I've yet to see a mini mart with employees that provide exceptional customer service, or exemplify excellence, a good work ethic, or show a great deal of kindness. I wonder what it is about gas mini marts' daily operations or hierarchy that make employees think they can treat people with something like indifference or barely disguised contempt. Many years ago I worked for a Chevron mini mart as a cashier and I was never encouraged to be kind, in fact, I was encouraged to not stick my neck out for any customer. This attitude was encouraged by my manager and either approved by or ignored by the store owner. True, there are some real sketchy characters that come in at all hours of the day and night (tweakers, drunks, street walkers, and troublemakers) but as someone who works for a mini mart you have to judge on a case by case basis and not just treat the whole world like crap. It's still a service industry and that means treating people decently, with respect, and yes, kindness. read more

I went into the convenience store during my lunch break to grab a soda pop. I was told by the cashiers that I could not have my backpack style handbag with me. Confused, I stepped back up towards the register, thinking they may want to look inside of it, which is not an issue. Then they told me I would have to leave it on top of the ice cream cooler. Do they ask all women to leave their purses there? Many women carry shoulder bags substantially larger than my bag is. I carry a back pack style bag to avoid shoulder and back injuries. This is a popular style of bag. It is not anywhere close to the size of a book bag a kid would have with them. I refused and left the store. Sorry, I'm not leaving my money, IDs, and credit cards unattended in an area I can't see. No beverage of any kind is worth that. read more

I have never experienced worse customer service in my life. I mean, I know I have high standards and this can be why I rate places so low, but this place takes the cake. The head honcho (and the biggest jerk) wears a nametag that just says "BOSS". Recently he added "Floyd" to it, but who knows if that's his real name. He allows all of his employees to run amok here, and treats each customer like crap. For instance, he'll purposely ignore you when you're standing at the register if he's doing something else. Once he was sitting at a table eating and reading the paper and didn't get up to help me for five minutes. Then there's the guy I've nicknamed "Sausage Fingers". I think it would kill thid guy to shower. He's the second worse employee. He stands there and chats with fellow employees about everything un-work related and cusses constantly to boot. Now, I'm no prude and I cuss like a sailor as well, but is work the appropriate place to swear loudly? Then there's the guy who never talks. He pumps gas and mops all the time but says nothing--until his girlfriend is there. Then he gets into it with sausage fingers talking about everything under the sun while his girlfriend walks around behind the counter messing with shit. Does she work there? No. But she's always there. Hmmm... The daughter of "BOSS" works here as well. She's not old enough to sell alcohol or ciggarettes, so if you want to buy either, she has to get someone else to ring you up. The only problem is that if she's behind the counter everyone else is outside smoking. And none of them can be bothered to come inside. No joke. They actually argued about it once. Jesus. The only acceptable guy who works here is a short blond mature guy who cusses the least and is the most friendly. Unfortunately he also works the least and only late at night. On top of being gigantic a**holes, they put up a sign that instructs customers to not talk on their cell phone or else risk not being served. I'm in agreement with this rule, as I find it rude. The rule, however, excludes the employees who answer the store phone and have personal conversations while helping customers. How do I know? Well, talking about partying or discussing your personal drama is a pretty obvious sign of a personal conversation. And then there's the time I got has here and they didn't replace my fuel cap. I smelled gas for several days and discovered it was missing. I went back, and the guy behind the counter made a sad attempt at locating it--he looked in one drawer and said they didn't have it. He pretty much implied that I didn't leave it at this place. I hate this place so much I wish it would burn to the ground. You might be asking why I go to this place if it's so bad. The reason is that it's the closest to my house and I can walk here quickly. Sure I could get in my car and drive to the 12th st Market, but it's often easier to walk. I just wish there was someone to complain to. You know, like the owner. But where is he? read more

lol, after reading the individual's comment below mine I have to laugh. What he/she has said is fairly spot on, but at the same time pretty extreme. These guys are chill, super chill. I go there quite often because I can literally throw a football at it from my house. They treat me decently and I actually kind of like the unique character they all have and bring to the establishment. I feel like I might get treated slightly better than the average joe, but only because I go there pretty often. These people will not come out to pump your gas if it is "cold" out. 2 out of the 3 times I have been to this place they refuse service because it's too cold... this is your job people and it oregon grow a back bone and do your jobs.... absolutely worst gas station in salem!!!!! I wish this gas station didn't exist. I purposely go out of my way so I don't have look at it and get mad at the so called management that works there. I'm a descent person who barely makes ends meat, but I don't steal from them, my face isn't on the "wall of shame" they display on the window. I have gotten treated like I am going to take something from the store itself, and the gas station attendants are scandalous. Always ask for a receipt because often times the receipt is different then what you might want to pay for in gas. I wish I could rate this business in the negative.... never go there.... go to Capital Market where their beer and soft drinks are always cold and their prices are cheaper... save yourself! This establishment is usually fast and accurate. The deli is hot and stocked. The people pumping gas are polite -fast and accurate. This is a business that has recently changed owners and I visit this store daily. read more

I've been here multiple times to try and get gas because it's really close to my house (try..because I haven't actually been able to get gas yet!) and it's the worst gas station in Salem! Ive literally sat in my car for 10 minutes without getting any service. I always end up driving away to find another gas station! The minimart is okay, but don't come here for gas. read more

Chevron charged me an extra $126.00 dollars on my credit card leaving me with no money for food or gas or lodging. They will return tonight, but my day is ruined. Stay away from Chevron like the plague. Other gas companies only hold an extra $1, not $126. This is not customer service I would ever want when doing a road trip with a limited budget. Chevron never notified me of this policy, and for that the company is no longer going to be receiving my patronage. Very unhappy. read more
