I was traveling for work and was looking for a good coffee/brunch spot to work at for a little bit between job sites. This came up on my research and I was completely blown away. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They told me they make their own vanilla syrups and roast their own coffee beans. After some quick back and forth, the worker recommended I try their eggplant shakshuka and their iced shaken cappuccino. Both were phenomenal! I honestly am counting down the days til I get to be back in the area for that shaken cappuccino again! The subtle flavor notes from their roasted beans really shines through and is balanced by the cream they use. The eggplant shakshuka was also great. It wasn't too spicy but it was a lot of flavor with each bite. I was so into the sauce that I almost forgot to save some to eat with the toasted baguette slices that came with the plate! This is an update review. Let me be very clear: I like this place. HOWEVER... the steak is horrifically terrible. I mean, it's worse than any steak I have ever had; even my grandma's. And that's saying a lot. You do not want to know of the torture. Suggestions: 1st: If you want to have a steak on the menu, at least serve the cut that is on the menu. 2nd: if you're worried about food cost, do something pounded, and marinated, OR do a small trimmed cut that is excellent quality, and serve it with a lot of mash and veg, and that bordelaise sauce (which wasn't bad). 3rd: Meatloaf read more

Amazing decor in this place, and friendly service too. When you walk in there are a series of menus to your right, and the same menus are up at the counter as well. You choose what you want and order at the counter and they give you a number. Then they'll bring it to your table. I enjoyed the rice bowl. The tofu seemed to be fried and the sauce on it was spicy. The miso Moon coffee thankfully did not taste like miso, lol. My friend had an espresso and said it was terrible, very sour. Everyone else at our table seemed to enjoy our food, there were a lot of burgers and fries being ordered at the group. They have my daughter's favorite sort of salad, with blue cheese and steak. Stopped by this restaurant for a quick bite and coffee before a hike. Walking in the ambiance is so cozy and the staff were very friendly! My table ordered the breakfast burrito, breakfast chorizo sandwich, and the fish and chips, all so yummy! The very next day we had to go again and the avocado toast w eggs were the best i've had paired with their warm & toasty latte (i definitely recommend!). I brought a cool new friend I met online here and it was pretty good. Food: I just got a fries snack and she got some tasty tacos. I let her steal some of my fries cuz why not? Just good grub. I need to come back and explore more of their vegan options. I dig the focus on quality food and stuff. The next morning I had a great decaf oat milk latte with things in it before I hit the road back to Seattle. Vibe: The staff were pretty chill & cordial. The space is pretty slick. I like the whole balance to the place top-down. The whole ceiling is painted; blacked out nonetheless (very uncommon to find "unfinished" ceilings in cafes, stores, etc). Large prominent presence of literature (which is customer-friendly btw as they said you can touch and read them [gently!]) throughout the perimeter and center piece. I wasn't impressed with Archive. It's counter-order, and the venue does not encourage singles to sit at the bar so single people will take up large booths while camping out on their laptops. I got a breakfast hash, and it had no sauce, so it was essentially just a bowl of potatoes since I couldn't have the cheese. When we asked for waters and condiments, the server had to come back three times because she kept forgetting things. The final time I had to pick a long hair out of my ketchup. Cozy and yummy coffee house! We were in town to visit Willamette and needed a breakfast that was not from a diner-type restaurant with vegetarian/vegan options. The Bee's Knees is scrumptious! Not too sweet and very flavorful. Matcha latte was also not super sweet and yummy. Can you tell I don't love sweet drinks? Daughters enjoyed the lemon poppyseed muffin, tasty and not like lemon cake which is often how I find lemon muffins to be. Cauliflower tacos = delish! My wife got a London Fog, and I got the Vanilla Bourbon Latte, and after our first sip, my wife and I both agreed we needed to come back. Large portions and quality food. I love getting coffee and this has become a staple place for me. They have a smaller drink menu but the drinks are great! The staff there have been kind and respectful during service. The overall vibe of the restaurant seems to be a dark academia type theme. There are lots of plants and interesting things to look at. A bar and coffee shop in one!?!? This is the best ever. We tried three different lattes and the most wonderful is the Shanghai Fog which is an oolong tea latte. Where do I even start?! I love their coffee, I come in and fresh beans every month. The bar staff are always on the move and keeping up with the busy rush on the weekends evenings, I love sitting at the bar solo and enjoying some a cocktail with dinner. Their cappuccinos are wonderfully brewed, highly recommended you at least come in for coffee if you can't make it for dinner. The butternut squash risotto for dinner is a favorite of mine, it's hard not to eat it all. Strawberry smoke is a tasty tequila mix drink I highly recommend. I love a good local coffee place..... and i wandered in here while i was waiting on my son (who ran down to the game store). I was a bit annoyed one time because I ordered a breakfast croissant and I asked for a fried egg instead of scrambled in the croissant, and the person taking my order obliged. A meal in an atmosphere centered around literature? Yes please. We tried Archive on a Saturday just after before 11 am so right on the verge of breakfast/brunch/lunch. Which made it hard to decide which type of meal I wanted but I was quite happy that they served both breakfast and lunch for the window of time we were there. My friend that brought me here was only accustomed to going here for dinner and it sounds like it has a bit different procedure for dinners (i.e. table service) whereas we walked up to the bar, ordered, got a number and got to choose our table. There were a lot of food options but not so many as to be overwhelmed. I decided on a classic cheese burger while my friend ordered a breakfast bagel. And we got the pumpkin cheesecake to share because, why not? My burger was good, worth the price, not too greasy but not the absolute best I've ever had either. I received a lot of fries, they probably could have cut that serving in half haha. The cheesecake was yummy, just the right size for sharing and not too heavy. My friend's bagel looked delicious as well. The staff were friendly and helpful, everyone seemed in good moods. I enjoyed the ambiance here, not too dark, open with high ceilings and of course, the industrial bookstore vibe helped. Wow what a find in the heart of downtown Salem. I was staying at a hotel nearby and stumbled upon Archive Coffee and Bar when searching for some breakfast. You order at the bar and seat yourself. Staff is friendly and they have a great coffee menu with lots of options for everyone. I ordered a latte and the monte cristo. The latte was excellent and paired well with the Monte cristo. I sat near the bar and was amazed at the "library" of bottles on each shelf. They had a great bourbon selection which caught my eye. The latte was so good I ended up ordering a second to go. I really hate writing any review under 5 stars but this place isn't worth the price. We went with friends and enjoyed the ambiance but the drinks and customer service were really lacking. Our first round of old fashioneds and signature drinks were super watered down and the coffee cocktails (Spanish Coffee) were gross. One big customer service issue was that we placed an order for 4 drinks up front and then waited 20-35 min for them to be delivered and then when we asked when our draft beer, latte, and (x2) Spanish coffees were coming, they hadn't even submitted the request. We didn't get any apology Or any remedy for their mishap. Big bummer. Unfortunately, that small thing is a reason for us to go elsewhere for when we are downtown Salem. read more
