Cheung Hing used to be a classic restaurant that my family would go to when they were located in Chinatown in SF. I am not even sure if it is the same owner or not. But I decided to try this location as a nostalgia and I was quite disappointed. The quality of the food was not as good as I remembered. It's been a little while since I ate here (about a month), but thought I'd go ahead and post a review based on my memory! I was there with a group of about 8 people, so I was able to sample quite a few dishes. We each ordered a dish and ate family style, of course; it's the only way to go in a Chinese restaurant! The food was pretty tasty. Most of the dishes were seasoned well, but a couple benefited from the addition of a bit of salt or soy sauce. That never bothers me because I'd prefer it to be under-salted rather than over. One dish that stood out for me was the fried fish with the corn and egg gravy (sorry, don't know what it's officially called). It was a dish I wouldn't think of ordering, but it really hit the nostalgia spot! Definitely comfort food! My choice of dishes was the meat patty with the salted egg, but it was a bit disappointing. It didn't seem to have the flavor it needed. It's one of my go-to comfort dishes, but it didn't comfort that evening! Others ordered roast duck, bittermelon with beef, oysters on a hot plate, and other things that I can't recall anymore. The restaurant is pretty big with two good sized rooms, but it's popular, so it does get crowded. There's a parking lot next to it, but it was completely full when I arrived, so I parked in the neighborhood and walked about three blocks. The wait staff could be a bit friendlier and less gruff, but I guess it's difficult when you work long hours and have been on your feet all day. I'm not sure how to rate my experience here. Came with my family of 10 and it was not crazy. The place next door was super packed so we had to settle for this place, and I regret it. We ordered 5-7 dishes and only a few of them came out. One of them was salt and pepper pork chops and it never came out after the rest of the food came. When we brought it to the attention of the waitress, we told her to cancel it if it wasn't made. She said she will check and came back out 5 minutes later empty handed and said nothing to us. My take is that she told the cooks in the back to make it since they forgot instead of canceling it off our bill like we asked since it wasn't even made to begin with. We started with some free house soup and then our food just rolled out! Restaurant was about a third full on a Saturday but service was fast. The food was exactly what we wanted. Good food the convenience of large party orders! We had a Chinese new year party with family (about 17 ppl) but decided the day before where to order. So glad we tried this for party trays! Food 5/5: Don't believe the serving sizes they say! It's actually a LOT more food than you think!! Small trays can feed 10 people for sure Medium trays can feed 20 ppl. My husband and I used to come here all the time when we lived in Millbrae. We never ate inside since we lived walking distance and this place was pretty emptied. Quiet ambiance until the butcher started to talk and shout! The butcher seemed to be very sexist against females and always had a bad attitude whenever he speaks to female customers or to his female colleagues. I tested this theory with my husband and let my husband order the duck. My husband's Cantonese was not as good as mine but the butcher was respectful and calm whenever he spoke to my husband. However, when I ordered food alone, he would shout at me on top of his lungs and say, "what you want?!" (In Cantonese) before I even walk up to the stall. I came two days ago to pick up the two bbq meat combo: roast duck and bbq pork rice plate. The prices definitely increased and cost over $16, almost the same price as getting a whole duck. The same butcher already started shouting at me before I approached him to order. As soon as I ordered, another Chinese couple walked in and ordered a duck plate. The butcher was nice to the male but when the female spoke, he started screaming at her (again, proving my theory that this man was sexist). He heard the order wrong and thought she wanted roast duck and bbq pork rice plate, but she ordered a duck plate. Quickly, he argued with her and said "you ordered wrong, say roast duck plate, not duck plate" (in Cantonese). Honestly, they only served one type of duck so he was definitely tripping. When I got my order, the waitress refused my credit card immediately and said pay cash, that would be better (in Cantonese). I paid in cash and asked for the plum sauce. She declined and said it did not come with my order because I ordered a plate and not a whole duck. I asked how much a container of plum sauce would cost and she walked away and ignored me. Man, the services here were terrible! The workers got more disrespectful and rude in the past year! Honestly, I would rather drive to SSF location since the customer services and workers were much nicer. My bbq pork was dry too and it was missing the sweet honey layer. The roast duck was