What a disappointment the Chesapeake House has become. My $31.00 fried oyster plate was not what it use to be, fewer oysters that were of mediocre quality. What was once my fan fav, the cinnamon rolls and hush puppies, served as you waited for your waitress and food were cold, dry, and stiff. The side salad was very small, but the dressing was good. The flatware was a bit unclean appearing and the side of fish stew was tiny and not great. The reservation went well, but the waitress was new and I really wasn't looking to be a training party, but she was polite. I'll be trying another restaurant next time. read more

You have to try this place! We got there about 20minutes early. While waiting in the parking lot we were surprised at how many cars were coming in. As we were standing in line a few minutes before they open a Bus pulled in full of people. Not a problem at all. Within 15 minutes we were all seated and drinks and Cinnamon Rolls & Hushpuppies basket was brought. Which was great. Very organized! We both ordered off the Senior menu of Fan-tailed Shrimp dinner. We returned to the Chesapeake House. This time we were there later, around 645 pm. My daughter thoroughly loved her spaghetti. My husband got the fish stew and rice meal--he wasn't super hungry so it was the perfect portion for him. I wasn't super hungry either so I got the she crab soup and the appetizer peel & eat shrimp. The shrimp were incredible! Well seasoned and tasty. The she crab soup is delicious--very creamy and well seasoned. I would recommend ordering it no matter the weather outside! My parents were less than thrilled this time with their meal. They got a fried flounder and clam strip meal to split. The clam strips were lacking flavor. The breading had flavor, not even salt. The potato was not throughly cooked and quite hard in some places. Our server seemed overwhelmed but tried to keep up with drink refills and such. We have visited the Chesapeake House a number of times and we have had better in the past. Sorry to say they have gone down hill in every aspect of the restaurant. Service sub par. I was asked how the diner was, good? and I said not really. Fish was dry and more skin than I expected. Waitress replies 'that's the way it should be' Really! She had no concern what the meal was. Nothing more said. No drink fill ups. Just and over priced bill, a $23.00 fried fish 6" long! I get a $5 fish fry bigger than that! Sorry Chesapeake we will not be returning. We arrived in MBSC after a 12 hour drive and we wanted some of the traditional food we love in this area. This restaurant was close to where we were staying. We have been there many times and love the atmosphere and as usual the service was great. We were there later in the evening on a Saturday in the off season and we were seated immediately. The service was quick and friendly we had two servers watching our drinks and taking orders. The bread service here is great with sweet corn dodgers (hush puppies) and cinnamon rolls. We had the house salads and they were fresh and my blue cheese dressing was wonderful. I had the shrimp platter, soooo much food! I live in a land locked state and can pay $30 bucks for 10 shrimp so I was amazed and could not finish my plate. The shrimp were hot and sweet, just a bit chewy, but still very good. The baked potato was fluffy and tasty I love the unlimited butter and sour cream on the table. The hubby had the fried seafood platter. He liked everything on the plate, I had a bite of his deviled crab and it was outstanding. This is place has a great laid back atmosphere. My first time here. They bring you a basket of hush puppies and cinnamon rolls. The hush puppies were good kind of tasted like cake. The cinnamon rolls were dry, but I was told they are a staple of the restaurant. I ordered the combination platter with clam strips, the small shrimp and fish fingers. I ate a few pieces of the clam strips and it tasted like I was chewing dirt after so those are no for me. The fish fingers were very light and flaky and had a very good taste. I asked for ranch for my salad dressing and was brought thousand island and when I asked another waitress for it, she told our waiter, my daughter read his lips and he said "whatever". Needless to say, the other young lady ended up bringing me the dressing that I originally ordered so that customer service experience put a bad taste in my mouth. I also ordered onion rings for appetizer. They were OK. Every meal comes with the fish stew..... it's like vegetable soup/tomato based with seafood in it. It's an acquired taste. read more

This place is amazing. For starters rather than the usual bread plate most restaurants serve this place serves hush puppies and cinnamon rolls. The hush puppies were fried to perfection and were amazing. The cinnamon rolls were great as well. I honestly went back our last day in Myrtle Beach to get the hush puppies and cinnamon rolls for takeout so we could have them on our trip back home. I had the classic seafood platter broiled. It was flavored well and didn't really need sauce. The meal comes with a cub of fish stew and a salad. Nice restaurant, ocean feel, not touristy, just nice. Noise was a little loud as servers were gathered near our table. Our guy was still in training as he was checked behind by more experienced personnel. He was good, friendly, informative, polite. Our orders were correct and fresh, and hot off the cookers. Fantail shrimp, fried, about 15-20, 2 senior flounder dishes and a seafood platter. All had baked potatoes, very hot and house salads. A shrimp cocktail as an appetizer. The 6 shrimp in the cocktail were melt in your mouth tender. No fishy smell or taste, very good. Flounder dishes had 1 piece of flounder about the length of the plate, crispy and hot. The seafood platter consisted of oysters (medium size), fantail shrimp (about 10) and scallops as a substitute, $5 extra. We were surprised the number of scallops about 12-14, about the size of a ping pong ball. Had to cut into quarters and halves, cut wonderfully, and buttery. Orders come with complimentary hush puppies and cinnamon rolls. Nice surprise and helped clean your palette. It had been many years since we had eaten there so it good to remember the quality of good seafood. read more

