We came here for two nights. We almost missed where to turn because the tree is covering up the sign. We got checked in right away. First impressions it's very cute. Our room was clean and we loved the beautiful views of the water. Prefect spot for a little get away. We read outside on the beach chairs, you could tell they cleaned outside the daily. We didn't get in the inside or outside pool and hot tubes but they looked great. They serve breakfast in the morning but unfortunately I was too tired to get up to check it out but they always had water and coffee available and cookies. read more

This hotel is too old and antiquated. Some of the room outlets don't work , the air conditioner is the old style and the room does not cool down enough and it smells. The room cleaning service leaves a lot to be desired, they only change towels, they will not make your bed and do not change the bed linens. The breakfast is pretty bad---tasteless. The beach side is okay but very small, other hotels on this stripe have longer beach access. The indoor pool is nice and heated but the outdoor pool is not heated, and they do not have a changing room or showers at either pool sides. They charge too much for what the hotel has to offer. Buyer be ware, they charge an additional 5 % regardless of what your final purchase price is and we paid extra for a lake view but got a bunch of trees blocking our view. I wouldn't even give 1 star if it was an option, not only was the room not satisfactory but was totally misleading with "Mountain View." Mountain View " is a view of the roof line with a pidgeon hanging out waving at us like..."Hey!" and if you're a" "dreaded smoker" don't smoke anywhere I mean anywhere other than the" Designated Smoking Area even if you're the only one around!!! Even when campfire burning beside the area... seriously, this place "Coild" be nice but out of touch millennials make it not user friendly for Gen X and older...Good luck y'all if you decide to spend up to and above 1500+/week for a week here! We've been going to Cherry Tree for years but their prices are ridiculous. I called to ask why prices went up $500 from the previous year I was told prices just went up. Although when looking on Expedia the price was $200 cheaper still steep from the previous years. We won't be back. Many other resorts to chose from. The hotel was very pretty! The workers were as sweet as pie! At one point I had to sleep on the floor because only 3 beds, and I have 4 family members besides me. The pool was amazing loved jumping in! Hot coco was amazing. (I put a lot of cream packets in it jk 2) Breakfast was yummy! Even my older brother enjoyed it and he was injured! (He dislocated his knee cap playing indoor baseball at home) The lake was amazing! We sat by the campfire when the sun was setting! Stayed here for the first time in January with family, and we had a really nice experience! My sister and I registered for a snowshoe race, and this was the host for lodging for the event. Upon check-in we were promptly greeted, and the gentleman at the counter was very friendly and helpful. Our room was a suite, and it was so spacious!! It felt quite clean, and was nice and open. The front room was a tad on the dimly lit side, but was still a nice space. There were only 2 of us in the room, but being winter we had a lot of larger boots, coats, and other winter gear with us so it was nice to have the extra space. I also brought plenty of snacks and a few gallons of water. It was nice to have the mini fridge for my snacks, and the counter space for the water. The bathroom was pretty large, and was clean. The lighting was also a bit dim, which can be challenging when trying to do makeup. I ended up doing mine in the mirror in the bedroom since there was a ton of natural light. There was a patio off the bedroom with a great view over the water, but since we were there in January we didn't go out on it at all. My sister and her family had also booked the same size suite as us, though when they checked in they were given a room with 2 queen beds that would've been large enough for 2 people, but small for a family with 2 kids. Fortunately our mom also had a suite, so she just switched rooms with them. I'm not sure how the staff would've handled it if we didn't have that option amongst ourselves. We all used the pool and hot tub, and thought it was clean enough. I was surprised to see the hot tub so empty during a winter weekend! The kids had a blast playing in the pool. I was up too early for the race to enjoy the breakfast on our first morning, but did get some on our last morning and thought they had a really good selection. There were plenty of options for adults, as well as food that the kids liked as well. I also appreciated that they had coffee, tea, and hot water in the lobby 24/7. It was a cold weekend and we went through a good amount of tea! I'm not sure what it's like in the summer months, but we had a really nice stay for our weekend, and I look forward to staying there again for the snowshoe race weekend next year! read more

