a basket of fries and a cheeseburger

I learned a couple of lessons from this place. 1, look to order what the specialize in, and 2, seasoned food is a rarity. We actually tried going to a different place for bbq but they only had it on tues and sat, and today was mexican. We stopped into the Frosty 50s Diner and I couldnt be more glad that we didnt eat at the other place. First, every one working was a delight to talk to. I asked the gentleman what he recommended, and when he stepped from behind the counter and took a deep breath, I knew we were in the right place. His answer was that he recommended everything. As he ran down the list, he started with the #1, which is a tortilla burger. He was sure to make the disclaimer that he did not come up with the idea, then told us the story (an old dude who still lives there, his mom ran out of burger buns, improvised, and used tortillas. It became a hit and here we are). He then went into the specialty burgers on the menu. Foolishly wanting to be different, I ordered the fish platter. As I waited, everyone elses burgers came out. These werent basic burgers, they had egg, bacon, guac, and steak knives through them to keep them together. I was starting to regret my decision. After my neice proclaimed that it was the best she ever had, I knew I messed up and came to realization 1. After some persuading from my sis, I went back and ordered the tortilla burger. Listen. This burger was way better than I expected. This was the homemade burger you make for the family, with the twist of there being two tortillas. After bite two I came to realization 2. The burger had FLAVOR. The diced onions gave it twang, the cheese was cheesin, the tortilla have taco vibes but complimented the patty...it was GOOD. Only disclaimer I can give for the tortilla burger is that whenever you pick it up, you have to commit cause theres no putting it down, otherwise its gonna fall apart.

Cheeseburger! Sorry for the partially eaten piece. I forgot to take photos before diving in to this delicious burger!

We drive by the sign for this place driving to and from Houston to McAllen all the time. Finally decided to stop and have lunch. I had a cheeseburger that was so fresh and delicious. My husband had the fried catfish that was cooked perfect and so tasty. We also go the steak fingers that are hand breaded to order with meat from the local butcher that's been around for 100 years. The steak fingers reminded me of home cooked meals of my youth. Everything was fantastic. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We loved the old school diner vibe! We will definitely be back to try more on the menu!

I had to put my first bite back to take this picture, when you eat here you will know how hard this was for me!

Oh my gosh! If you haven't tried The Frosty you really haven't eaten a fabulous hamburger or their fresh fried catfish burger or basket. Today we had the catfish basket and the filets were so hot you had to be careful on the first bite. Actually the fish stayed hot till the last bite! They change their cooking oil everyday so everything is fresh and delicious. The Frosty should be called The Treat because it is!

I had a # 6 I couldn't eat it all it was that big... but definitely worth it...

Great service!!! Food was quick and hot!!! Nice clean restaurant!!! Looks like a dive from the outside but nice and cute on the inside... Food was more than both of us could eat...

Me and my partner stoped here because we saw a sign down route 77 that said , " A Texas Bucket List Destination". When we arrived we decided to try the Frosty Burger Jr. The burgers were made fresh and the fries that went with were crispy. They weren't too small or too big. Perfect for quick stop after being on the road. This place hit the spot. If we ever drive down route 77 again, will stop again!

It's been a while since I'd gone but I think the quality has gotten much much better. Nice little diner, friendly service and great food .

Steak fingers, Tuttle's meat, with gravy.

Frosty always delivers. Their homemade salsa is good too! Service was very good. The steak fingers were hot out of the fryer and they were tender and juicy.

Great burgers! We had both the regular fries and the curly fries. Both were awesome! Fast service!

The food is good but a little expensive. And it really depends on who's cooking. The owner Danny is great and always helpful.

I've traveled all over the world and up and down the U.S. coastline, and I understand beach‑town dining can be hit or miss. But this experience left us genuinely confused about the glowing reviews. We walked into a tiny establishment where the bar was fully staffed and drinks were flowing, yet we couldn't even get served food. Alcohol seemed ready to go, but the kitchen was moving at a pace that made no sense. We were told food would take over an hour. For a place this small, that's baffling. It made me wonder if the rave reviews were written through "vacation goggles" -- sunburned, tired, or a few drinks in -- because from our sober perspective, nothing about the service or setup matched the hype. Maybe the "excellent" part of the name refers strictly to the bar, because the grill definitely felt off‑duty. We ended up leaving without ever getting food. Not the experience we were hoping for.

Ordered two Hamburgers with fries* which cost $6 each plus one Canned Coke and one bottled water. Total cost $16. The first thing were the Sourdough Hamburger Buns - Outstanding! The HB Buns were excellent and the HB Pattie must have been 1/3 pound cooked but NOT LESS! It was cooked to a juicy done stage and all together tasted first class. The fries*! Well! They might have called them fries but I called them "Wavy Potato Chips" fried it oil. I was NOT impressed as their "Yelp" pictures showed real fries! Hmm! What happened! Maybe they ran out of regular American Fries? But! We will be back and try the Onion Rings. However, If we get wavy Onion Rings "No Mas" (No more)! We do highly recommend this place.