I am a resident of Myrtle Beach. I had dinner at Chesapeake House March 23, 2026. I will never go back. There are numerous seafood restaurants in Myrtle Beach that are better. They should send their cooks (they don't have a chef) to Biminis or Big Mike's Soul Food to learn how to cook. Their hushpuppies are terrible. Their shrimp and flounder are mediocre. And there was a group of 15 elderly visiting golfers as boisterous as a frat party kegger that made conversation at our table impossible. Spend your money elsewhere read more

The issues with this meal are all on the kitchen and management. Just to be clear, I own a restaurant in Boston for 16 years. I know a little bit about food. The salads were warm and lettuce was in remission. It had completely given up. The crisp left it hours before it was even served. The ribeye steak was very thin and bland. It was cooked to the right temperature, but had the flavor of shoe leather. The shrimp were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The beef tips have to be the worst i have ever tasted. Zero flavor or spices. Looked like oversized ground beef that was cooked last week. The plain Baked potato and decaf coffee were exceptional. My wife and I stopped in to have an evening meal after a long drive to Myrtle Beach. We had eaten here about 10 years ago and wanted to try it again. I ordered the Fried Sampler Platter and my wife had the Fantail Shrimp. I had forgotten how large the platters were and we had more food than we could eat. I enjoyed the variety and my wife kept stealing from my plate when I wasn't looking. Everything was very tasty. As it was later in the day, our server seemed to pay more attention to cleaning up and next day prep than waiting on us. We were not ignored, just not a lot of attention. I recommend coming earlier in the day, but be prepared for a crowd. The restaurant is old school with lots of dark wood and mounted fish on the walls. Chesapeake is well worth the trip. read more

When we visit the Grand Strand we always look forward to dining at the Chesapeake House. Even though I am not a fan of the fish stew, the entrees I have enjoyed are well prepared. I especially enjoy the combo's that have fried shrimp and scallops. Entrees are reasonably priced compared to offerings at other restaurants in the area. Ample quantities are served. We have been going to Chesapeake House while on vacation in MB for years! We've tried loads of other seafood places in the area, and not one has been better. We didn't think we could love it any more than we do, but this visit we also had a fantastic server, Kayden. She was attentive, helpful, and just plain fun to chat with during our meal. Hadn't been to this place in 20 years. Was in the neighborhood after a comedy show at comedy cabana. The wait staff were superb. The complimentary hush puppies were a welcome treat and the cinnamon buns we took home for a treat. Since this place is in restaurant row, it's not hard to find. The fountain in the pond was relaxing and the wait wasn't long at all. I had the shrimp and grits which did not disappoint. Gotta try this place. Kid friendly too. read more

My husband and I had dinner at Chesapeake House with family one weeknight in May while visiting the NMB area. They seated us in the back, overlooking the water with a lovely view. They serve a basket of homemade hush puppies and warm cinnamon rolls with the included salads. The hush puppies were of the sweet variety, and perfect with the whipped butter. I appreciated that they provided something different, like cinnamon rolls, but sadly, I've had better. The salads were small, but just fine. I enjoyed my ranch dressing. They also give you a small cup of fish stew, but I wasn't a big fan. I'm glad CH offers low-carb entrees after enjoying those hush puppies! For our entrees, I had the grilled fantail shrimp with their vegetable of the day, green beans. My shrimp were spectacular--they had so much flavor, and there were so many of them! The green beans were also really good, and tasted like they were cooked in ham hock. My husband had their Chesapeake baked fish, with the green beans. He really enjoyed his dish as well. Our server (Matthew) was fantastic. He was attentive, helpful, and handled our party of six quite easily. I appreciated that they served me a small bottle of Ruffino Prosecco, with enough for almost two small champagne glasses. It was not my favorite brand, but still tasty and a generous serving. Even though the wait was predicted to be longer, we were sat much quicker than expected. Everyone we encountered was friendly and personable. We love southern hospitality! Our waitress was so sweet. Very efficient. The cinnamon rolls and hush puppies that came out first were warm and fresh. I recommend eating these right away. The tartar sauce was SO GREAT. Now, it was very oniony and we like that. Be warned. The entrees and accompaniments were just slightly missing the mark for the price point. My husband got the broiled fantail shrimp with rice and coleslaw. I got the combination platter with broiled flounder and fried oysters and fantail shrimp with a baked potato and side salad. There was also a small serving of fish stew for each. The salad and fish stews were quite small, I expected a bit more. The shrimp for both of us was really tasty. Flounder lacked in seasoning but was cooked nicely. Overall, it was pretty good, but I would think for an $80 meal, some of the food could have been better/larger portions. Am always surprised it has a 3 1/2 rating when we have found the service and food is as good if not better than most of the places we have been to. The service has always been as good if not better than most restaurants and our food was of high quality and prepared very well.. It does sit in a very old building by the water and doesn't present itself as tourist place. But, we enjoy the courteous service and that it simply does things better than most. Living (not too far) from the Texas coast; we know what good seafood tastes like. Chesapeake House is wonderful! When we were seated the wait person placed a basket of hushpuppies, and cinnamon rolls on the table. She took our drink order, and hurried off. Soon she returned to take our food order. My wife and I shared the seafood sampler, (Flounder, shrimp, oysters, scallops and deviled crab). Accompanied by coleslaw, and black-eyed peas. My wife doesn't eat much. I was determined not to leave any of the seafood behind! I left sooo full; but definitely happy. The final bill was good too. My suggestion is if you are within twenty minutes of Chesapeake House you need to eat here. read more
