At least they're less expensive than the one right off the 8 West freeway - they're nuts. Just know that the price initially shown is for credit/debit/gift cards and, if paying in cash, the price per gallon drops by 10 cents. They also have a car wash, which was ridiculously expensive. It might be good if you're in a pinch but you're likely to get a better price in Lakeside or even El Cajon. They also have air for tires, but I don't know the price.

I was in need of fueling up, so I stopped by this Shell gas station. I hopped into the convenience store, and made a pit stop. I noticed that this place is pretty well kept, to include a clean bathroom. I proceeded to fuel up, and noticed that the fuel prices were a bit lower than in other gas stations in the area. I noticed the surrounding area seemed pretty safe. I didn't catch any bad vibes from anyone here. Granted, it was a quick 10 minute stop in total. After of which, I was back on the road headed toward the San Diego area.

My last oil change at WalMart cost me approximately $69.00. I use Mobile One so the cost is generally higher than the less expensive brands and I don't know what Catrece uses so it would be unfair to compare prices . . . we may be comparing apples and oranges, I don't know. But oil is generally around $5.00 at quart anymore. It is unfortunate that Catrece"s experience wasn't better but the complaint seems unwarranted based on cost. Anyway, I've been an Alpine resident for over twenty-five years and owned a retail business on the 2400 Block of Alpine Blvd for approximately 8 years. I've also been a member of the local Chamber of Commerce. I was Service Manager of Dealer's Service Auto Body for years and for years I worked for Gulf and Wilshire gas stations. I owned a small car wash business in National City. So, I have some experience in the auto industry. Mechanics at PVAR have always been courteous and professional with me. I've had my motorhome, two trailers, and at least 3 different cars worked on by Joe (Jose) and J.C. His reputation is sterling. When I first moved to Alpine, I checked with two gas stations and the local auto parts store to see who they used for auto repairs . . . all said, "Pine Valley Auto." I said, no, I want someone local. It was then that I learned that Pine Valley Auto was in Alpine. My experience with PVAR has always been great. Only yesterday, I picked up Ford T-Bird and the cost of repairs was very reasonable. As far as the items in the creepy display goes . . . I love 'em! As far as I know, all those critters came from radiators, engine compartments, vents, under seats, etc.. People that had them removed were probably delighted. I sure wouldn't want that rattlesnake in my car! It also shows what our mechanics experience while working on our cars. They probably deserve 'hazardous duty pay' for the exposure . . . . Pine Valley Auto Repair . . . at least for 99% of the customers who use them, will use them again. I certainly will . . . .

Cashier rings it up as $1.99 when I go to pay with my EBT card the price goes up to $2.99! -$.59 cent charge to purchase gas! Ridiculous. Plus there gas is so cheap you get horrible gas mileage. And they short you - last summer when I got my car washed there, an employee came over to my window, gawked at my short skirt , then called his buddy over and pointed down again to show his friend.

Very nice employees too. They did change in regards to water or ice. They charge you just for ice or water when before it was free. Not a big deal it's .25 cents. Also now they have large pizzas I think they are 9.99. The slices are a great deal at $2. Found a really large slice today. I'll be back for sure.

Much easier to scoot on by the Golden Acorn up on the hill knowing that this station and convenience store exists. Easy to operate pumps. We have never been there when all the pumps were taken. Fantastic store inside chock full of snacks and drinks. Very clean restrooms. This is a perfect place to hit the restroom and fill your tank after making it through the mountains on your way to San Diego or the perfect place to fill up your tank and hit the restroom before heading into the mountains on your way to Arizona. We have always gotten friendly and fast service from the employees. I suggest you give them a shot. It may change the way you approach San Diego, or the way you leave it.