Just finished our fourth stay at Cherry Tree Inn and Suites and unfortunately, when vacationing in TC, we will look elsewhere. We stayed in one of the largest suites and immediately were grossed out by the stains on the carpet. I had received a text from "Ivy" that if we need anything just text! I did, regarding the carpet dirt and stains and never received a response. I called the front desk who had a long story about how they know about the stains, have unsuccessfully tried to clean them and are waiting for the okay from upper management to get the carpets professionally cleaned. Apparently, upper management is taking their time. The room cost us $460.00 per night and it is overpriced for the quality of the room despite having been renovated in the last three years. To be sure, the room is large but the furnishing are cheap. There are plently of towels and the kitchenette is nice. On our second night, there was a workmen working on the suite above us at 8 pm; drilling, sawing and it was loud. I went to speak to the employee at the front desk who assured me she would take care of it and call me. At 9 pm, I returned to the front desk and again complained that he was still working (was suposed to stop at 5 pm). Finally, shortly after 9 pm, he left. The front desk person was helpful and frustrated as I was. Although, I'm not sure as a customer, I want to hear from an employee that she is busy and the only one there. I just want my issues addressed effectively and maybe she can approach management about staffing issues. At this point, I am willing upon our return to TC, to try a different hotel. read more

I recommend upgrading your stay to the Lake Michigan Suite - we loved it!! Great view overlooking the water, but our king bed was so hard I slept on the sofa. When taking a shower the water pressure dropped and was only cold water. I talked with maintenance and front desk, which said an outside company came in to do maintenance at 10 am near check out time. Staff was accommodating by waiving the resort fee. We went to this hotel on the Bay in Traverse City a few years ago and loved it. It was summer. So we thought, when we wanted to go back, of course we would stay here. What a disappointment. We got a corner Suite so the balcony would wrap around. A nice living room with a fireplace, master King room with door to balcony also, Jacuzzi and breakfast. The room was nice, not spectacular as they said they had redone the hotel. Old furniture. But too excited to notice at first. Our trip was for rock hunting and lighthouses. The first night we brought our very comfortable folding rocking chairs up to the balcony, went outside to have a drink and enjoy the Bay view, and spiders.....everywhere. You could not sit out there. In the morning we let the front desk know and was told well, we do a have a little swamp area out front so you're going to get spiders. (Almost $300 a night for room) She said she would send someone up to sweep them off the balcony and if they came back they would send someone the next day. OK....the breakfast was very good all mornings and Laura/Laurie made it even better. Great service and made sure everyone was taken care of and the food was hot. The coffee was Traverse City coffee and very good. We got back to our room that night and no one had been in our room or out on the balcony. So, no balcony for the rest of the trip. We were there 4 days, 3 nights. Was very shocked that the whole time we were there, no one cleaned or entered our room. (PS don't forget to read that piece of paper they give you when you check in) This was in September, just a week ago. Won't stay there again nor will we recommend it as we did before. We enjoyed our stay. Our room was spotless and had a tremendous view of Grand Traverse Bay from our balcony. From the moment we checked in until we checked out, we were treated outstandingly. I would like to single out one employee in particular. Laura, the woman in charge of the breakfast room. The food could not have been better. She kept the area super clean. All of those are important in a stay. But what Laura gives her guests cannot be simply stated. She is the perfect person for the job. Laura makes it a point to speak with all the guests. In doing so, she makes everyone not only feel special but almost like family. Whatever the hotel is paying for her is not enough. My wife and I will stay at the hotel during our next visit to Traverse City, all thanks to the treatment we received from Laura. read more

