Not only was I incorrectly scheduled on a day reserved for laser surgery (I was having standard surgery), but my lens selection was wrongly noted. Thank goodness we went over the procedure before a surgical mistake was made. Then there is the billing Assistant who works from home but confessed she did not know how to use the 'work' phone purchased for her; especially troublesome since work-at-home requires communication with the outside world. Then I noticed while on the Patient Portal, my husband was not listed as the designee for life/death decisions; instead another patient (including phone number) was listed. When I called him, he was surprised/amazed....never heard of me, let alone knew he would be required to make such decisions on my behalf. As I said before, Dr. Thadani is a competent and personable surgeon, but if you choose this practice for service, make sure they dot all the i's and cross all the t's. Your peace of mind requires extra diligence on your part.

I was told that I did not have an appointment, although my wife and I had scheduled both of our appointments consecutively and they did say she had an appointment. The rude clerk continued to insist that there was no record of me having an appointment. Indeed, the clerk's hostility would drive patients away from this practice. Both my wife and I are going to find a different practice as the level of hostility was unacceptable. As a practicing physician I am often asked what practices in the area I would or would not recommend. I will make a point of advising others to avoid this practice.

Make sure they give eyeglass prescriptions at the end of the eye examination without the patient having to ask for it and without charging an extra fee for the prescription. Finally an hour or so past your actual appointment time, the doctor arrives for a 10 minute visit. This was not a one time occurrence. It happens every time and their excuse is they are short staffed, people called off. Another patient in the waiting room with an appointment at 910 was still waiting there at 950. Wonder when she got out of there! The waiting is the same at the Hagerstown office. Even though the doctors are great, I will be looking for another place for my eye care because Maryland Vision Institute cares more about squeezing in as many people in a day as they can, with no regard to the patient's time.

My husband was diagnosed with glaucoma but Dr. Hodges told him he was out of treatment options so his vision became severely degraded. Dr. Hodges seemed kind and personable but dismissed our concerns and told us there was nothing that could be done. Out of frustration about our continued vision loss, we set up an appointment with another ophthalmologist for a second opinion. She disagreed with Dr Hodges' assessment - she immediately changed eye meds, provided lots of options, and much more hope, for saving our vision. Already we are seeing better, but unfortunately, you can't turn back all the existing damage. We wasted much too much time and we lost way too much of our vision trusting Dr. Hodges.
