    BBQ beef ribs
    Allena C.

My bf got a recommendation to try this place out. I've never heard of it so I went along with no expectations. It's one hole in the wall joint! The place has mismatched furniture. Whatever restaurant this was previously, they kept what they felt was still in good condition and added what they liked to the place. Our seats were uncomfortable as if the cushion lost its bounce and it became hard and our table looked like floor tile but it was laminate. The glue was coming off the edge of the table so it was no longer sticking and lifted up. Maybe I should have taken a shot so you could understand what I'm trying to describe. In other words, ambiance was less than desirable. But I don't usually rate a place because of ambiance or service. So on to the food! ***OUR PICKS*** FISH & CHIPS ~ we got a huge plate of crinkle fries with some fish and a dollop of tartar sauce and ketchup. Lightly, crispy batter, but you can tell the fish was frozen. We even saw her grab the frozen fish out of the freezer which was on the side of the wall. I guess you can't expect fresh fish. I was only able to eat 2 pieces as this was heavy and greasy for my stomach. BF ate more of it and felt queasy after lunch. 2/5 SIDE OF BBQ BEEF RIBS ~ for $12, we got more bones than meat! Lots of cumin and seasoning which doesn't taste Texan though these were supposed to be Texan BBQ ribs. At least that's what was shown on window. The meat came off the bones but we did not care for the spices. 2/5 Waitress was ok. We got our food quickly since we were the only ones in the restaurant at 1pm on a Wednesday. We probably should have stuck with Northern Chinese food instead. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be back. Queasy stomach for $40! I don't think so.

We had the $35 ayce, which includes soda and soy milk as well. We love the Chinese burgers, skewers and lamb soup. Everything is delicious and flavorful. They have great takeout order options too. Some items are buy one get one free! Highly recommend this place.

    Pork & beef Chinese sandwich

Personally I don't like the spices they used on the skewers or veggies. The beef skewers are so rough and chewy, not at all tender. The sesame noodles had no sesame flavor and the noodles were rougher than what I prefer. If I had to pick a favorite it would be the Chinese grilled pork sandwich. The meat is flavorful and tender. Overall, flavor profile wasn't really for me, but I think that they really bring out the flavors you'd find in Beijing.

Beef rib plate with egg fried rice and potato salad.

I struggled on how to rate this place because the food was fine, but the menu is...perplexing? It's more like a 3.5 in that regard. For non-Chinese people, note that you will find neither traditional hamburgers nor Texas barbecue here despite what the sign may suggest. Just keep an open mind. It's a casual little place that sits between a dive bar and a larger seafood restaurant that appears to have spawned it. The service is decent and you can eat in or out. This review is on the BBQ menu. I got meat plate #1 with beef ribs, egg fried rice, and potato salad. I peeked behind the counter and the ribs are braised, then grilled with sauce (so technically no barbecue). These are actually pretty flavorful with perhaps a hint of cumin and pleasant chew. The egg fried rice was a pleasant surprise with that wok flavor; only egg and no other typical additions. The potato salad was fine. It's a good value for $16 in the Bay. ALERT! They have an all you can eat barbecue offer. That's right! You can get AYCE for $35, minimum 2 participants. It covers everything under their BBQ menu which includes ribs, chicken wings, skewers, and more unusual cuts like chicken heart, pig's feet, pork intestine, and duck chin.

I already finished half of the 2-meat combo - yep, worth it! Bbq beef ribs and pork ribs - several of Each type!

Texas-sized Chinese bbq platters! Plenty of fall-off-the-bone meat and plenty to eat! This is the perfect marriage of Texas style and Chinese style bbq - found right here in CA! If I were in LA, SGV, K-town, this is a place I can imagine heading to for late night eats! The box was so full that they had to staple the box shut! The interior decor was like a Texas bbq restaurant and very clean, and then it was decorated with Asian themes - awesome! While eating the Chinese hamburgers, I felt like a food ranger on those traveling shows! :-) Food Ranger Brigade!

Incredible Ro Ja Mo... juicy full of cumin and 5 spice pork $6
    David H.

The pork hamburger or Chinese name Ro Ja Ma... literary trabajares to meat and buns can't be beat especially at $6. Juicy pork with cumin and 5 spice is pure heaven. Chive shrimp dumplings is devoid of shrimp though and full of pork fat. Comatose from all the grease I consumed. Authentic Chinese food that's reasonable worth the return trip to sample all the other goodies here.