Oh Cherry Tree what happened to you? I realize that Covid has brought about a slew of changes but when you take away in room and property amenities but keep exorbitant room prices it's a bit disheartening. For almost $300 per night we were hoping for and quite frankly expecting a lot more. Don't tell me you can't put pens and paper in the room because of Covid but yet we're using the same roll of toliet paper as the last guests? Can't have the lovely spa water in the entrance hallway or cookies at the front desk but the hot breakfast bar is open? No in-room robes (even for the rooms with the in-room jacuzzi) because of Covid, but no problem washing the towels daily (did you not wash the robes before?) To their credit the front staff did what they could when I brought up my concerns, they sent up a carpet cleaner to get the gross stain off the floor (which then meant our suite smelled like cleaning chemicals not sure which was worse honestly) Not fixed though was our King bed that had support issues in the middle which meant I was rolling downhill all night. The fireplace timer was louder than my grandma's ancient kitchen egg timer and the fire danced schizophrenically to the tick tick tick.. (why not invest in a remote unit and eliminate the need for a timer?) then when it's done you endure another 5 minutes of weird bangs emitting from the fireplace (not romantic) The housekeeping team had the room clean, it was just so run down.... We were so excited to visit for our 20th anniversary and it was a tremendous letdown. But I mean you did give us $20 off and 1 bottle of water, 1 package of popcorn and 1 package of snack pack cookies so I guess that's something.... read more

Cherry Tree Inn? More like Poopy Tree Inn. After a long adventurous roadtrip with no bathroom breaks, we arrive at the hotel and unpack. Our friend goes to use the bathroom and flushes it before use to make sure there are no sitting germs from the past user. Its a good thing she did this, because when she flushed the toilet and poop came up. Ew what the heck. We were absolutely horrified at looking at someone else's poop which we named Verruca. We had to call the plumber and convince him it was not ours because no one had any peanuts in the last few days. After a long day on the town we needed to get some rest. We pull open the sheets and find some mysterious stains on the bed. Because of the brownish hue, we concluded that the stain was probably produced by the same culprit who produced Verruca. Yuck! After a long nightmare filled sleep, we went to go have breakfast. Yum! After that we went to go look at the pool because we brought our swimming suits. Its safe to say we did not end up putting our suits to use because the pool was yellow and cloudy. This usually means there is a lack of chlorine, which provides a perfect habitat for bacteria and germs. This freaked us out. We came to the conclusion that this hotel was unsanitary but the plumber came to our room fast and exterminated Verruca quickly. Thats all! read more

Stains all over the carpet, food crumbs on the floor in multiple spots, broken toilet seat, no screen door, no USB ports for electronics and broken outlets in the lamp next to the bed. Room has not been cleaned in 3 days, garbage piling up everywhere in our room. Breakfast beyond disappointing. Didn't even have orange juice the other day. Tiny table barely big enough for 2 people. Beach was decent at least and lobby was nice and had some snacks for purchase. Overall VERY disappointed for how much it cost us to stay here for 3 nights. Not worth the money. read more

We did have a balcony, but didn't use it because of all of the spiderwebs out there and the pillows for the bed were pretty awful. We came through TC and needed place to stay last minute. We came across this hotel and it had availability . It was NASTY! The room was extremely old and run down. The bathroom had lights that weren't working. The fan had so much dust in it, it looked as if it was never dusted. The towels they gave us even looked extremely old. We went by the out door pool and someone had thrown up by the side of the pool. EEEEWWWW!!!! The beach area was nice but that was about it. The hotel needs a lot of work. I waited two years to write this, because I wanted more time under my belt to give a fair and honest reading of my experience at Cherry Tree Inn & Suites across two separate visits. The first transpired last year during a state-spanning tour of Michigan with my in-laws and my wife. We were curving along the corner, keeping to the coast, when the teasing possibility of dipping our toes - testing the waters, if you will - into Traverse City came up. We had no reservations, and were running low on energy reserves, but thankfully the helpful Cherry Tree staff found a way to accommodate us with lodging. Moreover, I spoiled my wife by upgrading to an open luxury suite, replete with in-glass mirror television and a beautifully large walk-in shower and Jacuzzi bath. We were so smitten with it that I decided, then and there, to book a visit for next year. So here we are, on the back end of that second promised visit, this time in honor of our wedding anniversary. We even booked the same room with their assistance. It was lovely, large, and comfortable as ever, with a breathtaking view of the water lapping across the on-site beach, stretching off into the horizon of the bay. Going to bed to the sound of waves lapping, or reading in the comfort of the warm gas fireplace, made the entire endeavor worth it. It's also located down the street from all the major shopping and eating areas, and that was extremely enjoyable as well. We made a weekend of it, and their free shuttle service - which not enough people take advantage of! - got us there and back safe and quickly. I just want to thank everyone involved in operating this fine establishment that you gave me a wide breadth of memories to look back upon fondly. I look forward to many more seasons and visits to come. read more

