I have to say, when my husband suggested this place I was kind of weary about staying here based on the pics it looks like it hasn't been updated since the early 2000s. Now that our trip is over, I can say for a short trip to Traverse it's really all you need. They provide a comfortable condo, with a very spacious walk out balcony which is accessible via the bed room and living room. The room is near front with beautiful views of Lake Michigan. You can easily walk out onto the beach and relax on the lounge chairs provided. You have a living room with tv, kitchen, utensils fridge. Bedroom has a tv, bathroom with heated floors, toiletries, & separate make up area. I did see a pest control box behind the toilet which creeped me out, but did not see any bugs inside the facility. It seemed to be very clean and well kept despite the aged appearance of the building. They have a game room which takes coins and looks out on the beach. You have access to the beach via the game room as well. The main building is where the fitness center, pool, sauna, and whirl pool are located. Fitness center is small contains of outdated treadmill, stationary bike and elliptical. Sauna is clean and well functioning. Whirl pool can fit 5-6 people at one time. The pool is clean and looks off onto the Lake Michigan. I would say it was a good pick by the hubby and I would return.

Doesn't even deserve one star. My husband booked this as a birthday trip for me and omg. The first room was so dirty mold growing in and near ac units with allergies i about died walking into the room. They had one more room to switch us to and it's was equally disgusting. Not worth the money to stay here save yourself the disappointment and book somewhere else. Not to mention the abundance of safety issues. RUN from here.

Cozy cozy cozy absolutely amazing Love this place very cozy family had a great time I'm here now and don't want to leave LOL

My wife and I stayed here for our anniversary for a few days off season (mid March). It was really…read morean excellent little getaway with many pros and only a few cons This resort specializes in golf...golf...GOLF (haha) during the summer, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have much to offer in the winter. There is an AMAZING spa (excellent sauna, hot tub, indoor pool, great massages), basketball and tennis courts, arcade, axe throwing, mini bowling, and indoor golf simulators. And if you prefer to just not leave the room, very comfy beds with couch seating at almost 400 sq feet per the most basic room (next time we stay here we will probably stay on the tower side of the resort where the rooms are even a little nicer). What we also loved here was the food. Aerie restaurant might be our new favorite restaurant in Michigan (close toss up with The Chophouse in Grand Rapids). See a separate review of mine for more particulars. There is also amazing room service, Niiji restaurant downstairs next to the lobby (great breakfast menu), and Jacks where you can get a good pizza or cheesy bread with awesome drinks. As for the cons, there are two: 1. A little pricey, and will only increase as we get more "in season." For the extra cost of an airplane ride, we could get a suite in downtown Vegas at the Golden Nugget, Plaza, or a luxury mini suite on Michigan Avenue in Chicago for the same price per night here of a standard room. That doesn't necessarily mean the price is not worth it here. Just be prepared is all. 2. Kids. Ugh. During the week there were not many people staying here, but as the weekend crept up more families arrived. Of course all it takes is one mommy and daddy to get drunk at Jacks downstairs while letting 3 ten year old buffoons run up and down the hall six floors up knocking on doors and running away to peeve folks like my wife and I to really put a damper on things (I don't mind admitting I don't like kids-lol. I have my own children and grandchildren-that's enough for me). The point is... do not confuse this with an adults only sanctuary. That is not what this place is. Just be prepared. Overall the score here is more like a 4.5 vs a true 5, but I'm rounding up as my wife and I were able to create some precious memories. That is bigger and better than any high price or annoying kids. Job very well done by the GTR&S. Looking forward to coming back here next year perhaps for a golf outing. :)

This was our first and likely last stay at the Grand Traverse Resort. It was my fiancé's birthday,…read moreand while we usually stay at Delamar, we wanted to try something different since the price was good. We booked a tower room. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Pedro, who was not particularly welcoming no hello or welcome, just a basic request for my ID. The room layout was great, but the "golf course view" was more of a parking lot view (though everything was snow-covered, so I understand that may affect the experience). Unfortunately, the room itself was not clean. There appeared to be mold in the ice bucket, white sticky stuff on the cabinet under the TV, handprints on the shower glass, and hair left in the bathroom, a smashed spider in the corner and cob webs throughout. Additionally, the balcony door lock was broken, so the balcony could not be opened at all, and the shower door bracket was also broken. We chose to stay since it was only one night and the bed appeared clean. I brought these issues up to Rachel at check-out, and her response was simply that they had "a list of housekeeping issues this morning," with no apology or concern expressed. Overall, the hotel staff did not feel very caring or welcoming, although the restaurant staff was very friendly. It was nice seeing the tennis matches going on, but the pool was quite cold, kids were filling the hot tub area to play so we stayed away. Would be cool to have an adult only hot tub. I'm sure when the outside ones are open and it's not as cold these are pretty nice. All in all, this stay did not provide the resort experience we were hoping for. I'm not sure I would recommend.

