Roasted duck and cuttlefish
Joanne L.

You know a place is legit when it only has around a 3-star rating. This spot reminded me so much of home with its authentic Canton-style roasted meats. Everything we ordered was delicious, from the ginger scallion chicken to the roasted pork, roasted duck, and cuttlefish. The flavors were comforting and traditional without trying too hard, and the portions were incredibly generous. The two-item BBQ combo could easily feed two people. This is the kind of no-frills spot where the food speaks for itself.

I haven't had good roast duck in awhile so I planned on getting roast duck for my snack tonight. Two of the places I wanted to order from were closed for their day off, that left me with driving up to the far end of chinatown in San Francisco or a location more inline with a much longer drive. I decided on Cheung Hing but first I needed to confirm they still had ducks left, they often sell out of their roast ducks because they make a great roast duck. Luckily they did have some so I did a takeout from here. The duck was as good as they always were from this location, also it was a pretty nice snack!

The food is good and inexpensive with generous portions. The salted fish chicken fried rice was simply on the salted fish but was not bad. It still had a good flavor

I enjoyed the flavor of the roast duck plate, but the dish overall is a little on the greasier side which didn't sit too well with my stomach. The combination of duck grease and oil from fried rice will have you snoozing soon after. That being said, the price, portion size, and flavor are hard to beat nowadays (especially for duck). The restaurant is on the older side as some of the interior is dilapidated, but in a nostalgic in a way! Parking is available nearby, but I would count on it being taken, so do keep that in mind if you plan on visiting! Otherwise, the staff are great and very welcoming. I can see friends and families gathering here to share a meal, and I can see myself coming back to try other dishes.

First time here and have driven bye multiple times. The noodles had real wok Mei flavor . Giant servings ,well prepared ingredients. Want to being family for a feast...

Refused to sell a $2.50 bottle of water to my child because I used a credit card. I came here for lunch today with my mother and my young child. After finishing our meal, I paid the bill. A few minutes later my child needed some water, so I asked a staff member if I could get a cup of room-temperature water. She told me to get it myself from the tap near the cashier. When I looked at the area, the hygiene did not look very clean. Since the water was for my child, I asked if it was filtered. She said it was not. So I said I would just buy a bottle of water instead. She took a bottle from the refrigerator and handed it to me, then asked if I had cash. I told her I only had a credit card since I had already paid for the meal. She immediately took the bottle back and said she couldn't sell it to me because the bottle costs $2.50 and if I paid by card she would have to pay transaction fees. Her exact response was essentially: "Why should I sell it to you?" I honestly couldn't believe what I was hearing. I was not asking for free water. I was simply trying to buy a bottle of water for my child. Refusing to sell a $2.50 bottle of water to a paying customer -- because of a few cents in credit card fees -- is not just poor customer service, it shows a shocking lack of basic decency. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was upsetting enough that I feel other customers should know.

Great place for family dinner! We come here all the time. Love their roasted duck and bbq pork. They are super tasty and the portion is huge!

The "crispy" seafood noodles $14 were soggy. The chef messed up. I ordered it with less gravy. By the time I finished my wonton soup $12, all of the noodles were no longer crispy. The gravy was watery. It was an abomination to eat this. The wonton soup was a tiny bit better. It had shrimp in it but missing authentic Hong Kong flavors. It lacked sesame oil to give it some flavor. It had a weird sweet taste in the pork that overpowered the shrimp taste. They are not plump. Service was fine. The restaurant was mostly empty on a quiet Tuesday evening. Plenty of seats. I should have ordered the BBQ items instead.

Cheung Hing does the job, kind of, if you're hungry and kind of craving some Chinese food and you want to dine-in. It's a very average dining experience here and there isn't a lot to say about their food. It's very average, if even that. We ordered a few dishes for our table, which included a Clay Pot dish, Shrimp with Walnuts, and the Beef with Bitter Melon. Everything was kind of mediocre, other than the Beef Bitter Melon, which actually tasted fresh with a good amount of flavor. Service was slow here, even when we were here during dinner hour. Was about half packed, but it was so difficult to get the host's attention and they kept forgetting what we ordered - had to ask twice about a single dish and kept telling us they'd check with the kitchen or something. Alright place, but only come here if you just want some average Chinese restaurant experience. And parking here can be tough as it's street parking, so you may have to look around for a spot.