Honestly, it is hard to find a place to start this review. I am tempted not to review because of the old saying about not having anything nice to say...but I really don't want anyone else wasting their money at this terrible location in such a wonderful city. We recently stayed at this property with our family of 4. 2 adults and 2 kids. We love T.C. and read through many reviews before selecting this location. We are shocked at how well this place is reviewed compared to our own experience. Many people talk about cleanliness at this location, but that could not be any farther from the truth. Everything seemed to feel and appear dirty and dingy and run down. Especially the common spaces. Luckily the rooms seemed to be only slightly more attended to with regard to cleanliness, but still far from great. We also were okay in paying the relatively high price that is required here, because we were hopeful that the amenities would be worth it. However, the pools were not well maintained, the hot tubs seemed dirty with a hint of yellow/brown color to the water, the poolside bathroom was very, very dirty and uncomfortable to be in, there was a mouse running around the outside pool, the beach never seemed attended to, the seating areas in the lobby were dull and uninviting, the hotel shop was underwhelming to say the least, the lobby and staircases reeked of smoke, the breakfast was not good (we left for breakfast even though it was included), the staff did not act welcoming and did not seem eager to help the customers with anything. The fridge in our room died in the middle of the night causing all of our food to spoil and have to be thrown out. They were very difficult in acknowledging this and made it difficult to get reimbursed for the lost food. We felt like prisoners in this hotel. This made it very hard to enjoy a family trip. The general staff including the GM, Arrow, seemed uninterested and rude. Nothing was good. It is sad that this place is so expensive and so well reviewed (it seems that many of these reviews are fake/planted) PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!! read more

Our family's first vacation in Traverse City with our 9 month old. We stayed in the Mackinac suite with a water view. Checking in was quick and easy and the staff was friendly. Our room was spacious, very clean and updated. The view from our balcony was amazing! Free breakfast was nice and the gentleman running the breakfast area was very friendly and has great customer service skills. Great outdoor pool, indoor pool and hot tub and the beach is fantastic. We called at about 3:00 on a Sunday afternoon to get a room for the night (kind of an impromptu extra night on our trip)...and i am glad we chose this place!!! We asked them if they do military discounts, which they do, but what was better than the discounted room was that there was a little 'gift bag' (water, popcorn and a voucher for a free movie or game, along with a patriotic balloon) in our room that had a note that said: "Thank you for your honor and valor you've given to our country and communities. You are always in our thoughts and prayers and we wish you wonderfully relaxing stay in our hotel. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask." How thoughtful and sincere was this??? It made me want to cry! There is nothing more that i love more than when people acknowledge and appreciate our military members. Now on to the other awesome things about this place : 1.) AMAZING views of the bay/beach 2.) Free shuttle to and from downtown and the casinos 3.) Free breakfast (which was pretty decent, not the crappy free breakfasts) 4.) Coffee, Tea, and chocolate chip cookies available in the lobby 24 hours (and they have a chocolate cherry coffee) 5.) Rooms were decent size with plenty of room 6.) This whole place is super clean 7.) The staff was SO nice and friendly AND WARM! 8.) Pool and hot tub inside AND outside 9.) They have conference rooms available 10.) Little kitchenettes in each room 11.) When they give you your keys, it's in a little packet with a ton of coupons to use on places in town 12.) A bucket of umbrellas at the front door 13.) Also, I've been to a lot of hotels in the area on the bay/beach and this place has the best beach area around. It's not weedy or grassy, or rocky. My family was very disappointed with this hotel. Our microwave oven did not work and the Manager, Erin blamed us for "unplugging " the microwave. This was not true at all. We had to give our food to the kitchen staff to warm up. The pool are was very loud and small kids were throwing around a football which hit a young family with a toddler. One of my favorite hotels in TC! Gorgeous beach and views. Make sure to get a room facing the water, it's totally worth it! The outdoor beach area is great! They have an outdoor pool/hot tub area and a 24 hour indoor pool/hot tub! This place is definitely family friendly but we've also enjoyed romantic getaways here too. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The rooms are always very clean and updated. The only negative I can even think of honestly is the breakfast options, the choices are very limited. This is a great gem of a hotel. Prime location with a beautiful beach area. The room was large with an enormous remodeled bathroom. Our only issue was that we were in an interior room with a window looking into the indoor pool. Upon expressing our concerns, front desk told us no other rooms were available & they assured us that although the pool was open 24 hours, quiet time was "strictly enforced". Our first night was great, quiet and uneventful. Not the case for the remaining evenings. The windows are not sound proof! There were large, noisy groups, adults and kids of various ages. We called and requested that they talk to the groups. Close to 2 hours before it got quiet (around 1:45am). It was rough trying to get to sleep after being frustrated and making multiple calls to the front desk. One suggestion, the hotel should close the pool at 12:00; especially when guests are in the interior rooms. Saves frustration of guests in the pool and the rooms. read more

