Came quickly and went above and beyond with the repair. Proactively fixed several other pieces of siding that needed more nails.

Yep, another five star review for American Windows…read more We received three estimates for replacing three windows, a French door and a picture window. American Window undercut the estimates of the other two vendors by a substantial margin. We also really liked they only asked for a modest down payment. Jay was our sales contact at American Windows and he was absolutely great. He has an engaging personality, and kept all his commitments to us. We appreciated that when installation day came, he swung by to ensure all was going well. Oh, how did the installation go? It was fantastic. Not only did the windows and door come earlier than promised, the American Windows crew came on time and worked quickly and professionally. We were amazed that the whole job only took 4 1/2 hours to complete. The windows and door materials are high quality and we are very satisfied with the results.

We decided to drive an hour out to their showroom without calling first. Even though they weren't open yet and are by-appointment-only, Phil greeted us without hesitation. It turned out they couldn't take on our small window sill repair since they didn't install the original window, but Phil helped us anyway! He gave us repair ideas, explained potential causes, pointed us toward the right tools, and gave us contacts who could help. To top it off, his cuddly dog Wilson kept us company, and Phil even recommended a local spot for lunch since he knew we had a long drive. We are completely speechless at his kindness and support, despite not even being paying customers. Based on this first impression, we would work with Phil any day. The world needs more people like him!

I am retired, but up until a few years ago I held a commercial/residential Home Improvement…read moreContractor's license in Virginia. I have never installed a complete roof. First of all, Home Genius Exteriors (HGE) is not a roofing company. It is a nationally-franchised marketing and sales company that writes contracts for roof replacements and then subcontracts with actual roofing companies to do the work. The HGE people you deal with may never have installed a roof in their life. You are placing a lot of trust in people who, in my experience, are clueless about the subtle aspects of creating a waterproof roof. Although they say they "vetted" their subcontractors, that is a hollow promise. I would not recommend HGE to anyone unless they themselves are experienced in construction techniques and have the time to oversee all of the work. To begin with, the salesman, J. Holm, was definitely high pressure with the usual scare tactics (you NEED to repair your roof immediately), and an offer of a reduced cost if I signed immediately. I went ahead and signed because under Virginia's "Right to Cancel" law you have 3 days to cancel the contract. Once signed, I never talked to the sales guy again. My case was passed to a welcome lady, then to a lady who said she was the project coordinator, and then to the first "project manager" (PM). I never met any of those people, but they assured me that "their crew" would satisfy all of my worries. Yah, sure. The HGE PM arranged to have all the materials delivered to my house. The PM said "their crew" would arrive at 7:00 am the next day, and indeed they did. It was then I learned that they did not work at HGE; they were subcontractors. I asked them to check the weather because it was supposed to rain. They did, and said they didn't work in the rain, and left. The HGE "project manager" (PM) called me later and said the workers would arrive two days later. He never visited my home. I covered the material with a tarp myself. Two days later at 7:00AM the workers did arrive and said their boss was ill, but they said they would start work anyway. I was astounded that HGE did not have a project manager on duty to oversee the work. I called the HGE PM (I think I woke him up) and asked who was in charge and how could I be sure that my worries would be addressed. The HGE PM told me that he was "busy," so he was handing my case off to another PM who might stop by noon! It took a couple of phone calls and "convincing" language to get the two managers (the new guy, Issac Agyemang, from HGE and the subcontractor) to show up and explain to the Spanish-speaking workers exactly what I wanted. Once the managers arrived, the work began smoothly. The HGE PM remained on site for at most two hours then left and was not seen again until he came back to get paid two days later. There was no supervision of the subcontractor by any HGE person. The job took two days to complete, and fortunately I had the time and expertise to oversee the work. When the workers were just finishing the last step, I walked around the roof with the subcontractor boss. It all looked very well-done except that the vent boots were the wrong size for the copper vent pipes that I have. I pointed out to the subcontractor that there was a ¼-inch gap between the boot and the pipe, making it not waterproof. The kind of boots that they installed are very good silicone ones, but HGE had sent them the wrong boots, and the subcontractor didn't catch it until I pointed it out to them. Had I not been familiar with basic construction, the subcontractor (and HGE) would have left me with a leaking roof. The boot problem led to a seven-day back and forth as to what to do about the issue. I will not bore you with the details but suffice it to say it was very stressful for me and my wife. The HGE PM was totally clueless about the proper way to install the boots over copper pipes. I had to point him to the manufacturer's website that contained a detailed YT video on how to do the job. Rather than doing it according to the manufacturer's recommendation, the HGE PM and the subcontractors did their way. I gave up and let it pass. I'm guessing, but I think that of the money I paid to HGE, only about 15-20% went to the subcontractor, 20-30% for the supplies, and 50-60% went to HGE. The deceitful aspect is that HGE claims that these subcontractors are "their crews," which they are not. Eventually the work was done correctly. I hope that no one else has to rely on the technical incompetence of HGE to install their roof. You will not know ahead of time which roofing company will actually install your roof. Find a local roofing company; not a franchise like HGE. NOTE THE REPLY FROM HGE. They claim they have never heard of me or contract # 276105

