I had a really disappointing experience here. I purchased food and a glass bottle of water and had my receipt to prove it. After I put the water in my backpack, I was accused of stealing it because someone said they saw me take it. I immediately offered for them to check my bag and showed my receipt, but the situation was already embarrassing and uncomfortable. As a paying customer, I didn't appreciate being treated like I did something wrong when I hadn't. I returned everything and left. I have patronized Cherry Valley Market located at 801 E Gun Hill Road for a little over two years. I took my time and observed how the employees treat those that are non-Hispanic and their hospitality towards non-Hispanics sucks big time. The discrimination is subtle but there. I have only met one cashier that was actually very nice and courteous, and I am assuming because she is part of the LGBTQT+ community. I might be wrong, but still the only one. For instance, today, no good afternoon when I stepped up to the register, offered no bag with my merchandise, received no napkins or plastic utensils with my salad bar food. They really need teach their employees that this is the U.S and they need to get a grip before someone really takes offense and sue their asses. I was going to just ignore it, but too much going on in this world for this type of treatment and behaviors among us minorities. Otherwise, the store is superb; clean and organized. read more

I like the fact that this is fairly lose, less than a mile away and most importantly that it's open 24 hours. The prices are a bit high, but what do you expect. it's NYC and Yuen again they have to pay to keep it staffed 24 hours so you pay for the convenience. I was really impressed with the selection of food they had rows upon rows of different types of milks bread cheese selection. Food was pretty impressive. Amenities were good can't complain. Hey they're open 24 hours a day so if you're a night owl like me and end up cooking all sorts of things at 3 AM, when you find that you missed that one ingredient, you can always rush here to pick it up even if it's 3 AM so it gets my thumbs up. I haven't seen a 24 hour supermarket since Covid, there were a few pre-Covid but this is the first post Covid supermarket open 24 hours. I have been a customer for over 10 years @801East Gun hill Rd., & hands down the best grocery store ever!!!! Service in which I order on line, the staff was always professional, even if their was a mistake made, they were always there to rectify & adjust any mishap. I have a few choice staff members which has gone beyond to help. I was also very much delighted they even cared so much to reach out to me by phone to see if my household was okay, when they heard there was a fire in my area. Now that's family! Usually when I go there I don't have issue but I started to realize they are selling expired food. With dates stating the food is good. I tried to speak to the manager CARLOS about it but he was horrible he did not care at all and was just brushing me off as if I'm not educated or use to be a manager my self at a fast food restaurant,he was just brushing me off and accused of me of lying and saying I didn't buy the cheese from there and I need a receipt. he did not apologize or even showed common courtesy give a credit or nothing. This is the worst overpriced grocery store I have ever been to! I go to the location in Union City, New Jersey. They never know the prices on anything and the deli food that's premade is disgusting and inedible!!!! The cashier's who work at night are a bunch of indecent, rude and severally unattractive young "hoodlike" girls who wouldn't know proper customer service if it but then in the rear end!!! My first time at this market the parking lot is quite small and narrow. The inside is huge high ceilings and spacious lanes. They seem to have everything you want. They also have a food station of cooked food of mostly Dominican food, grab what you want and sit down and eat. They have tables and chairs situated in the corner. This market is a little pricey I purchased five items that added up to $30.00. I think I'll go back when they have sales. read more

Including ready to eat meat and cheese cigars and hummus. The coffee area boasts an exclusive Brooklyn Roasters as their drip. And will soon sell their beans to grind and bag by the pound. There is ample freshly made and Zaro Bakery goodies to choose from. They are still working on the hot foods island and a chimi-pizza station. There is a juice bar and a tiny but friendly sushi bar. The gyozas are dee lish. There is a labeled beer section but it is filled with the budget bologna and snackables right now. The butcher and fish areas are tiny. But they are still finishing their areas. The staff can cover most requests. It is great to have a 24 Hour market in the area. Since it increases the food choices other than Checkers. For daytime lunch grabbing, there are plenty of selections. There are many cashiers so lines do not get very long. This store is a keeper. read more

