I was casually walking by intending to go to another venue. However, the immediate thing was that I heard music that I loved coming from their patio. I walked in and they happened to have karaoke going on inside as well. I stopped and had a basic one for one rum and Diet Coke as I would normally have in that kind of venue and I ended up staying until the night was over. I got the same vibe that I always feel at my local dive bar in Phoenix. Also, I never knew PBR gave out awards for how much of the product a bar sells. So that was definitely a new moment for me. Went on Sunday the last day of the 4th Avenue StreetFair. We were with relatives from out of town who were not used to this unusually hot weather for March. I purchased 2 drinks (a barrio blonde beer and a Malibu rum and Sprite) left $5 tip and when I asked for 2 ice waters the bartender refused and said there was water in the big igloo cooler. The water in the igloo cooler tasted like pool water and was disgusting. I didn't ask for free water and purchased drinks. Will not go here again. read more

Instead of barhopping on NYE, I found myself spending my entire night at Mr. Head's because the longer I stayed, the more fun I was having. You see, they're a bar specializing in an amazing draft beer selection, but at the same time they aren't taking themselves too seriously. It's not a bunch of flanneled out bros patting each other on the back. They want you to twerk while you pound some of AZ's finest stouts and IPA's. I was dropping it low with a DJ playing 2000s hip-hop, modern trap, and even some pop from around the world. When I needed a breather, I stepped out to the *massive* patio, complete with multiple tables, a set of outdoor restrooms. It was a bit below freezing outside, but fortunately they had some cool torches lit, where everyone gathered around. The best part of the night was the champagne toast! It was all good vibes until I stumbled out at last call. I made new friends, had fun, and woke up hungover, exactly how one should be on New Years Day. Came here on a Saturday night for the first time with friends. They have a very mixed and large drink menu and very attentive and friendly staff. The thing I liked the most about this place was the options for outdoor seating and live music that played on Saturdays. The have several tables and seats outside, which is great with the cool evenings we have been having in Tucson. The exit from the outdoor area leads straight into 4th Ave, which is very convenient, especially if it gets crowded, making for a nice quick escape. The drinks are reasonably priced, and if you don't want to have a cocktail or a beer that is on tap, they have a fairly decent can and bottled beer menu. It's a pretty chill place and would highly recommend coming here on nights where they have live music. It's a fun place to chill for the evening with friends, or a place to start off your night at. read more

Y'all need bouncers who understand that people with disabilities exist. I tried to get in with someone who wears leg braces and his feet were hurting from walking at the street fair on 12/14/19. We were going to have a quick beer and find vegan food down the Avenue (which they didn't have at Head's). The bouncer asked if we were having food and we said no and I explained I'm vegan. The bouncer said we couldn't go in. My partner asked if the bar was closed, and the bouncer said we couldn't go in because the person I was with was walking like he was drunk. He was completely sober. We then disclosed about his leg braces and the bouncer just shrugged and again said we couldn't go in. Could it be because he's brown and the white frat boy bouncer assumes that sober brown people with disabilities must be drunk? Does it not hurt for people to make assumptions about you? I am a fun of small, cozy places. Mr Head's bar is nice. I was in Tucson for just one evening, went to an early dinner and the next day we stopped to Mr Heads. I'm not sure if the same owner of Mr Heads is the pizza place in front (brooking pizza) but i felt so spoiled when I told the bartender I was starving, only to few minutes later a fantastic calzone from across the street was in front of me. Great variety of local beers. It is not just a "bar", it is an art gallery. Having an outside spacious patio is also a big plus. read more

