Che's is a good place to go for a cheap drink. They've got a few decent beers on tap, and what's not to like about $2.50 Sierra Nevada? The staff are pretty good, not always fast, but friendly. And the crazy artwork everywhere is entertaining. Two downsides: it's almost always too loud for my tastes, and it's often very crowded, especially on the weekends. But if you want a cheap drink on a weeknight, this is definitely a solid choice. read more

I really like this bar. It's artistic and different and the drinks are amazingly cheap and there is never a cover or any of that stuff. I've always found the majority of people there are pretty nice and if you go enough the bartenders will begin to know you and will for sure always do their best to get to you fast. It's one of my favorite bars in downtown Tucson. It's a pretty hipster bar, staff are very friendly. The place can get crowded on the weekend. My favorite drinks are Mojito and Bloody Marry. Great for pre-game with group of friends! read more

I cannot say enough good things about this spot. It is eclectic both inside the bar, covered with local art; as well as outside on the patio where there's an additional bar for busy nights. I have been going to this place for years and every time it has been a great experience. Last night on the other hand, i experienced the worst time I've ever had. I didn't recognize the bar tenders. There was a fat bearded one and a skinny meth head looking one. They were both extremely rude the entire time. They treated my friends like dirt, saying that they didn't know what they wanted, and walked away. Only because they were trying to see if they could order a Rob Roy. One of the simplest drinks to know, as a bar tender. I ordered a bloody maria. Also, one of the simplest drinks to make. The meth head looking guy didn't know if it had vodka or tequila. It was a garbage drink. The cleaning girl or whatever, looked like she had been a hooker for most of her life. Very much worst for ware. She had the worst attitude, of anyone who wipes tables for a living, that i've ever met. Over all, i will never go back. read more

The location, price, and service were good. We were having a good time. Until, when my friends wanted to go to another place, my fiancee just got a new drink. So he got the red cap from the bar and put his drink in it and we tried to leave the place. Apparently, it is illegal to leave the place with your drink (not taking the glass, again he put it in the red cup). We did not know that, and if we knew we would have never done that. But instead of explaining the rules/laws the old doorman with the white beard just suddenly physically attacked my fiancee (pushed him outside the door), threw away his drink, and shouted at us GET LOST! NEVER RETURN BACK! I was so shocked! I tried to talk to him that my fiancee did not know, and we're sorry, but he wouldn't even listen! We're international students and we never treated this bad in the USA. I would recommend to fellow Asian students: never go to this place! Terrible experience and totally killed our vibe! read more

First time tonight and honestly the worst experience I've had at a bar EVER. Why would anyone ever go here? Cheap beer? That's what brought me to come here. I came expecting great service and cheap beer. I was wrong... I walked in and half way in the the bar the guy in the pony tail checked our ID when we were already inside.. From that moment he profiled us and whispered to his other "bartender" not to serve us. I respect the service industry and always tip more than needed. I'm compelled to write this review(first ever review in my yelp career) to explain and express how bad this place treat others. I'm of Asian background and my friends come from all walks of life(Indian,white,Mexican,Irish) anyways.. We are customers and we should not be treated the way we should have. I would never wish that treatment on anyone. The old bartender told me that "you and your friends don't belong here" I never expected to get treated the way I did at a "BAR"... I was not drunk nor i was too intoxicated. I'm writing this review they same day this happened. YELP please help me shut down places that profile human beings and please help me close places that don't deserve to serve "selected" individuals. I say selected only because he did not like "our kind" we are nice individuals who will pay and tip more than needed to whom ever serve a great deal to our night. This place is a cool spot to go with friends for a cheap drink and to hang out on the back patio, especially when the back bar is serving drinks. However, that does not explain why the door man was so violent and the ownership so unresponsive. So to begin: About a year ago, a friend of mine was visiting form out of town, so naturally I took him to 4th for some drinks. We were at Che's and he was having a bottle of some beer and me a mixed drink. I went outside to make a phone call, and left him at the bar without telling him where I was. He started looking for me and walked outside to see if I was there, absent-mindedly carrying his bottle of beer with him. I turned and saw him walk out and immediately the doorman turned to him and said you need to take that bottle back inside. Before even giving my friend one second to urn around and go back inside, the doorman grabbed him and threw him to the ground very hard, slamming him on his back. He tore the bottle from my friends hand, while keeping all of his weight on my friend's body. He then told my friend he had to wait outside, and told me to go and close his tab. I went inside, demanding our money back, and was refused, and forced to pay for the bottle and my drink, both unfinished, and then told to leave with him. The next day, I called the bar to report the issue. I figured I would talk to the owners, since they would undoubtedly be angry and worried about what happened. Instead, the person who answered the phone gruffly insisted they were the manager, and when I told them what happened they told me to "fuck off and stop calling". I still do not know if the person I talked to was actually a manager or owner, but regardless, they were the most unnecessarily violent, disrespectful, and unprofessional bar staff I have ever encountered. read more

