There is an episode of Regular Show in which Pops, an enormous headed, kind hearted, sweets obsessed fellow gets his hands on some super special double glazed apple fritters. He immediately develops an extreme sugar high, and the other characters believe the best way to cure him is to feed him more sugar until he crashes. Instead, they end up in an alternate plane of reality because they are moving at such a high speed due to the sweets. Basically, they are magic fritters, and if those exist anywhere in a non-cartoon world, they exist here, at this unassuming Chevron in Kamas, Utah. I always stop here for a three day pass when camping Mirror Lake Highway, or really most times I am in the area, so have probably been in ten or fifteen times. Not once have fritters been available (a sign states they bring them out as they are prepared, but cannot promise readiness prior to 9:30am). More often than not, I arrive later in the day, and there are usually some lonely frosted brownies, though I don't know why they tend to be the last remaining goodies as they are quite delicious. A few donuts, cookies and bagels languish as well, and while the slim pickings in a large, mostly empty case make your options look very sad, everything I have tried has been good to great. Last weekend, however, Fate smiled on me with a gift of the very last fritter of the day: a blueberry monstrosity (much) larger than my head. Absolutely coated in glaze to the point that one would expect it be unappetizing, the fritter was instead crisped to perfection, crunchy and browned and filled with blueberry bits and juicy swirls. Incredibly sweet, near overwhelmingly so, but it towed the line without going over, and after finishing it (with other's assistance! Don't judge me!) I found myself wishing for another. Beyond the baked goods, this is still a gas station/convenience store, and they do a great job in that department too. Snacks, junk food, beverages, and basic necessities are available. Any forgotten sundries required for outdoor adventures can be obtained here, employees are kind, and really my only complaint is the limited gas dispensers and near comically undersized, actually nonexistent, area for parking. Half their customers are in unnecessarily large trucks, and even with two or three vehicles in the area, you'll likely struggle to maneuver anywhere. Thankfully, there is additional space around back, but just getting there can be quite difficult! Still, do what you must to stop here for the fritters. I have heard tell of apple and raspberry versions in addition to blueberry. Many will mock you for driving to the country to pick up donuts from a gas station. When you arrive, those unfamiliar with these delights might look at you askance when they see your eyes tearing in excitement, or the spontaneous eruption of a happy dance. But anyone who has put a fritter to their lips, even just once, will lock eyes with you, and in mutual respect of dedication to this enchanted pastry, you'll each nod at the other in earnest seriousness as you stuff your faces with deep fried magic.

Wow.. never would I think that a gas station in Kamas would have one of the best doughnuts in the state. They were awarded "best in state" donuts for a reason! I'm not sure what the name of the donut I chose was but it sure was good. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area, they're so worth it! I heard they run out pretty quickly so be sure to go early if you want a good selection

The large fritter was even larger than my sons large head.

I like to watch a lot of reality television on The Learning Channel (a.k.a. TLC). Watching shows about 600 lb lifers, polygamists and hoarders makes me feel good about myself because my life choices seem better than theirs. However, when it was decided to drive 45 minutes to a gas station in rural Utah for donuts on a beautiful holiday morning, I started rethinking some of my life choices. After reading some other yelp reviews and food bloggers it seemed like the only choice was to drive up there. I will say this, the gigantic fritter was definitely in my top 3 and probably worth the drive. It was tender and light with a hint of raspberry and maybe even lemon. The other donuts were good, but more I was already in the neighborhood good, and not drive 1.5 hours round trip good. The drive was beautiful and seemed like good enough family time. Overall a pleasant morning. Now I will go watch more of the Desanti brothers on "600 lb Life" and will ride high with confidence once again.

So if you're ever wondering to yourself what you're missing in life?? It's this Chevron fritter donut. I kid you not this fritter donut is the size of a small child. Anyways I drove from salt lake to get a hold of these small sized child donuts and there was no regrets. They offer tons of fritter flavors such as apple, raspberry and blueberry. I'm biased though cause I looooved the raspberry (but I also really love raspberry) but all the flavors were really great too! The fritters come in small and large sizes. But don't make bad life choices and pay the 3.25 for the large size. There will be no regrets. Finally I did come on a Wednesday at around 7ish in the morning so the donuts were fully stocked and warm. I don't know what it's like on a late Friday evening but I'm sure the fritters are gone because we have eager beavers like me out there. But if you want a fun little roadtrip this summer... Add kamas Chevron donuts on your bucketlist!

