After years of hearing that I should check out "Lexington's oldest bar", I finally made it out. CCI is a dive bar that has been around since the beginning of time and it shows, but in a good character way. The place was pretty small and had a large crowd for live music. The bartender was still quick to serve and friendly. Everyone seemed to know someone else or maybe it was just the friendly nature of the place but a regular came over and asked if it was our first visit (were we that obvious? ). He was excited to tell us all about CCI and welcome us. They also use a "bottoms up" tap system for draft beer which fills the glass from the bottom. It's clean, very friendly, strong cheap drinks, and of course tons of cool crap on the walls! The other patrons were very nice too! Had a good beer and drink selection, full bar. So excited to have found this great dive bar in Lexington. My husband read on Facebook about the Pappy Thanksgiving which was the owners way of sharing the wealth and letting his customers try Pappy Van Winkle for cost. The only catch is you had to be the first 75 people to get a chance to taste the Pappy. The wristbands were going to be passed out at 2:30 and the drinks would be poured at 4:30pm. We decided to go early and make sure we got a wristband. We got there at 11:00 am thinking there would be a huge line, we ended up being 5 and 6 in line so we were guarantee a taste. As we camped out, we met some great people and even one of the patron's was there since 10:45 pm and thought it would be a huge line for such an opportunity. We also took advantage of the 5.00 deal at Bourbon and Toulouse to eat while waiting for Chevy Chase to open and start passing out wristbands. The owner came out from Chevy Chase to chat and really appreciated the turn out. When we got to enter the bar, it is small and very homey. It is a great place to meet and definitely a local town hangout. Live music was playing and entertained us the whole time we were there. It has a wide selection of alcohol and the service is terrific. We are definitely coming back, and yes paying up to 14.75 for an ounce of Pappy 20 and 15 year was well worth it. read more

Wow this place is a dive... and I mean that in a good way! There is only one other bar that I have given five stars and that is also a dive bar in Louisville Kentucky, Magnolia bar (or Mag Bar). If you haven't been there and you live in Louisville, or are visiting Louisville, check it out. But I stray from the current review. This is the oldest bar in Lexington and it does show somewhat, but that only adds to it's character and charm. This place is in my neighborhood so its dangerous for me It is fairly small inside, but they do have a place for a band. It gets pretty crowded when that happens. There is also a room with a pool table and a couple other games, and an an outdoor patio for use in warmer weather and that is pretty big. I remember going to this bar when I turned 21-its like a right of passage! My dad and I sat on the barstools and as we looked around the bar, there were people from my age to his age and older in the place. They are, of course, a group of regulars who shuffle in each day, and they make you feel right at home. The bartenders are very friendly and quick. The beer is cold, the bourbon is plentiful & you have to see them pour draft beer from the bottom up! Go check it out and let me know what you think... I think you'll really like it read more

I think this is my favorite dive bar in Lexington hands down. I stop in here quite a bit. I love that the guys from Bourbon N Talouse bought it. It is a fun local spot to just chill and have a drink or 10. They even let you bring the food from BNT over and eat while you drink. Gotta love that as well. The bartenders are all friendly and nice. The beer is great. Please note...Don't finger the bottom of their cups...That is where their beer fills from. If you finger it....Like I did, you get a crotch full of beer and an empty glass. :D Go here and hang out. I am sure you will dig it. It's a Lexington institution. It's one of the last of the great and genuine American dive bars here in this city. I would put it next to Archie's in Chicago in that category. The cocktails are cheap. The ambiance is dark, dirty, vintage, and brooding, in the best way. This is an old school dive bar, one of the oldest operating bars in the county, from what I understand. In the afternoon and early evening this is a genuine dive bar, with the Moe's-esque clientele to match. Sometime around 7:30 it becomes a little hipster (though you can still find a one armed pool hustler waiting for a game... I cannot say enough about this place. I do not give out 5 stars very often. We went there for the first annual Pappy Thanksgiving. The bar received there allotment of Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon and decided to share it at cost rather than try and rip people off. They issued wristbands and guaranteed the first 75 in line would get a taste. We were 5 & 6 in line so we had our choice of different ages. We tried the 20 and 15yr bourbons at a great price. I think the 20yr was $14.50 and 15yr was $8-$10. We waited in line for 3 hours just to get the wristbands and then another 2.5 hours until the we were able to taste the bourbon. In the meantime, the owner kept checking on the line asking if anyone needed to charge their phones and just seeing how everyone was doing. He also made it so that anyone in line could get a meal from Bourbon-n-Toulouse for $5. They had a good variety. The customer service and appreciation was top-notch. I will be back, and not just for the 2nd annual Pappy Thanksgiving. read more

Chevy Chase Inn, or CCI as it is affectionately known by regulars, is the place I wish I had known about in college. You can always expect an eclectic crowd in this 75 year old watering hole. The bartenders are exceptionally friendly, especially Mike, who works weeknights. CCI is great for its cheap beverages and unassuming atmosphere. On weekends, they have live music that is, at least every time I've been, pretty awesome. If you're looking for a hip place to go on the weekend where people will look at you and judge you by what you're wearing, this is definitely not the place, but who wants that? read more
