I love Chevron gas - Techron, engine parts... you know the deal... but this station is one to avoid. I'm loyal to the Chevron brand - and as a motoring enthusiast and person owning more than one vehicle - I like to think of myself as an expert all things cars. That being said I'm a firm believer that when it comes to cars the most expensive thing you can do is be cheap with them. "Save money pay twice" I hear my aunts words echo in my head to this day. She embodied this ancient Japanese wisdom and you would never question what she had to say - her words were law to live by. As my tank nears "E" I happen to drive right past here. I don't hesitate to drive in and fill up. Its no time to bargain shop. I've run out of gas two times before - once in the middle of the desert and didn't want to risk it again. Save money pay twice. After I fill up I notice the horrible upcharge for using a credit card. Then I think back and realize that I'm at the station that charges .30 or .40 or .50 sometimes extra for non cash transactions. Too late. Who walks around with hundreds of dollars of cash these days? Unless your selling on the streets - nobody. I don't mind paying a little extra for the convenience of paying with credit - but this is just a bit too much. read more

Worst Chevron ever! After buying gas, I wanted to buy drinks and use restroom. When I was trying to find where the restrooms are located guy yelled from the register "we don't have restroom" I said ok and went to cashier to pay the beverages and buy a pack of cigarettes. When my friend wanted to buy Scratchers he said no "more scratchers" even we saw them on the counter. And he didn't ask me ID when I wanted to buy cigarettes. If I was dying of thirst and ran out of gas right in front of this station I'd still rather push my car uphill to the 76 down the street and drink sea water. Absolutely horrible. In one visit I tried to purchase a propane tank only to be told they didn't sell tanks, only refills. Great, so I go buy an empty from Home Depot, and then was told they're out of propane. I don't suppose you may consider that relevant info when I inquired in the first place? Another visit I was buying lottery tickets, and the cashier looking at the long line of people wanting to buy lotto (big jackpot) said "NO MORE LOTTO" about 15 mins before the lottery buying window closed. read more

Two employees on 4/26/2023 at 8am Took it upon themselves to racial profile. I was nicely dressed and asked the man at counter about coffee. This same man never took his eye off me as I walk the isles not going each isle as I was looking for almonds and peanuts. Not that is their business to know.I then spoke back to the same man and asked why he is following me as I can see his face never glancing away I said I am citizen here and have free speech rights and you will not disrespect me. His response was it is his glasses. I thought is that all you can say. The shorter with salty beard, (no badge) blue turban man said his coworker needs to watch because people steal. I told them they will find themselves in a lawsuit paying for attorneys and I know profiling when I see it. The checker purposely tried to charge me for an extra pack of smokes I didn't get! It's not the first time either... I knew he did something wrong because my total seemed much higher than it should've been and he acted totally busted when I asked him for a receipt! You've gotta really watch these guys! They're super sneaky and will rob you blind if given then a chance!! I've caught them at least 3 times now trying to charge me for extra stuff I didn't get, or purposely not giving me the discounts I was owed... even when I've straight up asked them, "did you take the money off for that promotion"? They'll always tell you "yeah I did it"!! And act annoyed that you'd dare question them! They're total thieves and if you must stop in here, watch them closely snd ALWAYS get a receipt!!! Went in to fill the propane tank on my RV today. When the attendant was done, the meter read 6.3 gallons. We went back inside and he tried to charge me for 6.6 gallons. I told him that wasnt the correct amount. At that point he was confused about what number he read, went back out to check ( by himself because i was very confident about the number i read) and came back an tried to charge me 6.5 gallons. I called him out on his lies and he tries to convince me that its ok, its no big deal. He so pissed off he tells another person in his native language to just charge me for 6 and he walks out. I tell the person im willing to pay 6.3 since that's what i got. She tells me that the computer wont allow that. I asked "you can charge 6.6 gallons but not 6.3?" No response. The first guy walks back in he tells me that he's giving me a break because he normally rounds up the gallon no matter where the decimal lands. I said that's robbery. I've been here 3 times trying to fill a 20lb propane tank, and day after day it's one excuse or another. First it was that they couldn't fill with only one employee on duty, then it was that they couldn't fill after 5pm, and the very next day it's "propane is out and we don't know when we'll get a delivery". Location is busy, and is either easy to get in to or a pain, depending on how you approach. Had lots of squeegees in good condition. Looks like they do propane refills, but they did have a sign that suggested propane sales hours are limited. read more

When we are all trying to do our best to come together during this Covid-19 epidemic this *clears throat* "service station" opted to try and gouge people with the sell of N95 masks. They are offering for sale, N95 masks, 10 for $99.00. Whereas they usually sell for about $2/ea. Can you say Price Gouging? This has been well documented on the news with video showing the pricing. Had a similar situation happen to another customer at this Chevron. Walked in to pay for gas at the cashier instead of using my card at the pump. I asked the guy to charge $35 and was denied. He told me I had to pay outside but I told him I've had my card compromised by gas station pumps in the past (not at this particular one but other stations/grocery stores). He said he was unable to do credit card transaction inside but I'm only able to pay at the pump. Fuck that shit, and fuck you Powell Street Chevron. I'd rather run out of gas on the bay bridge than have to deal with the bullshit of getting my bank card straightened out because some numb nuts decided to skim my card. The End read more