Had a to-go order on the original Chinese pork burger. It has pulled pork inside with chopped green pepper inside. I was pleasantly surprised that the meat was very juicy and the meat was not overly flavored. Since it's a to-go order, I can't say anything about the service or ambiance. The to go order was packed very neatly. Each of the burger is in its own individual bag, and then inside the box. There's no spill or mess inside.

At first, I thought they had extended the restaurant. But no, they did not. They just used the old place for storage and the restaurant is still small. Service is great. Menu definitely has changed. The food portion and price are decent. The Chinese burgers are pretty flavorful, but the buns are so dry. Don't know how many days old. They should either put some sauce to moist the buns or make it fresh. The Sesame cold noodle is okay. The Grilled lamb skewers are tender, but lack of flavor. At least, put some salt on it. I totally agree with the other reviewer. Texas bbq and Chinese Burger??? Lol!!!! :)

Standout was definitely the Peking duck - super tasty, generous portions, and they prepared the duck 3 ways, including a delicious soup with the bones. You need to check in and let them know you arrived so they can put you in the queue to be seated. Even though we arrived at 6:45 we didn't get seated until 7:15 (aka no point in arriving early if you have a reservation). The Peking Duck is what they are famous for and deservedly so. It is so so good and the presentation is beautiful. Skin is crispy, meat is tender, wrappers are thin. They give you an option to have the Duck remains (bones and left over meat) to be made into a soup or stir fry and we opted for the soup. It was so clean and healthy tasting. One of the best places for Peking duck in the bay. A must try

I don't eat porridge often, usually when really under the weather so I'm fortunate to not gone to get some in a while. I called my pickup order since I didn't see an online option. The store front is Ichi Ramen so it's confusing in case you get lost in the busy plaza. I ordered shrimp, fish and plain porridge (congee) along with beef chow fun. 4 dishes total. Total came out to under $60 and it was a heavy bag! The porridge has a nice thick consistency without being runny. It had flavor to not need seasoning and surprisingly large portions of seafood. The chow fun was decent but I've definitely tasted better. Kinda pricy at $18 though the beef slices were big. I appreciated it wasn't as oily as other chow fun I've had so easy to eat without feeling kinda gross after. Solid value, good food, and worth a rec for porridge. All in all, I'd definitely return. 4.5 stars.

For some proteins, it is advisable to get an extra bowl to remove the protein as it will overcook in the crazy hot congee. The sliced beef congee comes out perfect so they must either add it to the hot congee rare or even raw so it ends up cooking perfectly. The friend Chinese donut was crispy and airy, slightly oily so fryer oil may have needed to be hotter and fry cook need to slow down and let oil temp recover. Place does get busy quick and may need to wait for a table though.

5 stars - Genuine Northern Chinese Gem in Milbrae…read more I've been searching for years for a spot that does real Northern Chinese food without watering it down for the American palate, and New China absolutely delivers. The owners clearly know their stuff--Shandong style cooking shines through. We started with the pan-fried pork & chive dumplings (煎饺) -- thick, chewy wrappers with perfectly seasoned filling and that ideal crispy bottom. Not the thin-skinned Cantonese style; these are hearty and satisfying, just like what you'd get in the north. Their zha jiang mian (炸酱面) is outstanding--the fermented soybean sauce is rich and deeply flavored, loaded with ground pork, cucumber matchsticks, and bean sprouts. The noodles have that perfect al dente bite. It's the real deal, not the sweet Americanized version. We also got the cumin lamb skewers (孜然羊肉串) -- tender, intensely spiced with cumin, chili flakes, and sesame, grilled over real flame so they have that smoky char. And the sour cabbage stir-fried with glass noodles (酸菜粉丝) was spot-on: tangy, comforting, and full of that signature Northern balance of sour and savory. Excellent appetizers Portions are generous, prices are very reasonable for the quality, and the place has that no-frills, family-run feel that makes you feel like you're eating at someone's home kitchen. Service was friendly and quick, even when busy. If you're tired of the same old General Tso's and orange chicken everywhere, do yourself a favor and come here for authentic Northern Chinese flavors. This is now our go-to spot in Milbrae Highly recommend--will be back often!

The dumplings didn't taste fresh or particularly well seasoned, and honestly I've been more satisfied making Ling Ling dumplings at home in my own kitchen. That was disappointing considering restaurant dumplings should easily outshine something frozen and store bought. The scallion pancakes were probably the best part of the meal. They were decent enough, but still nothing memorable or worth going back for. Overall everything just felt very average, especially for an area known for having such strong food spots and authentic flavors nearby. The establishment itself also didn't leave much of an impression. The atmosphere and overall experience felt just as mediocre as the food.
