Clam Chowder in a bread bowl, and side of cream of broccoli
    Lauren S.

I was craving soup, and what's better than soup in a bread bowl? We tried the clam chowder in a bread bowl, a side of the cream of broccoli, and the half sandwich/ soup combo of turkey sandwich and chili (bread bowl on the side). The portions here are massive and I think you get a good amount of food for the price. My bread bowl soup was filling and tastes great for $10, and my wife could barely finish her half sandwich and a few bites of chili. We both had leftovers. The place is no nonsense and looks like a bar (it is) but the service was quick and friendly.

A 4th Ave staple! A great spot for happy hour, and consistently good massive sandwiches. Everything comes with a bag of chips and is relatively customizable. Classic bar feel, quick service, and great variety in options. We often go in for happy hour and an appetizer. All soup is served in bread bowls. And the bread for sandwiches is very fresh. One downside is the soup options are either chili or cream based. Would like to see something broth based make its way onto the menu.

Clam chowder and 1/2 pastrami OMG its so good!!

Made it back again with my daughter for soup and 1/2 sandwich. So good! The clam chowder bowl is awesome. The pastrami on rye with swiss. Place is always hopping. Definitely a dive bar diner on 4th Ave. it really captures the vibe of 4th Ave. before you go, bring cash, will save you on the tab. Trust me...

Lunch with my girlfriends to celebrate a birthday, was a very nice visit at Bison. My first visit here. A typical bar setting inside and out. Small booths inside with bar seating and hightops outside and a few steel picnic benches. It was a beautiful day outside so we decided to dine and visit outdoors. When we arrived at 11:45 it was quiet but by the time we left the place was very busy. Also smoking is allowed outside in their bar area so for us it was time to go. Our server was very nice, helpful, and patient with us. Our food was delicious! Three ordered the 1/2 sandwich and soup which also came with chips. It was a lot of food. Two ordered the clam chowder which was fantastic and one ordered the chili and she said was delicious. They all loved their sandwiches too. I ordered the cobb salad and it was fresh and delightful. I appreciated the dressing on the side. One down side, not a lot of parking so you have to park on side roads, and hopefully you will find a parking meter that shows details on the screen. It was a guessing game how much time we had on our meter.

I had the best lunch and mimosas for lunch today. The calli sandwich and side salad was so good! I definitely recommend!

Our waitress was really great and we were seated quickly . While they had plenty of vegan options my veggie hummus sandwich lacked flavor & I had to add a ton of Russian mustard & other spices to make it interesting . My friend at the table also commented on lack of flavor . My avocado was barely visible , sliced thin and just didn't match the giant bread slices . I went , tried it . Would I go outta my way to come back - no I wouldn't .

    1/2 sandwhich and soup combo

I've been coming here for years, usually for takeout, and always loved the 1/2 sandwich and soup combo. My go-to was the Miss Priss on white bread (with lettuce instead of sprouts), a cream of broccoli soup bowl, and salt and vinegar chips--all of which were consistently delicious. This time, I decided to build my own sandwich with white bread, chicken breast, pastrami, melted cheddar, lettuce, and honey mustard. Unfortunately, it was drenched in honey mustard to the point of being inedible. Even after removing the bread, there was so much sauce left that it made me nauseous, and I had to throw it out. I recommend asking for sauces on the side to avoid this issue. Since it was takeout, I couldn't exchange it. On a brighter note, the cream of broccoli bread bowl was still as delicious as always.

Bison Witches gives me an off-the-beaten-path vibe that solely makes it popular among locals who know of the good food it provides! I came here because my partner knew of the location, and wanted me to be try it. We were encouraged to pick our own seats, and we were so lucky to visit when we did, as it got filled up quickly! Our waitress was very kind, and started us off with some water before we ordered nachos for starters and a BLT sandwich for myself (the sandwich comes with a side of bagged chips). I was a fool to think I could consume both things in one sitting, because I didn't know how HUGE the portion sizes were. Even someone who eats a lot may have trouble with an appetizer and a main entree. Bison Witches delivers on hearty portions and satisfying flavors. I really enjoyed the cheese that came with the nachos, as it tasted natural and not store bought like some movie theaters sell. Even my partner, who normally dislikes nacho cheese, ended up really enjoying it. The BLT tasted good too, even though I only had 2 bites, but it still holds up after heating it back home. I would come here again, but EARLY! I can see stopping by in the heart of the afternoon can get really crowded. But that's the price to pay for some quality food.

Food is pretty bangin (I love a gourmet sandwich) and it's got a fun dive bar vibe. I've been itching to go back.

Visited 4th avenue and saw BW! Great food and service! Entrance does look like a hole in the wall, but don't let that fool you!

Noon, on our way out of town moving her home, I made it our final stop. Should've come here years earlier. I had no idea of the longevity of The Sausage Deli until entering this place. I read the framed articles on the wall and learned how beloved they are. They mainly have sandwiches and are made to order, old school style. The sides are prepackaged in the deli case at the counter. I had the Italian Grinder, my wife had the Salami Sub and my daughter had a make your own sandwich. I had the sides of macaroni salad and potato salad. These sides were bland but maybe that's to compliment the flavorful sandwiches? I loved my Italian grinder and all the items inside it. The prices are fairly reasonable here and the service was great. You order at the counter and they call out your number when it's ready. Thinking back on my experience here, I don't remember seeing sausages anywhere....Hmmmm......Wonder why?

I went during a lunch break and the food both myself and my coworkers got all ended up being incredible. There is seating in the back of the store but a massive selection of all kinds of Italian goods, both in freezers and in a deli-style section. The menu has all kinds of classic favorites and I tried a sandwich that had fresh burrata, which was the exact thing I was craving. The prices are decent for the size of the portions and I also ended up snagging a bag of Baci candies on my way out! The feast of the seven fishes is our yearly tradition during the holidays, and when it rolls around, Angie (I'm not making that up, that is her real name--I told you she was Italian) will grab stuff from Roma by the armful. I am of the opinion that the prepared foods from here can range from the, "Mama Mia!" (really really tasty) to the, "Eh, Cosi cosi" (you know, it passes) range. I'm a people-person and love to observe the patrons. Many of the customers appear to be of Italian descent and, like my bettah half seem to really-enjoy the traditional and authentic staples of, Il Bel Paese (The beautiful country). Food from many different regions of Italy are available. The decor is kinda fun. In my mind, when I think of what an Italian trattoria should look like, this place comes to mind... it's got the classic red and white checkered table clothes, maps and landscapes of Italy adorning the walls, and an energy of a place that is well cared for. A religious icon or two will also dot the interior landscape. The aroma of slowly simmering tomato gravy, cut garlic, roasted meats, chopped onions, and olive oil fills the air. It's an experience. Sometimes life imitates art, and hand to gawd, on my mutha's life... the last times I went, der was deeze tree guys sitt'n in dah corner. I swears, dey cou'da been cast members from the Sopranos. Ayhhyyee! Was'amatta, youse? The staff is generally warm and enthusiastic about their offerings. They generally have been super helpful, and if it's not too busy, are more than happy to make suggestions for new items or how best to prepare the items we have purchased. When we have visited, 90% of the time, the place was crack'n (meaning: super busy and full of life!). Sometimes, as we drive away and I take a peek at the receipt, I will exclaim, "Davvero! È così caro!" Loosely translated that means, "Really! That's so expensive!" My wife, who only knows a few words of Italian, has no idea that I was pooping my pantaloni over the cost... but, bless her heart, she seems to think the food here is worth every penny. Generally, I agree. So next time you go, remember to leave the gun, but take the cannoli. Mangiare!