juicy, had a lot of meat, and the skin crispy and tasty. I also really enjoyed the BBQ pork. It was sweet and tender. The kung pao chicken was interesting. There were peanuts, but it wasn't very spicy and it contained a lot of different vegetables not typically found in this dish. It wasn't bad, it was just different. Prices were reasonable and the portions were generous. And it was nice that they included a free red bean soup for dessert! I thought I had been to every Cheung Hing Restaurant in the Bay Area when my wife sent me to this one in Millbrae. After my non-yelping wife had read all the reviews, she told me that I had to go to pick up one of their 2 item BBQ rice plates. She told me that the reviews were good, and that the butcher up front treated men better. I've been there several times to pick this up for lunch. I don't know if the meat man is sexist, but, he gives more than the places that I normally frequent in Southern California. I've had their roast pork, duck, and kui fei chicken. All of their meats that I've ordered are good. We've also called in our orders for chowmein and other dishes. Everything we've ordered have pretty good, except for their lobster yee mein, the lobster seemed to be kind of old, not fresh. It's a good place! I was in the mood for Chinese food. So, I decided to check out some small local restaurants. I finally decided to check out Cheung Hing. From the outside, it seems like a small establishment. Parking was a PITA, but after a few circles around the block, I was able to find a spot. I was very hungry, so I ordered a bunch of dishes. Service was pretty good. The waiter was very attentive and even changed our plates. We ordered a whole roast duck, sauté clams, cumin lamb, beef with tofu, green beans, lobster noodles, and scallop with egg white fried rice. I have to say, I was very impressed by the taste of all the dishes. It was actually better than some of the larger "well-known" restaurants in the Bay Area. Their prices are also comparable to larger establishments, offering the same quality and generous portions. I will add Cheung Hing to my list of go-to places for Chinese food! read more

I ordered Mongolian beef and potstickers takeout for Easter supper. One third of the beef I put on my plate was too fatty/stringy/chewy to eat. I should have known when I couldn't cut through it with the side of my fork. The flavor was just okay. I tried 1 potsticker and the dough was barely cooked and far too thick. One side barely had any pan seared brown marks. I ate the potsticker stuffing and it was equally unimpressive. The sauce that came with the potstickers looked like a thin sweet and sour but it wasn't. There was an alcohol flavor that I couldn't identify and it wasn't palatable. First time here and got a whole roast duck to go for $33.50, tax included. I ordered in Cantonese and paid cash. The uncle helped me choose a duck, but I decided on a different one. He was slightly offended, but still friendly. He chopped the duck up, placed it in a box, and laddled some duck drippings all over. You can buy whole or half ducks or chickens as well as char sui and roast pork. This is a dine in restaurant with a to-go counter. Their rice plates look good too so I'll have to try that next time. There's plenty of street parking surrounding the area and a public parking lot near by. Got home to eat. Duck was delicious and meaty. It wasn't too salty. It was definitely worth the trip to get some legit roast duck because roast duck in SJ is trash. I dont even bother looking for it in SJ. Maybe my tastebuds are spoiled because I grew up eating SF roast duck. There are a couple to-go food places in SF with the same Cheung Hing name that I've been to. Ate at Cheung Hing for the first time - drove over from Oakland to have lunch with my friend. Her (Cantonese) family goes here frequently. I ordered the Eggplant & Fish in Garlic Sauce Claypot (medium spice) and loved it! My friend ordered rice porridge (jook) - it was good - and Chinese donuts, which were delicious, freshly made and not greasy. Food: We ordered a rice box with 3 types of meat. One box had roasted pork belly, bbq pork, and duck. The other had bbq pork belly, bbq ribs, and bbq pork. Both come with some cooked green cabbage in a light soy/oyster sauce. The pork belly was very crispy but was very salty. We had some excess salt crystals and the pieces we received were too fatty. The duck was cooked well. The ribs were a little too dry. The star of the show was the bbq pork (char siu). Well seasoned, perfect sweetness, not overly salty, and not tough! The price: for two boxes of boxed rice we paid close to $50. Inflation is real but the $50 price mark is steep in comparison to their competitors. Overall, if you're craving Cantonese style bbq and if you're close to SFO this could be an option. Dim sum lunch and overall ok. Dim sum tasted fresh and the roast pork was super soft and sweet, not entirely Cantonese style but tasty. The pig stomach with chicken was nice, especially like the chicken. The shredded duck pan fried rice noodle is not easy to make well but they made it crispy on the outside and juicy inside.