Nice common area with a fireplace and comfy couches. The views were amazing. Cons: The front desk staff seems unhappy and passes that along to you. As other reviewers have mentioned, they aren't flexible when it comes to changing your stay or checking in/out earlier than the stated times, so make sure your plans are very solid before booking, even in the dead of winter. Parking is very limited. We were expecting guests to drop by for a quick visit (two hours tops) and asked where they could park. We were directed across US-31 (a busy four-lane thoroughfare) to an overflow lot. We asked if there was anything closer, as one person is in a wheelchair, but they didn't budge. (The parking lot in front of the hotel was empty except for our car at that point.) I'm giving this four stars because it is an impressive property and the winter prices are quite low, but keep in mind that the customer experience wasn't great.

Don't book until you know how long you want to stay. No refunds. We had a one bedroom condo on the main level. Comes with one dedicated parking spot and extra parking on the west side of the lot. The styling is craftsman and is holding up nicely despite the harsh winters and water. Rooms are nicely maintained but the furniture is showing some wear. It was clean and well organized and it felt safe. Access to the beach is easy and each unit has a patio. Views are stellar and it's well worth the price. They come by to clean rooms and tidy up every day. The kitchenette is helpful and the fireplace is also a fun compliment to the space. Staff at the front desk is not award winning for personality but they got us what we needed. Bar was never open and the sister property down the beach has a restaurant and rooftop bar should you need that. We would return.

No worries, she had a walker, so a disaster was averted. I did let the front desk know, and they were aware of it, and stated that the location is due for updating soon, and that will be fixed. Checking into her room, Rm 214, it was massive, and I was very impressed by all the handrails in the bathroom. There were some negatives of the room though, there were only light switches right by the door when you walked it, and then only on the lamps throughout the room. My mother got up in the middle of the night and couldn't find a way to turn on any lights and had to call down to the front desk. The other negative was that the door of the bathroom, which is immediately to the right of the room door, when opened prevented you from entering the room. My mother has balance issues and called me to come in the room to help her out of the tub, and because she left the bathroom door open, I could not access the room. Her friend was sleeping but could come let me in after she heard me knocking. The next negative is the lack of wastebin liners. I spoke to the front desk and they told me it was company policy in an attempt to be 'greener'. Although I love this sentiment, I hated the smell of my food garbage permeating my room, and ended up walking it down to the lined trash bin next to the ice machine. Myself, and several other patrons staying at your facility, found ourselves requesting laundry bags so we could line our trash bins ourselves. I know they can be pricey, but may I suggest keeping biodegradable trash Bags on hand for those customers who request liners for their bins, rather than putting them in every room at every turnover? That is the end of my negative feedback, I rarely, if ever, enter public pools or spas, and annoyingly enough for my travel companions, I travel with a pool testing kit in my car because of my job. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the pool & spa, and they tested spot on, so I gave my blessing to the members of our party to go ahead and enjoy. I was upset that the first, and only time, we ate at the in-house restaurant/bistro, was after checking out. We had the most fabulous breakfast! Lastly, and most importantly, I would like to sing the praises of the staff at this location. They were always friendly, professional, and very helpful. My mother lost a nut from her walker, which was preventing her from using it. I brought the walker to the front desk hoping they might have a maintenance room where a spare nut could be located. I then had 6 people on the case. Jack, Josh, Laura, Alexandria, Pete and Rin. I was so astounded and appreciative that so many people were on the case. A nut was found, but didn't fit right, and wouldn't stay in place, so Pete & Josh went looking more thoroughly and found something that would fit AND stay in place. They fixed my mother's walker, which she is pretty much lost without. This level of service AMAZED me.

Upon check-in we were promptly greeted, and the gentleman at the counter was very friendly and helpful. Our room was a suite, and it was so spacious!! It felt quite clean, and was nice and open. The front room was a tad on the dimly lit side, but was still a nice space. There were only 2 of us in the room, but being winter we had a lot of larger boots, coats, and other winter gear with us so it was nice to have the extra space. I also brought plenty of snacks and a few gallons of water. It was nice to have the mini fridge for my snacks, and the counter space for the water. The bathroom was pretty large, and was clean. The lighting was also a bit dim, which can be challenging when trying to do makeup. I ended up doing mine in the mirror in the bedroom since there was a ton of natural light. There was a patio off the bedroom with a great view over the water, but since we were there in January we didn't go out on it at all. My sister and her family had also booked the same size suite as us, though when they checked in they were given a room with 2 queen beds that would've been large enough for 2 people, but small for a family with 2 kids. Fortunately our mom also had a suite, so she just switched rooms with them. I'm not sure how the staff would've handled it if we didn't have that option amongst ourselves. We all used the pool and hot tub, and thought it was clean enough. I was surprised to see the hot tub so empty during a winter weekend! The kids had a blast playing in the pool. I was up too early for the race to enjoy the breakfast on our first morning, but did get some on our last morning and thought they had a really good selection. There were plenty of options for adults, as well as food that the kids liked as well. I also appreciated that they had coffee, tea, and hot water in the lobby 24/7. It was a cold weekend and we went through a good amount of tea! I'm not sure what it's like in the summer months, but we had a really nice stay for our weekend, and I look forward to staying there again for the snowshoe race weekend next year!
