This location is a Chevron ExtraMile. One might wonder, "What the hell is an ExtraMile?" Well, Chevron goes the extra-mile at many of their locations by offering a myriad of carbonated drinks, snacks, coffee, and alcohol; it's akin to a mini-mart. With that being said, I usually just stop by for some peanuts and juice. The employees are always nice and i never have to wait for them to get behind the register because they're always there when I need them to be. It's Sunday night it's not even 9 o'clock and the guy working there wants me to give him my cell phone so that I can get gas. Typically in the glass box, they hand you the card reader so you can scan your card. This guy doesn't wanna do that. What he wants is for you to hand him your credit card or your cell phone I don't have my card on me I have my cell phone on me and he wants to then have me give him the code to my cell phone so that he can charge it from my phone wallet. What man in his right mind would be doing it that way. It's giving trying to steal my identity. It's giving a complete level of theft. I'm a woman it's nighttime on a Sunday. Nothing about that is safe for me. And this guy says if you don't like it then go somewhere else you can either get your gas the way I tell you to or you can go. The cashier was extremely rude. He seemed upset that I interrupted him playing on his phone to get some money put on the pump. He literally didn't speak to me at all just gave me a gesture of what do you want so I let him know how much I wanted and on what pump. After that, I went to the Pump and put in my phone number because that is what the screen was telling me. When I went back and asked the cashier why the pump wasn't working he proceeded to tell me that it's my fault because I put my phone number in Then he asked me why I didn't tell him I wanted to put in a phone number. I told him that he didn't ask me. He then proceeded to tell me that it is not his job to ask me. So unprofessional and extremely rude. I will never come back to this location ever again. Roommate had a flat tire after school and desperately needed to fill some air before making it to a tire shop. She walked into the station store asking to buy gasoline and requesting the operator/cashier to provide air. She had no cash on her to use at the air station. However the clerk completely turned her down and said they didn't provide free air here, even with gasoline purchase. Girl then started freaking out because there were many homeless people around this station. California law requires that station operators provide free air and water to customers who purchase gasoline. Please educate your employees on this matter. DO NOT PUMP AT THIS GAS STATION IF YOU PUMP 91 OCTANE Either they sold me bad gas or passed lower octane as 91. Pumped a full tank of gas and my car lost power and check engine light came on. Thought I had a leak in my system that caused it. After diagnose, figured it was caused by bad gasoline. Pumped 100 octane into the tank to dilute the bad gas to raise the octane, the car is back to normal. Never thought I'd be a victim of gas fraud, but it seems like not all gas stations are equal. This Chevron station is truly memorable. As far as downtown San Jose goes, the location is about as convenient as it gets and there really aren't many other gas stations in the area (there's a Rotten Robbie on 10th & Julian which isn't very close). With that being said, I find myself here often, which is unfortunate. While you may initially note the unkept look of the area surrounding the building or the seemingly endless amounts of shady characters hanging out around here at all hours of the day or night, it's the little things that make this place so special. The gas pumps that never work and when they do; pump at a rate of speed akin to a snail high on Benadryl. The "Out of Order" sign that's been hanging on the bathroom door for over two years. The attendants who never smile or even acknowledge you, ever. It's that magnificent attention to detail that makes this place so magical. Every time I end up coming here, I literally let out a big sigh and keep my head down. The most basic and simple transactions here are a chore always leave me disappointed. My pump wouldn't pump any gas once so I was forced to go inside and let the attendant know as I had pre-paid inside. His response? "Put the nozzle in correctly." Ohhhh ok, thanks. I hadn't tried that initially. Want to buy a bottle of water? Let the guy finish composing his text first. And even though it's obvious that the bathroom with the eternal "out of order" sign is not actually out of order but just used as a repellant measure to keep homeless people at bay, depending on who is working, they still swear it's actually out of order and won't let you use it. Nice modern gas station with a great location in downtown SJ. This is probably the most convenient gas station for the San Carlos/San Fernando/1st/2nd/3rd/4th street area. Typical Chevron prices - if you're looking for the best rates around, you won't get them here. Gas is pricey no matter what, though, so I'd rather pay a bit more and go to the place that's convenient instead of hunting for the best deal. This is clearly a newer Chevron, and everything has worked the times I was there. I agree about the homeless issue in this area. One time I pulled my car up to one of the pumps, only to have a homeless guy walk over and begin to use the pump I had pulled up at to put gas into his gas can. Really weird. I had to drive to another pump. I've also been panhandled here while pumping gas (the guy did complement me on my car, though). This is in a high traffic, active area of downtown, though, and I have never felt unsafe here while getting gas. I've never been inside the facility, so I can't comment on that aspect of the place. read more