We took a trip to Traverse City just Tuesday with our two grandchildren. We booked this hotel because of the high star status and reviews. I hate to write a negative review but I felt compelled because we were disappointed! Staff was amazing and kind, breakfast was great but the hotel itself was dirty. Real dirty! They had two pools. The outside was good but the inside pool was disgusting. Along with the hot tub. The pool outside was cold but we had the kids (3 and 5) only swim there because the indoor pool was super cloudy and smelled awful of chemicals. We will definitely not return. We paid $400 dollars for one night and were bummed with the hotel quality. Only gave two stars because of the two positives. read more

Super thin walls, we might as well have shared a room with the ppl and they're many loud kids cause we could hear everything as if they're standing in our room...and rooms needs updating bad. Couldn't use the outside hot tub cause there wasn't enough water and the smell was horrendous, not sure what it was. TV was only a 32 inch.. for as much as you pay for these rooms they are not what you'd expect. We didn't even have headboards, so pillow kept falling behind the bed. The beach is small but clean and well-groomed and features comfy faux-Adirondack chairs, a big wooden play boat for kids, and loads of toads (!) after nightfall. This is really pretty cool. If you are herpetephobic, it helps to remember that toads are amphibians, not reptiles. We had a bay view and it was wonderful. The full hot breakfast was really good. It isn't just heated, previously frozen breakfast foods. My family loves this place. My son would be happy to move into the lobby and live off the free coffee urns that are out 24 hours. We stayed in the Cherry Tree Family Suite, which was bigger than many homes we've seen. 2 bedrooms with king beds, big living room, 2 bathrooms...we were so comfy, it was hard to motivate ourselves to get out and head downtown. The dining table has cute chairs with cherry backs. There's an island with sink, garbage disposal, dishwasher, full fridge, stove, dishes & pans. You could live there. 3 tvs. Pool & hot tub were a welcome respite in a cold April. Staff was really helpful, and when there had been a mix up in my reservation a few weeks ago due to a computer glitch, the manager was terrific in helping me straighten out the mess it created. We chose this adorable spot to spend a couple days away. The view was breathtaking. Nothing beats waking up to the sound of waves crashing into the shore. We had a jacuzzi and fireplace in our room, which was super relaxing. We ventured out to the mall and dinner but other than that we just relaxed in our room. Totally worth it! read more