This is a chain of 5 locations. Not bad tried few of their establishments. Foods are good and satisfy. Here is my scoring card for this restaurant: 1) Location: ( 5 Point ) - Great location for customer to see and find. Great parking for street parking and back side with parking lot parking. 2) Decoration : (2 Point) - They still have the original decoration. Clean. 3) Price: ( 4 point)- The price is competitive but still a little bit pricey compare to other same stars and type food they serve 4) Quality and Taste : ( 3 point)- The quality is ok, food taste is good and portions are below average . ( must be inflation ) 5) Type of cuisine standard : ( 4 point) - The style of Chinese food they serve is pretty close to the way it was prepare in China. Not bad! But some dishes did have slightly modify to cater the customer's need Overall it's not bad and I thinks it's great to give it a try and let me know what you think. The best roasted duck ever! The prices are reasonable, the dishes are big. Their fish flounder is also very crispy and tasty.

5 stars - Genuine Northern Chinese Gem in Milbrae…read more I've been searching for years for a spot that does real Northern Chinese food without watering it down for the American palate, and New China absolutely delivers. The owners clearly know their stuff--Shandong style cooking shines through. We started with the pan-fried pork & chive dumplings (煎饺) -- thick, chewy wrappers with perfectly seasoned filling and that ideal crispy bottom. Not the thin-skinned Cantonese style; these are hearty and satisfying, just like what you'd get in the north. Their zha jiang mian (炸酱面) is outstanding--the fermented soybean sauce is rich and deeply flavored, loaded with ground pork, cucumber matchsticks, and bean sprouts. The noodles have that perfect al dente bite. It's the real deal, not the sweet Americanized version. We also got the cumin lamb skewers (孜然羊肉串) -- tender, intensely spiced with cumin, chili flakes, and sesame, grilled over real flame so they have that smoky char. And the sour cabbage stir-fried with glass noodles (酸菜粉丝) was spot-on: tangy, comforting, and full of that signature Northern balance of sour and savory. Excellent appetizers Portions are generous, prices are very reasonable for the quality, and the place has that no-frills, family-run feel that makes you feel like you're eating at someone's home kitchen. Service was friendly and quick, even when busy. If you're tired of the same old General Tso's and orange chicken everywhere, do yourself a favor and come here for authentic Northern Chinese flavors. This is now our go-to spot in Milbrae Highly recommend--will be back often!

Very authentic. There will be long lines during rush hour. They have a waitlist you can join in person. We waited about 20 minute for a Saturday lunch. Black Pepper beef Ribs- delish! tender pieces with grilled bell peppers and red onion made this dish pair really well with rice. Fried rice with Scallop & egg white- a little light on the seasoning but still a decent fired rice dish which with the beef ribs dish was a match made in heaven. Seafood clay pot- more tofu than seafood but still a tasty and well seasoned clay pot. Also ordered a couple of dim sum plates (Shrimp dumpling & beef Balls). Both were on par with other dim sum locales so nothing negative about their flavors. Overall service was fine; given it was the lunch hour but all the food came out relatively quickly and would definitely have a return visit.

The dim sum here was excellent and reminded me of home. Not only did everything taste good but it was served piping hot and came out quickly. The breakdown of our dishes is below: Walnut Shrimp - Hot and plump shrimp that has a bounce in your mouth covered with tangy mayo. We enjoyed the light fry. Dried Scallop Egg White Fried Rice - Fragrant but oily and plenty of flavor. BBQ Pork & Egg Cheong Fun - Soft sheets of rice noodle roll with a generous amount of ingredients. Hargow - Very good with big shrimp and a sesame oil flavor. Shumai - Soft thin skin withmore seafood than pork taste. Chiu Chow dumpling & Beancurd roll were ok but had fresh ingredients. Chicken Feet - I liked the overall flavor but it didn't seep all the way in. Parking is challenging but the taste is well worth a visit!

But I'm not upset at all about this impromptu decision as we had a great meal here. Our table of 6 ordered a variety of dishes and everything was delicious. the most notable items for me were the spicy wontons and fish in chili oil. The dishes were spicy but not so much so that you couldn't enjoy the actual flavors of the dish. For those that like the Szechuan tingling feeling, the chicken in explosive chilis was also quite good. We had also given the string beans, green onion pancake, and pork and shrimp dumplings a shot and all of them hit the spot. I'm usually a huge fan of braised beef noodle soup so decided to get that here too. It wasn't the same as if I had gotten this dish at a Taiwanese restaurant; compared to the strong flavors of the other dishes, this one was pretty mild. So it's something I would skip next time I come, but every other dish was on point. Our waitress was also great at taking care of us, bring out our food quickly and helping us to clear the other plates. Even after we finished our meal and overstayed our welcome by continuing to chat, the staff didn't make us feel rushed to leave.