My project was complicated because my 1980s drywall shafts were the wrong size for modern solar blinds. Instead of just "making it work" or creating a huge mess with drywall dust, Zach proposed a brilliant custom solution: building a clean birch veneer box with custom trim. It looks stunning and kept my house completely dust-free. What impressed me most was Zach's integrity. During the install, a small piece of my old plastic molding snapped. Instead of ignoring it, Zach took full ownership and replaced the trim on both skylights with upgraded foam-backed wood molding at his own expense to ensure everything was airtight and uniform. It is not a simple fix but an upgrade, for free. See the attached before/after pictures and the broken plastic. Like most customers, I contacted a few contractors before selecting Winfield Builders. Their price is VERY reasonable, and the communication through Yelp was professional and transparent. It is rare to find a contractor who cares this much about the details. If you want a crew that is honest, skilled, and delivers a beautiful finish, call Zach. 1000% recommendation!

Zach made a strong impression from the start--when he came out to inspect my roof and I told him of a problem area, he went up on the roof to look at it! The larger size has made a huge difference, as they're less likely to get clogged. My home is in good shape thanks to Winfield Builders!

This experience was that bad…read more Roofworks advertises "Free Estimates" on their website, which is why we contacted them for a simple roof repair estimate after tree damage. We were clear from the beginning that we only needed to know how much it would cost to repair the roof. Whether a homeowner pays cash or later chooses to involve insurance is the homeowner's decision. What happened instead was unprofessional and, based on the circumstances, felt dishonest. They sent someone out who only conducted an interior walk-through and never accessed the roof at all. This is a standard Baltimore rowhome. A roofing company should know before arriving that roof access is required to provide an estimate. We were then told they would need to return with another person, making the first visit unnecessary and a waste of time. We later had a second scheduled appointment, which they canceled the night before, stating they had not received a State Farm insurance breakdown. This explanation does not make sense. Insurance paperwork has nothing to do with determining roof height, ladder size, measurements, or providing an estimate. If the first visit had been handled properly, they would already know what ladder was required. Despite this, the responsibility was shifted back onto the property owner. Our public adjuster had already provided a letter from the insurance company acknowledging expected liability, but even that should not matter. A free estimate is not dependent on insurance, and we could have chosen to pay cash. This resulted in our time being wasted twice. What is especially concerning is the lack of pricing transparency. The scope of work and cost to repair a roof do not change based on who pays. Conditioning an estimate on insurance documentation gives the impression that pricing may be handled differently for insurance-based jobs versus cash-paying customers. That lack of transparency came across as dishonest and misleading. ADA concern: I am a person with a disability, and scheduling appointments requires advance planning and accommodations. Repeated last-minute cancellations and shifting explanations created a disproportionate burden and showed a lack of consideration for accessibility needs. If Roofworks only accepts insurance-driven work or cannot provide a basic estimate without insurer paperwork, that should be clearly disclosed upfront. Buyer beware: Based on this experience, I would not recommend Roofworks to anyone seeking a straightforward estimate, transparent pricing, reliable scheduling, or reasonable ADA accommodation.

If their customers do find issues, I hope they'll also be more responsive to concerns. A few of the issues: * Installed the wrong range hood vent and refused to replace it for over a month, even with written proof from the manufacturer that the vent was insufficient for the purpose. * Repaired a rafter and charged us for it without any prior communication. This should have required a permit and inspection. * Initially omitted kickout flashing that was explicitly included in our quote. On the other side of the house, thought this caulk monstrosity was acceptable for kickout flashing (photo). * When we pointed out the kickout flashing issue, the install follow-up guy was surprised to hear we were getting our siding replaced (which would have affected the flashing install). Their sales rep knew this and must not have told the team. * Initially installed a different ridge vent on part of the roof and only replaced it when we pointed out that it looked different. Follow-up guy said the install team must have used a random piece from their truck instead of what was specified in our contract (photo 2). * Customer service was poor beyond the sales quote. Installation team did not even tell us when they were done or do a walkthrough, just left. For $19k, I expected much better from the start. I recommend finding someone with a better process for ensuring quality.