    GIANT fritters!

The fritters are worth five stars. Grumpy staff removed one. Tiny but well stocked station- but let's be honest, everyone comes for the donuts! Worth it! Preorder if you want fritters!

HOLY FRITTER GRANDE!!!!! This place has the best fritters hands down!! If your anywhere near, I would highly suggest stopping in. Not only are the donuts amazing, but the lovely ladies at the counter were phenomenal.

Wow, that's a HUGE apple fritter!

It's a relief knowing I'm not the only one who happily drove two hours round-trip just to try these doughnuts. Tucked inside this ordinary looking gas station is a wonderful assortment of serve yourself doughnuts just waiting to be enjoyed. Looking around there are two types of people here, the locals who come in almost everyday to share a doughnut or two with their spouse or best friend of many years and people like me, the gawker who came to see what everyone else was talking about. Just smile and make your way to the doughnut case before they run out! Yes, the large apple fritter is HUGE and has to be tried just to say you tried it, but you can get the smaller fritter next time you're back. While the outer edges of the fritter were delicious, just the right balance of crunchy crust and soft interior with great apple favor, the inner portions were doughy, not quite cooked all the way through. Yeast doughnuts (maple and chocolate bars) were nice, light, fluffy, just about perfect. If you enjoy a nice road trip, a doughnut adventure to share with your friends, then you can't pass up a trip to the Kamas Chevron.

Wait staff was friendly but a little hard to hear since it's definitely got a diner vibe and it's pretty noisy. The Spanish omelette was a little smaller than I expected and a little dry. It needed Spanish sauce and cheese on the top, definitely. We got some green salsa to add. The breakfast sandwich was good. I expected the ciabatta roll to be a little more dense, as ciabattas normally are. It was more like a roll, but fresh! I think it comes from the Oakley bakery on the lower level. Definite diner vibe, as I said, but the floor was pretty dirty. Needed to be swept and mopped. When you're waiting for the hostess to check for a clean table, you're standing by the first seated table. A little awkward. All-in-all we'd probably go back. We like the drive up from Layton, and beggars can't be choosers on Sundays!

It's at the base of UT-150, better known as the Mirror Lake Highway, and it's just what you need when you're headed out for an adventure. I've talked about their connection to the highway before (summary: you can buy a $45 annual pass at their service counter) but I need to give them another shoutout. Over the last five years since my second review, I've been in countless times for pre-camp or pre-hike supplies. You know--the things you forget, or the junky things you get just because. I've stopped here for dinner a few times, but if you get there later than about 4pm, the selection of pre-made sandwiches, deli items, etc is pretty slim. And, to be honest, that's one area where I think they can improve. Not just the selection, but the care and quality that goes into those things. I mean, if I had my druthers, I'd stop at a local restaurant for food, but since I often come through town after dinner time on a Friday night after finishing work for the week, I want to get something quick! The magic is also with the gas station in that regard. I almost always fuel up here, even if I already have a nearly full tank. When I head up and out for 4WD adventures, the last thing I want is to have to turn back because of fuel worries. That little gas station just keeps on providing great drinks and a quick fuel. Add that to a grocery store that can help you grab things you may have forgotten (marshmallows!) and you've got a 1-2 punch that preps you for adventure.

They didn't have their hot dogs today because it was their soft opening, which is on the top of my list to try. So we took a 6-pack of mochinuts to try a variety of flavors. We had never had Mochinut before, even though it's a national chain. Mochinut are made from rice flour, making them chewier than a traditional wheat flour donut. The mochinut distinct feature is their string-of-pearls look. The look is fun and I can see the novelty to their brand, but the overall flavor of the dough isn't that special in my opinion. The mochinuts are also quite expensive at $3 per piece. Service: 5 Ambiance: 4 Food: 2 (only rating mochinuts) I will return to try their hot dogs, but I won't be back for their donuts.