My experience wasn't pleasant. I came for the live music and it was out back on the 'smokers patio' so we were the only ones without cigarettes, it stinks. It was a hot summer evening. Everyone commenting on how racist the bartenders/owners are at this location are 100% correct. I went in one Friday evening with my boyfriend and another girl friend only to be served by a fat, old, balding bartender. My boyfriend paid his drink in cash first, and I paid mine with a debit card afterwards. However, the bartender came back with my receipt and threw it at my face for no apparent reason. When he came back to collect his tip, we asked what was wrong with him and he yelled at us to "F*ck off", stating that he could not believe that my boyfriend didn't pay mine and my girl friend's drink. We were so shocked that I ended up not leaving a single tip. As we walked towards the outside patio, the bartender repeatedly told us to "Go f*ck ourselves", by making this big show and aggressively pointing a finger at us. We were in shock at how inappropriately this man treated us. Looking back, we figured it was more of a racist issue against Mexicans. (Which is rather odd, because probably over 50% of that bar's population is made up of Mexican-Americans living in Tucson). Whatever the reason, I will never return in my life. read more

yes, i'm a fan. but then again, i very rarely show up here past 6 p.m. right after work, i can always find a spot at the bar. i'm usually a beer drinker, but with my tastes, i'm hard to please here. so i get mixed drinks instead. it doesn't matter who pours the drink, it is universal that the bartenders don't have any respect for my liver (and that's a good thing). the bar does tend to be on the divey side, but i like it. i've been here for live music before, and then i'd have to agree with those who say it's loud with no place to sit and good luck getting a drink at the bar. for my happy hour activities, this place is just swell. read more

I can't believe I haven't yet written a review of Che's! This is tied for first place as my Favorite Bar in Tucson. Where to start? How about the rad art all over the place, most made by Che's veteran bartender and local artist, Donovan White? How about the stupid cheap prices and generous pours? How about the sweet smoking patio in the back? How about that jukebox, which features a rotating collection of old favorites, indie picks, and local musicians? How about the unbeatable people-watching? This is a bar where everyone knows your name. I wouldn't classify it as a dive bar... it's more of a neighborhood bar. I never wait long for a drink, and it's always served with a side of banter and a smile. This is a bar that appreciates its regulars. If I'm ever having a bad day, I know Che's is the place to come. Che's is one of those truly unique places that you miss when you leave a city. There's a great mix of people here from early evening to close most nights, and it's a prime place for a bizarre conversation with whichever random person who happens to plop down next to you. Even when it's on the quieter side, the atmosphere remains somewhat frenetic: the wild rush of colors from the surreal artwork, the Ms. Pacman games, the jukebox, the fan, the efficient bartenders. Speaking of bartenders, this is how it's done--they are fast and keep the drinks flowing, but they're also capable multi-tasking smart-asses who know how to pour drinks AND chat/flirt/zing at the same time. Also, investigate when you see fresh produce--they make mean mojitos when mint is in and sometimes make fresh-fruit margaritas. Oh, and the drinks are cheap--for those high-rollers with more upscale tastes (heh) than the buck-PBRs, two bucks will get you a can of Tecate or a well cocktail. read more

Best place in the 4th Ave/downtown area for drinks. It's cool that they have art on the walls and live music often. The staff is nice and the owner (or one of them) is a talented artist and funny as hell (ask him to tell you a joke and he will deliver). Definitely my favorite hometown spot. read more