I will give ZERO star to this gas station. I just had the worst experience at this gas station!!! My AMEX card had already cleared at the pump, but no gas from the nozzle. I went to the cashier and he told me my card has declined. There is no way my amex card was declined ever. So worried about gas station fraud, I called amex immediately and confirmed my card is not comprised. Gas station mgr also made some rude comments to get me really upset and questioned reasons I'm taking photo of the gas pump in case of fraud. he claimed I was distracting other customers. Cashier came up to show me "HOW TO USE THEIR MACHINE" and insisted that I was the problem. Oh well well well, he used his own credit card to demonstrate. What a surprise, the pump was in fact broken and he asked me to use the next pump WITHOUT APOLOGY. This is the worst customer service I've come across in any Chevron station. I wasted 20 minutes at this station getting gas, calling amex and arguing with the staff. I should bill them for my time and unnecessary abuses I took from those clowns. There are so many gas stations in that neighborhood. They have lost my business and I urge others not to use this gas station. read more

I stopped here to buy gas as I prefer Chevron. My credit card has been cloned or skimmed a couple of times, so now I walk into the store to buy gas with my card. I walk in and say "$25 on pump 2, please". The attendant behind the counter says "You have to use the card reader at the pump." I say "I don't want to use them because my card has been cloned." He refuses to let me pay inside. "Forget it, I'll buy gas somewhere else." which is easy as there gas stations down the street. I'm going to contact Chevron as well, but do yourself a favor and skip these jerks. Who knows? Maybe they want your credit cards to be compromised. read more

I'd give them less than one star if I could. Twice in a month now I've come to get gas, press the "regular" button, and have them charge me for the "premium" price. When I try to ask the attendant what happened, they disparagingly told me that I was the one who made the mistake and put in the "premium" grade. I don't drive. So for me, gas stations are snack stores. This Chevron actually has a deli serving sandwiches, but the deli lady usually sits around looking bored. It's not that she's a lazy butt; unlike me, everyone else in America drives so they come in for gas, maybe a soda, but not sandwiches. The sammies here are OK. They're definitely on the cheap side. However, one time, I got possessed by fearlessness and ordered a "tuna melt" which was tuna salad in a hot dog bun warmed over. It was an experience which led to one of my iron-clad tenets: DO NOT GET TUNA FROM A GAS STATION. It didn't make me pukey or poopy, but I just didn't feel right afterwards. I think my aura reeked of tinned fish and grease all afternoon. Their snack selection is alright. They have a few cheaper Mexican versions of American snacks. My co-worker tried to buy a box of genuine Cheez-Its, but it was $4. So I usually get the cheap Bimbo (the brand, not the class of people) snacks. I wish they'd get a better ice cream/popsicle selection in the summer, and more different flavors of CornNuts. The register has a display of awesomely cheesy Zippos, pocket knives, greeting cards, and CDs. There is no porn in the magazine section. read more

This is the most expensive gas in the East Bay. Unclear why -- there are other stations less than a block away which are $0.20/gal cheaper. I'd pay a slight premium for Chevron vs. 76, but not that much. The store is decent, but for some reason the refrigerated drinks are warmer than I'm used to. I filled up gas here to drive to San Francisco. Filled up $60 worth of premium and my car broke down by the time I drove from Emeryville to Alemany Exit in SF. I had to get my car towed, never once did I think gas could be the issue since I filled up directly before driving. Just got a call from the mechanic, my tank was bone dry. That means I got charged for a full tank but didn't get my gas. This gas station already has existing complaints now that I'm reading dating back to 2012! This Chevron station charges 10-15 cents more per gallon than many other Chevron stations including ones in Albany, Berkeley on Ashby, Richmond locations away from the freeway, and San Leandro. The owner told me "I can charge what I want because of my location and the customers don't know any better anyway". Don't buy gas there!! read more

This place is fine, and it has some weird non-standard gas station treats. I really appreciate that. The sandwiches are very good, even though the woman takes a LONG time to make them. I filled a couple propane tanks a few months back. It took 8 gallons to fill them, they charged me for 10. He said they charge a flat rate to fill propane tanks. Went back again with 5 tanks to fill (thought I'd give them a second chance) planning to make sure I was clear on their policy so I'd only pay for the propane used. I wanted to use my Safeway card to pay for the gas inside. He repeatedly said that Safeway cards don't work there which is a lie. There is an agreement with Safeway and Chevron. I went outside and finally used my credit card and the Safeway card and it worked. My parents wanted to pay cash. I put it on my credit card because he was so unhelpful. the customer service here is horrible , this location just remodeled now all of a sudden they'll close the store down for an hour claiming to be because of a shift change . if i'm not mistaken this chevron is 24 hours and should be open at all times . it causes an inconvenience for those who are trying to get gas or are just on their lunch breaks wanting a snack, , they make people stand outside for as long as it takes them and do not care for their customers, some people would have to leave and drive to another gas station just to get service , this is absolutely unacceptable and something needs to be done about it . i've been living and working in this area for quite some time and this is the first time i've seen this happen here or any retail/gas store . read more

As with another reviewer, I've had the attendant turn on the air automatically when he saw I was going to use it, without having to pay or buy gas. Very nice. I also see that they have a propane tank, so I think you can refill propane here, but I haven't tried that yet. Always had a good experience here. read more

For a Chevron, their price is high and they are a dirty station. The soapy water to clean your Windows is dirty water.
