If you aren't too bright and don't believe in Covid this is your restaurant! If you do believe in Covid avoid this restaurant at all costs. My hubby and I went because we have been several times before. When we entered the restaurant we were met by Cheryl and we asked her if there was dining on the patio. Stumbled in here by mistake. We almost left when we saw the prices as they were very high. We stayed, I had the shrimp and grits as it was one of the least expensive items on the menu. Excellent, expensive, yes, but great care went into the preparation of this dish. Ingredients put together beautifully. Highly recommend for a special occasion or for people visiting Rockport. The finest food in Rockport. We love the spicy food and the spicy owner. We eat here every time we're in town.

Service was good. Steaks came out a little more red than we asked, Mojito was good (little too much on the sweet side), and the sprite that my wife had was not good (syrup only, basically). Environment was nice, fancy, Christmas lighting above (could hurt the eyes depending on how many drinks you've had), only two other couples in the place on a Wednesday night. We always loved Cheryl's when we lived in Rockport. So when we came into town to visit friends we decided to eat there. Since it was a Friday night and we wanted to eat at 7:30 we made reservations. Which I highly recommend. I was first happy to see she made it through Hurricane Harvey and had added the Tiki Outdoor Bar. The interior was still fun and ecclectic like Cheryl! She greeted us like we had never moved away and we felt like we were home once again. They were very busy but our table was ready and we were seated immediately. Even though there had been a labor shortage because of the hurricane her staff now seems experienced and very efficient. On to our favorite part of this restaurant (besides Cheryl) the food! Drinks were ordered and were wonderful. I had the ginger mint margarita and my husband had a Manhattan! Both were perfect! The salads followed with homemade blue cheese dressing with pickled onions and tiny pickled tomatoes. They also serve a sharing plate of feta and spinach chips. I normally do not eat my entire salad but could not stop this time. Yum! For the main course I had the Spinach Ravioli with Shrimp in Cream Sauce. It was absolutely delicious. It came with crusty bread to soak up all that goodness. My husband ordered the Char Grilled Tuna Steak with wasabi. He loved every bite. We were so full that we passed on dessert but I know from experience the Bananas Foster Whoopie Pie is to die for! We are already planning our next trip to Rockport and meal at Cheryl's. We almost took it off the list due to the bad reviews, but it looked pretty good from the outside, so figured that we'd take a chance and we're happy that we did. There was a group of 15 ladies in Rockport for a bachelorette party. We attempted to go to 2 different restaurants, but the waits were ridiculous. A patron at one restaurant suggested we call Cheryl's to see if they could take such a large party. Call made, I was informed they could take us, and that there would be a table waiting for us when we arrived. They did not lie, we were seated as soon as we walked in. Our waitress was really friendly. She took our drink order, and then came back with the specials for the night. The atmosphere was so quaint, cute and different for Rockport. We especially loved the bathroom décor, be sure to check it out! The spinach chips and cheese they serve was addicting! I heard the martinis were delicious from the ladies that did order martinis. I personally had the softshell crab, and wow. It was to die for! Delicious! I tried the flash fried brussel sprouts, fried grits and shrimp, cheesy grits, and the salmon. It was all good! Excellent food and portions! We've been in a few times and the Waitstaff is rude for the most part and they make you feel like the only way to eat there is with a reservation! That is your first impression when walking in the door, we thought about leaving all 3 times because of it. People skills could use some work but food is amazing! read more

Cheryl's by the Sea is an amazing restaurant. It's small, quaint pretty quiet and can be very romantic. Prices are moderate to high, but well worth it. Drinks: in our party we had the Key Line Martini, both prickly pear and strawberry margaritas and Pinot noir. All were superb, but the Key Lime Martini should be for dessert. It was really something, like drinking a KL pie. Appetizers: we had quail breast wrapped in jalapeño and bacon they were absolutely amazing. Also had the basaltic vinaigrette French bread was to die for. Plus the bacon wrapped dates and they were heavenly. Soup: the chicken avocado soup was fantastic. Salads: were great. Entrees: the fried shrimp were fresh and very good. Also, the shrimp n grits with bacon and andouille was the best I've ever had. We had no room for dessert, but I'm sure it would be great too. The food was really good. The reason for the two stars is for the service and the owner Cheryl. We were seated in the bar area which is fine. However they allow smoking. The smoking is supposed to cut off at 6:30 pm for the dinner crowd. The people behind us at 7pm lit up and since they are locals it was fine with the owner that they smoked. Us and the table beside us complained about the smoking while we ate and the owner Cheryl just sat down with them and conversed. From that time on we got even worse service than before. And it was not good to start. It took an hour for a single rare steak to come out and they weren't even busy. Again the food is good. But because of the other issues we will not return and caution anyone else to do the same. read more