First of all I've been going to this super market since I moved to the Bronx 4 years ago and I have never had an issue until today. There's a person in the front that checks bag I've left my back pack and larger bags with them before but today I only had a small tote bag for grocery shopping with a bottle of cough medicine that I had purchased from the rite aid across the street. Upon entering I was told to check my bag I told the guy "this is my shopping bag and pointed out that there are other people around me with their own reusable shopping bags" and he responded that I still needed to check my bag and once I was done at check out I could take my items back to bag check and pack them there. This was super unnecessary and inconvenient and I told him that made no sense and I would not check my shopping bag as I use it to shop like everyone else. I walked off and continued to shop, at this point I was over it and didn't think too much about it I walked over to the register paid for my items packed them in my bag and began to leave. The man then rushed at me while I was leaving and said "next time you better check your bag". At this point given his tone and how he said it to me I was very curt and I angrily told him that I have had no problem in the past checking my back pack or large capacity bags as I know that's protocol for the store, but this is a practically empty reusable shopping with one item that I have a receipt for and for him to talk to me the way he did was uncalled for and I respectfully was not gonna check a bag that I have seen other customers using in the shop! Not to mention they only ask men to check their bags! I know the point of bag check is to prevent theft but a woman could just as easily steal from the store! Its absolutely absurd that he would need to approach me again with such attitude! Needless to say I will never shop at this supermarket again as this was totally unprofessional, and for future customers and to better the customer experience at cherry valley I implore management to reconsider how they approach bag checks as only asking men to check their bags is a bias and totally sexist! read more

I went to Cherry Valley Marketplace in the Bronx on Gun Hill Road. The store is still setting up as all the stations are not in place. The store is clean and bright. Love the different selections available and the fresh fish and meat selections. Prices are comparable to other supermarkets or slightly higher, but the selections and quality is great. I'm a fan. A supermarket was needed in the area, so I'm glad that we have a good, quality market in the area. I don't have to go to Fairway, but I can come here and shop read more

Tonight I stopped by the 801 East Gun Hill Road Cherry Valley , to buy a bag of mixed berry frozen fruit about 48 oz . I was shocked when it was time to check out that the cost for this frozen fruit was $21.99. I let the cashier know that I thought I saw a sign in the freezer that said $15 . He said no problem. He then calls over the manager on duty explains the situation and she said she would go check it out . As she's walking to the freezer she stops and sees a friend gives her a hug and then continues to have a conversation for about a good 3 to 4 minutes . I look at the cashier and say she cannot be serious right now. He gives me a stupid smile and now I'm livid I walk up to the woman I take the bag I go to the freezer take a picture then walk back to the cashier and show the cashier what I was talking about. The manager saw my frustration and stop talking to the woman. She then proceeded to talk to the cashier in Spanish. I looked at her and told her that what she did was extremely rude and unprofessional. I also let the cashier know that it wasn't funny it's poor customer service and that's not okay. Not only will I not be shopping here again because the prices are extremely high but the customer service is terrible. This is a clean well kept store! However the customer service is sub par. Many workers there do not speak English unfortunately but do their best to communicate with you. WIC is given to all babies wealthy or poor. I am blessed to not depend on these checks but most women are especially in this neighborhood. One of the best supermarkets in the area. Has an awesome variety of things that I normally have to travel to manhattan to get. The prices aren't as competitive as other supermarkets in the area, however the food is much fresher. Fruits and vegetable selection are great. Its the only supermarket in the area with sushi, which I absolutely love. They also have a bakery, pizza, deli, and area for fresh meat and fish (including fresh lobster), and a hot food area. They have seating which is great for the teachers and staff across the street to enjoy eating. The only thing that annoys me is that you are forced to check large bags. But for the area, this supermarket is great. read more

I went to the store today and grabbed some meat. I saw out of the small corner of my eye a mouse eating some of the package meat. I tried asking for the manager. 2 stars is because the store is always organized and I enjoy their Sushi and Smoothies. The employees at those stations are always pleasant. However, the quality of customer service at the main registers, has declined. It's like every time I come in there now only 2 registers open and at least one is training. I was in there today at the register for 20 mins w/something that should not have taken longer than 5..... and this has been the norm my past recent visits. I'm usually very understanding and patient when it comes to cashiers, especially in training... because I've been there... but then they don't even apologize for the hold up or tell you what's going on and sometimes they can't because they don't speak English so it makes it more stressful on both ends. read more
