Waited 30 mins for a table for 4 at 6:30 pm, and it was worth the wait. Vibe is lively but not super loud. A good mix of a crowd - couples on date night, families with young kids, large birthday party groups. They have inside, outside and overflow seating in the bakery/bistro next door. Food: this was one of those rare scenarios where everything was delicious and complemented everything else so well. Ribeye steak and oysters à la Heidi were definitely standouts. Such a delicious and unique take on oysters Rockefeller. The heirloom tomato and burrata salad was perfectly summery, with juicy peaches and tomatoes with prosciutto that's crisped up like bacon. The desserts were very fun too, our server recommended the pineapple bread pudding ... it was incredible. The macaron ice cream sandwiches felt like a very elevated take on a regular cookie sandwich. Our waitress Antonia was wonderful. She greeted us warmly when we arrived and we had our drinks and starters in no time. Hubby liked the pimento cheese and crackers. It was nice to get this in lieu of bread, etc. The oysters were delicious. Fresh, large and delicious. I especially liked the grated horseradish. The tuna carpaccio was good a nice combo of sweet and savory. The stuffed flounder was delicious as was the accompanying asparagus and whipped potatoes. The Aleppo tuna was also delicious with coconut rice and asparagus. Both mains I would get again. The key lime pie was one of the best I've had and I love that it was a mini pie. We got four slices out of it, so we took half home. Hubby ate all the bread pudding and would have licked the bowl. I loved the coconut ice cream that came with it. We came to this sea themed restaurant for a Birthday celebration. We started with some signature cocktails which were OK. Then we had the she crab soup, house salad, oysters and fish bites. The Fish bites and salad were delicious. They also served a complimentary cheese dip with chips(stale). For our entrees we tried the blackened salmon, catch of the Day(flaky white fish that I cannot recall the name of, lol), Aleppo crusted Tuna(they loved it), roasted chicken breast, and the Angry clams. Amazing seafood place with great drinks and food. Not touristy at all like a lot of other place you'll find by the beach. There was a bit of a wait but we were seated way quicker than expected. We were also allowed to order drinks at the bar and sit out on the patio while we waited. We were seated in the covered patio section, which was actually very nice because it was quieter and more intimate plus provided a great view of the sunset sky. The menu was diverse and included recommended wine pairings with each entree. They gave us complimentary crackers and pimento cheese dip which were delicious and such a unique starter item. While Myrtle Beach has an abundance of chain restaurants and those aspiring to that status, Hook & Barrel stands apart for freshness and service. A large spot, right on the main strip, they sport a terrific HH with bites and sips. Be warned however, seating is limited and the specials are only at the bar, so arrive early. As mentioned the large dining room, is surrounded by an equally large wrap around porch area that in warmer weather, would be lovely to sit and sip, and/or even have your apps. As the menu is extensive, we were unsure of what to do with so many tasty looking options. At the end of the day, we spied a neighboring table consuming the Seafood Tower and though, oh my, that does look good! So while we started with a wedge, that was both plentiful and adorned with the right amount of blue cheese crumbles, cherry tomatoes, scalliions and a buttermilk dressing (bacon on the side for my wife to enjoy), the star was unquestionably, the seafood tower!!! Six half-shell Oysters, large shrimp, clams, a crab dip, some whitefish and a 4 oz lobster tail. Oh my was it delicious. While the tower arrived with a small portion of horseradish, upon request we were amply supplied. The only nick we had on our experience was that we had a lovely server, who has had a long stint at the restaurant, and while she did a great job, it was obvious that she was running between too many tables. Noting this in a message to the management, I promptly received a follow-up phone call where it was confirmed that they were indeed short staffed for the evening (being off-season, probably many staff aren't on the schedule). The good news was that my comment was not directed at the wonderful lady, but was acknowledged as a need to better support staff when as busy as they were. Hook and Barrel does have us hooked, so next time at the Beach, we'll be barreling over for another dinner (sorry for the pun). read more

