She bought and paid for it with her hard earned money in 1981. I returned to the cemetery in November 2025, after finally having the funds to start the process of having my grandmother's crypt inscribed. The service from staff member André Livingston was not only professional, but welcoming, understanding, caring, and compassionate. Taking into consideration my financial status, Mr. Livingston worked out a monthly pay plan to ease the financial burden of not being able to pay all at once (Thank You Again Mr. Livingston!). Afterwards, my son and I toured the peaceful cemetery grounds which are rich in history. The beautiful statues and biblical and historical references to the Battle of Bladensburg during the War of 1812 throughout the cemetery are something to behold, especially my favorite being the relief of the head of Jesus Christ that follows you as you pass back and forth in front of it. My grandmother, my great aunt/her sister, and my pastor who baptized me when I was a child, are entombed in Fort Lincoln Cemetery's Historic Garden Mausoleum.

It WAS absolutely beautiful, surrounded by lovely trees and bushes. Professionally designed. At that time, the cemetery had the in ground clock at the main entrance designed with beautiful flowers. After her death, the cemetery built "THE CROSS" directly across from her grave. Ironically her grave was at the foot of the cross (just across the small street). My father died in 1974 an he is buried next to her. At that time I noticed that a couple of the shrubs had died and were removed. I asked the cemetery if I could replace them, never relizing the nightmare I was in for. They said that I could not. Having moved a lot, I had not been able to visit their graves over the years. I am now 79 years old. I have a son and a 11 year old granddaughte. My son and I went to visit my parents grave a few years ago. IT BROKE MY HEART. They do NOT maintain that part of the cemetery. My family has 10 empty lots there. I don't even want to be buried there. I always thought I would be. The grounds were in shamble. It was like a cow pasture! ALL the beautiful shrubbery was gonE. All the other family plots that were nearby (that I saw when visiting in my young years) were taken down as well. The cross across the street was in shambles, Broken concrete, graves stuck here and there. THE OLDER PART OF THE CEMETERY WAS DISASTROUS! My heart just broke and every time I think of it I want to cry. I took video's with my cell phone. The pictures I see on their website must be of the newer section as nothing that nice exists in the section of my family's plot. This is an excruciating pain. Words just can't describe it. BECAREFUL And know this can and probably will happen to you. PS The picture in my YELP profile says "San Fransisco". Never lived there.

Remember "You" are in charge of your deceased family member not the funeral home. It's totally unnecessary to rip off family members handling the arrangements for an additional 1,000.00 pocket money for the funeral home to handle your loved ones after prearrangements has already been made and "paid for". Also if the removal person shows up to your residence to remove your loved one dressed inappropriately with a hoodie on and casual baggy pants like he's going to a ball game "as a representative of the funeral home" send him away call the funeral Home or another funeral home and "demand" someone that will respect your home and your family that will show up dressed appropriately with at least dress slacks and a decent shirt casual or dress shoes and don't accept them requesting your help to remove your loved one from your residence they should come prepared with two people remember you're paying for this proper service and you tell the funeral home what time to come to your residence to pick up your loved one if you're waiting for other family members to come to your home before your love one is removed from your residence generally they come automatically within 90 minutes but if you need more time let them know when you call to notify them of the passing of your loved one. .

Mount Olivet Cemetery is a cemetery on a hill with views. Walk to the top and spin around. Beyond the views there's much to see and experience at this historic cemetery. First of all, it's the oldest Catholic cemetery in the city. Secondly, it's the final resting place of people who served in politics, but also assassins and spies. Randomly, the first person to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge is buried here too. After you pay your respects, walk to either Mother Rucker's for subs or over to Ivy City for the breweries and distilleries.

Many Franciscans are buried there, which is probably connected to the nearby Franciscan Monastery.
