They were relatively busy but seemed to be somewhat understaffed. everyone was nice and pleasant, but at times we felt ignored. Restaurant is beautiful and a great place for a ladies get together. Service staff is mixed...friendly but can be slow and not very knowledgeable about their menu. The biggest drawback is how slow things are...maybe that's a French thing. But because it was so slow, we felt rushed to finish our meal with a 7 pm reservation and the restaurant closes at 9 pm. The first few dishes (appetizer and french onion soup) came out piping out but the entrees were lukewarm. The escargot was okay...a bit too much butter and lacked flavor. As for the entrees, the orange duck was tender and had good flavor...just not hot. The broccolini was done right but it has a bit of a kick to it...which I could've done without. The steak was okay...nothing exciting. The lamb chop was very good and perfect. All in all, an okay experience but with the price point, expected a bit more in terms of service and food. After a bit of trouble finding the entrance (on second floor, not much signage to get you there), we had a delightful meal that was perfectly paced and every dish was delicious. Between the 4 of us, we had both soups, French Onion (of course) and the Raspberry Gazpacho (SO GOOD!), then the mushroom tart, escargot, beet & citrus salad for second courses and the Ragu and Ratatouille as main courses. Compliments to the chef and the friendly and efficient staff! The place is busy but not loud, perfect for date-night. Cocktails are great. Clink ....... is a ...... Clunk They claim they are a SCRATCH restaurant. In my opinion, and I do not say this lightly, this is one to scratch off your list. The dining experience for myself, and my group of eight was beyond disappointing. First of all to find it, you have to go into a dying mall, wander and walk upstairs, find a decor that would be more appropriate if they were selling ice cream only. As for the food, how can any kitchen put too much salt on a salad? We had to send them back.. Of the eight entrées that came out, four were not acceptable. When we pointed this out, it only seemed to make the staff angry, as in "how dare we". At this point, the only thing, that was like French dining, was how rude they became. This is such a beautiful spot for brunch or a magical meal. I went here last summer after they opened for dessert. I had a cake made from crepes which was light and sweet. I recently came back a few weeks ago during cherry blossom time (Hanami) to take in this restaurant a little bit more. I liked it even better for brunch. They had quite a lot of choices from savory to sweet and a bigger menu than for happy hour. When you step into this place, you step into a magical world with everlasting cherry blossoms, blooms, and magic. Brunch is amazing here. The first thing I noticed was the gorgeous trees that set the stage for happiness with their beautiful cherry blossom blooms. They make spring last forever here. The minute you enter, you lose all the stress and worries behind because this place is everlastingbspring and joy. The tables were all adorned with fresh cut roses and the whole place is a pink paradise of flowers and whimsy. They cut their hours back in the winter, but I heard they might expand them again this summer. This is the ultimate spot for elegant birthday parties, baby showers, bridal parties, and other special occasions too since they do have a special room in the back for larger groups. This place would be perfect for prom or an anniversary/proposal dinner. The service may be a bit slow at times, but the food makes up for it. This is a place where time should move slow like having a coffee on a street in Paris or meditating under a magical tree. The whole vibe is an Instagram moment. You truly feel like you are in a fancy cafe in Paris or Los Angeles instead of Salem, Oregon. The women's bathroom is one of the prettiest restrooms I have ever been too. It feels like escaping into another secret garden and it's giving pure fancy and fun. It just puts a smile on your face when you enter. The clever signs and lights are fun too. Salem has a lot of new restaurants popping up but this piece of magic is my top favorite place to dine. It's hidden on the top floor of the building so take advantage of the free parking garage and connect on the third floor for easy access. I plan to get back here soon when I visit Salem on a day trip or for a work assignment. This place deserves recognition for it's style, design, and dreamy escape. The delicious food is a bonus too . Hostess greeted me promptly and I asked about sitting at the bar which she said would be fine. The bartender (Mo) brought me a glass of of water and asked if I would like a cocktail. I also ordered the French Onion Soup Excellent flavor. Not too overwhelming. For my entree I went with the Poulette (1/2 roasted chicken) As they were out of the green beans, I went with the suggestion of the cauliflower broccoli medley. The chicken (1/2) was delicious. Overall, I loved the experience here. The decor is so pretty and cute. Definitely nicer than a lot of places in Salem. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the egg with the waffle was a bit undercooked. The egg with the Benedict was perfectly poached. The potatoes were super good. My only two issues are 1: the coffee was cold (likely only a logistics issue) and 2: my bigger issue is the very limited and borderline just "decent" selection of wines. I sense a great French oriented restaurant would benefit a lot from having at least a few much higher level wines - like most good restaurants do - even if only a few higher end choices. That said, there were good champagne and mixed drink choices. So in the future we'll just be be bringing our own wine rather than buying. I always like to buy from the restaurant but at this point the options just aren't good enough. I hope this changes since every other aspect of the experience is great. read more

