head towards overripe. We picked a small bunch of Rainiers, and then came back to Cherry Time for pounds and pounds of large, crunchy, perfect cherries! read more

DO NOT COME TO THIS ORCHARD!!! There are so many other wonderful ones and this one is awful! The employees here are very rude and inconsiderate. They don't have signs for their "rules" and are not at all accommodating when you come from far out of town and didn't know the rules because they aren't posted. We came for the weekend with our dog and wanted to pick cherries here. There is no signs saying you can't have dogs. We had her in a stroller. No access to the outside or ability to cause any issues and she yelled at us informing us we couldn't come in. If you have rules, you have to post them. I bring my dog in the stroller to every grocery store and everywhere I go without any issues. I've never been treated like they did here. Another thing negative about this place is there are like no cherries...had to walk at least a half mile before getting to any cherries. read more

We visited this place on the first day of their opening for 2018 season. Ample parking space. Less crowded probably due to first day. Quality of cherry was very good. Not sure why they included bucket weight which is almost half pound, not a big deal though. Toilets were very dirty and could have been maintained properly.