Best brunch in Rockport- hands down! Cheryl & her staff are wonderful, and there's not one thing on the menu that isn't DELICIOUS! Eggs Benedict, with fried shrimp- duck fat potatoes- start with fried green tomatoes- you will not be disappointed. Today we decided to try out Cheryls for the first time. The ambiance was very nice. I ordered the ribeye steak. Unfortunately the steak had no taste to it other than the grill flavor. No rub no seasoning. Not worth the price. Never had to ask for steak sauce or add salt to taste before until this evening. I spoke with the owner and was surprised by her rude response by telling me that i dont know about 44 farms and what a good steak is as she walked away. She said i probably wasnt used to eating steak from high end establishments. Ive eaten at many high priced restaurants in corpus and the rockport area and i have to say this restaurant owner is the worst ive ever encountered. This bitter woman will be losing many customers during and after Covid-19. I definitely do not recommend this establishment!!! read more

I was disappointed with the main dish. I ordered the shrimp ajo and I could taste the shrimp bleached. My caipirinha was fine and salad.

We went for a birthday brunch. The staff seemed a bit disorganized. We had a reservation and although they seated us fairly quickly, it just seemed like the right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing. The food presentation was gorgeous; however most of the egg dishes lacked basic seasoning. We found ourselves adding salt and pepper. The ambiance is really cute and eclectic, but the staff seemed to need a little more training in the art of fine dining and customer service. They provided an awesome candle in the dessert that was basically a large sparkler. Oh, and the pistachio strawberry shortcake was refreshing and innovative! I really wanted to love this place, but I liked it okay is the best I can say. I guess I expected a more polished service for the price. read more

I dined with my in-laws and this was a highlight of my weekend trip to Rockport. We arrived during lunch and On Sundays they do the brunch menu only. We started with the deliciously powdery french style beignets. They come as a quadruplet and were fresh, tasty and just enough amount of sweet. My father in law had the lime and avocado soup as an appetizer, and oh my it was mouthwateringly phenomenal. He ordered the best for sure!! It comes as a broth based soup with chunks of avocado, cilantro and green onions. A have to order. The entrees came and I had ordered the fried shrimp and I got a side of the cheese grits. The plate came out beautifully arranged. The shrimp were juicy and the cheese grits were perfect. The shrimp also came with some thick homemade french fries which were a fantastic surprise. My mother in law got the fried green tomato salad with a side of the sautéed spinach. She was incredibly happy and raved about the fried tomatoes. My father in law for the sautéed St Peters and was very happy with his meal. Fabulous food, great quick service and a beautifully designed interior. This was an incredible experience. read more

The Do's and Don'ts:  If you believe COVID is real and prefer to wear a mask until you are seated, DON'T come to this restaurant - you will be rudely confronted by the owner, Cheryl.   If you think COVID is a hoax and want to go mask-less DO visit but beware.....there is a $25 minimum which can't be satisfied with drinks and dessert (her menu says so - and quite rudely, among other rather bizarre remarks - see images already posted by others). How it went down......Saturday night was not my first visit to this restaurant but it will be my last.  The minute we walked through the door with our masks on, we were confronted - told we had to take them off or leave.  Not a problem but we mistakenly thought that meant when were seated.  That was not the case....we took ours off but 2 of our party of 5 had not arrived and we knew one of them would have a problem with this and said so.  We should have left right then and there.  The owner, Cheryl was very abrupt and told us her "regulars" didn't like to see people in masks (she doesn't believe in COVID) and that they would not be tolerated - that we should go somewhere else.  We elected to wait (maskless) for our other friends to arrive and they both made the decision to leave.  Having called ahead to reserve a table, knowing that the owner set one aside for us, and given that it was late and we were tired, 3 of us decided to stay.  BIG mistake.  We will own that.... Another DON'T - if you have a food allergy and don't disclose it and something goes awry, Cheryl will blame the mistake on you and tell you that if you have allergies, you should cook at home.  She was loud and abrasive and practically attacked a member of our party after she brought an order mistake (which could have been deadly) to the attention of our waiter - who was VERY nice, by the way. We have video of Cheryl yelling at our friend! We were astounded by her behavior!  Her "regulars" at the bar were in full support too (something in the well drinks maybe?) Oh, and those 5 star reviews on here - we heard her telling her "regulars" that she wrote some of them herself.  So yes, BUYER BEWARE! Barring all of the above, I would still only give the food 3 stars.  It was adequate but definitely not 5 stars.  I hope she's not relying on her "regulars" to keep her in business....I'm not even sure her staff are actual employees but rather friends she has recruited to help her keep it going.  Good luck.... How does she know that I'm not a late-night food critic.....or does she even care...do I even care?  No, I DON'T! So far the DON'Ts outweigh the DOs...... read more