Here's what we tried: * Oysters - served at the perfect temperature and absolutely delicious. * She-crab soup - very rich and creamy with soft, tasty crab. They were kind enough to offer to split the bowls for us. * Crab pasta - full of great complementary flavors and cooked perfectly. * Smoked shrimp and grits - rich, flavorful, and cooked beautifully (a local favorite for a reason!). * Mussels - delicious, and every single shell was open. * Crab-stuffed flounder - absolutely amazing! We came to H&B for dinner to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday while she was visiting from out of town. About a month in advance, I spoke with the manager, who assured us they would be able to honor our request to have Antonija as our server again since she had been absolutely wonderful during our previous visits. We were a little disappointed when we arrived and found out we weren't seated in her section. That said, it turned out to be a pleasant surprise because Bart was our server, and he was outstanding! He was friendly, attentive, and made our celebration special. We also tried several new dishes, and everyone was very happy with their meals. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be back. I seriously recommend the small plates--they are way better than your typical bar food! The Jumbo Shrimp are huge and juicy, and the lightly fried Fish Bites are perfectly crispy. We returned to Hooked and Barrel at Duckfish/Barefoot Landing hoping for one of the excellent meals we've had here before. Unfortunately, this restaurant continues to be very hit-or-miss. The evening started off well. Our server, Tiana, was outstanding--friendly, upbeat, attentive, and very informative. She was easily the highlight of the evening and handled everything professionally. We enjoyed the house-made cracker with pimento cheese, six North Carolina oysters, and a Burgáns Albariño that paired perfectly with them. My braised short ribs with mashed potatoes and collards were excellent--tender, flavorful, and one of the better dishes I've had here. Unfortunately, my wife's corvina was another story. The skin was so rubbery and tough that she couldn't even cut through it. This is not the first time we've had problems here. On a previous visit, the scallops were sent back three separate times and came out rubbery every time. When Hooked and Barrel gets it right, it can be terrific. But when they miss, they miss badly, and it too often seems to happen with my wife's meal. Because of Tiana and the quality of my dinner, I'm giving this visit 3 stars. We may give it one more chance because the restaurant has so much potential, but consistency is becoming a real issue. read more

I chose this restaurant based on the good reviews. Unfortunately the food was TERRIBLE! I will never understand why a restaurant doesn't make their ranch homemade. The bottled ranch dressing was awful it absolutely ruined the salad. The restaurant closed at 9pm and we were still eating at the bar and a server was spraying cleaner directly at our food. Which I thought was extremely rude! Also the wine is poured from a tap (which is great! But it smelled like pure vinegar!) After a long day of volleyball, we treated ourselves to dinner at Hook & Barrel, and it was one of those rare meals where every single thing was excellent. We started with a pound of steamed shrimp, which was fresh, sweet, and perfectly cooked. The wedge salads were outstanding, with high-quality blue cheese and thick-cut bacon, while the Caesar salad featured freshly shaved Parmesan and was a hit as well. For entrées, the crab-stuffed flounder was exceptional, served with perfectly prepared mashed potatoes and asparagus. The crab cakes were some of the best we've had, and the Ocean Fettuccine with lobster tail was loaded with seafood, perfectly cooked pasta, and an incredible sauce that my daughter practically inhaled after a full day of competition. We finished with key lime pie, which was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. What really set the experience apart was that there were no weak spots. The food was outstanding from start to finish, the service was warm and attentive without being intrusive, and the atmosphere was elegant, comfortable, and welcoming. This wasn't an inexpensive dinner, but it was worth every penny. As my father would say, it was a true "blowout dinner"--the kind of meal and family memory you'll still be talking about years later. He was incredibly kind, accommodating, and really knew the menu well. Dining out with two toddlers can sometimes be a challenge, but he went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and that our experience was enjoyable. The food was amazing. The bourbon maple bacon is absolutely to die for--so good! I also ordered the shrimp and grits and they were fantastic. The grits were creamy and full of flavor, not gritty at all, which made the dish even better. They also went the extra mile to make my birthday feel special. Myrtle Beach is really upping its dining game and we've come a long way since vacationing as a kid. This is one of those game changing additions. I'm so happy I finally got to try this place! It's been on my list for years and it did not disappoint. First things first, definitely make a reservation. It was slam packed on Monday night, but well worth the wait. You can walk up to the bar and order a drink to take outside while you wait, but must consult the host stand for bar seating. The outside area is so cozy and cute, with swings and fire pits. I started with the Old Fashioned. The candied bacon set this off wonderfully! I also had a Peach Bourbon Smash and highly recommend! It wasn't too sweet and the fresh peaches were a welcomed treat. My friend and I split the She Crab soup. It's the best I've ever had! So fresh, well seasoned and the delicious bits of crab were lovely. We also split the Burrata salad and Crab Stuffed Flounder. 10/10 no notes! I really enjoyed the guajillo bisque, it was a unique addition to a traditional plate. My other friend had the fish bites and those were outstanding. The fresh flaky fish, light breading, and hints of spice then dipped in the remoulade. Chef's kiss. Our waitress, Kim, was amazing!