I stopped here with a friend and Adam to have some drinks and enjoyed my time. They had an amazing strawberry cider but it was super sweet. I still drank two glasses though. It was early when we went so the bar wasn't crowded and the bartender was able to take care of us quickly and was very friendly. We sat at the bar for a while and then went outside. There are tables and chairs on the patio along with fairy lights so you can see at night and enjoy the cool air. There is a bathroom in the bar and a men's and women's bathroom outside on the patio. The women's bathroom was a little weird because there were no doors in front of the toilets? So if you go in I suggest just locking the door and keeping it to yourself for some privacy. The most disrespectful bar that I've had to deal with in a really long time. One of the bouncers by the name of conor literally slammed into the bathroom, assaulting me with the door from what felt like him kicking it open, and accused us of doing drugs. He then saw that my bud was just taking an innocent piss and I was having a drunk conversation while waiting to use the pisser. Instead of apologizing he continued to yell at us. Telling us to go to ibts, and telling us that gay people weren't welcome in his bar in some delusional fit of rage. Trying to make any excuse he could to pretend that what he just did, and was doing, wasn't completely stupid and unprofessional. We walked out of the back to the main area, and met up with our other friends to leave. I then asked conor for his name so I could report him to the owner for his unprofessional behavior. He basically told me his name and then started cussing me out and acting completely unprofessional claiming that he was immune and that nothing would happen to him. My group which was like half the people there( it was a slow sunday night for them), and most of the other people there proceeded to walk out of the bar after he made a huge scene. If you're reading this conor, before you call other people "fags" for taking a piss in a bathroom, try not busting open bathroom doors to sneak peeks in the men's room to get your fix, and then proceed to yell until all of your customers leave. Probably my favorite bar (straight up booze, no food here) on 4th, and by extension Tucson. So far. 20oz PBR for $2 all day, and Sonoran White Chocolate ale (Gods Beer of Choice) cold and on tap. 3 stars right there. Heads is good for a few different reasons. As long as you're not there to do coke or tweak, Thursday nights with the 90s DJs is pretty cool. I've seen people get thrown out of the restroom, so do your drugs before hand. Wednesday is probably my favorite night to go to Heads. That's the amateur stand-up night. Usually hit or miss, but this one fat guy has brought the house down with audience put-downs, and it's free, so win-win. Finally, though Heads is far from a sports bar, it's the perfect place to catch a game in a quieter atmosphere with a more relaxed and chill crowd. After the Patti LaBelle concert my hubby and I headed over to 4th avenue to see what was poppin!! The tunes blasting from the outdoor area of this spot immediately caught our attention, so we stopped in and WOW we ended up staying till like 1:15am jammin out to the old school hip hop music blasting all night long, OH and sipping on some pretty darn good Margaritas and Old Fashions...btw that drink (Old Fashion) is CRAZY strong, a couple sips of my mans drink made me warm up immediately! :-) How fun is this place? Super fun last night...just people watching...was entertainment at its finest. The characters out were at times pure comedy and definitely fun to watch...everyone was having fun and we met a couple really cool peeps as well. This is definitely a very nice addition to 4th: a laid-back, non-frat bar with an excellent draft beer selection. When I got back into town, this is the place people wanted me to see. And I don't blame them. I've been in here a few times since, even watching poor UA lose to U-Conn (before screaming obscenities and running out to drunkenly get on my bike) Beer rotates variously but always features something good and something for everyone. They're always well-staffed and Jericho, the big guy who's usually in there, is possibly the best bartender in the city. They have TVs, decent music and, of course, I have to give props to that patio. Sure, it's next door to a damn Dairy Queen, but it's gotta be the biggest patio on 4th. I also came once for cut-throat karaoke as a friend runs it. That was pretty fun but, wow, it gets loud and rowdy and a little stupid as the drunkenness comes to a head (or, shall I say, Mr. Head?). So why take a * away from them? Well, even though they're not really a frat place, they get a lot of idiots in here later on the weekends. Also, I like the concept of the art, pipes, etc. inside of the bar, but why is the bar wavy? It's just that it makes it awkward to sit with people most of the time. They're also a tad pricey, but the good beer selection and the availability of cheap stuff (PBR, anyone?) means that it's nothing to cry over. Also, no happy hour. The only discounts they have is the "happy beer," which they don't always seem to have. It seems like a hell of a coincidence to me that this place opens right about when Plush started to suck. Cool vibes in this place! We were running a table for the Save Beer Drink Water event here last weekend and saw all types of people. We met the owner of the bar, Charlie, the owners of Magpies down the street, and a bunch of cool local characters. They had a live band playing out in the patio which gave the place a rocking atmosphere. The patio looked like a good spot to hang out with the buddies and enjoy being out of the house. The bar was crowded and people were all just having a genuinely good time. They also have some great art around the place that's all for sale. There were a couple pieces I wanted to take home with me! Aside from the paintings on the walls the bar itself doubles as a showcase for smaller pieces that are for sale as well. Mr. Heads is a great, laid back bar with friendly bartenders and a fantastic selection of beer. I think between their beers on draft and in bottles/cans the only bar nearby that has a bigger selection is tap and bottle. However, Mr. Heads also has a great selection of liquor, particularly whiskeys. I especially like the size and location of the patio at this place. You can actually look out and people watch on 4th while you drink your beer (or other beverage). My friends and I like to stop here and grab beer after a long ride on our bikes. I haven't been here late on a weekend yet but I definitely intend to come back and see what their busy Friday nights are like. I also thought it was neat that they have chalkboard listing all the places that deliver to the bar. I'm sure that would be very helpful depending on your degree of inebriation. Overall Mr. Heads is worth the second look, I wouldn't call it my favorite on 4th yet but its definitely one of the bars I intend to visit on a more regular basis now. read more

When the DJ tells you it's 80s/90s hip hop night, be prepared for the inevitable top 40 bullshit like "blurred lines" from Robin Thicke because that's what happened to us on what seemed to be a promising night. It was cool that the second DJ took over and eased into Marvin Gaye (70s?) but that ended when he brilliantly (see sarcasm) mixed in to "Blurred Lines." What's worse? I see the original gangsta (head DJ) take a break to talk to some peeps while something is still spinning (mp3 still on play) and I flag him down to request some Slum Village which I hoped would excite the mother fu$&er. Decent place on a Friday night, the atmosphere was chill but not my kinda scene. I like to dance and the music was just okay but the DJ had to verbally encourage the crowd to dance...the music should get them on the dance floor. They have Left Hand's milk stout and it's fabulous. Love this place on Fridays..not Saturday's. Friday is always a nice throwback DJ so those hip hop jams we all miss. The drinks are average price/size. The bartender with the dreads is really friendly and efficient. All the bartenders are pretty good actually. The outside is very chill so perfect if you want a lowkey night. I wish the bathroom had another stall but that's not a huge issue. Saturday's doesn't have a DJ and they play some random radio that you can barely hear. There was also a man with a pit bull there so the tells you how low lowkey sat is. The dog was cute and well behaved though. Highly recommend Friday if you're looking for something chill with friends or even a first date. It's usually where my group and I start our night. read more
