Not sure why, but a lot of this is the second BBQ pork place I've been to in SF that is called "Cheung Hing". Why do so many BBQ pork places want to call themselves that? Perhaps this is one of the mysteries of life that are better left without an answer. Anyways, ordered take-out for roast duck over rice from this place. The roast duck was very juicy, and the portions was big. Incredibly, the cabbage was also very flavorful as well, which was a pleasant surprise! Thank you, Chris!!!! If it weren't for Chris, I would give this place a minus star rating. Chris saved the day and understood the problem when I called back about an order that didn't get packed. He made the effort to look at the receipt and did some calculations and agreed that there was an oversight. He then asked me to come back and pick up the order. So far so good! This was on moving day, so I couldn't go back right away. Note: 1. That of the six items I ordered, three were vegetarian/no meat, and three were chicken. 2. I ordered the chicken stuff over the telephone and once I got there, I ordered three more veg things. 3. I've included pics of the items I ordered and the bill. I go back yesterday, Chris is not present BUT the same lady at the counter that day was present AND boy did she argue with me! She insisted that I ordered only 5 items. All this took 25mins of convincing! Not fair right!!!?? I wouldn't come here again. Everything we got was very below average. Lemon chicken: way too lemony, and not crispy enough for chicken that's supposed to be fried. I think they put too much sauce which dampened what was supposed to be crispy chicken. I personally couldnt eat more than 2 pieces, but my boyfriend seemed to be okay with it. Pan fried noodle: this was probably the best dish we had but it was still nothing special. They did have a good variety of different meats (seafood and chicken). Serving size was generous, enough for leftovers the next day. Peking Duck: this is where most of my complaints come from. This is not how Peking duck should be. The parts you're supposed to put in the bun should come without any bones. Any pieces with bones should be eaten separately, but they didn't take the time to separate the meat from the bones to put into the buns. As a result we had to tear the meat with our teeth off the bones and then put the meat in the buns. The meat was also very fatty, which was disappointing. This review isn't directly about the food really but owner of this restaurant which might indirectly affect the food: The owner frequents the Saturday Millbrae farmers market where she not only raids the vendors' trash (I.e. the food you may be eating) but steals vegetables for herself by putting it into her recyclable bag and walking off. A note to the owner: if you own a few of these restaurants, which I am sure means you are making a profit, please stop stealing from farmers market vendors who are trying to make a living by selling the vegetables that you are stealing. This is a typical HKG Chinese deli, although, there are a lot of other good delis in HKG better than this place. We had the "Peking duck" that was more like a regular whole roast duck with scallions, hoisin and boas on the side. To their credit, the duck was good but just don't call it Peking duck because it's simply not. The beef with enoki mushrooms claypot was uber salty. The salt and spicy fish was meh. The Peking spareribs was 40% on the fatty side. The gai lan was fresh and crunchy. We ordered other dishes but they were not worth mentioning. The lady who took our order had us wait for her to take our order for quite a long time. I have to add that the place was not full and there were a number of vacant tables. When she came over, she was unapologetically short tempered and grouchy. We didn't feel welcome at all. To add insult to injury, she added an 18% tip (almost $40) to our bill. Definitely not earned. For us, this is an example of the Bay area's tipping culture gone bonkers. So to sum it all up, 1 star for the duck and other deli meats; 1 star for the gai lan; 0 for the service. Of course the Noriega location (the original is the best) but even the South San Francisco one has way better roast pork than this one. First off I believe this Cheung Hing charges more. Secondly, most importantly, they are so stingy! Most of the pork pieces have bones and the skin isn't even as crispy/edible even compared to SSF. They put in a bunch of cabbage at the bottom to fool you on the portion as well. None of which either location does. My favorite dish is the 2 item bbq combination and it comes with rice! You can choose from different types of meats. I usually get bbq pork and roast pork! I have also tried the soy sauce chicken and roast duck. They are all really good and fresh! Before COVID, you can also see them cut the meat. Parking is sometimes hard, such as on weekends, but there is street parking and parking lots nearby! Every time I visit the bay I try to make it over here. It's the type of place that might scare away a lot of people, perhaps a little bit intimidating. Let me help outsiders, an easy winner for carnivores is the three meat over rice plate. Duck, roast pork, and barbecue pork... you can't lose. Or get it with noodles. The Peking spare ribs are pretty awesome too. Of course if you're more adventurous try some of the other things. Came here to eat with my family and some friends. The food here is pretty good, and decent potion size as well. I also like the fact that their dishes are rather clean. I've been to restaurants before where the dish sets are sticky and gross. The pecking duck here is really good, but I do think it was a little on the salty side. Also, a plus for having a free public parking lot nearby. What I also liked about this place is that their sweet and sour pork has no breading. It's just the meat and the sauce. My new favorite place for family dinners. Call ahead of time if you have a large party and they will reserve a table for you and there are smaller tables for smaller parties as well. The staff is generally running around so it can be difficult to flag one down if you need extra napkins or more tea, however they will get to you eventually. For an ABC who's Cantonese is limited, I appreciate how they don't brush me off or roll their eyes at me as I'm struggling to tell them my order. The food is good, it's reasonably priced and the portions are decent. If you're ordering a regular order but have more than 10 people at the table, the waitress will suggest getting another half of the order so there would be enough food to go around which I appreciate. It sucks when there isn't enough food to go around especially when it's so tasty. I would definitely consider the restaurant as clean for Chinese restaurant standards although I haven't had the need to use their restrooms yet so I can't vouch for that. I didn't realize they had a deli in the back of the main room but during the evening there aren't as many people picking up orders so it's hardly noticeable. Even with the deli the place is still clean. Parking can be a bit of a struggle during peak dinner hours. I've gone as far as parking next to Safeway/Trader Joe's and walked to the restaurant. The dishes I like are honey walnut shrimp, shrimp and scrambled egg chow fun, beef fried rice, and roast pork, even tho they gave me really fatty pork last time I ordered. I'm not a big fan of their veggie dish though. The eggplant with fish is very sour and greasy, the bitter melon not fresh at all ( I could see small molded spots on the skin), and bugs in Chinese broccoli.
