I can't say enough good things about this company. My mother recently died and I'd never had to…read morearrange anything like this before. Luckily, hospice referred me to DCSV. Not only are their prices VERY reasonable, but they communicated very clearly to me what I needed to do. Everything was handled by phone and e-mail. Kip Austin and Tiffany Rahl were both SO patient with all my questions! Even when I changed my mind at the last minute and asked them to deliver my mom's ashes to my home (because I was trying to avoid an emotion trip out to and back from Chantilly), they were just super nice about it and got me on the schedule for the very next day's delivery! Of course NO ONE wants to face the death of a loved one, but DCSV went above and beyond to make this process as painless as possible. I am beyond grateful for how they handled everything.

Two of them failed to disclose all their fees until I asked additional questions (based on my research), one of them was double the price of the other three, and the fourth one was Direct Cremation Services. I met with a gentleman named Kip, who didn't try to upsell me, and gave me a package that met my requests. The costs were significantly lower than the other three places. He assured me that Direct Cremation Services would take care of everything, and explained both the logistical process and the paperwork/payment process. When my mother passed away, on a weekend, Kip returned my (notification) call, emailed me the link to take care of the documents, and immediately send his team out to transport my mother's remains. He told me the paperwork could wait until Monday. Thereafter, everything went as promised, and I picked up my mother's "cremains" yesterday. An unbelievably smooth process during a difficult time. I can't recommend this place enough.

They were efficient, practical, and reasonably priced. There was never any pressure to upsell or expand the service we wanted. I view this as particularly important because the event itself makes family members feel very vulnerable and unsure of next steps. They know what they're doing and how to do it well. If cremation is the choice, these are the people you want on your side.

Our family situation was complicated, with authorizations needing to come from multiple people, one family member overseas, and a grieving mother who needed extra time and support. At every step, their staff was kind, respectful, and understanding. They answered our questions, guided us through the process, and never made us feel rushed or pressured. After initially working with another provider that added stress during an already overwhelming time, finding the Cremation Society of Maryland felt like finding people who genuinely cared about helping families through difficult circumstances. We are deeply grateful for their professionalism, empathy, and the dignity with which they helped us care for our loved one. Thank you for making a painful process a little easier for our family.

So glad to have found Advent on Yelp!…read more After the passing of my grandmother, we received a list from the folks up at Johns Hopkins for funeral homes/crematories in the area. It was basically just an alphabetically directory of local options--although a few were "recommended" by the hospital, many on their list had disconnected phone numbers or defunct websites and the ones that did not had what seemed like astronomical fees, not to mention some incredibly officious receptionists. After calling about ten options, many over 30 minutes away, I decided to simply look on Yelp for a funeral home within a reasonably proximity to where we were staying--if we were going to have to pay through the nose and interface with laconic staff, at least it would be close by. When I called Advent, it was after their listed business hours, but to my surprise a friendly man named Ray picked up the phone. He said they were closed down for the day, but was happy to answer any questions I had. He gave me immediate estimates for a host of different options as we had not yet decided exactly how we wanted to proceed, beyond doing the initial cremation. Every quote he gave us was about half what the other places had quoted--and many of those places had more stringent policies around when decisions be made by; the fact that Advent was only a ten minute drive, seemed friendly and professional, AND had the most competitive prices, it became a no brainer. The next morning, we came in and met with Della-Reese. What an absolute gem. Just like Ray, she was warm and welcoming. She gave us a tour of the facilities, everything from rooms where a funeral/memorial could be hosted, to urns and biodegradable box options. We appreciated her no-pressure attitude and how sincere she was walking us through paperwork and final steps. The circumstances surrounding having to choose a funeral home will never be ideal, but we were SO lucky to find a place with a team that was compassionate and welcoming--from our first phone call to completing paperwork, to picking up the remains. Highly recommend.

WHAT A JOKE !! My mother passed away on the 15th, and was scheduled for cremation on the 17th…read more.. I was told four times that payment needed to to be in full by the time of her cremation otherwise she would be transported to the state facility, of course I got upset and emotional on the phone with the last phone call and voiced my opinion and emotions, 1 hour later I was called from the director and told that she would have to be removed because I verbally abused her employees and that they have a zero tolerance policy for such Behavior, seriously?? They kicked my deceased mother out of the funeral home because I got emotional and upset what a joke!!!

My mother told me that she and my father had decided to be cremated. My father was was in an…read moreassisted living facility in Glen Burnie and I had looked at a few places that were incredible in price....and that is not a compliment to them, trust me. I came across Simplicity looking for cremation services in Glen Burnie, I had emailed them about pricing as I was told by Hospice of the Chesapeake that I needed to start thinking about arrangements. We had known his condition was getting worse on Saturday, but the Hospice believed he had a few more days....it ended up only being hours. I sent out four emails of established places that HAD email addresses asking for information and prices. In those four emails, the only one that has been returned was from Simplicity. Mind you at the time of sending the email, I was simply trying to get the ball rolling. I happened to open my mail after getting a call from the ALF that my father had expired and I just felt it was a sign from my dad that we should move forward. I phoned and Celia answered the phone. From the moment she did, I just felt a connection to her. She explained the process, answered the questions I had and we proceeded with having my father's physical body picked up by the facility. We made an appointment time and I gave the family the details so that we could see my father off. This is probably one of the questions I should have asked, but having never ever dealt with arrangements of this type, it simply slipped my mind, which is how is someone laid out in a direct to cremation. That said, my father was covered and he was in a room that was much like your normal looking funeral home inside. It's quiet and peaceful, but the facility itself is in a office front/business park. Having said that, the price reflects that. Having seen some of the prices with the biggies around town that have their PDF's posted online, you aren't being soaked for the entire insurance policy that is meant to help your loved one go on without the other. You aren't paying to pull up to a big, pillared building with 90 employees inside directing you to your loved one or maintaining the big cars that are outside. Most of all, if you have a parent who is in a fragile condition like my mother is at the moment, it's easier on them. She didn't feel she could handle all of the people that come with a funeral, so this eased my mind. Celia was professional and understanding of all of our issues, explained the process, we selected an urn and a piece of jewelry for my mom that she can have with a little of my father next to her heart. There is also preplanning which I will be getting into once I get the affairs of my father out of the way. With all the paperwork and calls that you have to make, this will be very helpful when the time comes for my mom. I hugged her when we all departed and I knew from her hug that she is a caring individual.....you just know when something is real and a person cares. In the end, we went to lunch and celebrated my father's life with the family and we will have a celebration at his church next week with those he cared about. Isn't this what it's suppose to be anyway? When it's all said and done, I feel like my father would have rather had *Simplicity* (fitting name) and us enjoy reminiscing about his life, not crying over a coffin because as believers, he is simply not there. Even with planning for celebrations of his life and paying for his cremation, we are nowhere close to what the big guys around town wanted for. If this is something you are thinking for your loved one, this is definitely something to investigate for yourself. As odd as I feel writing about our end, there is just something to be said for this process. I highly recommend Simplicity.

This was finally accomplished on the day of the funeral just before the interment. The delay was completely the fault of the medical facility. Borgwardt's staff was communicative and helpful throughout the entire process. Our family has used Borgwardt's for two prior funerals and has always received superior service. This funeral home is well versed in both Jewish and Christian burial practices and is completely respectful of the families' wishes. Anyone in need of funeral services should consider Borgwardt's Funeral Home.