On February 9th, 2020, at 12pm, I arrived at your location at 147 East Santa Clara Street in San Jose with the intention of filling the tank of my 1966 Chevelle. I pulled up to a gas pump and filled my tank with the maximum amount that the pump would allow, $100. After pumping the gas, I realized that I left my ignition on, which resulted in the draining of my battery. Upon realizing my mistake, I noticed the mechanic's shop attached to this location, which, coincidentally, was located about 10 feet in front of the pump I was at. I walked over and inquired with the only mechanic present if he was in possession of jumper cables; the mechanic replied "Yeah, absolutely. Do you got $20 on you?" Shocked by his response, I replied "Twenty dollars?" The mechanic retorted with "Well what do you got on you?" Coming from a mechanical background, I was looking to borrow jumper cables so that I could jumpstart my car myself. When I explained this to the mechanic, he responded that he could not let me borrow jumper cables because the mechanic shop and Chevron station were not affiliated with one another. Confused at this response, I said "I'm not asking about the affiliation, I'm asking to borrow jumper cables so that I could jumpstart my car." The mechanic then stated that the reason he could not help me was because he was on his way out. I was very frustrated at this point and responded "First you said $20, then you asked how much I had on me, then you said you couldn't help me because the gas station and mechanic shop aren't affiliated, and now you're saying you can't help me because you're on your way out?" It is disappointing that in a time of need, this employee tried to take advantage of me. What could have been a quick and simple resolution turned into a long and complicated issue. After this negative interaction, I ended up utilizing my AAA services, which had a 45-minute wait time. While waiting for AAA to arrive, I needed to use the restroom, so I asked the gas station attendant for the keys to the restroom. The attendant smugly informed me that the restrooms were out of order, which only added to my frustration. When AAA arrived, they jumpstarted my battery, which took less than three minutes. The AAA subcontractor informed me that he was not surprised by the location of my trouble, stating that he had been called out to that specific Chevron location multiple times and had been given reports from customers of the trouble the mechanic shop gave them. The AAA subcontractor also informed me that his previous customers complained to him about the gas station's nonfunctional restrooms that they were unable to use while they were waiting; by law, service stations in California that are located near any major highways are required to have clean and sanitary restrooms. An unintentional violation of five consecutive days is an infraction punishable by a fine of up to $50 per day. This particular location is located near State Route 87 and Interstate 280. Given that this is a Chevron service station and not some random mom-and-pops service station, I expected better customer service. The service I received was not representative of the standards that have been set through previous experiences at other Chevron locations. Employees like the ones mentioned above should not be representing such a reputable company. As the general manager of a collision center, I would recommend that Chevron conduct performance reviews on these employees and assess how the Chevron company is being represented. After a few moments he grunted and banged on the window near him. I walked over and asked if I could come in to look at snacks. He didn't even look at me and said, "Nobody come inside!" Ridiculous. Today 4 out of 8 pumps were missing or out of order. The self service vacuum station for the car wash was "out of order" too. The air line had holes in the line and couldn't hold pressure to fill our tire(s). It was pitiful. Finally got our gas while all the cars were jammed up bouncing from one pump to another (once they noticed the out or order signs or missing pump handle(s)). What a cluster f*#! This gas station sucks a**!!! I only go to this gas station bc it's the only one close to my work. None of the screens at the pumps ever work. I always have to go inside to the store to do my transaction. Being that the screens don't work at the pumps it's soooo inconvenient to have to go in the store. The clerks must hate their life bc they're rude as heck!!! When I have to go inside or to the window, the clerk is never there and I have to call for them or knock on the window really hard. Nothing super special about this gas station. I needed gas and this was the nearest gas station there was. I did go in the convenient store and the attendant was actually friendly; the friendly type that you can tell they are actually happy with their life and not those that say "hi, how are you" just to say it. The price wasn't so bad either, for a Chevron station... I was able to fill up my tank for under $60 and it was relatively clean with no broken pumps. read more

Credit card fraud and felt unsafe at a gas station: I tried to get gas at this Chevron station on E. Santa Clara in San Jose last Monday and I got an error message when I swiped my credit card. The attendant said to try another pump and I got the same error message. Other people had the same issue. So instead of helping us out, the attendant went to do inventory of an ice cream delivery. After waiting for a while, I asked him what he was going to do about the problem and he said he doesn't know what the problem is and continued with the ice cream. So I just left and went to another gas station. I thought it was really odd, so I checked my credit card transactions online the next day and sure enough there's a suspicious charge for $499.00. I reported it to my bank. I'm never going to that gas station again because in addition to this, a strange woman asked me for money, I was getting weird looks from people and a guy forced me to say hello to his friend who was waving at me from his car. Also, a friend of mine later told me that he had the same credit card fraud issue at this location. read more

Today I stopped by at this station to buy a car charger. This old stinky Indian guy named KHAN refused to sell me the charger saying once bought no refund. All I asked was what if I go to my car and the device is defected ( and he starts yelling like a pig saying I have a right to refuse, I am the manager No service You go..you go).