Our family of 5 came in to Cheryl's for dinner. We had wonderful service and delicious food. The outside of the restaurant has a cool tiki theme that attracted our attention initially and the inside is decorated with antique furniture and colorful lighting throughout. Every room has something interesting to look at. Our family really enjoyed the warm hospitality and would recommend anyone to come experience it for yourself. The wife and I ate here for the first time last night and I have to say this will be our go to place for now on. As soon as we walked in we were welcomed by a very friendly staff. The young ladies were great, especially our waitress Bevi. She was very sweet and accommodating. She took great care of us and made my wife an awesome Mint Julep. The food was truly surprising. The entrees were served with a very nice presentation. I had the rib eye which was cooked perfectly( medium rare of course) and the wife had flounder which was also very, very good. We have lived here for 2 months now and have been to a lot of restaurants and can say with out a doubt Cherryl's is by far the best in the area. Very classy, great staff and great food. read more

Ummm, what just happened? Is this a restaurant or intricate performance art? I'm still confused. We went to Cheryl's and were delighted at the Tiki Bar exterior. We entered, under the "Lower Your Expectations" sign over the door, and had a laugh about it. We walk up to the main bar to order a drink to have outside, as the outside bar was closed. We wait over five minutes for someone to acknowledge our presence, even though several servers and bartenders walked directly in front of us. Once we get a drink menu, we ask if the bartender knows a couple of very standard cocktails not listed. He laughed and literally said "I'm only 21 and just a beer and shots kinda guy." Oooookkaaay, "bartender". So we think it's wise to order off the menu, but before we could order, he ignored us for seriously ten minutes, no eye contact, nothing. Did get some strange mean glares from some servers though. Once we order, the bartender says he'll bring the drinks out to us, but another woman stopped him. So after ten more minutes of standing at the bar, we have our drinks and take them to the cool tiki patio. Bartender said he'd bring out the card and check but never did. Drinks were ok I guess and the ambiance on the patio is awesome. There were two cool cats on the patio that were responsive and provided the best service of the night. Also, the artwork in the bathrooms is funky and top-notch. TLDR: Outside is cool, decor overall is cool, inside is bizarre and rude. I went there this past Sunday for brunch with my GF. We stood there at the wait to be seated sign for ten minutes without so much as a greeting from the proprietors. The place wasn't particularly busy and there were several empty tables ready to seat us, so I'm not sure what the issue was. Not one greeting, or a we will be right with you uttered. I've heard good things about this place, but we won't be back there. We don't like rude. I just went back to this review "post Harvey", apparently I forgot to post it previously. Anyhow, today 03/31/19 my GF and I were thinking about giving this place a second chance, it was a bit out of our way at the time so I had her check their website to see if they were open., they were. Interesting experience. In short, Cheryl's has good (albeit overpriced) food and bad customer service. All of the reviews about bad management/ownership are spot on. Cheryl definitely either doesn't know or doesn't care about about a few rules of hospitality. I was shocked at how rude and unprofessional she was. Still, if you can deal with slow service and poor treatment, the food is quite good. We made a reservation early in the day, but upon arrival we had to wait about five minutes before anyone even spoke to us (we were a party of 8). Finally Cheryl approached us and said she didn't have any room for us. We told her we had made a reservation and she dismissed this. We insisted and again she did not believe us. Throughout this exchange Cheryl continued to imply that my grandmother (who made our reservation) was lying about doing so, going so far as to bring out the reservation book and put it in front of my grandmother, telling her to check for herself. Cheryl would not accept that we were right and was quite disrespectful. Fortunately my grandmother knew the name of the employee that she had made the reservation with. We told Cheryl to ask that employee about our reservation. She did and it turned out the employee had recorded our reservation in the book, and Cheryl had simply failed to notice it and hadn't made preparations for us. She did apologize, but shifted blame to the employee and another customer that had been giving her trouble, which struck me as very unprofessional. We then had to wait another a half hour to be seated. Cheryl did not offer any compensation or accommodations to correct for her mistake which delayed our meal by almost an hour. I have to say, when you're paying $30 per entree, you really don't expect to be treated this way. Once seated, the service was decent but rather on the slow side. Like I said the food was really good, but right before it came out we were told they had run out of a few sides that we had ordered.