Do not hold me to this~) has croissants that flake nicely and a veggie hash that's pretty colorful. Lunch Wed-Sat (11am-3pm (I think) does oysters and sandwiches that aren't bad. Dinner same days (4pm-9pm) has stuff like steak au poivre and escargot with butter, running $20-$40. The decor was very pink and cute. The service was perfect. The food, however was disappointing. I hope it was just an off day for the kitchen. I ordered the mushroom crepe which was much more dry crepe than mushroom. It came folded over itself in layers in a bowl with melted cheese on top. In my opinion, it could be improved served on a plate ( so it is easier to cut) paired with arugula for more flavor and with less crepe and more mushroom. My friend's salad greens were grainy, the salmon was too raw with an overwhelming fishyness and the green beans needed to be blanched another few minutes. She sent it back. This morning we had brunch at Clink, our first time there. It's a very beautiful space and very well arranged; there was background music but subdued enough for conversation. We were seated in the upper level. Courtney (I think that was her name) made some suggestions including the persimmon tart which we both enjoyed. Everything was beautifully prepared and presented. Truly terrible. You couldn't pay me enough to eat at this restaurant again. I had their $30 Clink! Burger, requested to be cooked rare, with fries, and was given an overcooked, dried out object that was like eating a lump of cardboard with a bit of sugary barbecue sauce on it. The fries obviously came out of a bag of crap quality industrial food service fries. One companion ordered the "Poulette", a "half roasted" chicken. It showed up as just a half chicken on a plate, with nothing else! No potatoes, no vegetables, nothing. Who can eat an entire half chicken anyway? The other companion ordered the Spaghettini Pasta. She said it was just ok, but portion was quite small, and it wasn't listed under the Small Plates menu. We shared a side dish of Green Beans Almondine that were almost inedible because they had been barely cooked. How hard is it to cook green beans, for goodness sake? Just steam them for six minutes then add the seasonings. These people have no idea how to run a restaurant, although they appear to be quite good at suckering people into paying high prices for worse than mediocre food. Oh, and it's another of these restaurants with no sound deadening, so very, very loud to the point where it's almost impossible to have a conversation. Never again. read more

Clink? More like clunk. This is a new restaurant, and I was very excited to go. I chose it for my birthday dinner. The look was cute, very instagramable, with a cafe feel. But the further you went in, the more cringy it got. A huge cherry blossom tree in the center of the restaurant was the focal point. Very impressive. Until you realized that it's fake and then you start to wonder how they're going to clean it. Dining under that tree might become hazardous to your health once it gets dusty. On top of that fake thing, there were garlands of fake roses swagged over white privacy fencing as you might find at a wedding reception. Again, these are decorations that will be hard to maintain in a hygienic fashion. Same went for the pale floors which already show black scuff marks. But let's move on. With this kind of atmosphere, I was expecting a cafe menu. Especially when I was seated at a tiny cafe table next to an iron railing that was all that separated me from the bar. Nope. They handed me an ala carte menu of the sort found at such fine establishments as Ruth's Chris. But this was not immediately apparent. First, the prices shocked me. $30 for a burger. But ok, some nice restaurants charge that much. And the burger came with fries. Fine. Going by that burger, you'd think the more expensive offerings would come with a side. And you'd be wrong. Something I did not learn until I was ordering and faced with a waiter who insisted I should order a side to go with my duck since only duck would be on the plate. I was not happy with being pressured into ordering sides that should have come with my dish. But again, I let that go, hoping the food would be worth all of this. I always ask if the duck is done properly, with the fat fully rendered and the skin crisp. No one likes rubbery duck skin. The waiter assured me that not only would my duck skin be crisp and perfect but that this was his favorite dish. Reassured, I placed my order. And waited. And waited. Half an hour. We had an appetizer and I told myself that the wait meant the chef was taking the time to properly render the duck fat. This was a good sign. Nope. Here comes our meal. Two side dishes that costed as much as a fast food meal each--truffle fries and green beans almondine. They were both bigger than my friend's steak. His over $40 steak was about an inch wide and six inches long. It came sliced--gasp--and spread out on a narrow plate that most people serve olives on. Then my duck arrives. One piece whole and one piece sliced. I pick up my fork and poke it. The skin bounces back. I push the sliced pieces apart and find a quarter inch layer of fat beneath the skin. Not happy. And my waiter wasn't the one to bring me my food. So, I had to explain to the waitress that my waiter assured me I'd be experiencing crispy duck skin and this was not crispy. No apology came. Instead she said, "Ok. So, you don't like how it was cooked?" Aghast, I pointed at the fat. "You can see that it wasn't cooked properly. This isn't my opinion, it's fact. There is the fat. Right there. It was not rendered." "Fine," she says and takes my plate to the pickup counter, four feet away. Where she proceeds to talk about me to the chef. Right there. Now, I'm deeply uncomfortable. Then, I lick my fork to test the sauce. It was cold! Cold sauce on rubbery duck! My dining companion says, "Just share my steak. I don't trust them to cook that duck." Finally, our waiter comes by and I tell him to cancel the duck. I say that it wasn't cooked as promised and the sauce was cold. No apology. Instead, he says, "I understand." And leaves. The chef doesn't come out to speak to us, no one offers me an apology or even an option of another dish. I would have expected a comped side or dessert, especially from a new restaurant trying to establish itself. Nope. Nothing. We were then ignored until we asked the waiter for our check and had to wait another 20 minutes for that check. We waited so long that the entire first floor beneath that tree was empty before the waiter returned with our check. It was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. Suffice it to say, I will never return. read more
